Battlefield Earth - Pete Garcia - http://www.omegaletter.com/articles/articles.asp?ArticleID=8697
Decades ago, the late science-fiction author and mind-cult leader L. Ron Hubbard wrote a book titled Battlefield Earth. I have never read the book, but the reviews on the movie (circa 2000) starring fellow Scientologist John Travolta, were absolutely terrible. In fact, it only got a 3% on the Rotten Tomatoes website, which routinely reviews movies and shows. The premise of the book and movie of the same name is set in the year 3000AD, where humans fight their way back from extinction against a race of alien giants. This article is not about that book or movie. This article is about a new series on the reality of warfare in the here and now. It is about a war that has been raging since the first I Will was ever uttered (Isaiah 14:13-14). It is about true, multi-domain battlefields, where warfare not only sheds blood, but also destroys souls forever. This war is not fought with bullets or bombs, but by influencers and ideologies that lead mankind to destroy and self-destruct with equal vigor. Multi-Domain Operations The Army (and the military at large) love their acronyms and jargon. They also love to recycle old concepts and repackage them with different terminology so they seem new. But as of late, the term's unified land operations, mission command, full spectrum operations, A2/AD (anti-access/area denial), and multi-domain battle space are recent upgrades to our vernacular meant to focus in on the growing complexity we face here in the 21st-century. So for the non-militarily inclined, what has changed? The key battle domains in the first half of the 20th-century, were primarily fought on land, sea, and air. However, by the end of World War II, the Manhattan Project had clandestinely married physics with warfare and initiated us into the atomic age with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The world had something now that it never had before, weapons of mass destruction. Fast-forward two decades and we were eagerly putting men into orbit and on the moon. Shortly thereafter, again, we were diving headfirst into the fourth industrial revolution without giving much thought of how deep the pool was. Turns out, the very systems (Internet Networks), we once enthusiastically linked all of our vital national and military infrastructure too, would one day become our greatest vulnerability. It is because of the Internet's vulnerability and potential for abuse that we have had to add cyberspace as one of our battle domains. We are just now (as of the last few years) just discovering how vulnerable our energy, information, financial, and intelligence systems actually are. If you did not know, all of these systems around the world are continuously under attack from cyber criminals, cyber-terrorist groups, and even rival nation states. (See Norse Live Attack Map). Hearkening back to the glory days of the Apollo 11 mission, President Trump recently announced a challenge for Congress and the US Department of Defense to create a "Space Force." While that may seem laughable at first, he was not making this directive in a vacuum. He probably had many within the Joint Chiefs of Staff recommending that we do this, or risk falling behind our peers, rivals, as well as any potential extraterrestrial visitors. However, while thoughts of Battlestar Galactica, Independence Day, and Star Trek readily come to mind, what the Space Force probably entails (at least for now), are things like weaponized satellite systems, space-station based missiles and laser systems, and manned / unmanned aircraft that operate on the outer threshold of our atmosphere for military purposes. The Last Domain For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 Systematically overlooked and seriously underestimated, is the final domain unregenerate man has yet to deal with, which is the unseen realm. The Bible speaks about a spiritual domain where battle between good and evil has been raging since the creation of the world. While unseen to the naked eye, the effects however, are just as real and just as deadly as any nuclear bomb or cyber-attack. The Bible speaks of an enemy, Satan, who operates with his own massive army, all around us, all the time, seeking only to destroy. Although he is a created being, Satan (formerly known as Lucifer) was the highest ranking of the angelic order before he rebelled, an anointed cherub who covers (Ezekiel 28:14). When he rebelled, he convinced a third of the angelic hosts to rebel with him (Rev. 12:4). Since the angelic hosts total number cannot be counted (Hebrews 12:22), we should presume that Satan has a vast army of fallen angels at his disposal. While most of our current leadership largely dismiss the spiritual domain as a true "threat," they only do so these days either out of fear of embarrassment, or because of political correctness. There is no denying that humans are more than just 'flesh and bone;' but rather, that we are spiritual beings created for eternity, who temporarily inhabit physical bodies (Ecclesiastes 3:11). So if humans have souls (we do), then it stands to reason, that we also have to compete and strive in the spiritual domain just as much as we do in the physical. From a strategic perspective then means that our Bible is the only true source document we can use for obtaining intelligence and battle tactics for how we fight back against our adversaries. Were it not for the Bible, we would have never known that Satan even existed. The Bible exposes his true nature and origins, his ambitions, but more importantly, how we can defeat him. Satan is described as being a murderer and the father of lies. Unfortunately, he does not operate in the spiritual domains alone, but can take on a physical nature when he sees fit. He moves about in all the domains man currently lives in, and has the tactical advantage of having lived for millennia. Satan has seen all of history, and has orchestrated countless deaths, revolutions, wars, and tragedies. He destroys everything good. He is the source of all corruption. He is the mastermind of every evil ideology. He has studied mankind and all of his weaknesses. He is a master-manipulator and shrouds his plans in the darkest pits of hell. Lastly, he has dominion over this earth at present (Luke 4:5-7), which means any system currently not plugged into God, has the ability to be used by Satan. Here are some examples from scripture to demonstrate this: Land And the Lord said to Satan, "From where do you come?" So Satan answered the Lord and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it." Job 1:7 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1st Peter 5:8 Sea Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. Revelation 13:1 Air And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. Ephesians 2:1-3 Conclusion The earth is the battlefield in which Satan is currently attempting to thwart God's plans. We know of no other planet or beings upon which Satan is waging battle over, so it is likely that we (humans) are the only prize there is to fight over. Satan currently executes precise dominion in all the natural realms, and uses his demonic forces to unleash unceasing attacks against God's plans and His people, which is why we've seen this being ramped up in the last century. Although we know he will be unsuccessful in the end, we currently suffer as cognizant victims of this particular kind of warfare as believers in Christ. Born-again Christians do not possess the power to bind Satan, as many within the Charismatic movement would have you to believe. Rather, we are to model our resistance against our adversary as Christ did. When Jesus was being tempted in the desert, even He did not exude that sort of authority (in His humanity), but rather, began every rebuttal with as it is written... (Luke 4:1-14). You and I possess this same power and authority, that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us! (James 4:7) We in our flesh do not possess any power, but in the Word, and by the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells us, we can stand our ground. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-Ephesians 6:10-18 Hamas Is Taking the Region To The Brink Of War - By Yaakov Lappin - http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/article.cfm?recent_news_id=2468 The security escalation in southern Israel and the Gaza Strip over the last 24 hours shows that Hamas is prepared to take the region to the brink of war, and that it believes it can force new rules of conduct on Israel while paying a minimal price for its aggression. Its actions have placed the region in danger of a major new conflict. Hamas's leadership is dangling the option of a long-term truce before Israel with one hand and firing barrages of rockets at southern Israel with the other, terrorizing hundreds of thousands of Israelis and risking the security of the Gazan civilians it rules over. Why is Hamas doing this? Essentially, it's because its leadership wants to signal to Israel, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority that it is willing to go all the way in its quest to end Gaza's isolation, and that if it cannot get enough money into Gaza to save its regime and military wing, it is willing to drag the area into a new war, whatever the consequences. The latest round of fighting began when a Hamas live-fire demonstration of snipers in Gaza was seen, apparently by mistake, as an attack by the Israel Defense Forces, drawing Israeli tank fire that killed two Hamas gunmen. Hamas swore to revenge their deaths and began rocketing the Israeli south. But the tank-fire incident is more of a secondary catalyst, which acted as a spark in a powder keg. Hamas is gambling on the assumption that Israel, preoccupied with greater threats to the north in the form of Hezbollah and Iranian forces in Lebanon and Syria, will make due with responding with limited airstrikes and seize on the opportunity to de-escalate in Gaza. Hamas is also using this latest escalation to broadcast a dangerous message to the rest of the region: that it is able to control the rules of the "game," and that it can exchange blows with Israel--the strongest regional power around--flood the Israeli south with rockets and walk away to tell the tale. This, Hamas likely believes, will strengthen its narrative and credibility on the Palestinian street. Hamas is also using these events to push other actors into answering its demands to end Gaza's isolation and get money pouring into Gaza again, thereby preventing an economic collapse. But Hamas's brinkmanship can fail for many reasons and blow up in its face. It might push too far, and compel Israel to seize the initiative and launch a major military operation that will end when Jerusalem, not Hamas, decides. Whether or not this happens will be up to the Israeli cabinet and its various, complex calculations over such a maneuver. In addition, Hamas may fail to secure funds for Gaza because it is unable to reach an agreement with its internal enemy, the Palestinian Authority, which in many ways holds the keys to Gaza's economy. As long as the P.A. views Gaza as a renegade rebel Islamist province, which is under an illegitimate government that rose to power in a coup in 2007, it will block efforts by the international community or regional actors to invest in Gaza's economy. The P.A. can get in the way of Egyptian efforts to reach a long-term arrangement to stabilize the situation. The P.A. is demanding that Hamas disband its military wing first--something Hamas will never accept, meaning that the situation is stuck in a stalemate. Hamas's military wing in Gaza, which has evolved into a terrorist army specializing in urban warfare and rocket attacks, is its top priority. Hamas would rather go to war than contemplate the option of disarming. This is one of the signals it appears to be sending through recent incidents. It wants to continue investing huge sums in the military wing, and have others foot the bill for Gaza's civilian needs. Hamas is trying to blackmail Israel and others into accepting this setup. Israel, for its part, will soon have to make critical decisions. Its leaders will either need to decide that the status quo has become intolerable, and that a strategy is needed--based on a combination of military force and diplomacy--to restore calm and restore Israeli deterrence, which has been badly eroded. Alternatively, it may decide to go for a long-term truce. Hamas's aggression is a signal that the middle-ground option of a limited truce that is violated with increasing frequency and severity is becoming untenable. Before Our Very Eyes - By Daymond Duck - http://www.raptureready.com/2018/08/12/eyes-daymond-duck/ Almost every week, I have the great honor of updating a small group of people on recent current events in Bible prophecy. A retired pastor attends most of the updates, and I always call upon him for a dismissal prayer. He faithfully thanks God and often prays, "We realize that Bible prophecy is being fulfilled before our very eyes." Below are three things that are occurring before our very eyes. First, on Aug. 1, 2018, a Russian official told a newspaper that Russia had managed to get Iranian Hezbollah and Shiite forces in Syria to withdraw to a distance of 85 km (53 miles) from Israel's border. It turns out that he was lying, and several other news outlets quickly repeated his lie. Over the next two days, Iranian, Hezbollah and Shiite forces moved closer to Israel's border along the Golan Heights - not farther away. Russia also stationed Chechen troops in Russian uniforms at eight positions along Syria's border with Israel on the Golan Heights. Israel's Gog and Magog enemies are fulfilling prophecy before our very eyes. Second, on May 8, 2018, Pres. Trump withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal and signed an executive order to re-impose sanctions on Iran. Some of those sanctions were to kick in in 90 days (on Aug. 6, 2018) and others in 180 days (on Nov. 4, 2018). Iran's official currency is called the rial, and its value immediately started slipping against the dollar. Inflation has struck, and citizens are demonstrating. Russia is struggling economically due to three years of low oil prices, sanctions imposed over her 2014 annexation of Crimea, corruption, negative population growth, the cost of propping up Syria, and more. Turkey's lira has been declining lately over interest rate problems, inflation, and sanctions imposed by Pres. Trump on two government officials for Turkey's failure to release American pastor Andrew Brunson. How about that? Iran, Russia and Turkey need silver and gold, cattle and goods; and, not surprisingly, Israel has all of these things. This is more Bible prophecy that is being fulfilled before our very eyes. Third, on Aug. 3, 2018, it was reported that the Trump Administration is putting together a staff to present Mr. Trump's peace proposal and to explain and deal with the events that may follow. For weeks, we have been reading that the Arab nations are ready to recognize the existence of Israel as a Jewish nation, make concessions, and sign an agreement on the condition that the PA gets an independent nation with East Jerusalem as its capital. This writer cannot predict what Mr. Trump's peace proposal will say. But while this discussion of dividing Israel has been taking place, monster wildfires have burned millions of acres of land and more than 1,000 homes out west; drought has destroyed crops and animals, and started drying up lakes and rivers in the southwest; and record-breaking temperatures have caused havoc for millions. Even though Pres. Trump has been good to Israel and experienced God's blessings on America, one must wonder if God is warning him against dividing Israel and Jerusalem. The future of Israel and Jerusalem are not at stake, but the well-being of America could quickly change before our very eyes. Prophecy Plus Ministries, Inc. Daymond & Rachel Duck [email protected] Israel: A New Day Dawning - by Donna Classen - [email protected] As Christians we are directed in Psalm 122:6-8 to: "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels. For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within you." This tiny nation of Israel, no bigger than New Jersey, is the focal point of the whole world. Yet, most people believe the world's focal point might be America or China or perhaps Russia, North Korea or a combination of these nations. Certainly these nations grab daily headline news. These nations are large in area, densely populated and strong militarily. But it is the tiny nation of Israel that God watches over. God has made Israel, the apple of His eye, both extremely prosperous and successful. Even though Israel is the 100th smallest country in the world: * It has the second highest ratio of college educated residents in the world. * It is only one of nine countries that can launch its own satellites into space. * Motorola developed most of the cell phone technology in Israel. * It is on the forefront of important breakthroughs in treating heart disease and cancer. * It is a world leader in computer technology, business and agriculture. Israel has made important advancements in medicine, business, technology and agriculture that has enhanced the lives of many around the world. Yet, most of the "civilized" world is against Israel and their right to exist as a nation. Issues Israel Battles Daily the citizens of Israel face potential destruction of life a and property from "the rockets' red glare," car bombings and other terrorist activities. For most of 4,000 years, Israel has fought enemies from the surrounding nations on the battle field. The BDS Movement Recently, the battles facing Israel are not only military in nature, but also battles related to business and trade. One such insidious movement is known as BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions). The proponents of this movement have as their end goal agenda the complete dissolution of the Jewish state. The BDS movement began in 2005 as a tickle. The [B] (Boycott) movement was in full swing by 2009. That year, the British government issued recommendations to business owners asking that Israeli products be labeled as such to make it easier for consumers to boycott Israeli products. In 2012, Denmark got on board with this labeling system. That same year a large Swiss grocery chain followed suit. By 2015 the entire European Union adopted this labeling system. Consequently, products from certain regions of Israel sat on the shelf. Because of this boycott, Israel business owners and their employees had a difficult time making ends meet. The next part of this movement [D] is divestment. Investment means to put money into something to gain a profit. It follows then that divestment means to sell off or stop putting money in a company or business. Banks, pension funds, and corporations are being pressured NOT to invest in companies they think promotes Israeli or Jewish interests. This pressure that is applied is not because the investments are unsound or illegal, it is because of religious and ethnic bigotry. This part of the movement also stunts economic growth in Israel. The [S] of the BDS means sanctions. This is the most crippling part of the movement. Sanctions include import or export duties on goods, quotas limiting amounts of goods that can be traded between countries and embargos that prevent goods and services from being supplied from country to country. Sanctions ensure that necessary goods coming into a country are in short supply and business owners and farmers selling products leaving the country are prevented from making a profit to further their businesses and pay the bills. Sanctions can affect essentials such as food, energy and military parts. Replacement Theology The second battle Israel faces is within the church itself. This second battle is found in the idea of "Replacement Theology." Many within "Christian" circles believe the Christian church has replaced national Israel regarding the plan, purpose and promise of God. These people believe the Christian church now are God's chosen people instead of the Jews. Replacement theology seeks to remove Israel from a national destiny in the land of Canaan because of the rejection of Jesus as Messiah. Replacement Theology rests on the assumption that the Abrahamic Covenant that promises Israel eternal ownership of the land of Canaan has been abolished. Once this promise has been negated, restoration of present day Israel means nothing and the only hope lies in the church. If this theology is correct, God is not true to His Word. Israel is the only nation in history that God promised a piece of land to its inhabitants forever. In Genesis 13:14-15: "The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. All the land you see I will give to you and your offspring forever." The promise God made to Abram didn't stop there. In Genesis 15:8 Abram wondered how this promised possession would come to pass: "But Abram said, "O Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it." God directed Abram to bring a heifer, goat and ram each three years old along with a dove and a pigeon. The large animals were to be cut in half and the halves arranged opposite each other. The birds were not cut in half. All day Abram waited for the covenant ceremony with God. Finally, as the sun began to set Abram fell into a deep sleep. When the sun set, God with a smoking firepot and blazing torch passed between the halves of the animals showing if He broke the covenant the same fate as the animals would befall God Himself. In Genesis 15:18 God declared: "On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, - the Euphrates." This covenant was recognized as a formal life agreement. It could not be broken during the life of either party. God, on that day, swore by Himself and the covenant will last as long as God's life, who is eternal. A New Day Dawning Many issues threaten the peace, safety and well-being of the people of Israel. But, a new day is dawning for the Jews of the tiny nation of Israel. Against all odds, Donald Trump, a real estate mogul, was elected president of the United States in November of 2016. Finally, President Donald Trump lived up to the commitment made by Congress in 1995: The U.S. Embassy would be relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. On Monday, May 14, 2018, America honored that pledge after 23 years. By doing this America was recognizing that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. Like it or not, the world will have to deal with a Jewish Jerusalem. The biggest issue facing Israel is land: who owns it and how far do the boundaries extend. Very shortly, President Donald Trump, real estate developer, will present a Middle East peace plan. Will that plan divide the land? Will it bring peace or more war? The time is now for the Third Temple to be rebuilt. Will President Trump help in the building process? A new day is dawning for Israel. Will all this help usher in the return of the Messiah? Only time will tell. A new day is dawning, also, for America and those who stand with Israel. Let us pray for Israel as scripture directs in Psalm 122:6 and 9: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure." "For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity." Daily Jot: Joy in Christ's labors - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com I have been receiving a lot of comments lately from Daily Jot readers. Many have been very encouraging. Others are appalled at the divisive state of affairs in our nation--the news media's and leftists' steady stream of visceral toward everything that disagrees with them. Sometimes it is a good idea to take a step back, take a deep breath, and look at the world from a different angle. When I started the Daily Jot back in January of 2002, I sensed the Lord wanted a brief testimony of daily events that could equip and encourage people to share the Good News. Most of the Daily Jot readers, especially those who have been reading a while, "get it." But I want to encourage all readers to keep things in perspective. The Bible is about Jesus Christ and what he did to bring salvation to a fallen world. There are many examples of how we are to live our lives and how we are to treat others. A good friend of mine says "You reap what you sow, more than what you sow, later than you sow." He's got a great point. It really is a law of God. So if you read the Jot and use it to share a Biblical perspective by discussing a current event, then you have planted a seed. Unlike seeds that you plant in a garden, you may never see the growth of that seed, but God's word does not return void. Please be encouraged to share what is in the Daily Jot with others--either verbally, or via email, or any other way that you see fit. The Daily Jot is NOT intended to bring you distress or sorrow or fear. As Christians, we are often mocked for saying that we are living in the end times. They say that every generation thinks that. But the fact of the matter is that every day brings us closer to the Biblical end times. Certainly, there are many prophetic indicators that tell us we are getting closer and closer to the return of the Messiah. How wonderful is that? We know from scripture that things are going to get worse the closer we get. But we are encouraged in Ephesians 6:13, "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." Part of what the Daily Jot is intended to do is to rally folks to do the right thing. Romans 12:21 says "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." Our country long has been a beacon of Christian hope to the rest of the world. I know. I have traveled quite a bit and hear what people say. We have a legal say in how things are done in our country. But because we have diverted our attention away from God and from His precepts of good citizenship, our beacon has dimmed. Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3 that he has seen travail of the labors of men. "I know there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labor, it is the gift of God." Don't let these troubled times get you down. Find joy in Christ's labors. Daily Devotion: The Sustaining Power of Prayer - By Greg Laurie - www.harvest.org Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. -James 5:13 When my wife, Cathe, and I faced the greatest crisis of our lives, which was our son Christopher's death in an automobile accident, we learned to pray as never before. Our prayers weren't just prayers of petition; they were prayers of desperation. They were prayers to get through the day. Three things helped me as we went through, and continue to go through, that crisis: prayer, the Word of God, and the encouragement of fellow believers. I found that I needed to pray, especially in the immediate aftermath, to get to sleep at night. I needed to pray to get up in the morning. I needed to pray to make it through another day. We went to church the next Sunday morning, three days after it happened, and later people would come up to me and say, "Greg, we saw you and your family at church. You're so strong. We can't believe how strong you are." But I didn't go to church that Sunday because I was strong. I went to church because I was weak. I needed God's help. I needed to pray. I needed God's Word. I needed encouragement. Even when things are going reasonably well, we still should pray. James 5:13 says, "Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises" (NLT). Sometimes we go to church feeling overwhelmed by our problems. We worship the Lord, we hear a message from God's Word, and then we leave-and our problems are still there. But we see them differently, because we have seen God in His power. When we pause to contemplate the greatness of God, we get perspective. When we have a big God, we have relatively small problems. It is all in how we look at things. FROM THE HEART
