But of that Day and Hour - by Randy Nettles -
https://rev310.com/2019/09/but-of-that-day-and-hour But of that day and hour no man knows, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:36-37 Chapter 24 in the book of Matthew has always been a mystery to me. To quote Winston Churchill (regarding Russia): "it is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma". Many Bible experts differ in their opinions regarding Matthew 24 and especially verses 36-44. The late Bible teacher Jack Kelley and renowned researcher Thomas Ice are two eschatological astute scholars who believe/d that the whole chapter is describing the Tribulation and the subsequent 2nd Coming. Many other teachers, including writers Terry James and Gene Lawley, believe Matthew 24 is talking about two different end-time events. In their reckoning, the first part of the chapter describes the Tribulation and 2nd Coming, while verses 36-44 describe the Rapture of the Church. I have struggled to come to a conclusion regarding which of these two differing opinions is correct. I have changed my mind several times throughout the years regarding this eschatological topic. I always assumed verses 36-44 were talking about the 2nd Coming since Jesus was answering the disciple's questions about the end of the world, and we know the Rapture occurs at least 7 years prior to his return to the earth. The previous verses of 23-31 are definitely speaking about Jesus' return (2nd Coming) after the Tribulation. All the experts are pretty much in agreement on this point. Verses 32-35 sum up the timing of when the 2nd Coming is to occur. In these verses, the modern nation of Israel is compared to the fig tree. When the fig tree's branch is tender and leaves start appearing, then you know summer is near. Likewise, in verse 34, the generation of Jews that were born when Israel became a nation in 1948 will not pass until "all these things are fulfilled". Moses described a generation as being 70-80 years old in Psalm 90:10. Do the math. The modern nation of Israel will be 80 years old in 2028. The question remains: "Why would Jesus (who had been talking about his return to the earth with power and great glory) change the subject from the 2nd Coming and then start talking about the Rapture in verses 36-44? Earlier in verse 30, he described his return as a visible manifestation that all the earth would witness. No unbeliever will see Jesus in the sky at the Rapture...only the believing raptured Church. They are two totally different earth-shattering events. Also, Jesus never really discussed the Rapture with his disciples. He hinted at it in a few places, but it was a mystery until it was revealed later to Paul. On the other hand, if Jesus was talking about the 2nd Coming in verses 36-44, how could it be compared to the days of Noah? Although it was a very wicked generation in those Antediluvian days, people were going about their everyday activities such as eating, drinking, and marrying before the flood came and took them away. They had no idea what was coming for them, even though Noah had warned them. Likewise in Luke 17:20, the same can be said about the days of Lot before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah; for they were also eating, drinking, buying and selling merchandise, planting crops, and building houses. They also had no idea they were living in the last days before their great Tribulation. However, when Jesus returns after the 7 year Tribulation, the remaining people who are still alive will not be going about their normal activities. They will just be trying to survive. "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake, those days shall be shortened. Matthew 24:22 So how do we reconcile this mystery/enigma/riddle? I believe we have to go back to the beginning of the chapter in Matthew 24:3 where the disciples asked Jesus 3 questions: 1) When shall these things be? 2) What shall be the sign of your coming again? 3) What shall be the sign of the end of the world? The Jews (even the disciples) have always required a sign before they would believe. The first question was regarding the timing of the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem. Jesus never answered this question for some reason. In hindsight, we know it occurred in A.D. 70. Jesus answered the disciple's questions out of order. He answered the third question first. What shall be the sign of the end of the world? He describes the events and details in verses 4-31, thus answering their question. These are all signs that the end of the world (as we know it) is near and Jesus will be returning to the earth soon. Jesus answered the second question last. What shall be the sign of your coming? He replies to this question in verses 36-44. In these verses, I have come to believe that he is speaking of the Rapture and not the 2nd Coming. The Rapture is the answer to the disciples 2nd question. The supernatural sign that precedes Jesus' 2nd Coming is the Rapture. It is proof that Jesus will come again physically to the earth. If millions of people from around the world disappear all of a sudden (in the blinking of an eye) on a particular day and hour, and you are not one of them, you had better come to the conclusion that this is a supernatural sign from God. He wants those left behind to know that the end is near and Jesus is coming again, just as the Bible says. This time he will not come for salvation, but for judgment and punishment. Genesis 7:7 is a brief description of events immediately preceding the flood when Noah, his sons, his wife, and his son's wives went into the ark. "And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth" (Genesis 7:10). Noah, his family, and the animals were shut up in the ark for 7 days before the flood began. I wonder what the waiting was like before they heard those first (ever) raindrops falling on the ark's roof. "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be" (Matthew 24:37). The Rapture will precede the 2nd Coming by at least 7 years...probably more. During this interval, the Antichrist will appear on the world scene and Daniel's "70th seven" prophecy regarding world events will resume. After 7 years of the greatest Tribulation known to man, Jesus will return to the earth to destroy his enemies and set up His Millennium Kingdom. The translated saints (who were raptured earlier) will return with Him as part of the armies of heaven. We will only be witnesses at the Battle of Armageddon, for Jesus will defeat the Antichrist and the nations of the world by Himself. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he does judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he has on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of Kings, And Lord of Lords. Revelation 19:11-16 Who is this that comes from Edom (Jordan), with dyed garments from Bozrah; this that is glorious in his apparel, traveling in the greatness of his strength? It is I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Why is your apparel red, and your garments like him that treads in the wine fat? I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth. Isaiah 63:1-6 Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus. Randy Nettles [email protected] Watching and Waiting - By Daymond Duck - https://www.raptureready.com/2019/09/08/watching-waiting-daymond-duck/ First, the Middle East has reached a boiling point. In just two days, Israel attacked targets in Gaza, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. All of these nations are mentioned in end-of-the-age prophecies, and all of them are currently in a state of high alert. The Iraqi and Lebanese governments called Israel's attacks an act of war, and Hezbollah (in Lebanon) threatened to attack Israel. Iran moved troops closer to Israel's border with Syria and said Israel will pay a price for its actions. Prime Min. Netanyahu briefed his main opponent in the Israeli election on the situation and beefed up his troops and weapons at bases near Israel's borders with Syria and Lebanon. Mr. Netanyahu ordered all Israeli troops to stay at least 3 kilometers away from those borders unless they are armed and wearing a bulletproof vest. Israel's ambassador to the UN demanded that the UN rein in Iran, but no one thinks that will happen. On Aug. 28, 2019, Israel ordered a six-kilometer area of airspace along Israel's border with Lebanon closed to civilian aircraft. On Aug. 29, 2019, the Israeli military cancelled the leaves and furloughs of all Israeli troops serving in the combat brigades on the Syrian and Lebanese borders. On Aug. 29, 2019, U.S. Sec. of State Mike Pompeo made it clear that Israel can count on U.S. help, including military assistance, if war breaks out. On Sept. 1, 2019, Hezbollah fired several anti-tank missiles from Lebanon into Israel, and the IDF retaliated with about 100 shells of their own. On the same day, Prime Min. Netanyahu urged citizens living within four kilometers of Israel's border with Lebanon to open their bomb shelters. Also, on that same day, Lebanon's Prime Min. asked France and the U.S. to pressure Israel to back off, and Russia called upon Hezbollah and Israel to get control of the situation before it turned into an all-out war. It was also reported that Israel had planes in the air for the purpose of delivering a massive attack on Hezbollah, but the attack was suddenly cancelled. As of this writing (Sept. 2, 2019), things have calmed down, but there is much doubt about how long that will last. For whatever it is worth, if all-out war had broken out, it is not unreasonable to believe that several end-of-the-age prophecies could have been quickly fulfilled. Second, it is common knowledge that China has implemented a Social Credit Score system in some areas of the nation, and Beijing is now tracking what millions of her citizens are doing. Many factors determine a citizen's Social Credit Score including what they buy and sell; who they send e-mail to; who they associate with; the websites they visit; their driving record, use of alcohol, control of their pets, etc. Chinese citizens with a high Social Credit Score are rewarded with better jobs, access to better houses, better schools for their children, lower utility bills, better Internet service and other perks. Chinese citizens with a low Social Credit Score are punished with low-paying jobs, poorer housing, poorer schools for their children, higher utility bills, poorer internet service, etc. Here is the latest: A movement is now underway to bring a China-like Social Credit Score system to the U.S. Several High-tech companies are pushing the U.S. government to establish a Social Credit Score system because they want to sell and install the surveillance equipment (cameras, computers, monitors, etc.). Social media companies (like Facebook) want to sell the data they are collecting to the government, insurance companies and others. Insurance companies want to raise the healthcare rates on known bad drivers, smokers, drinkers, etc. These things are leading to the Mark of the Beast, and they are a sure sign that time is short. For whatever it is worth, the city of Philadelphia has 100,000 street lights that city officials plan to replace in the next three years. The new street lights will be part of an interconnected system of security cameras, air-quality monitors, traffic and pedestrian counters, and gunshot detectors. Third, on Aug. 26, 2019, Pres. Trump said he thinks Israel and the PA want to make a deal, and he believes it could happen. If they agree to negotiate, it could still drag on for years, there could be war or whatever. But it is important to understand that the Rapture will be before the Antichrist confirms a peace treaty, and there could be a peace treaty on the table in less than a month. Fourth, on Sept, 17, 2019, Israel will hold a second vote to try to elect a new Prime Minister. The election is very tight, and one of Israel's small political parties has bowed out of the campaign and given its support to Prime Min. Netanyahu. This was apparently brought on by the fact that Prime Min. Netanyahu offered to give the head of that political party, Moshe Feiglin, a high position in the next Netanyahu government (assuming there is another Netanyahu government). This could be a deciding factor in the election, and the fascinating thing about it is the fact that Mr. Feiglin strongly supports a rebuilt Temple. This begs a question: Did God set up this election standoff to put a strong advocate for rebuilding the Temple in a high position to fulfill His Word? We need to keep watching and waiting (and, most of all, be ready). Prophecy Plus Ministries, Inc. Daymond & Rachel Duck [email protected] Iran Ready to "Wipe the Zionist Regime off the Map" - by Majid Rafizadeh - https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14837/iran-zionist-regime Malign behavior in the world today seems largely to be the result of people who have the power to correct what is wrong willfully looking the other way: hypocrisy. Currently, one of the biggest beneficiaries -- along with China, North Korea, Venezuela, Russia, Turkey and Cuba -- is the Islamic Republic of Iran. Among other lawlessness, Iran, since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, has continued non-stop to threaten the existence of Israel in contravention of Chapter 1 the United Nations Charter -- without any reproof or rebuke from the international community. Amazingly, Israel has been bullied and criticized by the same international community for merely taking precautionary measures to defend its citizens and territorial integrity, as any country would. If, for any reason, the Israeli government ever issued a declaration about destroying Iran "in half an hour," as Iran recently said about Israel, we would probably never hear the end of the criticism from all parts of the world. The European Union would likely take even more measures to counter Israel. There would doubtless be an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to hurl slanders against Israel, followed by countries pledging solidarity and support for Iran. It was Mojtaba Zolnour, chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, who issued this latest threat. For some reason, the Islamic Republic is getting a free pass for continually threatening to wipe out Israel off the map. This lopsided justice is either a case of selective amnesia or outrageous double standards by the international community. In a recent ceremony in the northern city of Urumiyeh, the commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami, again vowed to obliterate Israel. He boasted that Iran has empowered its Lebanese proxy to such an extent that Hezbollah "alone" can wipe out Israel. According to Salami, "The Lebanese Hezbollah has now developed such an extent of power through the experience of confrontation against proxy wars that it is now, by itself, able to wipe the Zionist regime off the map in any possible war." He added that "They [the US and its allies] intended to undermine Iran's regional influence, but everyone witnessed how this policy backfired to increase Iran's influence and a united front was formed against the Zionist regime." Salami also pointed out that Iran has assisted Hezbollah to sharpen its military capabilities fighting in Syria to become strong enough single-handedly to "wipe the Zionist regime off the map". Revealingly, when the Iranian general was appointed as the IRGC commander by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in April, it appears that one of the main reasons behind his appointment was his deep antagonism towards the state of Israel and the Jewish people. Before becoming the IRGC commander, Salami was in charge of building up Iran's ballistic missile system capable of "annihilating" Israel. The IRGC commander has consistently maintained his desire and ambition to destroy Israel. Salami was previously quoted as saying that "Today, more than ever, there is fertile ground - with the grace of God - for the annihilation, the wiping out and the collapse of the Zionist regime." He also famously boasted that "In Lebanon alone, over 100,000 missiles are ready to be launched," adding: "If there is a will, if it serves [our] interests, and if the Zionist regime repeats its past mistakes due to its miscalculations, these missiles will pierce through space, and will strike at the heart of the Zionist regime. They will prepare the ground for its great collapse in the new era." He also has said, "Iran's policies towards the terrorist groups and the Zionist regime will not change, and this regime will be vanished from the global political scene." As one of the most effective ways to attract public support in the Iranian government is to slander Israel, Iranian politicians across the political spectrum have shown support for the IRGC commander. Iran, however, does not have monopoly on violence; it needs to be told -- in no uncertain terms -- by the international community that it cannot continue to bully Israel. The international community, for its part, needs to stop its double standards by taking measures against Iran's vows to annihilate Israel. Fortunately, since U.S. President Donald J. Trump took office, America's Iran policy has been heading in the right direction. Steadily escalating economic sanctions have inflicted serious damage on Iran's economy. Maximum pressure is the right policy to adopt to bridle this predatory regime. Israel Watch: Judgment? - Jim Fletcher - [email protected] I taught at a church Wednesday night, from Joel. Of course, the famous third chapter looks ahead to God's judgment of the nations in the end of days. Here, the Lord says He will enter into judgment against the nations of the world, specifically for how they treated the Jews and Israel. It won't be a pretty sight. History is littered with countries and civilizations that oppressed the Jews, and they all went down to the pit, as they say. Babylon, the Greeks, the Ottoman Empire, etc., have all gone the way of the dinosaurs. And yet I noticed something in studying these passages and so I want to share this with you and let you mull it over. Over and over, I've heard people ask, "Is the United States in Bible Prophecy?" I don't think it is directly, at least it's not mentioned by name. But as I read over Joel 3, it occurred to me that if it says all nations will be judged, that must mean all, right? I believe it does. We see in this passage scenario that I think very closely follows Zechariah's great prophecies. It sounds like the same event, this battle over Jerusalem and Israel's sovereignty. So let me throw this out there: Even though judgment is a scary word, and Divine Judgment is positively shattering to contemplate...does it always mean something negative? The Scripture simply tells us what the nations will be judged for how they treated God's People. Naturally, that should make the nations quake in their boots. But not all nations. What is the one nation that has embraced the Jews and offered them sanctuary? Correct. America. Is it wrong to think God will judge our country in a positive way? I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility. But something important remains. We are not out of the Divine Woods yet. We are not yet at the very end. A story this week gave me pause. From the Jerusalem Post: "Swastikas were found painted using graffiti on over a dozen houses along several streets in San Pedro, California. "'I cannot believe this happened to my house,' said Lilliana Gonzales, a resident of one of the vandalized properties. 'It's ugly. It's disgusting and we need to do something about it.'" Yes, we need to do something about it. But who will do something about it? Gonzales went on to say something good, but naïve: "'God created everyone all equal and we should be able to be nice to each other, happy, content, and just avoid this stupidity.'" Anti-Semitism is starting to become a force in America. This has never been so. Another family had to flee persecution by finding sanctuary in a synagogue in Philadelphia. Even in my own rural area, there is a rag newspaper printed that subscribes to Jewish conspiracy theories. These things not only damage people, but they threaten our future. I don't want to stand in that kind of judgment one day. Daily Jot: Got Hope? - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com We can look at the headlines and it doesn't take much intuition to see that the news media and much of America depend heavily on politics. Politics looking at issues. Politics looking at who is running for office. Politics, politics, politics. If our hope is in politics and politicians, it is a hope of dark days ahead. As Christians, our hope can be in nothing less than Christ. Political leadership long has turned away from common sense This, however, is no time for the weak-hearted or for America's Christians to disengage and throw in the towel. It seems we have been doing that since the 1960s, and it hasn't worked. Christ is the answer to this dark and dying world, and you are his vessel. Think about that. You have a calling. And much bad doctrine has been taught about this. The Holy Scriptures say in Romans 8:28 "that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." It's not your purpose, but "HIS" purpose. Romans 11:29 says that "the gifts and calling of God are unchangeable." So when people are saying that you have to find your calling, it is really understanding that you are called "not according to our works, but according to his own purpose (2 Timothy 1:9)." Christ is our example. He is the way the truth and the life. He showed us how to engage according to his purpose. It takes courage to conduct Christ's purpose in this world, in this country today. Psalm 31:24 says, "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all you that hope in the LORD." As Christians, our hope is in the Lord. We are to be ever watching for his return. As Galatians 6:9 says, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." And Jesus promises in Matthew 10:22, "And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved." We, as Christians, are not to stand by and allow evil to advance just because we have read the end of the book and we win. We are to not be overcome with evil, but to overcome evil with good. The Lord says to be of good courage and that his gifts will never change--you are equipped. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." We are reminded that it isn't easy in 2 Corinthians 4:8,9: "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed..." Verse 6 tells us, "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." We should not fear man. Man cannot take our soul. So we need to take heart during these times. Have courage. Put on the full armor of God and speak boldly as we ought to speak. And having done all, stand. Daily Devotion: One Man, Two Personalities - by Greg Laurie - www.harevst.org Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?-Romans 7:15-24 Reflecting back on his life and the awful period of substance abuse, Johnny Cash said in 1975, "I know that the hand of God was never off me, no matter what condition I was in, for there is no other way to explain my escaping the many, many accidents I had." By his own estimation he had wrecked virtually every car he ever owned, totaled two jeeps and a camper, and overturned two tractors and a bulldozer. He sank two boats in separate incidents and once leaped from a truck just before it went over a 600-foot cliff. After long, frenzied drug binges, just before he drifted off into unconsciousness, Cash sometimes heard a quiet voice say, "I am your God. I am still here. And I am still waiting. I still love you." Not every drug addict or alcoholic wants to leave that life behind. Some actually find a form of comfort in that darkness. God was ready to change the singer's life, but Cash was not quite ready for the Lord to do that. So, the struggle continued. Cash often vowed to change, to go back to church and be the kind of man his brother Jack would have been and would want him to be. But he always relapsed. His body's craving for amphetamines overruled His heart's desire for righteousness. It was a true Jekyll-and-Hyde existence. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, "Do you want to be made well?" (John 5:2-6 NKJV) Why would Jesus ask a man in that condition if he wants to be made well? Wouldn't it be obvious? For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. (Romans 8:5-7 NKJV) Where do the pursuit of worldly pleasures and the desires of the flesh inevitably lead? I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? (Romans 7:15-24 NIV) Have you ever experienced a Jekyll-and-Hyde existence where there are two warring opponents within? What is the answer to the question Paul poses in the verses above?
