Pete's note: Congratulations to Randy on completing his 200th article! That is a notable feat so thank you for your dedication and edification! As with most prophecies and significant events in the Bible regarding Israel, Jerusalem, and the Jews, the timing of such is usually a point of contention or debate. Some examples are the year of Jesus’ birth, the year of Jesus’s death, the year of the start of Daniel’s seventy-week prophecy, and the year of the end of Daniel’s sixty-ninth week. The Gog-Magog War prophecy in Ezekiel 38-39, a significant and often debated topic, is no exception. This article will explore the various theories surrounding its timing. Prophecy expert Mark Hitchcock notes: “By far, the most controversial issue is the setting or timing of the invasion. The specific time of the invasion in Ezekiel 38 is difficult to determine.” {1} Dr. Thomas Ice, another prophecy expert, agrees. ”There is no doubt that this is the greatest problem to overcome in our understanding of this passage. In fact, the various positions are labeled according to one’s view concerning when these events will be fulfilled. Among those who believe that the Gog-led invasion is historical, some believe that it has already occurred. For example, (partial) preterist Gary DeMar says, “The battle in Ezekiel 38 and 39 is clearly an ancient one.” When does he believe that this battle took place? Amazingly, DeMar and only a handful of commentators insist that Ezekiel 39-39 was fulfilled by the events described in Esther 9, occurring in about 473 BC in the days of Queen Esther of Persia. The other views that take this invasion as a historical event place its occurrence in a time future to our day.” {2} This is very flawed reasoning. If you go to Esther 9, you can clearly determine that this non-military conflict differs from the Gog-Magog War in about every conceivable way. In the book of Esther, Israel’s enemies do not even invade the land of Israel, and the Jews defend themselves to defeat the Persian agitators without supernatural assistance. Partial Preterist David Lowman agrees with DeMar on this issue. They both believe the battles of Ezekiel 38-39 and Revelation 20 are not the same event. Another partial preterist, Kenneth Gentry, believes that Christ’s coming from heaven to wage war in Revelation 19 represents His judgment coming on Israel when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD. He believes it reflects the theme of the book found in Revelation 1:7, where He comes against the ones who pierced Him (the Jews). Thus, Revelation 20“presents the consequence of Christ’s judgment of Israel, Christianity’s first major enemy: the binding of Satan, the vindication of the martyrs, and the spiritual rule of believers with Christ in the present age.” {3} Kenneth Gentry’s position is that Ezekiel 38-39 was likely fulfilled in the second century BC, and John uses its imagery to foreshadow the events of Revelation 19:11-21 and Revelation 20:8-10. For this position, the battles of Ezekiel 38-39 and Revelation 20 are not one and the same (nor are the battles of Rev. 19 and Rev. 20). Most full preterists believe that Ezekiel’s prophecy was fulfilled in the 2nd century B.C. at the defeat of the Greek/Syrian invaders of Palestine by Judas Maccabeus. At least this view has the invaders actually ascending upon the land of Israel, as noted in Ezekiel’s prophecy. However, very few similarities exist between this invasion and the one prophesied in Ezekiel. Most preterists have to rely heavily on allegorical interpretation of scripture for a past fulfillment of the Gog-Magog War. There are three prevalent theories for dispensational premillennialists on the timing of the Gog-Magog war found in Ezekiel 38-39: 1) Before the Tribulation, 2) During the Tribulation, and 3) At the end of the Tribulation. It is the same war as the Armageddon campaign. The last theory, and least likely in my opinion, is that the Gog-Magog war is the same as the Armageddon campaign and will conclude at the end of the Tribulation when Christ returns to the Earth. In this scenario, Russia and its allies are merely part of a worldwide coalition that comes against Israel at the end of days. However, there are several problems with this view. According to Dr. Arnold G. Fruchtenbaum and other Bible scholars, many objections exist to this timing of the Gog-Magog war. According to Fruchtenbaum, there are at least seven problems with this view. “First, in Ezekiel, definite allies are mentioned, and they are limited in number, while other nations stand in opposition. In the campaign of Armageddon, all nations are allied together against Jerusalem without exception.” This author’s note: At Armageddon, the Lord "will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle" (Zechariah 14:2). The Gog Magog War is more of a regional war, while the campaign of Armageddon involves all the nations of the world (that are still in existence at this time). “Second, the Ezekiel invasion comes from the north, but the Armageddon invasion comes from the whole earth.” This author’s note: The Armageddon campaign will begin with the sixth Bowl Judgment, as recorded in Revelation 16:12-16. The Euphrates River will be dried up, making it easy for the kings of the east (and all their armies) to cross over with their forces to gather in the Valley of Megiddo (which is called in Hebrew Har-Magedon – the mountain of Megiddo) to destroy the Jews once and for all. This will only be a gathering place, for the major battles will be fought in Jerusalem and around Bozrah/Petra. “Third, the purpose of the Russian confederacy invasion is to take spoil or plunder; the purpose of the Armageddon campaign is to destroy all the Jews. Fourth, in the Ezekiel invasion, there is a protest against the invasion; in the Armageddon invasion, there is no protest because all the nations are involved. Fifth, the Armageddon invasion is destroyed by the personal second coming of Jesus the Messiah.” This author’s note: Let me reiterate the fifth point of Mr. Fruchtenbaum. Gog and allies will meet their demise by natural and supernatural means: a great earthquake, fighting amongst themselves, pestilence and bloodshed, flooding rain and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. The Armageddon forces will meet their demise by supernatural means as well, but it will be on a personal level as Jesus Christ, the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS, defeats them in person with no outside help. “And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he has on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords” (Revelation 19:15-16). “For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth” (Isaiah 63:4-6). “Sixth, the Ezekiel invasion is destroyed on the mountains of Israel; the Armageddon invasion is destroyed in the area between Jerusalem and Petra. Seventh, the Russian invasion takes place while Israel is living securely in the Land; the Armageddon campaign takes place while Israel is in flight and hiding.” {4} Dr. Thomas Ice observes, ”If these two campaigns are one and the same, then there is not any time for Israel to bury the dead (7 months) or burn the instruments of war (7 years), according to Ezekiel 39:9,12. Scripture implies that seventy-five days after Christ’s return, the thousand-year kingdom will commence and that it will begin a cleansing of the judgment from the tribulation (Isaiah 2:1-4; 65:17-25; Daniel 12:11-12). Ron Rhodes observes another difference between the two battles as follows: At Armageddon, the Beast is the head of the invasion campaign (Revelation 19:19), whereas Gog is the head of the invading force in Ezekiel’s prophecy (Ezekiel 38:7). The more one contemplates the differences between the two events the more one realizes that they cannot be the same. The details of the two events just do not match up.” {5} Ezekiel 38:8 identifies the general timing of the confederacy invasion. “After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have always been waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.” It is clear from this verse that the invasion will occur at the end of the ages (latter years) before Jesus’ second advent. This verse does not refer to the return to Judah after the Babylonian exile but rather the diaspora of the Jews after 70 and 135 AD. It refers to a time after the Jews returned (out of the nations) to their homeland and established the modern state of Israel in 1948. Due to the power of their armed forces, the Jews dwell safely in their land once again (relatively speaking). Due to the soon-coming Rapture and Daniel’s 70th week hot on its heels, I don’t see the Gog-Magog War occurring before the Rapture. I do believe it will happen before the Tribulation, however. Some who hold this view include Chuck Smith, Chuck Missler, Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Randall Price, Tim LaHaye, and Joel Rosenberg. What are some reasons that support this view? First, Fruchtenbaum describes the pretribulation view as follows: the Russian invasion will occur before the Tribulation begins. This view arrives at certain conclusions from the text of Ezekiel 38:1–39:16. First, Israel is established before the Tribulation and is dwelling securely. Second, the Russian confederacy invades Israel during this time of security before the Tribulation. Third, the confederacy is destroyed in Israel before the Tribulation. Perhaps the strongest argument for this view relates to the fact that if this event is pretribulation, then there would be time for the seven months to bury the dead (Ezek. 39:12) and the seven years to burn the implements of war (Ezek. 39:9). I use to believe that due to the Antichrist’s persecution of the Jews at the mid-point of Daniel’s 70th week (when he commits the abomination of desolation in the newly built third temple in Jerusalem), as per Matthew 24:15-21, that the Jews wouldn’t be able to burn the weapons of war for seven years because they would be on the run until they reached the mountain fortress of Petra, Jordan for the remainder of the last 3.5 years of the Tribulation. I have since changed my opinion on this and believe it could be possible to burn the weapons for seven years (and before the Millennium Kingdom begins). Suppose the Jews take Jesus’ advice (In Matthew 24). In that case, they won’t take anything with them once they witness the abomination of desolation by the A.C., including clothes or any household items, much less those of war that could be used for burning to keep warm. The only way any weapons/fuel could be gathered to Petra would be if they had foreseen this moment (by reading their Bible ?) and carried their cache there beforehand. Also, I believe there will still be people in the land of Israel and Jerusalem during the Great Tribulation (last 3.5 years) who will be burning these spoils of war. We know there will be Jews in Jerusalem during the Armageddon campaign wars, according to Zechariah 14:2 and other O.T. scripture. I agree with Mr. Fruchtenbaum that there will be no burying of the dead or burning of weapons during the Millennial reign of Jesus Christ on the earth. The Gog-Magog war must start before Daniel’s 70th Week and is not a part of the Armageddon war (IMO). I believe that the next biblical event to occur is the rapture of the Church. This will significantly speed up the end-time birth pains mentioned in Matthew 24, including war. After the Rapture (and maybe even before), the United States of America will no longer be a dominant world power. As I wrote about in Now What's Next? (rev310.net), I believe the prophecy of Isaiah 17 regarding the destruction of Damascus by Israel will be one of the early birth pains, as well as the prophecy of Jeremiah 49:35-37 regarding disastrous ruin to Elam (part of modern-day Iran). Russia will continue exerting its military might (as it is doing now) in reclaiming lost territory that was part of the old Soviet Union until God puts hooks in the jaws of Gog and turns him and his host around towards Israel. “I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army” (Ezekiel 38:4). No country, including America, will come to the aid of Israel. I believe this war will begin relatively soon, as Russia needs this ‘spoil’ (gas, minerals, cattle) to finance its wars, and the Muslim nations allied with Russia will not be able to contain their demonic hatred of the Jews much longer without making good on their promise to annihilate them. Of course, they are in for a rude awakening. “For we know Him who said, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry” (Hebrews 10:30-31,37). Many scholars, including Grant R. Jeffrey, believe the Gog/Magog war will start on Kislev 24 of the Jewish calendar. Haggai describes this war similarly to Ezekiel's Gog/Magog war, with a massive earthquake and the various peoples/nations fighting amongst themselves. Haggai even gives the date, the 24th day of the ninth month (Kislev). Compare Haggai 2:18-22 with Ezekiel 38:18-22 (they even have the same numbered verses – 18-22). “Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid – consider it: Is the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will bless you. And again the word of the Lord came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying: I will shake heaven and earth. I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overthrow the chariots and those who ride in them; the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother” (Haggai 2:18-22). Regarding where this invasion originates from, God tells Ezekiel to prophesy and say to Gog, “Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you” (Ezekiel 38:15). However, the American Bible Revised Edition Version says, “leaving your base in the recesses of Zaphon, you and many nations with you.” Also, in chapter 39, the word/name Zaphon is substituted for the far north. “I will turn you around, even though I urged you on and brought you up from the recesses of Zaphon and let you attack the mountains of Israel.” The word Zaphon is used ten times in the Old Testament by the American Bible Revised Edition Version. Zaphon is a mountain on the Syrian-Turkish border near what used to be the port city of Ugarit. It is now called Mount Aqraa or Jabal al-Aqraa, and Mount Cassius to the Greeks. The Canaanites in the region believed it was where the storm god Baal-Hadad lived. Zaphon became a metonym and the word for the direction of ‘north’ in Hebrew. The port city of Ugarit was initially located near (what is now) Latakia, Syria. Latakia has been the target of many Israeli air raids in recent years. Russia deploys large troops to this vital port city on the Mediterranean Sea. It would undoubtedly enrage Russia if Israel were to kill Russian soldiers through an airstrike in Latakia, Syria. “Currently, Damascus and Homs are being protected by Hezbollah and other Shiite militias. Holding this territory is essential for the regime, Hezbollah, and their Iranian backers. Meanwhile, Latakia represents less of a strategic interest for Iran than Russia, which wants to maintain a presence along the coast more than in Damascus or the Golan Heights. As for the influx of Russian troops, they are needed to protect the city, given the present weakness of Syrian forces. Russia is also fortifying its position along the southern Turkish border, with the ultimate goal of preventing Sunni Syrian forces from gaining access to the sea.” {6} Latakia, Syria, could be the location from where Russia will amass its coalition and “hook up” with Turkish, Iranian, and other nations’ military forces. Gog will then lead them to their ill-fated journey south toward Israel to start the Gog-Magog war. They will have to skirt around the destroyed city of Damascus, probably to the west, possibly entering Lebanon and then entering Israel by way of the Judean mountains. Due to the rugged terrain, cavalry forces will be deployed in large numbers. In the mountains of Israel, they will meet their fate. “You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured” (Ezekiel 39:4). This invasion to take booty or spoil will not work out precisely as Gog envisions, as it will go horribly awry. On that day of destiny, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will fight for the children of Israel when no other nation will. Of course, no one else is needed when God fights for you. “And it will come to pass at the same time when Gog comes against the land of Israel, says the Lord God, that My fury will show in My face. For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: Surely in that day, there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel, so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. “I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains, says the Lord God. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord” (Ezekiel 38:18-23). The defeat of the military might of Russia, Turkey, Iran, Ethiopia, Libya, and the other nations of Ezekiel 38-39 will leave a power vacuum amongst the world’s nations. The Ten Kings’ Kingdom of Daniel 7:24 and Revelation 17:12 will immediately fill this power vacuum and fill the void, becoming the dominant world power. Even China will become a part of this one-world order. The anti-Christ will emerge soon after this and will confirm a covenant with Israel and others, which will begin the seven-year Tribulation, aka Daniel’s 70th Week. I believe all of these end-time events could occur within a few years. God’s prophecies always come true. It’s only a matter of when and not if. “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” (Habakkuk 2:3). Because of the supernatural means of destruction in the Gog-Magog war, it will be evident to the Jews that God intervened for Israel to save them. “I will set My glory among the nations; all the nations shall see My judgment which I have executed, and My hand which I have laid on them. So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day forward” (Ezekiel 39:21). They will, at this point, attempt to renew their old covenant (the Law) with God and make preparations to rebuild their third temple in Jerusalem. They will not, however, at this time, accept Jesus as their Messiah. I believe Ezekiel 39:25-29 is a continuation of Ezekiel 37:22-28 and is referring to the Millennial Kingdom of God after Jesus Christ returns to the earth when He will gather all 12 tribes of the children of Israel back to the Promised Land after Jacob’s Trouble (Tribulation). Israel will then have fulfilled all the objectives of Daniel’s 70 Weeks/Sevens prophecy. This will only happen at the end of the Tribulation when Israel (remnant Jews) finally recognize Jesus as the Messiah and confess their national sin, fulfilling the prophecy of Hosea 5:15. “I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face: in their affliction, they will seek me early.” Amen. Chess pieces are in motion all over the planet, and global leaders continue to drag us in directions that we should not want to go. If everyone truly understood where current events were taking us, there would be massive protests in every major city right now. The comfortable lifestyles that so many of us take for granted are about to be shattered. The U.S. could soon find itself involved in several major wars simultaneously, and we are definitely not prepared for such a scenario. Most Americans could not even pick out Taiwan on a blank map of the world, but for the Chinese the island of Taiwan is of the utmost importance. On Thursday, a Chinese general told Jake Sullivan to his face that Taiwan is “the first red line that must not be crossed”… A top Chinese general on Thursday told White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan that the U.S. must stop its “collusion” with Taiwan, during a high-stakes meeting in Beijing. Gen. Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, told Sullivan that Taiwan “is at the very core of China’s core interests, the bedrock of the political foundation of China-US relations, and the first red line that must not be crossed,” according to a readout from the Chinese Ministry of National Defense. “The PLA will definitely take countermeasures against the provocations of the Taiwan independence forces,” the readout said Zhang had told Sullivan, using an acronym for China’s military, the People’s Liberation Army. “China urges the US side to stop military collusion with Taiwan, stop arming Taiwan, and stop spreading false narratives on Taiwan.” The Chinese are very angry. And they have been preparing to take military action against Taiwan for a very long time. When that finally happens, we will be at war with China, and everything will change. Meanwhile, the Russians continue to gobble up even more territory in eastern Ukraine… Russian troops continue to make significant advances toward Pokrovsk, the city in Donetsk that is a key logistics hub, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) whose map shows the latest state of play in the region. The Washington, D.C., think tank cited geolocated footage from Wednesday it said showed Russian advances into Memryk, a town around 18 miles southeast of Pokrovsk, which some military bloggers claimed Moscow had completely seized. Other geolocated footage showed advances by Russian forces in other areas southeast of Pokrovsk, near the city of Novohrodivka, which has been corroborated by Russian military bloggers. At this point, western leaders are so desperate to achieve “victory” that they are throwing everything except the kitchen sink at the Russians. In fact, the British have even sent robotic “war dogs” to Ukraine… The United Kingdom has provided Ukraine with robotic “war dogs” that have started assisting troops on the battlefield and terrifying Russian troops who see them, according to reports. “The robot dog demonstrated its capabilities in delivering a range of critical equipment, showcasing its potential as an invaluable asset to military units,” manufacturer Brit Alliance said of the units. “The robot dog exhibited exceptional mobility and agility, crucial for traversing complex and hostile environments,” the company added. “Whether navigating through debris, climbing over obstacles, or moving stealthily across open ground, the robot dog has proven itself capable of maintaining a high level of operational effectiveness.” Both sides are just going to keep escalating matters until a line is crossed that will never be able to be uncrossed. The Russians are preparing for that inevitability by constructing shiny new bomb shelters for their population… The Kremlin yesterday released a bizarre video glamorising its newly built bomb shelters, as Ukraine continued its incursion into Russian territory. Filmed in the popular Black Sea resort of Sochi, the clip features two young women smiling as they walk into a shelter – as if this is just another part of everyday life. Unfortunately for us, when bombs start falling on our soil we will be out of luck because we don’t have any bomb shelters. Interestingly, a YouGov poll that was conducted last year discovered that 66 percent of Americans are concerned that humanity could be wiped out by nuclear weapons… According to a 2023 YouGov poll of a thousand respondents, sixty-six per cent are worried that the human race will be wiped out by nuclear weapons; roughly the same number worry that we will be killed off by a world war; fifty-three per cent think the next pandemic could do us in; fifty-two per cent bet on climate change; forty-six per cent on A.I.; forty-two per cent on an act of God; thirty-seven per cent on an asteroid; thirty-one per cent global inability to have children; twenty-five per cent an alien invasion. We should be very thankful that nuclear weapons have not been used in combat since the end of World War II. Unfortunately, it won’t be too long before that streak ends. The war that I am watching more closely than any other right now is the current conflict in the Middle East. This week, Israel launched the largest military operation in the West Bank that we have seen “in at least two decades”… Thursday marks day two of the Israeli military and security forces’ large-scale raid into the West Bank, the biggest seen in at least two decades. Fierce fighting overnight focused on a mosque in the city of Tulkarem, resulting in five Palestinian gunmen being killed. The first day of the major assault involving hundreds of IDF troops and Shin Bet security personnel left at least nine Palestinians dead. Fighter jets, drones, and bulldozers have been seen focusing counter-terror efforts in the towns of Jenin, Tulkarem and Tubas – each which also contains sprawling refugee camps. Amid international criticism over the apparent expansion of the Gaza war into the PA-administered West Bank, Israeli leadership says it has intelligence showing that if it didn’t act, another Oct.7-style terror attack might have been launched from operatives in the West Bank. Needless to say, this has caused tensions in the region to soar even higher. At one point, Israeli troops actually fired “shoulder-launched missiles” at a mosque in Tulkarem… In Tulkarem, troops of Border Police’s elite Yamam counterterrorism unit were dispatched to a mosque in the city following intelligence provided by the Shin Bet of a group of gunmen holed up there. The Yamam officers carried out a tactic known as “pressure cooker” that involves escalating the volume of fire directed at a building to force suspects to come out. The Israeli forces had fired shoulder-launched missiles at the mosque as part of the tactic, and two gunmen were killed. As you can imagine, many in the Islamic world are working themselves up into a frenzy over this. I have never seen more anger and more frustration in the region, and it is only a matter of time before it fully explodes. In fact, even the mainstream media is now admitting that an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah “is inevitable”… Furthermore, after the complete failure of UNSCR 1701 that concluded the Second Lebanon War and that was supposed to make sure Hezbollah would not rearm in south Lebanon — it did so anyway — many Israelis lost all trust in the efficacy of diplomacy to stop Hezbollah. The brutal truth is that war between Israel and Hezbollah is inevitable, even if it won’t happen this week or next week, or even in the next few months. Hezbollah has proven to Israelis and Israeli decision-makers that it is a considerable threat that cannot be dealt with only by trying to stop its rearmament. I think that it is quite likely that we could see all-out war in the Middle East by the end of this calendar year. Sadly, most people have absolutely no idea what that is going to look like. It is going to be more horrible than most people would dare to imagine. Of course the same thing could be said about the other cataclysmic conflicts that are coming too. I have been writing about these approaching conflicts for many years, and now we are just about there. If people really understood the death and destruction that these wars will cause, there would be enormous anti-war movements all over the planet. The IDF rescued the first living hostage from Hamas’s underground tunnels in Gaza. And wouldn’t you know it? He was an Arab Muslim. Qaid Farhan Alkadi was at his job in a packing house in Kibbutz Magen on October 7 when he was taken by Hamas terrorists. For more than ten months he was held as a hostage, malnourished and mistreated. But then some IDF and Shin Bet forces operating in the tunnels discovered him and brought him to safety. All of Israel is now celebrating! Of course, Hamas quickly reported that they had released him, but that is not what the IDF or what Alkadi himself is saying. The Bedouin emphatically reported on the harsh treatment that the hostages receive, and he pleaded with the Israeli government to do whatever it takes to get them out. It didn’t take long for him to have the opportunity to go to the top of Israel’s government. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself called Alkadi to celebrate, saying, “Our brother has come home! Our brother has returned!” This is what the antisemites who march against Israel and criticize the war don’t get. Israel is not making this a racial war. They are not fighting the Arabs or, more specifically, the Palestinians. Israel is fighting against the terrorist group Hamas. Throughout the war, they have gone above and beyond to warn civilians of the actions they were going to have to take to root out the terrorist cancer. No other nation has ever done so much to protect the innocent. Have civilians been killed and wounded? Sadly, yes. But that is because Hamas has persisted in using the Palestinian population as human shields, whether it is in neighborhoods, schools, or hospitals. In the south, Israel fights Hamas. In the north, Israel fights Hezbollah. In the West Bank, Israel fights both terrorist organizations, along with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and other terrorist groups. In contrast, the terrorists in all those areas fight the Jews. They are the ones who make this racial. The protesters around the world also make this racial. We are not in a fight against the Arabs. But these terrorists and antisemites are in a fight against the Jewish people. That is the difference between them and us. Unfortunately for them, God has made it clear that targeting Israel is not a healthy choice. Even when He allowed other nations to bring harm against the Jews, it was only for a season and for a purpose. When the time was past, His arms were open to His repentant people, but His hand was against those nations who followed their sinful inclinations to persecute Israel. Both the Jewish people and the church can take great comfort in knowing that God never fully turns His back on those He calls His own. Psalm 121:1-4 KJV – “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” Operation Summer Camps While the media has focused on the war in Gaza and the battles in the north, there is a third front that is less talked about. Terrorist attacks by Arabs coming from the West Bank have increased exponentially since October 7 – most (but not all) attributed to Hamas, the PIJ, or the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade (AAMB). Yesterday, the IDF moved to tamp down that activity by implementing Operation Summer Camps. This is the largest operation in Judea and Samaria in 20 years and is aimed at the Iranian effort to arm and train terrorists in the West Bank. Already, as of Wednesday morning, ten terrorists were killed, and more are being taken out each day. As always, the IDF is taking precautions to protect civilians. Before the action began, residents of the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarm were warned to evacuate so that they could avoid the coming action. We cannot allow the terrorists to perpetrate another October 7 massacre from the West Bank. Even after we move into Lebanon, we must make sure that Judea, Samaria, and the northern Jordan Valley remain an extremely high priority. Hezbollah Strikes Back at Israel Early Sunday, Hezbollah launched its promised strike across the southern border, and the Israelis paid dearly. At least the Israeli chickens did. In a major barrage, 230 rockets and 20 drones were fired toward Israel – the rockets to the north and the drones toward the center. Unfortunately for Hezbollah, the flying explosives missed the military facilities they were aimed at. Instead, they blew the heck out of a chicken coop. We’re still waiting for a condemnatory response from PETA. The fact that only poultry was damaged by their paltry attempt didn’t stop Hezbollah from taking a victory lap. In a speech following the attack, Hassan Nasrallah, the head of the terrorist group, celebrated by alleging that they fired twenty more rockets than they had originally intended. That is hard to believe. Hezbollah planned their attack to begin at 5:00 am. Learning of this fact, the IDF, at 4:30 am, sent 100 Israeli fighter jets peremptorily across the northern border into Lebanon, hitting 200 launching sites before they had a chance to send their missiles. If not for this action, it was very likely that more than just chickens would have died. Following the attack by Hezbollah, Israel pounded the terrorist group’s sites in a major airstrike. These strikes have continued through the week, mostly focusing on the Baalbek region. The Battle in Gaza The fight continues in Gaza. The enemy is deeply entrenched and there are miles and miles of tunnels. As Israel simultaneously fights above ground and below ground, the soldiers must be incredibly careful. First, there are thousands of vulnerable citizens being used as human shields. But secondly, there are still 103 hostages being held, although 33 of them have been confirmed dead. According to a report by the Jewish Chronicle, Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip and the terrorist organization’s newly minted chairman of the Political Bureau, Yahya Sinwar, surrounds himself with 22 handcuffed hostages. Apparently, Israel has had several chances to eliminate him, but they held back due to the hostage risk. U.S. Warns of Iranian Threat Against Israel We’ve all been wondering when Iran’s retaliation will come against Israel for the targeted killing of chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The ayatollahs have been holding it over the Jewish state’s head for weeks. Now, John Kirby, national security spokesman for the White House, has said that it could come soon, and warned Iran to reconsider carrying their plan out. “Our messaging to Iran is consistent, has been and will stay consistent,” he said. “One, don’t do it. There’s no reason to escalate this. There’s no reason to potentially start some sort of all-out regional war. And number two, we are going to be prepared to defend Israel if it comes to that.” Ukraine vs. Russia Ukraine continues its push into Russia, using drones to reach deep into the enemy nation. Yesterday, they attacked the Ryazan hydroelectric plant approximately 200 km from Moscow. Russia is fighting back in a huge way. On Monday, the Russians launched 127 missiles and 109 attack drones aimed at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. At least four people were killed, and in Kyiv there were seven or more explosions reported. One missile hit the road over the Kyiv hydroelectric plant. If that plant took major damage, it could mean severe flooding in and around Kyiv. France Arrests Telegram’s Pavel Durov In an action that illustrates the continued deterioration of free speech in Europe, Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov was arrested Saturday by French police in Paris. The charges against him are that his social media platform is being used for illicit activity including drug trafficking and child porn. The move by French authorities set off a firestorm of protest by free speech advocates, while opponents of free speech thought “Phew, I’m glad it was the French who did it.” On Wednesday, he was released from his temporary hold, but that doesn’t mean that all his problems are over. He was immediately sent for questioning, while it is being decided whether to put him under indictment. If he is formally charged, he can end up going right back into detention. It will be interesting to see if Russia, St. Kitts and Nevis, or the United Arab Emirates, all of whose citizenships he holds along with his French citizenship, steps up to put pressure for his release. Where’s the Hope? - Nathele Graham - [email protected] “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.” Psalm 31:24. The news is bad. Everything is doom and gloom and depression hangs heavy over the population. The political climate in the United States is ugly. And I get very discouraged when I listen to all the political babbling. A crazy young man who may or may not have been acting alone tried to assassinate Mr. Trump. What do many of the loony liberals say? “I’m sorry he missed”. That’s just cold-hearted. They take a miracle of God and turn it into something evil. In speaking of the end of days, Jesus said “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” Matthew 24:12. This makes me concerned for the state of America. On the other hand, I see so many video clips asking people why they will vote for the Democrat’s nominee, and their reasoning is absurd. “Because she’s a woman”. Really? She’s not running for president of the PTA, but running for leadership of the United States of America. I’m a woman, but that doesn’t qualify me to be president. Where’s the hope for America if this is the basis of casting votes? What will she do when facing an important meeting with world leaders? I also have doubts that she even knows where our Southern Border is located, nor does she think there’s trouble there. It leaves me scratching my head. The Bible is always the best place to look for answers and encouragement. Names and places change, but the same failures of humanity are always there, as well as the same love of God. Job was a man who had many afflictions. Satan was waging war against this man who loved the Lord. All of Job’s children died, he faced horrific health issues, he lost his fortune, and his wife was little or no support in his trials. Nothing seemed worth living for, and he desired for God to take his life. He did have some so-called friends who would have been more help if they had stayed home; their advice was not good at all. Job was very depressed. “Then should I yet have comfort; yea, I would harden myself in sorrow: let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One. What is my strength, that I should hope? And what is mine end, that I should prolong my life?” Job 6:10-11. The truth that Job would eventually come to realize is that God was his strength, his comfort, and his hope. “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and although after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Job 19:25-26. Job’s hope was found in the Redeemer, and we know His name: Jesus Christ. America, Jesus Christ is our only hope. Christians cannot give up and stop praying. The truth is, when studying prophecy, it seems as if America is missing. Americans tend to think that the world will stop turning without this nation to keep it going. America was once a great nation, but has turned into a culture that esteems pagan lust and evil. We have fallen so far from God’s grace that I’m amazed we are still a nation. The only hope for any nation, or any individual person, is Jesus Christ. No national leader, whether conservative or liberal, will ever make a nation great. The greatest human king that ever ruled a nation was King David. What made him great? He was a man after God’s own heart. The Apostle Paul gave a short history of Israel, and told how the people desired a king, and God gave them what they deserved: Saul. Saul was a bit crazy. It was David whom God desired for their king, but the people demanded a king immediately and David wasn’t ready. After years of poor leadership and crazy actions, Saul committed suicide during a battle. David was ready to be king and led Israel to greatness. “And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will.” Acts 13:22. David wasn’t a perfect man, and he committed great sin. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed. When Nathan the prophet confronted him with his sin, David went to God and humbly repented and asked for mercy. “For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightiest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.” Psalm 51:3-4. A truly repentant man or woman will be forgiven by God. We learn from the account of Jonah being sent to the city of Nineveh to preach repentance, that that evil and wicked city repented from the king to the least of the populace. Their judgment was delayed. Sadly, Nineveh returned to their sin and God sent judgment and they were destroyed. It seems as if it's time for Americans to repent and turn from the sins that are destroying this nation. Abortion and homosexuality are two of the worst things that show our rebellion to God. America is ripe for judgment. Even our churches are full of sin and false teaching. How can we ever find hope in this fallen world? “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14. We can’t expect God to continue to turn a blind eye to the sin in this nation. No nation can survive if God isn’t honored. The only nation I can think of that has endured through many attempts to destroy it, is Israel. History shows that they haven’t always honored God, and at those times, they have been taken captive and their God-given land was defiled. Prophecy was fulfilled in 1948 when the nation of Israel was re-established. “And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God. “Amos 9:14-15. Prophecy gives me hope. No matter how evil the world seems, God is still God. He has foreseen all things and told us in advance so we can be aware of the times in which we live. Israel has returned to the land and will not be removed. The attacks on Israel which we are witnessing today are leading up to a very evil time known as the Great Tribulation. We see the various nations named in prophecy aligning for battle and the rise of the Man of Sin (the Anti-Christ). We also see the coming world monetary system…be wary of the World Economic Forum. The technology is being put in place to enable the Mark of the Beast to be implanted in everyone. God foretold all of this in prophecy. The troubles which are coming are caused by people turning away from God and embracing Satan’s lies. All the people of the world will look to Satan for their hope, but there is no hope in evil. We can only find hope in God. “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:13. God can’t fill you with joy and peace if you don’t turn to Him. That means repent and turn from sin. Without God, there is no hope. There’s a teaching in some churches today that all you have to do is believe in Jesus and you will find His grace with no need to repent and turn from sin. That teaching forgets the fact that repenting means changing your mind. That teaching also ignores many verses that tell of sins that will keep a person from Heaven. “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. We have all sinned, and until we are safe at Home with Jesus we will continue to sin, but when we place our hope in Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven. He is our only Hope. Is it acceptable, then, to profess Christ and hold tightly to sin? No. Jesus told the woman taken in adultery “…Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.” John 8:11b. God knows your heart and if you are struggling with certain sins, He will help you overcome them, but don’t embrace sin as your right. In Christ we have hope. We cannot find hope in any human. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Romans 3:10. There is no hope in a human being, but there is hope only in Jesus Christ. God establishes nations and raises up men to rule. As Christians, we need to pray for whomever is in leadership, but we also must pray for guidance for whom to vote. It may be that God will allow an evil ruler, just as He did with King Saul ruling over Israel. The people of Israel got what they deserved, but when David became king, Israel flourished. We are living in some very troublesome times. If you don’t study prophecy, you cannot understand what’s happening. You will not understand that Christians have a hope that nobody else on this earth has. That is the hope of the Rapture. Some will try to say the rapture is an erroneous belief started in the 1800’s, but that’s wrong. Enoch was the first example of God removing His people from earth prior to His judgment. Today, judgment is coming fast. Only Christians have the hope of escaping the very evil and wicked times coming quickly upon all the earth. “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:13-14. Now, that’s hope. Jesus Christ is our blessed hope. Are you zealous to do good works? If not, why? Time is short and there are many, many people who haven’t heard the Good News of salvation. We need to share our hope with the fallen world around us. We need to make decisions based upon Scripture. Let the Holy Spirit lead you in all things. Share your hope with everybody around you. One of the challenges with a motorhome is driving around after you have set up camp. You most likely want to go hiking or to a restaurant or sightseeing. Then it comes down to unhooking everything and breaking camp. There is then the decision whether you want to leave your electric hookup, chairs and table at the campsite when you leave or repack everything. Once you get back out on the road, you may have trouble finding adequate parking. Ever try to parallel park a 25-ft motorhome in a small town? Actually, I’ve done it many times and it’s quite challenging, especially when the streets are narrow and the traffic is backing up behind you. All this brings us to another question. What about a companion vehicle—something smaller that can be brought along and is easier to find parking? Many people do this. They tow a vehicle behind their RV. I’ve seen several who have a very expensive motorcycle rack on the back of their RV—electric remote that raises and lowers the bike into place. There are many options, but I was just not sold on the idea of towing our car or buying a motorcycle. Then one day we were camping near Plymouth, MA and our neighbor had an RV almost like ours—same length and chassis, different brand. He and his wife had a retro scooter. He said that he and his wife ride it to restaurants and hiking sites. Gets about 80 miles to the gallon. Looks cool and is not as powerful as a full-grown motorcycle. This may be our solution. After a winter of talking to Chris about it, I finally convinced her that this was a good idea. But having never ridden a motorcycle or a scooter—we were always into horses—I wanted to learn about them. We visited a dealership and asked a bunch of questions. Then when we were driving home, we saw another little place that had scooters. The guy showed us his fleet and drove one around the lot. I asked if I could take it for a spin and he reluctantly agreed. Well, I buzzed down the lot and went to turn around and the scooter got away from me and headed out the drive right for the busy street traffic. I was a split second away from getting T-boned when I remembered the hand brake and miraculously stopped at the edge of the street. Me thinks the owner’s life flashed before his eyes. He said that was the reason they never offer test drives. The Good Book says that the Lord watches over the foolish. When I was helpless, He saved me! Yep! After a lot of research, We bought one of those cute retro Vespa clones from a dealer online. ‘Came shipped from the factory in a crate, 98% assembled. Well, like anything that 2% can be a killer. I told the guy I wasn’t mechanically inclined. He said he had confidence I could put on the handle bars, mirrors, headlight, battery, trunk, and front wheel. After several hours in the unforgiving heat and some skinned-up knuckles, I had everything done but the front wheel. My good neighbor Gordon, a motorcycle enthusiast, helped me assembled the wheel and we fired her up. Chris and I have matching helmets and we are going to give this a try. Our first test drive, and Chris was already a pro. But she’s making me practice a lot, though, where there is no traffic. And we live in a similar culture today. As followers of Jesus Christ, we’re constantly under pressure to compromise, cave in, shut up, and do what everyone else tells us we ought to be doing. We need to be people of integrity and principle because our culture will challenge our principles in every way. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were supposed to eat at the king’s table. But they declined. It almost seems minor. Why would they not do it? Probably because some of those foods were offered to false gods. In the minds of these four young Hebrew men, it would have been a compromise of God’s commandments. Daniel 1:8 tells us, “But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods” (NLT). He basically said to the chief of staff, “I’ll make you a deal. Let my friends and me just eat vegetables and water. Everyone else can eat all this other stuff, and we’ll see who fares better after a period of time.” And as time passed, sure enough, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Daniel did well. They were more robust than those who had been eating at the king’s table. These four made a stand in a seemingly small area. When they were tested later in bigger ones, their character, which had been formed well earlier in life, withstood the tests. A question people often ask me as a pastor is whether it’s okay for a Christian to do this or that. I am always a little concerned with questions like this. We might loosely paraphrase them this way: How much can I get away with and still technically be a Christian? Is it all right to listen to this? Is it all right to go do that? Is it okay to do this with my friends? Those are not always easy questions to answer. But when it comes to those so-called gray areas of life, here are four questions we should ask ourselves: Does this build me up spiritually? Does this bring me under its power? Do I have an uneasy conscience about this? Could this cause someone else to stumble? The apostle Paul wrote, “You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is good for you. You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is beneficial” (1 Corinthians 10:23 NLT). For Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Daniel, refusing to eat at the table of the king meant putting themselves in jeopardy. Yet the Bible tells us, “Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods” (Daniel 1:8 NLT). That is what we need today. More people of purpose.
