The next stage of the Big Middle East War has begun. On Monday, IDF troops crossed the border and entered southern Lebanon. Over and over again, Hezbollah has stated that there will be “all-out war” if this happens. So now we will watch and see what happens in the coming hours. Will Hezbollah decide to launch thousands upon thousands of missiles toward Israeli cities? Will other parties join the fight? This stage of the war is going to look completely different from Israel’s war against Hamas. Hezbollah is a formidable enemy, and it has very powerful friends. Earlier on Monday, the Washington Post was reporting that Israel was “planning a limited ground operation in Lebanon”… Israel is planning a limited ground operation in Lebanon that could start imminently, Israel has told Washington, a U.S. official said — an account corroborated by an Israeli familiar with military deliberations. Israel’s planned campaign would be smaller than its last war against Hezbollah in 2006 and would focus on clearing out militant infrastructure along the border to remove the threat to Israeli border communities, the U.S. official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss private talks between the two governments. Of course using the word “limited” is not going to make Hezbollah feel better about things one bit. For Hezbollah, this is the big showdown that they have been preparing for all these years. As Monday progressed, it became clear that something big was about to happen. We were being told that “hundreds of Israeli tanks” were lined up on the border, and that usually only means one thing… Hundreds of Israeli tanks have lined up along the Lebanon border as fears grow over an anticipated ground invasion that could plunge the Middle East into an all-out war. It came as Israel also launched a fresh wave of airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen on Sunday amid fears that the raging conflict could spill out across the region. The Israel-Hamas war has escalated in recent days after the IDF said it had wiped out Hezbollah’s top brass in the airstrike on southern Beirut that killed the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. The Biden administration was hoping for peace until the very last moment, but everyone could see that their efforts weren’t going to make a difference. Just a little while ago, the Jerusalem Post reported that “IDF soldiers entered southern Lebanon”… IDF soldiers entered southern Lebanon as part of a ground assault on Monday night as the conflict with Hezbollah continues to escalate, AFP reported. This is the first IDF ground operation in Lebanon since the Second Lebanon War in 2006. This follows earlier reports that Israel notified the US that it intends to launch a limited ground operation into Lebanon that could begin within hours, a US official confirmed to CBS on Monday. Other news sources have reported that an Israeli incursion could come within the coming days. There is no going back now. I know that I have been saying that a lot lately, but it is true. When asked about what was happening, one retired Israeli general told CNN that this “is the moment”… “This is the moment,” Retired Israeli Brig. Gen. Aviv Amiri has told CNN. The southern areas were reportedly subject to carpet bombing raids within the hours prior to the border breach. “We cannot create terms for Israelis to return to their homes without pushing Hezbollah out of South Lebanon, certainly at minimum eight miles, which would be anti-tank missile range,” Amiri has said. Even if the Israelis are able to push Hezbollah all the way back to the Litani River, do they actually believe that this will be the end of it? No way. As long as there is a single IDF soldier on Lebanese soil, Hezbollah will be fighting with everything that they have got. On Monday, Hezbollah’s acting leader insisted that his organization is ready for war… Despite the body blows dealt by Israel, Hezbollah’s deputy leader claimed Monday that the group’s “military capabilities are solid,” that it “will continue along the same path” it has been on for months – and that it is ready for a war with Israel. When Israel went into Gaza, Hamas really didn’t have anyone else that it could depend upon. But Hezbollah is a completely different story. For months, fighters from all over the Middle East have been pouring into southern Lebanon. And the rest of Hezbollah’s alliance is not just going to sit there and watch Hezbollah get defeated. In fact, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is already calling for other Islamic nations to join the fight… In a pre-recorded interview that aired Sunday on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” President Masoud Pezeshkian placed the blame for the ongoing violence in that region squarely on Israel, as opposed to his own country or Hezbollah, the belligerent group it has sponsored for decades. “Hezbollah by herself cannot stand against a country that is armed to the teeth,” he told Zakaria, “and has access to weapons systems that are far superior to anything else.” Speaking to Zakaria through an interpreter, Pezeshkian added: “Islamic countries must convene meeting in order to formulate a reaction to what is occurring. Now, if we’re speaking of Hezbollah alone, what can Hezbollah do alone? The regional countries, Islamic countries must sit together.” I have a feeling that this thing is going to escalate quite rapidly. And as I discussed the other day, this is all happening as “the Comet of the Century” is flying through the sky above our heads and a “ring of fire” solar eclipse is about to appear on Rosh Hashanah. Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine just continues to escalate as well. In fact, the Russians just established a new monthly record for drone barrages of Ukrainian cities… Russia fired missiles and drones at 11 regions of Ukraine, the Ukrainian air force said Monday, in a 33rd consecutive night of aerial attacks behind the front line and set a new monthly record of drone barrages. In Kyiv, multiple explosions and machine gun fire could be heard throughout the night as the Ukrainian capital’s air defenses fought off a drone attack for five hours. We really are living at a time of “wars and rumors of wars”, and it appears that global events are about to spiral completely out of control. I realize that Israel is hoping for a “limited” war in Lebanon, but the truth is that there isn’t going to be anything “limited” about what is coming. Both sides are willing to do whatever it takes to win, and the horrifying devastation that we will soon see in the Middle East will shock the entire planet. That harlot system of Revelation 17 will ride astride the beast described by Daniel the prophet and John, who was given Revelation to write by the Holy Spirit. Most of us who closely observe these times from the pre-Trib view of Bible prophecy understand that the climate-change mantra is a Mother Earth worship ruse used by Satan to inject fear into the world’s populations. –Thus to bring into existence a new world order that will eventuate in the Antichrist regime of absolute evil. Jesus Himself forecast the weather in His Olivet Discourse. He said the winds and waves will be roaring. This can include, I’m convinced, both the literal seas and waves as well as the seas of people. And certainly both the literal and the figurative are in tumultuous upheaval as these end times unfold. With regard to the literal, any review of weather news on any given day is full of great storms that are becoming more violent and wreaking havoc on a global basis. The figurative seas and waves—the wars and rumors of war, the ethnic conflicts—are just as violent and growing more so by the hour. This ramping up of violence includes the ethnic strife within supposedly the most civilized nations such as our own. There are warnings from many quarters that such turmoil is destined to flair in dramatic fashion no matter which party’s presidential candidate is victorious in November. All of the above is part of the Bible prophecy picture coming into focus as we watch for and anticipate the wrap-up of this Age of Grace (Church Age). So the winds Jesus gave us a heads-up about, as far as what to look for as His Second Advent nears, are beginning to blow in hurricane fashion on the end-times horizon. And it is yet another sort of prophetic allusion to tumultuous winds that will blow in the last days that I hope to look at for now. This is a climate-change matter we can point to that is truly upon us as the time of Tribulation nears. The Apostle Paul prophesied this particular type of climate change for the end of the age: spiritual climate change. It involves a prophecy I believe is taking place at this moment. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2 Timothy 4:3) Paul further related this end-of-the-age doctrinal tumult to a dangerous windstorm: So that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (Ephesians 4:14) It’s easy to see that we’re now in such an anti-biblical storm of anti-God assaults by strange winds that are blowing against the truth. The following gives credence to the tempest Paul warned of: Brad Ruggles had already begun wrestling with his evangelical faith when he was called to launch a small church in a north Indianapolis suburb. As he pastored over his 200-member congregation, he found himself struggling with members’ resistance to issues of LGBTQ inclusion or questions raised by the murder of George Floyd. Eventually, in 2021, he stepped down and away from his faith – but ultimately craved the brotherhood he’d enjoyed as part of a congregation. Then he found C3, an inclusive Sunday collective in west Michigan that had undergone its own transformation and now describes itself not as a church but a home for the spiritually homeless, dedicated to pondering existential questions and living out shared values… “The post-religious organizational field is highly diverse and fluid,” said Christian Smith, a professor of sociology at the University of Notre Dame who is writing a book about younger generations’ diminishing devotion to traditional religion. The patchwork existence of such churches means these communities provide their own oversight; their adherence to no doctrine leaves teachings open to constant shift. For now, that’s how they like it. (“As Millions Leave Organized Religion, Spiritual and Secular Communities Offer Refuge,” Mark Ramirez, USA Today) All of Christendom is under this heavy spiritual weather. Strange winds are blowing, particularly within the organization many prophecy watchers believe will be at the dark center of the Revelation chapter 17 whore of Babylon false religious system headed by the False Prophet of Revelation 13. That prophetic wind might be said to be coming from the voice of the man currently heading up that organization. The following is interesting in that regard: Pope Francis told young people in Singapore that being “Sikh, Muslim, Hindu, Christian” are just “different paths,” as “every religion is a way” to God… Continuing, the Pope declared that each religion is a means to attain God, stating: “Every religion is a way to arrive at God. There are different languages to arrive at God, but God is God for all. And how is God God for all? We are all sons and daughters of God. But my god is more important than your god, is that true? “There is only one God and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Sikh, Muslim, Hindu, Christian, they are different paths.” The Pope’s words were warmly welcomed by those present in the hall, which included leaders and representatives of Singapore’s many religious bodies and the large papal retinue. (“Pope Francis: ‘Every religion is a way to arrive at God’,” Michael Haynes, Snr Vatican correspondent – LifeSite) To my way of discerning these times and considering the strange winds of doctrine blowing across the spiritual landscape at this late prophetic hour, what might happen next is always at the tip of my mind. Everything points to the beast state–Satan’s Antichrist system—rapidly advancing toward Daniel’s seventieth week–the Tribulation era. That goal of the Ephesians 6:12 cabal cannot take place until the church–all born again believers—is removed from the planet and taken into the clouds of Glory. This is why we urge believers to be Rapture Ready. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you must be watching for Him, as described in Mark 13:3, 7; Luke 21:28; and Titus 2:13. Be aware of and beware of strange winds of doctrine–like that which denies the scriptural truth that Jesus will come for His Church before the Tribulation begins (Revelation 3:10). At “Summit of the Future,” UN Doubles Down on Indoctrinating Children - Alex Newman - https://www.freedomproject.com/2024/09/25/tnr20240925/?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email Government leaders representing the UN’s 193 member states adopted a massive “Pact for the Future” that escalates and reinvigorates longtime efforts to indoctrinate children worldwide. And of course, the entire scheme was justified under the guise of helping “future generations.” Education was central to it all. In fact, the final UN agreement inked on Sunday mentions education and schooling dozens of times, making it one of the preeminent focuses of the global pact. That does not even include the countless references to earlier agreements dealing with education. The UN’s vision on education has been relatively clear since the founding of the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) by humanists, socialists, and eugenicists. In short, all children everywhere must learn what the UN believes they need to learn. That theme was everywhere at the UN Summit of the Future. “We stress the importance of investing in, and ensuring equitable access to, essential services for all children and young people, especially … education,” the agreement explains. It also commits governments and global organizations to “investing” more taxpayer money in “accessible, safe, inclusive and equitable quality education for all.” “To fulfil their full potential and secure decent, productive work and quality employment, young people must have access to safe, inclusive, equitable and quality education,” the Pact for the Future continues, adding that all schools everywhere must be connected to the Internet (no doubt so data can be gathered on the children). The language may sound harmless enough on the surface. But a deeper investigation into what the UN and its allies mean with those phrases reveals a nefarious agenda to standardize education globally — and to indoctrinate children with extreme political, ideological, and even spiritual views. In recent decades, global agreements have made those calls explicit, with the Jomtien Declaration and the Dakar Framework calling for global efforts to standardize education and reshape children’s values. Agenda 21, adopted in 1992, explicitly called for infusing “spirituality” into education. Meanwhile, the UN created a “World Core Curriculum” based on the teachings of New Age occultist Alice Bailey, founder of the Lucifer Publishing Company. The program, which UN leaders have repeatedly touted as something that should be taught to all children in all countries, remains a powerful influence even as Bill Gate partnered with UNESCO to globalize U.S. education with “Common Core.” One of the major points of the Pact for the Future adopted this week at the 79th UN General Assembly was to reinvigorate efforts to impose the UN 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals on humanity. “We reaffirm that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is our overarching road map,” the Pact stated. Adopted in 2015, the so-called SDGs represent what UN bosses called the “master plan for humanity.” Among the goals by 2030 is everything from abortion and contraception access to national and international wealth redistribution and government control of production and consumption, as the text states clearly. But one of the most important items that transcends the entire “master plan for humanity,” Goal 4, deals with exclusively with education. “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all,” reads the Goal summary, before getting into specifics. “By 2030,” the scheme reads, governments and the UN must “ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.” That includes “education” on “human rights,” “gender equality,” “global citizenship,” and “cultural diversity.” In other words, children must be so brainwashed that they will not just submit to the UN’s agenda but will actively “promote” it. And while the ideological items may sound nice at first glance, a closer look reveals a sinister agenda. For instance, “gender equality” is cover for radical feminism, while “global citizenship” programming is just globalist indoctrination. One of the few displays at UN Headquarters throughout the Summit of the Future was UNESCO’s booth on Sustainable Development Goal 4. It featured slogans and images touting the UN’s increasingly brazen efforts to centralize control over education around the world, as called for in numerous UN agreements. An executive for a major textbook publisher boasted in an interview with this writer that children across the United States are already learning about the SDGs and that Goal 4 is already being fulfilled in America. “When it comes to getting education across, this is something we already do,” said the executive after her panel discussion. “Our company already goes into [U.S.] schools and educates children on the SDGs.” In talks at the SDG “media zone,” an endless parade of speakers — UN officials, corporate executives, PR hacks — moaned about how “misinformation” and “disinformation” were eroding trust in the UN and its narratives. One of the major “solutions”: Brainwash children with “media literacy” programs. Separately, there were a half-dozen refences to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the Pact for the Future. According to that instrument, education “shall be compulsory.” Perhaps even more troubling, what the UN refers to as education “shall further the activities of the United Nations,” reads Article 26. That provision alone should concern everyone. In essence, it means that any child whose education is not furthering the UN agenda is having his or her (or “their”) “human rights” violated. That would certainly include most homeschoolers and millions of children in private schools around the world. Unlike the God-given rights recognized by America’s founding documents, the UN declaration enshrines revokable privileges that can be limited or abolished on virtually any pretext. And as the document states in Article 29, those pseudo-“human rights” can never be used “contrary to the purposes and principles” of the UN. The UN and its member governments are blatantly working to usurp remaining control over education from parents and families. And as they make clear in their documents, one of the big reasons for this is so children can be indoctrinated to believe in UN-backed ideologies that are incompatible with Americanism and Christianity. The Pact for the Future is an effort to “turbocharge” that process on education and across every other sphere of human life. But the push for globalism is only possible if enough young people can be brainwashed to support it. As such, it is one of the most important fronts in the battle to preserve liberty, family, sovereignty, and Christian civilization. The Holy Spirit brings this particular scripture verse into mind in large bold print whenever I find my thoughts drifting into fantasy land and visualizing punishments that might match the crimes of extremely evil people. Referring here to demonically possessed evil persons in positions of tremendous power, who are doing horribly evil things to cause great harm to multitudes of decent folks who have done nothing to deserve such malevolent treatment. Evil people doing evil things such as mandating vaccinations with now proven to be unsafe, ineffective, highly poisonous mRNA jabs and clot shots complete with crippling side effects including death, and then threatening and, in many cases, imposing the loss of livelihood for non-compliance. To this day, they are still using insidious deceit to convince naïve people that the vaccines are safe and effective. There are recent television commercials with catchy songs and happy dancing people joyfully informing us that Pfizer is our best friend and has our backs. Or, child sex trafficking, where the traffickers are getting exceedingly rich, and the pedophiles get to continue to indulge in the sickest of behaviors at the expense of untold thousands of innocent children. The evil mentioned above, in fact, goes hand in hand with the imposing of open borders here in America and in many European nations as well. Our streets and formerly safe neighborhoods are being filled with criminals and illegal immigrants of every sort, including rapists, fentanyl distributors, home invaders, sex traffickers, thieves, ruthless gangs, and heartless murderers. Not to mention terrorists, mostly of the Islamic jihadist sort, and thousands of military-aged single men from China. This is all by design and being carried out at the behest of the evil globalists and their bought-and-paid-for traitors and betrayers of nations, aka politicians. Politicians of both the Donkey kind and the Rino kind. Yes, the super-wealthy evil globalist elitists and their godless cohorts at the WEF and the UN, with their plans to bring all of humanity to their knees both economically and medically, and to depopulate the world with bio-weapons called vaccines, and induced warfare of all kinds, including civil wars. They are aiming for a more manageable one-half billion people, which they believe will more easily allow them to exert full control over everyone who is left to serve them, according to their Agenda 2030. Or any number of other evil things that godless, evil, power-hungry people dream up, such as Transhumanism. Transhumanism and the mergence with artificial intelligence, whereas God created human DNA becomes defiled and altered in ways that cause humans to no longer resemble the beings that God created in His own image. Instead, with Transhumanism, humans would become distorted “Frankenstein”-type monsters born out of the sick imagination of Lucifer and his Mengele-idolizing minions. Possibly the topper of them all, as to the evil things imagined by the deceived followers of Lucifer, is attempting to actually replace the wonderful, beautiful Creator of Life itself with a most hideous cadre of imposters. Themselves, soon to be led by the antichrist and his false prophet. These are just some of the evil things that are being done by evil people. Evil things inspire the dreaming up of ways to make them stop and to make them pay for their evil crimes against God Himself and against humanity, which God has created in His own image. However, vengeance is not mine, and it is not yours, and it belongs to nobody except God Almighty. Sometimes, because of my extreme dislike for wickedness and how much I seem to despise God-hating evil people for the merciless cruelty that they inflict on others, I am sometimes guilty of daydreaming about punishments that fit these vile crimes. When this happens, my Lord and Savior always leads my wayward yet highly creative mind back to a hill called Calvary and a cross with my Lord and Savior nailed to it (Matthew 27). As my Lord and Savior hung on that cross, He accomplished things that changed the world forever. Mainly, He took upon Himself the punishment for all of the sins of fallen mankind past, present, and future. That is all sins, including yours and mine. He did this when He first came to save the world. He came not to condemn the world but to save it (John 3:17). He also set the bar for extending mercy. He set it very high that day upon the cross. He set the bar as high as it could go. Just as Jesus said in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” As He was doing this very thing, He also demonstrated that no greater mercy has anyone than to forgive the ones who just tortured you and then murdered you. As for the men who beat Him nearly to death and nailed Him to that cross, and to all of those jealous religious hypocrites who instigated His crucifixion with phony charges of blasphemy, His only thoughts were to forgive them. His thoughts were not about ways to punish them but rather thoughts of how to bless them with mercy. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). 2 Timothy 3:16 reveals that: “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 reveals that there is “a time to every purpose under heaven.” A time for God Almighty to bestow the greatest of mercies and also a time when He delivers the vengeance that evildoers so richly deserve and even seem to beg for. The vengeance that belongs to Him (Romans 12 17:19). In Psalm 139, verses 19 through 24, David says these words: “Surely, thou will slay the wicked oh God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. Do not I hate them, oh Lord, that hate thee? And am I not grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them as my enemies. Search me, oh God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts: And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” David said those words many centuries before Jesus set the bar of mercy so very high as He hung upon the cross. And yet still, even with all of that being said, Jesus is able to transform our hearts into hearts capable of experiencing His remarkable mercy and truly understanding the will of God, as He desires for none to perish while at the very same time despising evil. Although it is not God’s will that any should perish, God has revealed through the prophets and to John directly in the Book of Revelation His plans to eliminate evil and Christ-rejecting evil people from the face of the earth entirely and forever, but all in His own time and in His own way. In past history, God sometimes allowed an army or individuals to exact judgment upon something or someone evil. David was a mighty warrior who slew the giant blaspheming Philistine bully known as Goliath with one smooth stone. David also wrote, along with prophetic psalms, some of the most tender psalms and songs and love letters to God and to his fellow earthly sojourners that the world has ever known. Jesus, who set the bar of mercy and forgiveness so very high in His last moments upon that cross, was and still is also not only a mighty warrior but, to be sure, the mightiest of all warriors. The mightiest by far, with no one else even a close second. Yet Jesus had and still has the most love and the most mercy of anyone who ever walked upon the face of the earth. In His first advent, Jesus, as the Lamb of God, took upon Himself all of our sins and taught us how to love one another as well. When He returns, it will be as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. The mightiest of all warriors with supernatural powers that cannot even be challenged. Jesus gave the world a glimpse of the warrior part of His nature in His first advent when He overturned the tables of the money changers in the temple in Jerusalem. Like a whirlwind, He drove everyone out who had been buying and selling there and flipped over all of the tables and the merchandise that was on those tables. He said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of thieves” (Matthew 21:12-13). The anger Jesus showed that day in the temple in Jerusalem was a righteous anger and revealed just a little bit of what God’s wrath is like when He decides to take vengeance. When God takes vengeance, His anger is always righteous, and no one can stop it or even fight against it. Jesus, being God as the second person of the triune Godhead, and upon returning as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, shall be wielding the sword of God’s righteous wrath with the full power of God Almighty upon the unrepentant evil doers on planet Earth during and at the end of the seven-year Tribulation, “the time of Jacob’s Trouble,” “the 70th week of Daniel.” The vengeance that belongs to God Almighty is outlined in great detail and forecast in advance in the Book of Revelation in regard to what is about to befall Lucifer and his entire network of evil here on planet Earth, as the Tribulation races toward us. What Jesus did in righteous anger to the money-changers in the temple two thousand years ago in Jerusalem will soon be manifested on a world scale when all who have embraced evil will be crushed by the power of His Word. His Word, which is likened to a two-edged sword that comes forth out of His mouth (Revelation 19:15). Even some of the very same evil ones, perhaps the very same super wealthy abusers and misusers of free will, the very individuals all of us watchers are observing right now on Earth who are bringing so much misery and torment to so many here in these last days. The last of days in the age of grace and God’s unfathomable mercy. No names are being mentioned in this article because it would take up too much space, as there are at least several hundred bad actors playing major roles in the nightmare horror show that they, under the direction of their vile master, are inflicting on the inhabitants of planet Earth. Anyone paying attention knows who most of them are. These sinister, delusional, power-hungry lovers of evil and purveyors of wickedness are not going to get away with it much longer. The signs are everywhere (Luke 21:28-33). I have to honestly admit that although my first prayer really is for a miracle that all should repent and that none should perish, at the same time, I am longing for the day when Almighty God cleanses the world and eventually all of creation of those who have rejected salvation in favor of embracing the cruelty of wickedness. I just need to trust Him to justly decide when and which punishments fit the various crimes. To pray for both of these seemingly opposite concepts in the same breath is a mystery that is made understandable by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. There is a time to every purpose under heaven, and He who created and sustains the universe, in His great wisdom, great mercy, and with perfect justice, will have the final say. The slightest of disagreement quickly turns to acrimony and bitterness. We see families torn apart over politics and opinions on government. A ruthless spiritual cloud covers the earth and manifests in wars and rumors of wars. Innocents are killed in the womb or trafficked for pleasure and profit. Evil attacks at will and when the victims fight back, many side with the evil and say “you’ve gone too far.” The courts are unjust, using laws as weapons against any who disagree with certain political philosophies. Mankind looks to governments for protection and salvation. These are days like those seen in the vision called the Burden of Habakkuk. Habakkuk 1-4 says, “This is the burden that Habakkuk the prophet received in a vision: How long, O LORD, must I call for help but You do not hear, or cry out to You, “Violence!” but You do not save? Why do You make me see iniquity? Why do You tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me. Strife is ongoing, and conflict abounds. Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.” The LORD replied in verse 5, in part: “Look at the nations and observe—be utterly astounded! For I am doing a work in your days that you would never believe even if someone told you.” The Lord answers that He is raising up the Chaldeans, a dreaded, ruthless, people whose god is their own strength. Habakkuk realizes they are appointed for judgment and correction. The prophet Habakkuk was given this vision by the LORD to prepare his people for the impending Babylonian invasion when in 605 BC Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem, taking many, including Daniel, into exile. It was indeed a dreaded time. It is a pattern that we see in the Bible, where the LORD allows evil to advance for both judgment and correction. It’s similar to the adage that like dissolves like. Evil devours itself. Good is honed in the fire, purified by the chastening. As Christ explains in Matthew 5:45, “for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust,” reminding us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute you “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” You see, government in any form is not God. We can see what a mess governments have made of things. Corruption, injustice, evil, even in the name of humanitarianism and equality, all come to a vicious space. They are the results of the fallen human condition. Only God through his true son provides salvation. This turmoil that we are seeing today is the lead up to end of times. Those of us who know and are led by the Holy Spirit share the Burden of Habakkuk, we see what is happening and are troubled by it from an earthly perspective. But like Habakkuk, we must use these times to stimulate our faith and inspire the remnant that the LORD, not man or government, will restore peace and deliverance in due time. Be encouraged. Be the light unto others. Keep the faith. Stand fast. The best is yet to come. God says to us, “I have given you way more forgiveness than you have any right to expect. Do the same to one another.” Why do we try to complicate it? Why do we add conditions (“if you do this, then I will forgive you”)? God didn’t appoint us gatekeepers of forgiveness. He doesn’t let us decide who’s worthy of it. And He certainly doesn’t authorize us to weaponize forgiveness, to withhold it out of spite or revenge. Of course, that doesn’t stop us from trying. Once, I tried to withhold forgiveness from my abusive stepfather. Years after he and my mother divorced, I was preaching in Honolulu, near where he lived. Someone told me he was very sick and asked if I’d like to talk to him. I said, “No, thank you.” The memory of his physical abuse of my mother was still too fresh. The Holy Spirit had other ideas. “Talk to him,” He said. So I did. I don’t know what impact our conversation had on my stepfather, but I’m glad I listened to the Holy Spirit. He helped me see that conditional forgiveness isn’t God’s forgiveness. Peter learned the same lesson. In Matthew 18:21, he asks, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” (NLT). He probably thought he was being extra-generous. After all, Jewish tradition required a person to forgive a wrongdoer no more than three times for an offense. Jesus’ reply, “No, not seven times . . . but seventy times seven!” (Matthew 18:22 NLT), showed Peter just how far off the mark he was. Peter wanted to maintain some authority over his forgiving. He was willing to do it Jesus’ way up to seven times. But after that, he wanted to dispense forgiveness and justice as he saw fit. We do the same thing when we say, “I can forgive anything but lying” or “You can’t expect me to forgive someone who ruined my life.” We convince ourselves that we’re being generous with our forgiveness if we withhold just a little from the worst people. Jesus’ reply makes it clear that those options aren’t on the table. Jesus says, in essence, “You should forgive every chance you get.” Peter might as well have asked, “How many times should God forgive us?” Because in Ephesians 4:32, God connects our forgiveness of others with His forgiveness of us. He wants us to remember how His forgiveness changed our lives. How it lifted an enormous weight from our shoulders. How it rescued us from the emotional effects of guilt and shame. How it gave us hope for the future. How it made a loving relationship possible with the One we hurt. God wants other people to experience those things through our forgiveness. In His amazing generosity, He gives us a chance to be instruments of change in other people’s lives. Forgiveness isn’t a challenge or a test of our patience and understanding. It’s an opportunity to show others on a small scale what God offers on an eternal scale.
