The Jewish State Knows Who Its Friends Are… And So Does The God Of Israel – By Amir Tsarfati - https://harbingersdaily.com/amir-tsarfati-jewish-state-knows-who-its-friends-are-and-so-does-god-of-israel/
Shalom from the beautiful, summery Israel! It has been warm and dry, and it seems that all that’s fallen from the sky lately had its origins in Lebanon. Actually, they were just launched from Lebanon. We have Iran to thank for our nightly fireworks display. But more about that below. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t worry about Israel. God has us safely in His hand. He has mapped out our future and He will carry out His will. I am much more concerned with the United States, the United Kingdom, and the rest of Europe. I see them spiraling down as the result of terrible domestic and international decisions they have made over the recent years. I also worry as I see them separating themselves from Israel, some countries faster than others. The Scriptures make it clear that God watches these relationships, and He acts accordingly. In Israel, we recognize who our friends are and who are merely pretending to support us. We’ve been burned before, and we won’t allow ourselves to be burned again. What a week it has been with wars and rumors of wars – threats by Iran, airstrikes against Lebanon, a U.S. aircraft carrier group shifting to the Middle East. The Offended Ayatollah Khamenei There have been constant threats issuing from Iran ever since Hamas political bureau head, Ismail Haniyeh, was blown up while sleeping in Tehran. Hamas is just a pawn on Ayatollah Khamenei’s chessboard, so his heart is not broken over the loss of the terrorist. What he and all the other ayatollahs in the regime are upset about is the embarrassment of it happening on their soil – right in the heart of their capital city. Immediately after Haniyeh left this life, Iran promised revenge. In the past, that may not have meant much. But after Iran’s “Operation True Promise” back in April that saw more than 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles, and 120 ballistic missiles launched at Israel, people are taking this threat seriously. Other countries have gotten involved to one extent or another. The Saudis have told Iran that they better not send anything over their airspace, while Jordan has said the same thing to both Tehran and Jerusalem. Just this past week, the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group was ordered into the Gulf of Oman to relieve the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Tensions in Israel are very high as we wait for the Iranian response. Just two days ago, Tehran called a special meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take place yesterday. The anticipation has been that nothing will happen until after that meeting takes place. To satisfy their bloodlust as they wait, the regime has executed 36 people in the last 24 hours in two prisons outside of Tehran. Meanwhile, Hamas has replaced Ismail Haniyeh as head of the political bureau with tunnel rat Yahya Sinwar. Immediately following the announcement, Sinwar could be seen in the corner of his underground office scribbling out his last will and testament. The Offended Hassan Nasrallah As angry as Ayatollah Khamenei is about the Mossad killing someone he didn’t like, Hassan Nasrallah, secretary-general of Hezbollah, is even more furious about Israel killing someone he did like. On July 30, an Israeli airstrike in Beirut sent Fuad Shukr, a long-wanted Hezbollah terrorist and the man responsible for the killing of twelve children in Majdal Shams three days earlier, to his eternal destination. Nasrallah, as he is prone to do, vowed revenge. Once again, people took the Hezbollah leader seriously. Many countries have pulled their officials out of Lebanon and are warning their citizens to get out fast. The UK even has forces on standby in case their civilians need their help. Many are concerned that whatever retaliation Nasrallah comes up with very well might kick off the war in the north. But for now, no one knows what Nasrallah has planned. “We will respond to the assassination, but carefully,” he said. For now, he says that the fear Hezbollah’s retaliation is causing in Israel is part of the payback. In the meantime, the back and forth between the two sides continues. Israel is heavily striking Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. Yesterday, senior military commander Amir Badreddine was killed in an IDF strike in Maifadoun, southern Lebanon. Badreddine was the son of key Hezbollah leader Mustafa Badreddine who had been in charge of the assassination of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri in 2005 and was himself killed near the Damascus Airport in 2016. Hezbollah also remains active sending on Tuesday its biggest rocket barrage since the beginning of the war at the Israeli cities of Metula, Kfar Giladi, and Kiryat Shmona. Terrorist Attack in Israel A senior couple were taking their morning walk when a 34-year-old Palestinian, in the country illegally, attacked them with a knife. Rina Daniv, 66, was killed and her husband Shimon, 68, was seriously wounded. The terrorist continued through a park entrance where he confronted a man in his 70s, mortally wounding him. Finally, he attacked 26-year-old Yakov Libertov, moderately wounding him, before a police officer put the man down. A statement from Hamas said that the attack was a “natural response” to Israeli attacks on Palestinians. And people wonder why there will never be peace. United Nations Admits Terrorist UNRWA Nobody who knows anything about UNRWA is shocked that at least nine of their employees took part in the October 7 massacre. What we’re all shocked about is that the United Nations actually admitted it. Maybe it’s time the UN starts thinking about disbanding this antisemitic, genocidal group. Kamala Harris picks Tim Walz as Running Mate Oy! Please, America, for the sake of Israel and for the sake of the world, please do the right thing come November. Political Violence in Bangladesh Protests had grown over the past couple months against Bangladesh’s Sheikh Hasina. When they began to get out of hand, she ordered her army chief to enforce a lockdown. He refused. That was when she realized that she no longer had the military behind her. She fled the country on Monday. Once she left, many in the Muslim majority began violently attacking the Hindu minority whom they perceived as supporters of Hasina. In some areas, the brutality has turned into a massacre with Hindu men, women, and children being slaughtered, with many being hung up for public display or dragged through the streets. But what have you heard about this brutality? Nothing, or at least very little. And what you may have heard has been a watered-down version. Once again: no Jews, no news. Ukraine on Offensive Inside Russia Yes, you heard it right. Ukraine has breached the Russian border and is now advancing on a nuclear power plant in Kursk oblast. They’ve already destroyed a gas pumping station that is the largest transferrer of natural gas to Europe. The area around the incursion is in a state of emergency and Russian President Vladimir Putin has called Ukraine’s move a “large-scale provocation”. From whom might Ukraine have learned about large-scale provocations? Are Religious Leaders in Israel Getting Ready To Sacrifice A Red Heifer? - by Michael Snyder - https://endoftheamericandream.com/are-religious-leaders-in-israel-getting-ready-to-sacrifice-a-red-heifer/ Is the world about to be shocked by the sacrifice of a red heifer in the land of Israel? On September 15th, 2022 five perfect red heifers were flown into Israel from the state of Texas. That got a lot of attention, but at that time all of those red heifers were too young to qualify for a red heifer sacrifice. A couple of years have passed since then and now they are all old enough to qualify, and it is being reported that rituals that would be part of a red heifer sacrifice are being practiced. The information that I am about to share with you is quite stunning, but it does not mean that a red heifer sacrifice is about to take place. Ultimately, authorities in Israel will decide when they feel that the time is right. I think that those that brought the red heifers to Israel were planning to sacrifice one of them once they reached the proper age. But then the war started and that changed everything. In fact, a spokesperson for Hamas identified the red heifers as one of the reasons why Israel was attacked on October 7th, 2023… Twenty miles north of Jerusalem, five Texas Red Angus cows chew on grass, oblivious to the fact that their mere presence in Israel was cited by Hamas as a reason for its massacre of Israeli civilians on October 7. The terror organization’s spokesperson says the cows were a justification for the attack, stating that bringing them to Israel was “an aggression” based on a “detestable religious myth.” Apparently Hamas was convinced that if a red heifer was sacrificed Israel would make a move to take control of the Temple Mount so that the rebuilding of the Temple could begin… Hamas has called the importation of the red cows an act of “aggression” because it falsely believes that the presence of the cows may ignite the rebuilding of the Temple, which the group thinks would end Arab control of the Temple Mount, where the Al-Aqsa Mosque is located. Those that are involved in the red heifer project did not want to inflame tensions even more, and so the sacrifice of a red heifer was put off for another time. But now that Hamas has almost been totally defeated, does that change things? Middle East Eye is reporting that some of those involved in the red heifer project have been practicing for the day when a sacrifice will finally be allowed… A group of religious Israelis have been pictured practising the ritual of the red heifer, which is meant to herald the building of a new Jewish temple on the site of Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to Jewish tradition, the ashes of a perfectly red heifer cow are needed for the ritual purification that would allow a third temple to be built in Jerusalem. Israeli journalist Yinon Magal was the one who originally broke this story. The following is an English translation of what he posted on Twitter… “Temple worshipers are now practicing the mitzvah [religious duty] of a red cow in front of the Temple Mount, which will enable the return of purity and the observance of all the temple mitzvahs,” posted journalist Yinon Magal on Tuesday, along with a picture of activists from the Temple Institute. There are two things that immediately jump out at me from this picture. Number one, the cow that we see is most certainly not one of the five red heifers. In fact, it is obviously not anywhere close to being a perfect red heifer. Number two, this photograph was not taken on the Mount of Olives, because we can see the Mount of Olives in the background. When they decide that the time has finally come for a red heifer to be sacrificed, it will be sacrificed on the Mount of Olives. But of course practice for such a ceremony can be conducted anywhere. Ever since 1921, Jewish people have been prohibited from entering the Temple Mount unless they are ritually clean, and they can’t be ritually clean without the ashes of a red heifer… The Chief Rabbinate of Jerusalem has also, since 1921, officially banned Jews from entering the Temple Mount. It ruled that Jews are forbidden to enter the site unless “ritually clean”, which is impossible without the ashes of a red heifer. Many religious leaders are very much looking forward to the day when the ashes of a red heifer are finally available. But one official from the Temple Institute recently told the Daily Wire that there “is no plan right now for using a kosher red heifer, killing it and turning it into ashes”… Conducting a red heifer ceremony is controversial in rabbinic circles, and there is far from a consensus over whether it can even be done, according to the Temple Institute, which provides rabbinical supervision for the cows. “There is no plan right now for using a kosher red heifer, killing it and turning it into ashes,” Yitzchak Reuven, the director of international development for the Temple Institute told The Daily Wire. “Anyone saying this is making it up. We will only do this when the time is right, because there is no point in doing it if the Jewish and rabbinic world won’t accept it.” That sounds pretty definitive. So even though they may be doing practice runs, we may not see the real thing for a while. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking for the five red heifers. In a previous article, I explained that the Temple Institute has determined that a red heifer does not qualify for a red heifer sacrifice until its third year has begun… As for the time the red heifer may be used for this commandment – the Sages state that it is valid when it reaches maturity, i.e. from the beginning of its third year. [13] From this age and onward the red heifer is valid without age limitations. Though, ideally, one should not wait till it passes the age of four, lest it grows hairs of colors that deem it invalid. [14] All of the red heifers that were flown into Israel in 2022 are now old enough to qualify. But as time passes, there is a risk that these red heifers will develop hairs that are not red and be disqualified. More than half a million dollars has already been spent on these particular red heifers, and if every single one of them is ultimately disqualified those involved in the project will have to start from scratch. I don’t think they want to do that. So we shall see what happens. Personally, I have a feeling that there is more going on behind the scenes than we are being told. PROPHECY UPDATE VIDEOS

These well-meaning people usually have been incorrectly taught that in 1830 John Darby was the one who came up with the Pre-tribulational Rapture doctrine. So I decided to put into print a brief synopsis of why that is utterly ridiculous. Usually, these objectors' root problem is that they're not viewing the Bible through a dispensational lens. Once you understand dispensations, a lot of things clear up—like the Pre-trib Rapture doctrine. Dispensational theology demands a literal view of scripture. By their very definition, dispensations can’t overlap. One has to stop before another can start. All past dispensations happened this way. And when you divide the Bible into dispensations, it shows there’s a clear difference between Israel, the Church Age and the Tribulation. Each one stops, then the next one begins. Israel in the future is often a stumbling block to non-dispensationalists. But God is NOT finished with Israel! “Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us. He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him." Hos. 6:1-2 Using the Day/Age theory, that unfulfilled prophecy says that Israel will be torn and wounded for 2000 years. But then the Lord will raise them back up and they will live in His presence in the Millennium. You can’t read Romans chapters 9, 10 and 11 and miss the fact God clearly will put Israel back as His primary focus in the future, after the Rapture. We’re seeing Him putting all the pieces in place today. Viewing the Bible literally means we believe everything God said. We believe God created the heavens and the earth by speaking them into existence over six literal 24-hour days, 6000 years ago.(1) This means any teaching that says the earth evolved over millions or billions of years is a myth from the pit of hell. The very first verse of the Bible says: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Gen. 1:1 The verses following describe the 6 days of God's creation and one day of rest. Using a literal translation of the Bible means that in Noah’s time there was a literal flood of judgment of sin on the entire earth. The flood covered all the high mountains destroying all humans and animals… except eight members of Noah’s family. (Gen. 6:1-8:22) And believing the Bible literally means Jonah survived three days and three nights in the belly of a fish before being vomited out to preach sin and repentance. It’s interesting that Jesus Himself mentioned creation (Mark 10:6), the worldwide flood of Noah (Luke 17:26), and Jonah inside the big fish (Matt. 12:40). Jesus took the scriptures literally, and so should we. And reading God’s infallible Word from a literal perspective, Daniel 9:24-27 tells us there are seven years of wrath coming, followed by Jesus’ 1000-year reign as King of the earth. The Presbyterians, Episcopalians, Catholics, Lutherans and others don’t believe there's a 7-year period of God's wrath coming. But there is. And they don't believe Jesus will literally reign on earth as King for 1000 years. But when God says six times in six straight verses that Jesus will reign in the future as King of the Earth for 1000 years (Rev. 20:2-7), that means Jesus will literally reign as King of the Earth for 1000 years following His Second Coming. God said it; we believe it. The Catholic Church has always taught a non-dispensational view of scripture. And they had a chokehold on church doctrine for about 1000 years—from roughly 500 AD to 1500 AD. This has become known as the Dark Ages. The invention of the printing press in 1440 AD allowed the Bible to be widely read. And in 1517, when Martin Luther protested the Catholic doctrine of man's salvation being based on what you do or not do, the Dark Ages ended and the Age of Enlightenment began. Recently Tucker Carlson, who attends a mainline denominational church (Episcopal), sadly allowed his show guest, country musician John Rich, to rail on about why he believed the Pre-trib position was ungodly. (Interview and comments HERE) Rich claimed the Pre-trib doctrine was first taught by J.N. Darby in 1830. He further opined that the word “Rapture” was not in the Bible. Well, he's correct that the word “Rapture” is not in the Bible. But neither is the word "Trinity!" But, of course, the teaching is. The word “Rapture,” like the word "Trinity," simply describes a doctrine clearly outlined in the Bible. The word “Rapture” may not be in the English Bible but was coined from the word "rapturo" in the Latin Bible. It means “snatched up” or “caught up.” The translation implies God is going to snatch away the Believers before He pours out His divine wrath on earth. And He will. Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, ... 1Cor. 15:51a The Bible promises that Believers in the Church Age will not receive God’s wrath coming on the earth. We may be individually persecuted, even to death, but we will not ever be the recipients of God’s wrath. Jesus paid it all. For God has not destined us for wrath, 1Th. 5:9 Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come. 1Thes. 1:10a Yes, Darby did a lot to popularize the Pre-trib position in the early 1800s. But he was not the first person—by a long shot. According to Tommy Ice, Executive Director of the Pre-Trib Institute, they have identified 60 pre-Trib statements from 100 AD until Darby in 1830 with only minor differences. Here are just a few... Paul of Tarsus (5-65AD), of course, taught the Pre-trib position in his God-inspired letters to the Churches in Corinth and Thessalonica. Realistically, that’s all anyone needs to know. Justin Martyr (100-165 AD) held to a Pre-trib position. He taught five different dispensations. Enoch to Noah Abraham Moses Christ Millennium Irenaeus (130-203 AD) also taught five dispensations: Adam to Noah Noah to Moses Moses to Christ Christ to Millennium Millennium Tertullian (155-220) was first to teach six dispensations. Adam Noah Abraham Moses Christ Millennium Methodius (d. 311), and Victorinus of Petau (d. 304) also taught dispensational theology and Pre-trib Rapture. The Dark Ages (500-1500 AD), when the Catholic Church controlled doctrine, dispensationalism was largely absent. The Reformation With the invention of the printing press in 1440, the Bible was the first book printed. Errors of Catholic Church doctrine were easily seen by born-again Believers and the Catholic Church choke-hold on Bible doctrine was broken. In 1517 Martin Luther protested the doctrines of the Catholic Church and his followers became known as protesters. The protestors became know as the first Protestants. But Luther had his hands full dealing with "saved by faith" not "by works." The Catholic Church was trying to kill him thinking he was an infidel. So he didn't have time to research any pre-millennial doctrines. Neither did Calvin or other early protestant teachers. It was 100 years later when the first Believers began noticing other errors in the Catholic Church's doctrine. Later denominations like Baptists, Assemblies of God, Churches of God and today's Calvary Chapels and Bible Churches all hold to pre-millennial doctrines. 250 years before Darby (1580 AD), the doctrine of Covenant Theology was first introduced, dividing the Bible into two covenants (i.e. two dispensations), a forerunner of modern dispensationalism. Pierre Poiret (1687) aligned 7 dispensations with human life: I- Infancy—to the Deluge 2- Childhood—to Moses 3- Adolescence—to the prophets 4- Youth—to the coming of Christ 5- Manhood—"some time after that” (Church Age) 6- Old Age—"the time of man’s decay” (Church Age) 7- Renovation of all things—(Millennium) Isaac Watts (1674 - 1748) wrote about dispensations in an essay entitled “The Harmony of all the Religions which God Prescribed to Men.” I. The Dispensation of Innocence 2. Adam after the Fall 3. The Noahic Dispensation 4. The Abrahamic Dispensation 5. The Mosaic Dispensation 6. The Christian Dispensation John Darby (1800-1882) was an English Clergyman who extensively promoted dispensationalism worldwide. Cyrus Scofield (1843-1921) popularized dispensations through numerous books and publications. Lewis Sperry Chafer (1871-1952) popularized dispensations through numerous books and publications. Charles Ryrie (1925-2016) edited the majorly successful Ryrie Study Bible (over 2 million copies) that promoted classical dispensationalism. Paul D. Van Noy (1960- ), Pastor and Bible prophecy teacher in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was the first to popularize 7 Dispensations but has Israel as a single dispensation while adding Tribulation as a separate dispensation. (This is the model Compass uses.) Andy Woods (1969- ), Pastor and President of Chafer Theological Seminary, gives the clearest doctrinal teaching on pre-tribulational Dispensational theology today. Andy has the best 5-minute recap of why Pre-trib is the only possible way to understand scripture. CLICK HERE and stand up and yell! It's a great link for those pesky Mid-tribbers. So there you have it. Proof Darby did NOT invent the Pre-Trib, Mid-Trib or Post-Trib doctrines. So give it a rest! The Real Problem Because dispensational theology takes a literal view of scripture and therefore teaches Jesus will reign for 1000 years from Jerusalem in the future, the main objection is really not Pre-Trib Rapture, it’s objecting to dispensational theology! CQLJ! BP Note: 1) God didn’t really need six, 24-hour days to create the heavens and earth. He could have created it all in a split second. But He did for a purpose—to give us a pattern. The six days of work and one day of rest was a model for us to use in our lives. It's also a model of the 7000 years God created for human history. Each 24-hour day equals 1000 years. But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 2Pet. 3:8 6,000 years of human history will transpire before 1000 years of Jesus' reign begins. More info: 2 Days in Scripture The Rapture Is Coming, The Rapture Is Coming! - By Dale V. Nobbman - https://www.raptureready.com/2024/08/03/the-rapture-is-coming-the-rapture-is-coming-by-dale-v-nobbman/ The Rapture is coming, the Rapture is coming! If you are a student of American history, this phrase may sound like the verbal warning announced to American colonists by patriots on horseback in April of 1775, spreading the urgent message that ‘the British are coming, the British are coming! ‘The Rapture is coming’ needs to be the urgent message spread by Christians to all the people of the world that Jesus Christ is coming one day soon for His Church (Christians), and people should be watching and preparing for His return. This important message is meant, in part, so that people everywhere may accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior before the coming Rapture in order that as many people as possible can avoid the terrible, terrible seven-year Great Tribulation period. Until the Rapture takes place, there is still time for individuals around the world to believe in Jesus Christ and be spared from the worst time ever known to mankind on Earth. The ever-increasing frequency and intensity of the ‘signs of the time’ listed in the Bible seem to indicate that the Rapture, followed by the Great Tribulation, is fast approaching. Therefore, now is not the time to delay your decision for Christ. You don’t want to be around when all ‘hell’ breaks loose on Earth. “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). “But God proves His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). “If you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart, you believe and are justified [in the sight of God], and with your mouth you confess and are saved” (Romans 10:9-10). On April 18, 1775, Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Dr. Samuel Prescott rode horseback from near Boston, west down the road to Lexington and Concord, alerting the Colonial Minutemen to be ready for the advancing British troops. The next day, on April 19, the Minutemen were ready, the British troops arrived, shots were fired, and the American Revolutionary War had officially commenced. Unlike the timely warning given to the colonists by the three American patriots the evening before the military confrontation, there will not be an advance notice about when the Rapture takes place. That’s because not a single human being knows when the Rapture (snatching away) will take place, but it will simply happen in the ‘twinkling of an eye’ as the Bible puts it (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). Jesus tells us in scripture that only God the Father knows when it will happen. That is why it is so important for every individual to not put off their decision to accept Jesus today as their personal Savior, and therefore settle the matter of their eternal salvation before it is too late to escape the horrific tribulation time, which follows the Rapture. You do not want to be left behind to suffer through the unthinkable calamities on Earth, as detailed in the Bible! (Read the book of Revelation.) There are and will be scoffers during the last days for those who do not believe in the Rapture but will follow their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of His coming? Ever since our fathers fell asleep, everything continues as it has from the beginning of creation” (2 Peter 3:4). Do not believe the scoffers. Yes, it surely seems like things are continuing as normal, but suddenly, one day soon, it will all change in an instant, without warning. Who will you believe, scoffers, or the Bible? If you read the Bible, you will find all the Biblical prophecies have a 100% accuracy record! I have written the following words suitable for use as a song about the coming rapture of Christians. If you wish, you may want to try singing these lyrics to the old gospel song tune of ‘I’ll Fly Away.’ THE RAPTURE SONG By Dale V. Nobbman Someday soon, Jesus Christ will come again Someday soon, Jesus Christ will come again Someday soon, Jesus Christ will come again Oh, happy day! Jesus will come again to take believers home Jesus will come again to take believers home Jesus will come again to take believers home Oh, happy day! Daily Jot: The American Chronicles: A heritage tour - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com People often ask what they can do as something special to get away. Whether you are camping or just touring, a heritage tour might be fun. But make sure you don’t forget essentials. Last fall, we drove up the coast of New England. Kind of a heritage tour. We had finished church on time and I rushed everybody out the door so Chris, Service Dog Charlie, and I could get on the road. We were on the toward our first stop—Valley Forge. Two hours into the trip through some of the most beautiful farmland in Pennsylvania, I received a work text where a particular file was needed. It was then that I had that shot of adrenalin like when you see the blue lights in the mirror. I had forgotten my laptop. We had to turn back. Arriving at our campsite later that evening, we had to postpone our Valley Forge visit to the next morning. Flexibility is key when you forget things. The Valley Forge camp was where General George Washington brought his Continental Army to face one of its most important battles of the Revolutionary War. Historians would say that Washington’s army of over 8,000 men fought no battles during their winter encampment. I beg to differ. From December 19, 1777 to June 19, 1778, the fledgling army fought its most important battle—some 2,000 soldiers lost their lives. Washington was leading his men in a battle against attrition, disease, cold weather, exposure, and starvation within a few miles of the much stronger British forces. This winter encampment tested the will of the Americans and inspired the tenacity it took to defeat the British. My 5th great grandfather David Wilson was one of them. I’m reminded of the first winter endured by the Pilgrims in Plymouth some 150 years earlier. They, too, suffered disease, starvation, exposure and cold weather. Over half of them died. But their will to survive combined with their faith in the Lord, brought them through. Not common knowledge about Valley Forge are the books given to the men to read in their free time. Those books encouraged the men to endure through faith. They were: “The Duty of Standing Fast in Our Spiritual and Temporal Liberties,” a sermon preached in Christ Church, 1775; “The Rights of British Colonies Asserted and Proved,” 1776; and “A Sermon on the Present Situation of American Affairs,” preached in Christ Church 1775. There is often a test of the will and Spirit to achieve something important. It’s what inspires one another to work together to live. This is a lesson I’ve learned in life and it is confirmed by many instances of history. We can also see through our travels examples of the faith and will that it took to build this great nation and shape the people in it. Leaving Valley Forge for our next stop in Connecticut, we experienced one of the great people in our nation. We were headed toward an overpass that would have clipped the top off of our camper and a man pulled along-side us motioning for us to pull over. He told us what was going to happen, then offered to take us around the overpass and put us on the path to our next stop. We didn’t get his name, but from the goodness of his heart, he saved us from ruin. Hebrews 13:2 says, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Strangers or angels, our faith is our bond and inspiration. We headed on to Plymouth, MA., to visit the site of my first direct ancestors’ who came to America on the Mayflower—William Bradford, my 10th great grandfather on my father’s side and Richard Warren, my 11th great grandfather on my mother’s side. Daily Devotion: What We Fear the Most - by Greg Laurie – www.harvest.org I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. —John 16:33 https://harvest.org/resources/devotion/what-we-fear-the-most/ - Listen We love sunshine, blue skies, and green pastures. But we cringe when we arrive at a valley that seems to loom endlessly before us. When we come to those times in our lives when there are going to be difficulties, when there are going to be trials, when there are going to be hardships, we might say, “Hold on now. I didn’t sign up for this. I don’t want hardships. I don’t want conflicts.” And sadly, when difficulty, tribulation, or persecution comes, some Christians will throw in the towel and go back to their old lives. In the parable of the sower, Jesus described these people as being like seed scattered on rock-infested ground. The roots went down partially but then hit the rock. The plants shot up, but they had no deep roots to sustain themselves. And when the sun came out, they quickly withered. Jesus said, “The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word” (Matthew 13:20–21 NLT). Among the real tests of conversion are hardships, trials, temptations, persecution, and, yes, valleys. Valleys, storms, and trials are all part and parcel of the Christian life. Jesus said, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NLT). On one occasion, Jesus sent the disciples across the Sea of Galilee. Meanwhile, He was on a mountain praying. But as they journeyed across the huge freshwater lake, a horrendous storm whipped up. It was so bad that the waves could have overtaken and drowned them. But then they saw Jesus walking to them on the water. Commenting on this story, the great Bible teacher, G. Campbell Morgan, said, “He is coming. It is too dark for you to see Him yet, but He is coming. He cannot leave you alone to perish. . . . The very waves that threaten to buffet and break you to pieces are the pavement for His blessed feet.” Sometimes, the very things we fear the most are the tools God uses in our lives to bring us closer to Himself. Often, the valleys in life are not of our own making. Rather, God allows them to bring changes in our lives. God certainly wasn’t punishing the apostle Paul for any sin when He allowed Paul’s hardship. Yet Paul suffered what he described as a “thorn in [his] flesh.” It was a result of his seeing the glory of God. Thus, the Lord allowed this difficulty in his life to keep him humble. There was also Joseph, who through no fault of his own went through tremendous hardships in his life. Job suffered not because of his sinfulness but because of his righteousness. Sometimes we experience hardships not because we have brought them on ourselves but because God is doing a work in our lives.
