(Galilee, Israel) — What can I say? Some weeks are just difficult. This last week has been no exception. My country is hurting. We’re in a very precarious circumstance given what’s happening internally, in Gaza, and in the north with Hezbollah. It’s been confirmed that our good friend, Yitzhak Cohen, as well as his fiancée, Geneva Lopez, were both murdered in the Philippines for unknown reasons. It’s during dark times like this that I’m forced to remind myself and find refuge in the fact that Jesus will one day have the final say: John 16:33 KJV – “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” The reality is that we were never promised that we’d always understand every circumstance. We were never assured that there would not be seasons of chaos and doubt. As the late J. Vernon McGee once said, “You can’t live on yesterday’s spirituality.” You and I need to seek God’s face every day when we rise and every night when we lie down. It’s a beautiful thing to know He’s always ready to be our safe place: Nahum 1:7 KJV – “The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.” The Status in Gaza Following the return of the head of Israel’s Mossad agency from Qatar last week, it appeared a ceasefire was on the table. However, only the opposite has appeared to be the case up to this point in the week. Earlier this week, approximately 150 terrorists were killed in an IDF operation in Gaza City. In the same operation, our troops destroyed nearly four miles of the underground tunnel system. While this is a great achievement, IDF lives are still being lost in the Gaza Strip. As I’ve said before and I’ll say again now, there’s no hunger in Gaza. Is Hamas monopolizing as much aid as possible and killing anyone who tries to gain access? Yes. But there’s no region-wide famine. These psychopaths beat a group of people in public, breaking multiple limbs, and then killed them in broad daylight after these people tried to take food. My question – Where is the international outrage? No Jews, no news! And yes, almost each and every week we find new evidence revealing UNRWA’s participation in the October 7 massacre. But we have other serious internal issues here in Israel. For example, guess what the head of Israel’s top human intelligence gathering unit was busy with in the months prior to October 7? Writing his book on the danger of climate change. The climate change cult is not only stupid but dangerous! In my opinion, ALL of Israel’s top generals must go home now! Increased Tension in the North As a result of the daily rocket launches across our northern border from Hezbollah, fires have been a common occurrence throughout the Galilee region. I’ve commonly said that, “Northern Israel is on fire.” Well, it’s no understatement. But fires aren’t our only issue. These terrorists are already hitting civilian areas in Northern Israel. Just days ago, a home was directly hit in the town of Kiryat Shmona. Of course, Israel continues to carry out targeted attacks in Lebanon in an attempt to take out key Hezbollah personnel and military sites. In fact, we killed a senior engineer behind the terror proxy’s air defense system. That said, we’re still dealing with multiple barrages of rockets on a weekly basis. And despite Hezbollah’s claims that war with Israel is not imminent, that couldn’t be further from the truth and their readiness actions show that they know this to be true. Moreover, escalations continue to take place. Just days ago, the personal guard of Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in addition to a senior commander for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This took place when the IDF destroyed the vehicle they were driving in from Syria to Beirut, Lebanon. However, Israel is mourning the loss of two civilians who were killed this week when a Hezbollah rocket hit their vehicle on the Golan Heights. The married couple left three children behind. Action in the West Bank With all that’s happening, it’s easy to forget that the IDF and other Israeli special forces are operating in the West Bank on a daily basis. Our troops are killing terrorists there on the regular as well. The IDF killed seven terrorists in one day in Jenin in Northern Samaria. Iranian Activity Don’t be fooled. While the world has been distracted with Israel and Gaza, Iran is still making moves. When the Islamic Republic isn’t preoccupied funding anti-American and anti-Israel protests with the US, it’s more than busy enhancing its activity at its nuclear sites throughout the country. France – Coming to a Country Near You Following the dangerous and disappointing French election over the last week wherein the conservative party lost and the significant expansion of Muslim influence increased, thousands of French Jewish families have opened aliyah files. Furthermore, requests from French Jews to relocate to Israel have soared by 430% since October 2023 amid skyrocketing antisemitism and post-election uncertainty. Antisemites make life impossible for Jews around the world. They are exactly why we need a Jewish state. But on a broader level, what is taking place in France with the rise of the progressive movement and Islamic influence is not an isolated issue. And just like ruling, globalist elites came after the candidate the people wanted in Israel and the US, the same is now happening in France. Standing with Israel Who you are identifying and standing with is far more important than who the mob is standing for! God has judged Israel for its sins. But God has, is, and will always judge the enemies of Israel for their hatred of His people! Don’t ever let the spiritual state of the people of Israel serve as an excuse to hate them and come against them! Zechariah 2:8 KJV – “For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.” The Lord allowed the Babylonian conquest and the captivity of His people. But guess what? He then judged the Babylonians for what they did: Jeremiah 51:24 KJV – “And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith the Lord.” Christians are (or at least should be) far above any emotional or intellectual-based arguments regarding the conflict in the Middle East. It is essential that you are holding a biblical belief empowered by the Holy Spirit who is in you. Without Him, you’ll NEVER be able to discern correctly and hold your ground. Why Has the Chinese Military Suddenly Become So Aggressive? In recent days Chinese troops have been sent to Belarus for military exercises, dozens of Chinese military aircraft have been threatening Taiwan, and four Chinese military vessels were even detected off the coast of Alaska. So why has China decided to become so aggressive all of a sudden? Right now, Joe Biden is facing endless questions about his competency, and those around him are focused on fighting for his political survival. So could foreign adversaries such as China use this window of opportunity to do things that they may not normally attempt to do? According to authorities in Taiwan, 66 Chinese military aircraft and 7 Chinese military vessels were “operating around Taiwan” on Wednesday… Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) on Thursday said that it had detected 66 Chinese military aircraft and vessels around the island, apparently en route to a Chinese military exercise in the Western Pacific. The media outlet embedded a statement by Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence on its X platform. “66 PLA aircraft and seven PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 am (2200 GMT Wednesday) today,” the statement said. When asked about this, the Chinese government responded by declaring that the operation was about protecting “its sovereignty and territorial integrity”… When asked about the warplanes crossing the median line at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian avoided directly responding. “The determination of China to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity remains unrelenting,” he said. The CCP insists that Taiwan is Chinese territory, and the Biden administration has been warned that “reunification” will take place at some point. Let us hope that the Chinese do not choose to use this current window of opportunity to “reunify” with Taiwan, because the moment that they invade we will be at war with China and everything will change. Unfortunately, it appears that the Chinese have been aggressively probing Taiwan’s maritime defenses. During the first six months of 2024, the Taiwanese Coast Guard “drove away 567 Chinese boats”… The coast guard drove away 567 Chinese boats and seized seven illegally operating in Taiwanese waters in the first six months of this year, the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) said yesterday. They mostly operated near Kinmen and Penghu counties, resulting in fines totaling NT$1.7 million (US$52,440), it said. Three ships — two near Kinmen County and one near Penghu County — were detained in January for illegally crossing the border, while one ship each was detained near Kinmen in February and Penghu in March respectively, it said. Meanwhile, the Chinese have been sniffing around our coastlines too. In fact, it is being reported that four Chinese military vessels were just spotted off the coast of Alaska… Multiple Chinese military ships were spotted by the U.S. Coast Guard in the waters off Alaska, officials said in a news release on Wednesday. Three vessels were detected about 124 miles north of the Amchitka Pass in the Aleutian Islands, and a fourth ship was spotted about 84 miles north of the state’s Amukta Pass. The ships were seen on Saturday and Sunday. All four ships were in international waters, the Coast Guard said, but were inside the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone, which extends 200 nautical miles from the U.S. shoreline. The reason that this incident is noteworthy is because it is very unusual. Chinese military vessels don’t normally operate so far north. Most people don’t realize this, but China now has the largest navy on the entire planet. I don’t know how we allowed that to happen, but we did. And it turns out that our own military industry has become extremely dependent on the Chinese. For example, it is being reported that Chinese semiconductors are in approximately “40% of all U.S. Department of Defense weapons systems and infrastructure”… A large number of Chinese semiconductors are used in critical military platforms, accounting for around 40% of all U.S. Department of Defense weapons systems and infrastructure, and are further linked to military supply chains such as Patriot air-defense missiles and B-2 bombers. For example, a Lockheed Martin missile factory situated in Alabama produces Javelin anti-tank weapons which use more than 200 semiconductors in each weapon. This equates to thousands of Chinese-made semiconductors within U.S. weaponry. “U.S. companies at the bottom of the supply chain pyramid often source these parts from China in open market transactions. As a result, many essential components in sensitive U.S. military systems now come from China. Countless major weapons platforms are vulnerable,” the report states. Our leaders aren’t exactly the sharpest tools in the shed, but this is ridiculous. Didn’t anyone consider the fact that one day we might actually end up in a war with China? Before I end this article, I wanted to give a quick update on the conflict in Ukraine. According to the BBC, at the big NATO conference this week the Ukrainians were told that they now have an “irreversible path” to membership in the alliance… Nato members have pledged their support for an “irreversible path” to future membership for Ukraine, as well as more aid. While a formal timeline for it to join the military alliance was not agreed at a summit in Washington DC, the military alliance’s 32 members said they had “unwavering” support for Ukraine’s war effort. Nato has also announced further integration with Ukraine’s military and members have committed €40bn ($43.3bn, £33.7bn) in aid in the next year, including F-16 fighter jets and air defence support. Needless to say, this is not going to sit well with the Russians at all. One of the reasons this war started was because Russia was determined to keep Ukraine out of NATO. Now F-16 fighter jets from a number of NATO countries are starting to be delivered to Ukraine, and the Russians have already warned that those fighter jets will be considered a nuclear threat… This summer, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium will begin sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, and Denmark and the Netherlands have said there will be no restrictions on the use of these planes to strike targets in Russia. F-16s are able to deliver nuclear weapons, and Russia has said the planes will be considered a nuclear threat. We are rapidly approaching a point of no return. I have been studying the Russians for a long time, and once they come to the conclusion that nuclear war is inevitable they will strike first. They know that there are no winners in a nuclear war, but they also know that whoever strikes first will have the best chance of surviving. It is true that even Yeshua spoke of the last days during His short ministry on earth, and His audience might have also thought that they were around the corner. Fast-forward to 2024, and we are still talking about the last days. What has changed, if anything? Biblically speaking, many–including myself–believe that the next event on the prophetic calendar is the Rapture of the believers. It will be a sign less event, meaning that nothing needs to precede it as a sign of its soon occurrence. It is also known as an imminent event. Yeshua will come to get us "like a thief in the night," as we can read in 1 Thessalonians 5:2. Once the Rapture takes place, the Antichrist will sign a pseudo-peace treaty with Israel (Daniel 9:27), and that will start the period of turmoil known as the Time of Jacob's Trouble" also known as the Great Tribulation (Jeremiah 30:7.) Regarding that specific time in history, people start looking at the rest of the events and disagree on the timing. When will the Ezekiel 38 war of Gog and Magog take place? What about the destruction of Damascus? Is the Psalm 83 War a real war, and could it happen soon? Don't forget the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37! For a while now, I have been convinced that the ONLY end times prophecy that we can claim with certainty is happening in front of our eyes, is the return of the Jews to Israel in unbelief. That is an event spoken of in Ezekiel 36. Spoiler Alert: Ezekiel 36 comes before 37 (valley of dry bones) and 38 (Gog and Magog)! It is well worth our time to look at a few critical verses in Ezekiel 36:24-29, 24 And I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands, and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness and from all your idols. 26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to do My judgments. 28 And you will inhabit the land that I gave to your fathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God. What an incredible promise from the God of Israel! None of it could happen without the birth of the modern state of Israel in 1948. That was the only pre-requisite. Israel had been in the Diaspora since AD 70, when the destruction of the Temple by the Romans occurred. Jewish people can still be found from all over the globe. While the Jewish Diaspora went unnoticed by most, it is interesting that Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, caught the vision and started a Jewish Study program to train pastors and workers to share the Good News with the Jewish people. The year was 1922, twenty-six years before the rebirth of Israel. They believed that the Jewish people would indeed return to the land of Eretz Yisrael in unbelief. They were so right! Ezekiel 36 tells us four things. First, God will take the Jews from the nations, which means that the Jews will come from the Diaspora that started almost 2,000 years ago. Next, God will gather you from all the lands, which means that the regathering is not a fluke of history but very much part of God’s plan for the end times. Then, God tells the Jewish people that He will bring you into your own land. For that to be possible, Israel has to exist and that started on May 14, 1948. The final event developed further in the prophecy of the valley of dry bones in chapter 37, is that Israel will be cleansed and given a new heart. This means total regeneration by God. The point here is that none of that can happen until the Jewish people are in Eretz Yisrael. About half of the Jewish people are still in the Diaspora, and the vast majority have established roots, invested in property, and built lives wherever they are. Making aliyah is not quite yet in the heart of all Jews. Is it possible that God is allowing things to change so that Jewish people would move faster back to the land of Israel? I believe it is, and this is why: Labour Party elected in the United Kingdom: Recently, the United Kingdom had elections and the Labour Party took power. This is the party of antisemite Jeremy Corbyn. It has a reputation of being pro-Palestinian, which unfortunately always comes with an anti-Israel position, while the opposite is seldom true. This is giving regular antisemites the additional boldness they needed to be more open about their Jew-hatred like in the recent case of an AirBnB canceled because the renter was an Israeli citizen and the owner was a Muslim who declared they couldn't "support what was taking place against the people of Gaza." Left elected in France: In an unprecedented upset, France gave power to the Left/Far Left when all believed that the Far Right Party of Marine Le Pen would win. The antisemitism spewed from the French Far Left is not even cloaked in anything else. Jean-Luc Mélenchon is openly antisemitic. To stop the Far Left, which they falsely painted as being a revival of the 1930s Vichy Government, France elected the Far Left, putting the third largest Jewish community in the world at significant risk for their lives. It is true that Le Pen's party is n to the greatest friend of the Jews, but they are quite removed from the diatribes of her dad Jean-Marie Le Pen. After the results were published, Rabbi Moshe Sebbag, from the Grand Synagogue of Paris, claimed, “France has no future for Jews." Incidentally, over 2,000 French/Jewish families have opened files to make aliyah in the last 72 hours. Far Left Pushing anti-Israel agenda in the USA: It is evident that since October 7, 2023, the Far Left has promoted the Palestinian narrative. The Campus intifadas and violent street protests in favor of the terrorist group Hamas have been off the chart. It seems that the enemies of Israel have been given carte blanche with no fear of legal retaliations. The rest of the world doesn't look much more favorable, either. While God never has and never will condone antisemitism, the Bible is replete with examples of Him allowing other people groups to interact with Israel and forcing Jewish people into decisions they would have not made otherwise (Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans and many more.) These changing governments might become the catalyst to the fulfillment of the Jewish return to Israel in unbelief according to Ezekiel, in preparation for the final chapter of human history and the final salvation of Israel. Just remember that God allowing is very different from God condoning. My people need Yeshua more than ever, and while the 144,000 Jewish men of the Tribulation will play a huge part towards that goal, we are not there yet and God wants to utilize you and me right now! Put Your Faith in Jesus, not a Man - Nathele Graham - [email protected] “Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with timbrel and harp. For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand;” Psalm 149:3-6. People like to cheer. Whether it’s watching a small boy step up to the t-ball stand and actually hit the ball, or cheering for a professional baseball player when he hits a winning home run. We get excited and jump with joy and shout. Political rallies also bring out much enthusiasm, as our favorite candidate promises lower taxes, less government, more freedoms, and much more. The problem is that home run hitters don’t always hit the ball over the fence, and political promises are easily forgotten. I wonder why we get so thrilled over these temporary things, but have no joy in what really matters. What matters for eternity is putting our faith in Jesus Christ. Why put your faith in a mere human to bring joy and happiness, when Jesus forgives the sins of a truly repentant person and gives eternal life? Jesus is the only One who deserves our praise, but very few church services have any enthusiasm. Preachers preach watered down sermons to the point that these sermons have become lullabies, and many people use that time to take a nap. I attended a church once where the preacher spent a good chunk of the sermon boasting of his many theological degrees and quoting rock and roll singers and secular psychologists. There was no joy in the Lord. The first of the Ten Commandments says “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3. In today’s world, we seem to have forgotten that truth. Christians aren’t under the Law because Jesus fulfilled the Law but He didn’t destroy it. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” Matthew 5:17. That means that Jesus shed His own blood as the sacrifice for our sin, and you must believe in that sacrifice for redemption. God’s moral law is still in force. We know that we sin if we steal, lie, covet, etc., but through Jesus Christ our sins are forgiven. We no longer have to shed the blood of animals in order to cover our sin. Animal blood could never take sin away. Jesus was God incarnate; His blood was pure and untainted by sin. Salvation only comes by true faith in Jesus. He was fully God, so He could redeem us, and He was fully human so that He was our kinsman. Because of Jesus Christ we can live eternally with Him. Why don’t Christians get excited over that? Preachers need to study Scripture to see how Peter spoke to people on the day of Pentecost and brought 3,000 men to salvation. The Apostles had no problem confronting sin, even though it was politically incorrect to call sin, sin. God’s truth was more important to them than being seeker friendly. Jesus was God and chose to step into His creation. He knew that He would be killed, but His love was perfect and He fulfilled every prophecy concerning His life and death. His sacrifice is something we need to really understand and praise Him with all of our heart. Put your faith in Jesus, not a man. In today’s world, sin is sugar-coated and made not to seem as bad as it truly is. Preachers “tickle ears” and compromise God’s truth so they don’t offend the congregation. Sin is truly ugly and when it’s accepted within Christian circles, it’s disgraceful. God created all things. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” John 1:1-4. Jesus is the Word and created all that exists. That’s exciting! Still, people choose to believe lies about evolution and take the glory away from God. Think of living in a beautiful garden with all the food you could possibly want. Read about it in Genesis chapter 1. There were no genetically tampered with vegetables, no pesticide poisoned food, or other manmade dangers. It was food the way God made it to be. The water was pure and plentiful. There was only one thing that was forbidden and that was eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. “And the LORD God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17. God wasn’t being mean, just protecting Adam and Eve from eternal death. If you have diabetes and go to a lunch buffet, you find lots of good nourishing food available for you to eat. There are also desserts. These are not to be eaten by diabetics. Is that mean, or is it protecting your health and life? It was the same way in the Garden of Eden. There was plenty to eat and only one thing was forbidden. Eve listened to Satan’s lies and Adam listened to Eve, and they found out what God meant about death. As the Apostle Paul wrote to the Romans. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 6:23. Thank God for His mercy and grace. Sin and death entered the world because of a man, and that sin still separates humans from God. Redemption came when God shed His own blood as our final sacrifice to take sin away. Isn’t it time that you placed your faith in Jesus? Isn’t it time you share the joy of your salvation? Because of false teachings from pulpits and books written by people who twist God’s truth, sin doesn’t seem so bad. Sin is bad and you must repent. It’s true about God’s love and forgiveness, but don’t forget about repentance and turning from sin. Many people believe that Jesus was an historical figure, but don’t repent of their sin. Faith has to be real and should motivate you to do good works in the name of Jesus. “Thou believest that there is one God: thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” James 2:19. Head knowledge of Jesus makes you acknowledge that He lived, but heart knowledge makes you want to live for Him. It will make you excited that He forgave your sins and it will move you to a desire to turn away from sin and live for Him. Jesus is the only way to salvation and no man could have ever taken sin away. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1. The only way we can show Jesus how much we love Him is to live to please Him. Our joy needs to be in Him. We can’t have that joy if we hold on to our sin and live for the world. There was joy in being with Jesus. I would love to have been there to hear His words. Did He say we had to repent of sin? “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God. And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15. By His example, Jesus taught His disciples how to preach. “And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; and commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse: but be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.” Mark 6:7-9. How many preachers today are content with so little? Certainly not Rick Warren or Joel Osteen or any mega-church preacher. They also don’t preach the true Gospel or repentance. The Disciples preached truth. “And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.” Mark 6:12-13. Perhaps if we put our faith in Jesus rather than in a man, we could have the power of the Holy Spirit work through us, just as the disciples did. They cast out demons rather than accepting the sin these devils caused. They healed the sick, what a blessing. Today, people are deceived into believing that there are many ways to Heaven. Wrong. Jesus is the only way. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6. No man could ever bring salvation. Instead of cheering for humans, following human leaders, or buying into worldly ways, we need to give our lives to God. Jesus Christ gave everything to purchase our redemption, that’s exciting and humbling. God loved us enough to sacrifice Himself so we can live. Repent and follow Him, not a man. Jesus is the only way of salvation. All roads do not lead to Heaven. If there was any way to Heaven except through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, then God wouldn’t have had to become human and shed His blood for our salvation. Study Biblical prophecy. It fills a very large portion of Scripture, so God thinks it’s important. He wants us to know what’s ahead. It will also show you how important faith in Jesus is today. There will be many wars, and wickedness will abound. The time of Jacob’s Trouble is approaching…the Great Tribulation. It’s easy to be afraid as we watch world events. Christians, have the Blessed Hope found only in Christ. We will be taken Home prior to the events of the Great Tribulation. What a blessing, and it only comes through faith in Jesus. Politicians promise if we vote for this man or that man, all will be well. Only Jesus can give true Hope. Study Prophecy and it will help you to witness to people. We are living in a time when many prophecies are being fulfilled, and even non-believers can feel there’s something big about to happen. Beware of AI, microchip implants, and other “miracles of science”. If you study prophecy and keep tuned to what people like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Klaus Schwab, George Soros, and others have planned for humanity, you will be dumbfounded. They are bringing about the Mark of the Beast, and other end time prophecies. This is a witnessing tool that will show people they must trust Jesus, not a man. A very good source of information is videos by Billy Crone. Share the Gospel with a friend and lead them to repentance and faith in Jesus. The world around us seems to be falling apart, and wickedness is winning the spiritual war, but Scripture tells us something different. The Rapture is drawing near. Jesus described the Tribulation period in the Olivet Discourse. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no nor ever shall be. And except these days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” Matthew 24:21-22. Christians won’t be here for the Tribulation, and we should be full of worship and praise for our Lord because of this. We must put our faith in Jesus Christ, because if we put our faith in a man, he just might be the Anti-Christ. Only Jesus deserves our praise. So, if you’re tempted to go to a rock concert and scream and yell praises to a band that sings about drugs, sex, and demonic things, ask yourself, “What have these people done to earn my praises?” Ask yourself that same question when you go to a sporting event, or a political rally. Why don’t Christians find joy in walking with the Lord? Ask yourself every day “What did Jesus do for me?” and then praise Him accordingly. Put your faith in Jesus, not a man. Daily Jot: The American Chronicles: A ride to the wild side - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com Chris, our son Christian, his fiancé Claire and myself spent some time at Chincoteague, Va camping, well maybe glamping on the island noted for the wild pony roundups each year. The ponies are registered descendants of a Spanish galleon that wrecked off the coast of nearby Assateague Island hundreds of years ago. The ponies were made famous when author Marguerite Henry wrote the book Misty, telling the true story of how two children raised the filly of a wild Chincoteague Pony. Each year “saltwater cowboys” round up a number of the ponies and auction them to worthy homes, benefitting the local fire department. This is a story, however, of taking a ride to the wild side of the island and what we discovered. The morning started off with a gourmet breakfast cooked by Chris—well a gourmet as possible on a camp stove and a Blackstone grill. It was pretty a pretty hearty breakfast sandwich. Then we geared up for the several mile ride from the campground through the wilderness trail across the bridge to Assateague Island. Chris and I are no strangers to the ride on the paved bike path through the marshes and tall grass along the way. There is always plenty of wildlife to see, mainly a multitude of different species of birds. We make the trek on our well-geared Fuji Crosstown bikes. Claire and Christian, however, were at the mercy of one-speed, well-used bikes rented from the campground. Christian, at 6’4” and a former college defensive end, looked like a normal person riding a small child’s bike, his knees tucked about under his chin legs peddling along in the 85-degree humidity. So you can imagine how it was us gliding along on our swift machines and Christian and Claire getting a real workout and we were hardly a quarter of the way around. About halfway around the wilderness trail there was a sign for the wilderness beach, pointing off a winding path through tall grass and sand. It said the beach was a half mile away. So we took the bait. Pumping our legs along and working up a good sweat, we finally reached an area where there were several bike racks and parked, took our shoes off and left them beside the bikes. There was a sandy path leading up through the dunes. Alongside the path was a sign that read something like “Wilderness Outhouse Courtesy of Parks and Recreation.” It consisted of driftwood log and a roll of toilet paper on a twig. Up the path, over the dune, was an untouched beautiful beach that stretched for miles in each direction. Beauty to behold. We gathered for a couple of pictures and tested the cold water, then headed back. I was teasing Christian that I could ride his bike better and we had a Tom Sawyer moment where I got to give it a try. Well, no mercy. I kept up but it was a real hard workout all the way back, and I had the leg cramps to prove it! The good book says to commit your work to the Lord and he will establish your plans. My plan was to make it back, which was established. We were relieved to return, but basked in the memory of the ride to the wild side. What was the last thing you heard someone say before they died? Jesus wasn’t dying, but He was leaving. And these were the final words He gave to the disciples before His ascension: “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18–20 NLT). How would they pull this off from a human standpoint? The apostles were in no way ready for such a task. There were things they still didn’t understand. Their faith was weak. They had failed in their public witness and also in their private faith. After all, Simon Peter, their acknowledged leader, had openly denied the Lord. So, how could Jesus expect Peter and the other disciples to go into all the world and preach the gospel? They would do it with a power they had never known before, a power to change the world. Jesus told them, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8 NLT). This was power to be a witness, power to share their faith, and power to do what Jesus had called them to do. The same power that God poured out on the Day of Pentecost is available to us today. Speaking on Pentecost about the promise of the Holy Spirit, Peter said, “This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God” (Acts 2:39 NLT). That includes us. There are two dangers that we can fall into as we look at these things. The first is to go beyond Scripture or even contradict it. And sadly, much of what some people are doing today in the name of the Holy Spirit has little or nothing to do with Him. Far too often, they attribute their bizarre or aberrant behavior to the Holy Spirit. As a result, we recoil from it. The other danger, which is just as bad, is to neglect to seek something that Scripture clearly offers us. It’s to say, “Well, because I don’t have it, then it must not be real.” Yet the Bible has promised every believer a dimension of power to be a witness for Jesus Christ. Notice that Jesus didn’t tell the disciples He would give the Holy Spirit to those who plead with Him or beg Him. We need only to ask Him. And when we don’t receive all that God has for us in our lives, that is called quenching the Spirit. Have you asked for this power?
