Today, Persia is known as Iran. On June 21 of this year, the President of the United States called off a pre-emptive strike on Iran in the final 10 minutes of preparation to do so. With all the players in place, president Trump called off the doomsday strike. I refer to this strike as doomsday because Russia would most probably become involved after an attack on their good friend and ally Iran. This action would set off World War Three. Iran has been a tormentor to both the United States and Israel, often calling for our annihilation and the annihilation of Israel. Most Christians know that Iran is comprised of the very same bloodline of the people who held the Israelites captive in the Old Testament. In any case, Iran recently downed a drone after damaging two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, more than likely - by the command of Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei. After years of threats of war with us and Israel, the downing of an American spy drone in skies over the Strait of Hormuz near the Persian Gulf, coupled with the bombing of the oil tankers, was thought to be an act of war by Iran. This act finally set off a chain of events whereby our military and John Bolton, among others, had finally had enough. All systems were go. Then, as President Trump tells it, "I stopped the action because it was disproportionate in the cost of lives to the cost of a drone." How right he was. Nevertheless, Iran will probably continue to taunt us, and most certainly, they will continue to enrich uranium for weapons of war. Most people don't know that Iran is a Muslim country with ties to other Islamic nations. Still though, because they are for the most part Shiite while only ten percent are Sunni Muslims, and Sunni Muslims comprise the majority in Saudi Arabia, the two countries are at odds with one another even though they both claim to worship Allah and his messenger Muhammad. Given the backdrop to the Islamic (Muslim) faith, we can only assume that this religion is faulty, and their only purpose for being is to promote the worship of Allah through intimidation, fear and deadly force. As a matter of fact, radical Muslim factions have built a network of training camps right here in the United States. (Yes, close to forty of them exist throughout the country.) The CIA and FBI know this, but because of restraints imposed upon them through misconstrued or antiquated laws, they can't do anything until these people actually commit a crime. Most of these training camps are private properties, bought and paid for by terrorist factions. Years ago, when I lived in Miami, I came to know a group who bought into a Dunkin Donuts store. I distinctly remember a small group of men in Middle Eastern garb standing in the small parking lot in front of the place, congratulating themselves on the acquisition of the franchise. It was an odd sight to see these people straight from the movie "Lawrence of Arabia." All that was needed were the camels; they drove Mercedes and Cadillacs. As time went on, I got to know them individually and even went for a ride with one of the young men to an Arab store in North Miami. He was a fun-loving guy, and (as is my habit) I attempted to share Christ with him. He acknowledged that Jesus was a good man and prophet, but I undoubtedly shared scripture with him, and I never knew if it took root - God's word never returns to Him void. After 9/11 I never saw them again. They seemed to know who was responsible for the downing of the twin towers, maybe not personally, but word may have been out in their community of friends and /or acquaintances. I don't know. Remember, the perpetrators were at one time in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami taking flying lessons. For those of you who are still living under a rock, a Russian war ship accompanied by a couple of others docked in Havana Harbor a few days ago. If they had nefarious intents in mind, they were in the ideal position to launch an EMP attack from this - the closest place to be able to launch a missile. Cuba is only 100 miles from the United States. This is the closest they will ever be able to get to us, that is, until after the EMP does it diabolical work. The point I'm trying to make is that you never know who lives, works and makes plans among us. But we can't live a paranoid life over something that may well be happening behind the scenes in our country even though it's only natural to be suspicious, through a process called self-preservation. You can live fearlessly - but you can't have that fearlessness unless you possess the Holy Spirit; and you can't have the Holy Spirit without receiving Jesus Christ. Although I witness and love all my "Friends" on the fishing pier in Naples, today, for the first time - as I was leaving, I turned back and - facing the crowd of about forty men, women and children (who were all now facing me for some unknown reason) - I said, "Jesus is coming back soon." People just froze in their tracks; no one made a move, and you could have heard a pin drop. I'm sure some of them will think about the crazy guy who warned them openly - during their fearful and sleepless nights. I would urge all believers to get their lives in order, prepare, and "Look up, for your redemption draws near." Syrian President Bashar Assad met on Tuesday in Damascus with an unnamed senior Iranian official to discuss ways to cope with Israeli airstrikes in the war-torn country, reported regime-affiliated Syrian newspaper Al-Watan. According to the report, the Iranian official also discussed with Assad the Trump administration's Mideast peace plan, and presented Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's plan to contend with it. The report comes against the backdrop of recent attacks on pro-Iranian forces in Syria, some which have been attributed to Israel though it denies involvement. In other cases, Israel has taken responsibility for attacks in Syria. In the past year, senior Israeli officials, chief among them Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have been increasingly candid about confronting Iranian entrenchment in Syria. The head of the IDF's Military Intelligence Directorate, Maj. Gen. Tamir Heyman, said in June: "We are in a situation where Iran still represents a central economic counterweight in the Middle East. Iranian technology and money feed the various players in the area. [Iran] is under American pressure. Iran is doing a great deal to manipulate and raise oil prices, but thus far this isn't really working for them. The price of a barrel of oil today is $61.8. Oil consumption is at an all-time low, and the Iranian economy is in danger of destabilization. Across the world oil prices are stagnant, and this has been the trend over the past few years." Regarding Iranian entrenchment in the Middle East, Heyman said the "multidimensional pressure applied by Israel," including its military activity, has stunted Tehran's efforts in Syria. However, Heyman said, Iran's expansionism in the Middle East still hasn't been halted completely. "Iran is currently searching for other places to establish a foothold, for example in the Iraqi sphere," he said. It has also become a place devoid of humor. I think Bible prophecy is the only explanation for why one of the basic human attributes is fading away. When it was announced last week that Mad Magazine was coming to an end, it took several hours for news outlets to confirm the news. After 67 years, hundreds of issues, a spinoff sketch-comedy series and countless imitators, MAD Magazine as it has been known since 1952 is coming to an end, according to the magazine's former editor, Allie Goertz. "There's been an outpour of kindness surrounding the rumor that @MADmagazine is ceasing publication, but MAD is not quite done," Goertz tweeted late Wednesday night. "After the next TWO great new issues are released, MAD will begin publishing bi-monthly issues with vintage pieces and new covers." With magazines dropping like flies, the demise of one more would not come as any great surprise. What is stunning about MAD Magazine's passing is that it's the last major humor publication to fold. Fellow humor publications like Cracked, National Lampoon, and the Weekly World News are long gone. Comedy and romantic comedy ticket sales have been on a steady slide for the past decade. Ten years ago, comedy was king at the movie theater, and now comedy is a money-losing topic. The last year that comedies made more than $2 billion domestically was 2011. In 2009, they earned $2.5 billion, with six making more than $100 million domestically. But by 2015, comedy grosses were down to $1.4 billion, with four titles making more than $100 million. And last year, comedies earned only $1 billion, with a single release crossing the $100 million-mark, Crazy Rich Asians. A key reason for the downturn in comedy is that the politically correct culture has made the job of a comedian very difficult. There is very little left to mock or make fun of these days. In recent years, two very high-profile comedians - Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock - have admitted they refused to perform at college campuses. Seinfeld said they would get mad and "don't know what they're talking about" because they're "so P.C." Even past comedies are having to be sanitized for the new modern standard. One of the many amusing aspects of the Toy Story movies is the jokes in the blooper reel at the end, which depicts favorite animated characters flubbing various scenes. The problem is that one of them, a blooper from 1999's Toy Story 2, isn't so funny anymore. A new release of the second movie in the storied franchise leaves out a scene in which a character named Stinky Pete the Prospector, voiced by Kelsey Grammer, suggestively tells twin Barbies that he could get them a part in Toy Story 3. He stops speaking when he realizes that he's being filmed. I didn't know Hollywood had any moral foundations left. To discover their morals over an animated toy getting fresh with two other ones is rather strange, but that is why people call the place Hollyweird. That explains why alleged serial rapist Harvey Weinstein is still walking free. Another reason why comedy is in failing health is its involvement in the leftist agenda. What passes today as comedy is nothing more than political propaganda. The long-running show "Saturday Night Live" is a prime example of this practice. SNL only does about 22 shows each year, and if you've seen one episode, you've seen them all. The show's writers think that they have a direct connection to the voters' decision process. In 2016 they focused on how Trump was going to lose against Hillary - Never happened. They spent two years joking about impeachment and jail time for Trump - strike two and strike three. SNL lost its cultural connection when it said there was nothing funny about President Barack Obama. One writer concluded that he was so perfect in his ways, there was nothing to make fun of. I don't know if there are any comedy shows in North Korea, but I'm sure they would feel the same way about their "Dear Leader." The Showtime cable network produced the "Loudest Voice American" drama miniseries about TV executive and media consultant Roger Ailes. It received poor ratings because it is about an unfunny and highly gross subject of a 300-pound guy sexually harassing employees. In 2016, comedian Will Ferrell had optioned a comedy where he would play a dementia-addled Ronald Reagan. It took strong protest from Reagan's children to get the project cancelled. The liberal media is going to keep using comedy to attack people on the right because they are under the control of demons who are fixed on evil. The jokes will become more vile, and ratings can keep dropping like a rock. Unless it is confronted with biblical truth, depravity doesn't have an off switch. Comedy will continue on in one way. The radical left has become unintentional comedians with their crazy view of the world. God and hopefully the Church will soon justly laugh from heaven at their foolish end-time antics. "But the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming" (Psalm 37:13). "He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision" (Psalm 2:4). Who Do You Say I Am? - Nathele Graham - [email protected] Who is Jesus? Some people say He was a prophet like any other prophet...a man who represented God. Some say He is just one of many religious leaders who started a religion. Some people even say He is an alien who came in peace to show us a better way. Jesus Christ is none of those things. He is, was, and always will be God. If someone who's searching for answers would come to you and ask about Jesus, could you give an informed answer? This is an important question and one that every Christian needs to know the answer to. The simple answer is that He is God. It's very important that you understand this truth. It's so important that Jesus once directly asked His disciples who people said He was. They had answers just like we hear today. Then He made it personal. "And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ." Mark 8:29. At that time, Peter had the right words, but didn't really understand. Do you really understand who Jesus is, or do you just repeat what someone told you. Through His earthly mother Mary, Jesus was fully human and made it possible for Him to qualify as our kinsman. Mary was a virgin when she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit, but she was just a human woman. Because He was conceived by Holy Spirit, He was fully God and His blood was untainted by Adam's sin. That means only His blood, which He shed on the cross, takes away our sin. He is our Creator and our Kinsman Redeemer. Some lost souls would have us believe that Jesus is the brother of Satan or that Jesus is really Michael the archangel. Those are lies. Don't be confused by nicely dressed people who knock on your door and try to confuse you. If you know the Biblical truth then you won't be deceived. It may be difficult for a new believer to understand the importance of Jesus being fully human and fully God, but it's the foundational truth to the Christian faith. Blood sacrifice was always a sin offering, but only pagans who worshipped demons sacrificed humans...quite often it was babies who were sacrificed. When God Almighty instituted His Law, only the blood of an animal was shed as a cover for sin, never human blood. That offering could never take the sin away, but it was only a temporary covering. "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins." Hebrews 10:4. Spilling blood is ugly, but so is sin. When Jesus was crucified, the torture was horrendous. He knew what He would face when He stepped into His creation to offer His own blood to atone for our sin. Only His blood could take sin away and lift the curse of death and He shed it willingly."By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." Hebrews 10:10. There's no other way for us to be forgiven of our sin except through faith in the once for all sacrifice of Jesus. He freely offered Himself, but that free gift has to be accepted in order for us to find salvation through Him. Many naysayers say that if Jesus was God He would have declared it. This is an issue of understanding. When He walked the shores of Galilee, He hadn't come to force people to believe, but to reveal the agape love of God. He wasn't a warrior who would destroy the enemy in the way the Jewish people had hoped. The enemy was destroyed at the cross. Jesus will return as the longed-for Warrior, but that event is still future. Jesus did, in fact, make it clear that He was God. When a Pharisee named Nicodemus came to Him asking questions, Jesus told him. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16. That's such a beloved verse but too often it's quoted without really understanding what Jesus said. He declared His divinity to Nicodemus, who became a believer. Later He declared the truth to another group of Pharisees when He told them that He existed before Abraham and that they needed to believe in His deity in order to find eternal life. Those Pharisees thought they knew and served God, but the dialog they had with Jesus revealed that they were truly ignorant of God's truth. Their ignorance would keep them from eternal life. "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins." John 8:24. Jesus asserted that He was God in the flesh and that He was the one who spoke to Moses from the burning bush. "And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Exodus 3:14. The Pharisees knew that Jesus had declared "I AM GOD" and quite an argument followed. "Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by." John 8:59. Stoning was the penalty for blasphemy and they understood Jesus had declared Himself to be God. John records many instances when Jesus declared that He was God in the flesh. "...I am the bread of life..." John 6:35. "... I am the light of the world..." John 8:12. "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved..." John 10:9. "I am the good shepherd..." John 10:11. "I am the resurrection, and the life..." John 11:25. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father , but by me." John 14:6. "...I am the vine, ye are the branches..." John 15:5. It's so important to study Scripture in order to understand what you profess. Just reading the words of Scripture will be a great comfort, but studying will help you know why you believe. The men who first followed Jesus struggled to understand who He was. They were Jewish men who weren't scholars. They were fishermen and tax collectors who had been told what to believe by the teachers of the day. They knew that the Messiah would come, but they had to learn a deeper truth. The Messiah was walking with them! Peter had said the words that Jesus was the Christ, but had been caught up in the emotion of the moment. He wasn't grounded upon that truth yet. That grounding would come later after Jesus' resurrection. The other disciples also struggled to understand the truth about Jesus. When the time drew near when Jesus would be crucified, He spoke earnestly with those men who followed Him. He told them about mansions that He was going to prepare for them and that He would return and receive them into eternity. "And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know." John 14:4. Thomas was confused and asked how to know the way. Jesus told Him that He was the only way to eternal life. Then Philip asked Jesus to show them the Father and that would satisfy them. "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father." John 14:9. It's not wrong to ask questions...that's how we get answers. Even those closest to Jesus had questions. They had Jesus right there with them, and asked Him directly what they wanted to know. Today when we have questions we have resources. First, pray. Ask Jesus to show you the answers then let the Holy Spirit lead you. Scripture holds the answers. There are many sound Bible teachers today who can help you find the truth, but beware of false teachers. When you are given an answer, be sure to compare it to Scripture. God's word never changes, so always use Scripture as truth. When John wrote his Gospel he began by making it clear that Jesus was God. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men." John 1:1-4. The Word, of course, is Jesus. John is very clear that Jesus existed before any of creation, and in fact created everything. He's also very clear that Jesus was God incarnate. "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." John 1:14. John must have been in awe when he finally realized that he had spent time walking and talking with God. Jesus chose John to clearly reveal His deity, and also to dictate the Book of Revelation to. Because John understood who Jesus was, Jesus was able to reveal more truth to him. Four times in the Revelation Jesus referred to Himself as the Alpha and Omega. "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 1:8. In English we might say "A and Z" instead of Alpha and Omega. We know that there is nothing before the "A" and nothing after the "Z". Jesus has always existed and will always exist. His death, burial, and resurrection gives us the only way that we can live eternally with Him. That's a gift from God Almighty, but He won't force it upon anybody. You have the choice. Accept His gift and live eternally with Him, or reject that gift and spend eternity in the lake of fire. If you choose to accept His sacrifice as the atonement for your sin, then you need to get to know Him. Talk to Him, ask questions, and seek answers. Repent of your sin and begin living for Him rather than for yourself. Who do you say that Jesus is? I say He is God and my Redeemer. I believe it and have trusted Him with my eternity. Have you? Daily Jot: A sad day in America - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com In a party-line vote, the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed a resolution that "strongly condemns President Donald Trump's racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color by saying that our fellow Americans who are immigrants, and those who may look to the President like immigrants, should "go back" to other countries, by referring to immigrants and asylum seekers as "invaders," and by saying that Members of Congress who are immigrants (or those of our colleagues who are wrongly assumed to be immigrants) do not belong in Congress or in the United States of America." This marks a sad day in America. In addition, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) retweeted an article by CNN contributor Wajahat Ali that declared in its headline "Trump is a Racist. If you still support him, so are you." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) broke House rules by calling the President "racist" on the floor, for which she would lose her speaking privileges for the day. Democrats, however, in a party line vote, overruled the rule, allowed Pelosi to remain speaking, and ordered her remarks not be stricken from the official records. All this is political maneuvering to position the President as a racist, those who support him as racists, and the narrative will be used in political ads throughout the election. In the end of the day, nothing is solved to better the nation. It's a sad day in America when people who prize freedom of speech cannot use their freedom to build up rather than tear down. It's a sad day in America when a President has not enough sense to behave "presidential." It's a sad day in America when elected officials will not represent their constituency rather than a tribal political ideal. It's a sad day in America when if you disagree with someone of color and you are counted a racist or bigot not on the merit of the disagreement, but because you have disagreed with a person of color. It's a sad day in America when we can't put this acerbic rhetoric aside and respectfully come together as "Americans" to solve the problems we have facing us. It's a sad day in America when words are twisted, hearts are judged, and emotions inflamed to serve nothing but hatred and hope of attaining votes from derision. Brothers and sisters, it's a sad day in America. These elected people are behaving irresponsibly and disrespectfully, seeking offense and taking offense on every word spoken. They are not doing the bidding required of them by the Constitution or the electorate. You are not a racist because you disagree with someone of a different ethnicity or race. You are not a bigot because you disagree with someone's political belief. You are not a white supremist because you were born white. Galatians 3:28 says, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." Christian Americans are a vast voting majority in this nation. We need to expect, require and demand better of our elected officials. Otherwise it will be a sadder day in America. I came from a home that was broken many, many times over. But I can look back on my past today and instead of moaning about it, I can say, "I went through that, and now I can comfort others." It has become a tool to help others. I wouldn't want to go through that again, of course. Nor would I want anyone else to go through the same thing. But I'm thankful that God can take my past and use it for His glory today. I'm thankful that He can take that hardship and use it for His glory. He can do the same for you. Maybe at this time in your life, you're going through some hard times, and you're wondering why. God will use it. It's hard to believe now. But just remember that it won't last forever. As 1 Peter 1:6-7 says, "In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ." Trials don't last forever. I'm reminded of a sign posted at the end of an airport runway that reads, "Keep moving. If you stop, you are in danger and a danger to those who are flying." You can take that same statement and apply it to the Christian life. Keep moving. Don't give up. Don't abandon hope. You are going to get through that valley in your life. There will be an even greater mountaintop beyond it, with great lessons you have learned as God demonstrated His strength in your weakness.
