Wrath - Jerry McDermott -
https://www.raptureready.com/2019/08/04/wrath-jerry-mcdermott/ The word wrath suggests a frightening happening. In fact, our topic is probably the strongest form of anger. Dropping a glass which shatters on the kitchen floor is not wrath. At the most, it probably generates mild anger or just being ticked-off. By contrast, wrath is described as fierce anger; fury; resentment, or passionate temper. However, do not confuse wrath with some insane form of conduct resulting in a crime. Wrath can be a response to faulty observation of agreed-on terms. Throughout the scriptures we are warned to be aware of God's wrath. However, since "God has not appointed us to wrath" (1 Thessalonians 5:9), why should we be concerned? God has set forth standards, commandments, and doctrines to guarantee a relationship with Him. However, we need to do more than just issue an "Okay." Consider that Jesus died for all our sins. "Christ was offered once to take away the sins of many. He will appear a second time not to take away sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him"' (Hebrews 9:28). "For by one offering, He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified" (Hebrews 10:12-14). By dying on the cross, Jesus will forever forget our sins. We need to accept Him and proclaim Him as our Lord and Savior and repent of our sinful past, thus accepting His love. The proof of God's love for His people is the avoidance of the Great Tribulation by the Rapture, where Christians meet Him in the clouds and are brought to heaven. The next major event after the Rapture is indeed the Great Tribulation, which is the focus of the Wrath of God during the reign of the anti-Christ. During this period, all hell breaks loose. The apostle John cries out, "Hide us from the Wrath of God" (Revelation 6:16). Whether you experience the Wrath of God or not depends solely on you and your choice. Those who repent, believe in, and confess Jesus Christ as Lord will be gone before the Great Tribulation starts. Scripture shows that the Body of Christ, His believing followers, will be rescued by Him in the Rapture of the Church. Note, it is not churches that will be Raptured, but true believers that will. This means that folks who only attend church and have not made a commitment to the Gospel will be left behind. What a glorious day the Rapture will be for His followers, to see Jesus in the clouds as he beckons both the dead and then the living to come forth. Since He then takes us to heaven, He equips us with heavenly bodies that will not fade, die, or get sick. Since we will be like our Lord, we can only imagine how we will imitate Him. You can scripturally read how Jesus traveled sometimes and how walls did not stop Him. That is the good news for the followers of Christ. For the post-Rapture people, they will experience Hell on earth, as the anti-Christ initiates the Great Tribulation by setting and then breaking his peace treaty with Israel. All along, since the birth of Jesus, our Lord has been known as the Prince of Peace. How then could a worldwide population seek peace through the lying new-world figure? The answer is that the restraining hand of the Holy Spirit will be removed from the world with the advent of the Rapture. Mankind will reveal their true nature, which truly is sin-laden in their actions of lawlessness by following the anti-Christ. Scripture gives us the outcome as, "This lawless one will appear as part of the workings of Satan, accompanied by all the power and signs and wonders at the disposal of falsehood by every seduction the wicked can devise for those destined to ruin because they have not opened their hearts to the truth in order to be saved. Therefore, God is sending upon them a perverse spirit which leads them to give credence to falsehood so that all who have not believed the truth, but have delighted in evildoing will be condemned" (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12). John also commented on unbelief by quoting Isaiah who had seen Jesus' glory, and it was of Him he spoke: "He has blinded their eyes and numbed their hearts lest they see or comprehend or have a change of heart and I shall heal them" (John 12:40). (As an aside, doesn't this blindness of everything truthful seem to explain the lying and Fake News being presented in 2019?) It isn't just that they did not believe in the Good News, but that they took pleasure in being evil. The end result of the Great Tribulation is that those who do not know God nor obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ will experience His vengeance in flaming fire (2 Thessalonians 1:8). Next, we are going to examine the Wrath of God through judgments in a brief commentary, but first here is the outline of the Tribulation: Seven seals; seven trumpets; seven symbolic figures-3-1/2 years Seven bowls; seven Babylon dooms; The Return of Christ - His Second Coming-3-1/2 years The Wrath of God as written in Revelation is very comprehensive. Therefore, I urge readers to follow the words in Revelation: 5-19 to realize the depth of the revealed words and the actions of the angels distributing the judgments. The apostle John was brought to heaven; and future events were shown to him, starting with Jesus holding a scroll with seven seals, which He opened. The first four seals reveal warriors aboard different-colored horses. The first offered worldwide peace via the anti-Christ which was later broken by the onset of war, along with the worldwide famine. The rider of the fourth horse represented the death of one fourth of the earth's population. The fifth seal showed those who have come to salvation in Jesus Christ during the Tribulation who are killed/martyred. The sixth seal showed the heavens and earth being changed, the result being mankind hiding from the wrath of the Lamb. The last seal divulges seven angels with trumpets which reveal heavenly judgments and the earth being pummeled by hail, a burning mountain, water pollution, darkened heavens, poisonous locusts, and one third of mankind being killed. Incredibly, the remaining people were still not turned toward God and continued sinful endeavors. John then beheld seven bowl judgments which greatly affected both mankind and the earth. The angels were told, "Go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth" (Revelation 16:1). These included detestable sores on mankind; sea creatures' death due to blood-contaminated water; rivers turned to blood; scorching high heat; darkness on the enemy throne; drying up the Euphrates river, and finally the destruction of the earth by the forces of nature. During this period, the battle of Armageddon takes place. This is the armies of the world versus the Israeli forces. Only Jerusalem and Israeli cities remain as the entire world is torn apart by devastating earthquakes and huge hail pieces. After this, Jesus returns to earth. It is His second coming as He and His followers begin the thousand-year reign, known as The Millennium Kingdom; and Satan is bound in the bottomless pit. I am sure some will wonder if Christians will face tribulation. The answer is, "Yes, we are experiencing it every day right now." However, we will not experience the Great Tribulation as we will be with the Lord after the Rapture takes place. Regardless of our current distress, we have to be mindful to trust the Lord. The tribulation we are now experiencing is the personal realization that we cannot trust the media, some churches, the political scene, or our failing culture. Regardless of our great economy and the proliferation of available jobs, we are hounded with such negativity as:
These negative observations are indicative of Satan's increased activity and realization of the End Times. Regardless of the mild tribulation distress we are experiencing, we look forward to the Great Hope, the Rapture, and eternity with our Lord. John began Revelation with these words, "Happy is the man who reads this prophetic message, and happy are those who hear it and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near" (Revelation 1:3). John finishes the Book of Revelation with the warning from Jesus Himself, "Remember, I am coming soon! I bring with me the reward that will be given to each man as his conduct deserves" (Revelation 22:12). [email protected] 3 Major Developments Happening Right Now That Could Lead To Global War - By Michael Snyder - http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/article.cfm?recent_news_id=3386 It has been a seemingly quiet summer in America so far, but meanwhile we are witnessing major developments on the other side of the globe that could change everything. We are so close to war, and yet most people have absolutely no idea what is happening. In fact, if you showed most Americans a blank map of the world, they couldn't even pick out Iran, Hong Kong or North Korea. There is so much apathy in our society today, and so little knowledge about foreign affairs, and so most people simply do not grasp the importance of the drama that is playing out right in front of our eyes. But if a major war does erupt, none of our lives are ever going to be the same again. So I am going to keep writing about these things, because I believe that we have reached an absolutely critical juncture in our history. Let's start with a stunning new development in the Middle East. Even though most Americans do not realize it, Israel and Iran are already shooting at each other. Israel has been striking Iranian military targets inside Syria for months, but now the rules of engagement have apparently changed, because in recent days the IDF has started conducting airstrikes against Iranian targets inside Iraq... In an unprecedented move, Israel has expanded its attacks on Iranian targets, with two bombing strikes on Iran-run bases in Iraq in the space of ten days. The Israeli Air Force carried out the military strikes with F-35 jets, according to Asharq Al-Awsat, an Arabic-language newspaper published in London. News of the attacks comes just a day after the US and Israel tested a missile defence system which used targets "similar to Iranian nuclear missiles". The reason this is being called "an unprecedented move" is because this is the very first time since 1981 that we have seen Israeli airstrikes inside Iraq. Needless to say, these latest airstrikes have absolutely enraged the Iranians. It looks like the Israeli government has determined that any Iranian military targets outside of Iran itself are fair game, and it is probably only a matter of time before Iran strikes back in a major way. And if Iran ultimately decides that one of the best ways to strike back is to start hitting targets inside of Israel, that could be the spark that sets off a major war in the Middle East. Meanwhile, it appears that something major is brewing in China. The political protests that have made global headlines in Hong Kong in recent weeks have greatly angered the Chinese government. They were probably hoping that the protests would quickly subside and soon be forgotten, but that hasn't happened. So now China is faced with a decision. If such protests were happening elsewhere in China, they would be brutally crushed, but Hong Kong is a special case. If the Chinese are too harsh with the protesters in Hong Kong, that could turn world opinion against them, but if they do nothing that could encourage protests to start happening in other area of the country. In the end, the Chinese will probably do what they always do, and that means crushing the opposition. And Zero Hedge is reporting that Chinese forces are currently gathering "on Hong Kong's border"... Massive anti-Beijing protests which have gripped Hong Kong over the past month, and have become increasingly violent as both an overwhelmed local police force and counter-protesters have hit back with force, are threatening to escalate on a larger geopolitical scale after the White House weighed in this week. With China fast losing patience, there are new reports of a significant build-up of Chinese security forces on Hong Kong's border, as Bloomberg reports: The White House is monitoring what a senior administration official called a congregation of Chinese forces on Hong Kong's border. Technically, Hong Kong is considered to be part of China, but it has always been allowed wide latitude to govern itself ever since it was handed over to the Chinese. But now things could be about to change dramatically, and some are even using the word "invade" to describe what is about to happen. For example, just consider this tweet from Kyle Bass... "The White House is monitoring a buildup of chinese forces on Hong Kong's border, a senior administration official said." Here we go..the moment the pla army marches from Shenzhen, it's over. china's army is going to invade HK. It's inevitable. #hk #china If Chinese forces start pouring into Hong Kong, the Trump administration is going to throw a fit. Relations between our two nations are already the worst that they have been since the end of the Korean War, and the situation in Hong Kong could potentially push things over the edge. In fact, the Chinese have already been placing the blame for the protests in Hong Kong squarely on the U.S. government... "It's clear that Mr. Pompeo has put himself in the wrong position and still regards himself as the head of the CIA," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a news briefing. "He might think that violent activities in Hong Kong are reasonable because after all, this is the creation of the U.S." China's position has been to recently declare the protests going "far beyond" what's legal and "peaceful" amid clashes with police. We shall see what happens, but this certainly has the potential to push the United States and China much, much closer to conflict. On top of everything else, North Korea just fired two more missiles into the ocean... North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles early on Wednesday, the South Korean military said, only days after it launched two other missiles intended to pressure South Korea and the United States to stop upcoming military drills. The latest launches were from the Hodo peninsula on North Korea's east coast, the same area from where last week's were conducted, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement. It said it was monitoring in case of additional launches. The North Koreans are greatly alarmed by the joint military drills that the U.S. and South Korea will soon be conducting, and whenever they get greatly upset about something they seem to express that displeasure by firing off more missiles. Yes, President Trump and Kim Jong-Un have been talking, but things remain extremely tense and it wouldn't take very much at all for a major conflict to erupt on the Korean peninsula. Without a doubt, we live at a time of "wars and rumors of wars", and those with discerning eyes can see what is happening. The chess pieces are slowly being moved into place, and the combatants are almost ready. Any number of things could ultimately spark World War 3, and once it begins it is going to be nearly impossible to stop. El Paso, Dayton, & Gilroy: The Heart of The Matter - John Stonestreet - http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/article.cfm?recent_news_id=3390 "If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds," Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn wrote, "and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them." Of course, there are evil people. We know that far too well, especially after this past weekend. In fact, that there are evil people out there is the one thing, maybe the only thing, everyone still agrees on. We disagree on who the people are: The evil shooter. The evil racist president. The evil progressives who want to take our guns. So we go on and on, identifying who the evil people are--always them--and we go on and on missing the real problem right in front of our face. Solzhenitsyn's point wasn't, as some argue, that people aren't really evil. Far from it. His point was that to assume evil exists only in them (whoever our "them" is) and not in us, is just plain wrong. Rather, as he continued: "... the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being." The finger pointing that immediately followed the mass shootings in Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton started before any facts were known, and came even quicker than usual. (Let's pause there ... "than usual." What a tragic way to talk about mass murders.) The finger pointers had already decided who the bad guys were, and many of us joined in on the chorus. So, we tweeted and reported and assumed the evil ones belonged to the other side while hoping they did not belong to ours. If it's discovered the evildoer does belong to us, we know how to twist and contort and accuse in order to explain any connection away. But, if he belongs to them, we also know how to leverage the tragedy to indict the entire lot. I say this as a 2nd Amendment guy. I fully agree that "guns don't kill people, people kill people." Read the online manifestos of these young men and tell me that they wouldn't eventually find some other way to carry out their violent fantasies. Even if gun control were the answer, how would we ever go about implementing it? Does anyone really think someone so radicalized to that degree of hatred would trade in their weapons for a gift card? At the same time, the idea that "the best way to stop bad guys with guns is with good guys with guns" needs to be reconsidered. At face value, I fully agree. What I fear, however, is that those who repeat this idea are working off of old math. When bad guys are willing to target innocents, even children, at schools, movie theaters, churches, festivals, and Wal-Marts ... what then? In Dayton, the good guys showed up in one minute, one minute, and the bad guy still killed nine people. Facing that sort of evil, how many good guys with guns will we need to protect us? Where exactly will we need them? Everywhere? That's called a "police state," and it's the inevitable end of any society that sinks so deeply into moral chaos. If that is our fate, make no mistake, we'll have brought it on ourselves. And by "we," I mean us and them. As the progressive left finds new ways to deconstruct the family, reconstruct morality, and scandalize the innocence of children at every level and in every area of culture while demonizing their evil other by state force and financial leveraging, the libertarian right demands unfettered license to say whatever and think whatever and post whatever on 8chan while demonizing its own evil other as the cause for all so-called ills. All this while the church faces scandal after scandal of its own making. Yet, we wonder how lonely young men without meaning or moral formation or fathers, who have no way to fulfill their pornographic-fueled fantasies, but have access to plenty of self-medication options, could be driven to white-supremacist or progressive extremism. We need to ask what it is about our culture that's producing these young men bent on killing and chaos. And we need to ask: Where is the church? Do we really think we are immune to the historically repetitive realities that have marked every crumbling civilization since the dawn of time? Do we really think we can keep our freedom in a society not only without virtue, but without any of the "little platoons" that form virtue? Can freedom be sustained where virtue is not flourishing? Chuck Colson asked this every time he spoke the last few years of his life. The answer to Chuck's question is still, of course, no. As Chuck said, it's either the conscience or the constable. Unless we are willing to look at us, to as Solzhenitsyn said, "destroy a piece of our own heart," our future is increasingly obvious. Only Christ can restore this mess. We must be about His work of restoration. Broken America - By Hal Lindsey - https://www.hallindsey.com/ww-8-6-2019/ Over the weekend we again saw unthinkable acts of human terror in the United States. I grieve with the victims' families and friends. I hope lawmakers can work together to find ways to make everyone safer while maintaining an open and free society. But we as a nation can only achieve this with God's help. In all the horror, Christians can take comfort in the fact that Jesus told us about these things far in advance. We live in an era when people want to define us and divide us by our ethnicity. In Matthew 24:7, Jesus said that in the last days, "Nation will rise against nation." Nation is a translation of the Greek word "ethnos." That's where we get the English word "ethnic." It means "people group will rise against people group." Today, we give it names like "white supremacy" and "identity politics." Many people work hard every day thinking up new ways to divide us along racial lines. These people range from radical extremists to political and media elites. For the United States, such divisions are especially dangerous because we are a land of many ethnicities. Our motto is E pluribus unum - Latin for "Out of many, one." The El Paso shooter apparently wrote a manifesto, and it illustrates the Lord's warning about the last days. If you've ever driven across Texas, you know that a trip from Dallas to El Paso is an extremely long one. But this young man apparently made that trip because El Paso is home to so many Mexican Americans. And he wanted to send them a message in blood. Wikipedia's history of US mass shootings with 10 or more fatalities starts with the "Camden shootings" in 1949. Thirteen people died at the hands of a man later pronounced "criminally insane." The next mass shooting took place at the University of Texas in 1966. Some suggest that a tumor near the shooter's amygdala - a part of the brain that deals with decision-making and emotional responses - might be behind the terrible actions. People at the time were somewhat relieved to again call it madness. They were not yet asking why madmen had begun to go on shooting sprees. Only one of these mass killings took place in the 1970s, then 5 in the 1980s, 2 in the 1990s, and 4 between 2000 and 2011. Since 2012, there have been 13 of them. Think about that. In the last seven years, there have been more mass shooting in America than in the entire 20th century. At such a time in our nation, many things need to be considered. But the biggest one is this. What changed? Here are some possibilities. A recent poll found that 22% of millennials (defined here as Americans between the ages of 23 and 38) have "no friends." One of the big reasons is that so many of them spend all their free time on video games. Then there are the video games themselves. Most of the mass shooters have been radically addicted to violent video games. We might also consider the absence of fathers, the absence of discipline, or drugs (including the prevalent use of mind-altering drugs to control ill-behaved children). Like the shootings themselves, these things are symptoms of something far bigger and far deeper. As a society, we have actively turned away from God. Sadly, many churches have been willing accomplices in this turning away. And now we live in a time of wounded people. In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus read a prophecy about Himself from the Old Testament. It powerfully expresses His mission. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." His message must become our message. Daily Jot: Corrupt trees bring forth evil fruit - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com The recent mass shootings in Texas and Ohio have resulted in headlines, politicians and commentators saying that President Trump is inspiring terrorism against Americans. There is enough visceral going around that no one person can be blamed for the horrible choices people make to commit deadly violence. All things add up. But the politicians are clamoring about to enact bans on private ownership of guns. So far, none of the knee-jerk demagoguery has suggested anything that works. We see their ideas failing in places like Chicago every day. Reputable studies indicate that the problem is the character of the person who has the gun, not the gun. A study of gun control laws in the 50 states conducted by researchers at Harvard and Boston Universities indicated that neither assault weapons nor handguns owned by homeowners increase homicide rates. The study analyzed the relationship between 10 state firearm laws and total, age-adjusted (firearm) homicide and suicide rates from 1991-2016, which included 1,222 observations of homicide analysis. The author of the study, Michael Siegel, professor of community health sciences at Boston University, told futurity.org in an interview that "tight regulation of who has access to firearms, rather than the type of firearms that are allowed, differentiates states with the lowest rates of homicides." The study indicated that that universal background checks were associated with a 14.9% reduction in overall homicide rates. Laws that prohibit violent crime convicts from possessing firearms showed an 18% reduction in homicide rates. Siegel told futurity.org, "What surprised us the most was that in states that enacted a combination of universal background-check laws, laws prohibiting the sale of guns to people with violent misdemeanors, and concealed carry permit laws, the homicide rates were 35 percent lower than in states with none of those three kinds of laws. The practice of keeping guns out of the hands of people who are at the greatest risk for violence-based on a history of violence-appears to be the most closely associated with decreased rates of firearm homicide." Siegel said, "Laws regulating the sale of assault weapons are unlikely to have a large impact on homicide rates, because these weapons are used in only a very small proportion of homicides. The vast majority of firearm homicides in the United States are committed with handguns...About 99.9 percent of all [gun-related deaths] in the United States are either suicides, unintentional shootings, or non-mass shooting homicides-none of which will be eliminated by getting rid of assault weapons...In contrast, laws that restrict access to firearms among those people who are at the greatest risk for violence-namely, people with a history of violence-are intervening among a subpopulation of people who are likely to commit crimes." This flies in the face of the shrill narrative that guns must be banned and the US population disarmed to stop mass murders and other homicides. Yet, neo communists keep beating the drum of disarmament. For example, Democratic presidential candidate Corey Booker (D-NJ) claimed in June that "We have in America, in the aggregate, a mass shooting every day, because dozens of people are shot and killed." Disarming America makes tyranny easier, and that's why all the lies about guns. Studies show that it is the character of the person using the gun, not the gun itself, who is the problem. As Christ said in Matthew 7:17, "Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit." Criminal character and lying politicians are both the evil fruit of corrupt trees. Daily Devotion: How to Get the Most out of Church - by Greg Laurie - www.harvest.org Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. -Romans 12:4-5 If you want to get the most out of church, then stop thinking like a consumer and start thinking like a communer. A consumer goes to church with an attitude that says, "It's all about me. Do what I want you to do." A communer, on the other hand, goes to church with the realization that it's all about us, and more importantly, it's all about Him. A communer asks, "How can I be a blessing to someone else today?" If you become self-absorbed, then you'll find that you're a very unhappy Christian. God has given every Christian a spiritual gift or gifts. And those gifts need to be used. We read in 1 Corinthians 12:7 that "a spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other" (NLT). And Romans 12:4-5 says, "Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other" (NLT). These aren't talents but spiritual gifts that come to us as believers. They're not given because we deserve them, because none of us deserve any of these gifts. Rather, God graciously bestows them upon us. How do we discover our spiritual gifts? Go out and serve the Lord. Volunteer wherever you can, wherever there is a need. You'll know in time whether that is the gift God has called you to use. You'll discover through prayer and the process of elimination what your gifts are (and what they are not). Serving with fellow believers is not only important to those you serve, but it's also important to you. This is how to get the most out of church. When you bless others, you will be blessed yourself.
