The End Times According To Daniel ... Part Three, Chapters 10-12 - A Bible Study by Jack Kelley -
https://gracethrufaith.com/end-times-prophecy/the-end-times-according-to-daniel-part-three-chapters-10-12/ End Times According To Daniel In chapter 10, Daniel tells of a revelation he received during the third year of King Cyrus of Persia's reign. Remember, Cyrus had conquered Babylon in fulfillment of a prophecy God had given to Isaiah over 100 years earlier (Isaiah 44:24-45:7). Daniel's vision concerned a great war that was coming. It was still over 200 years away and would last nearly 200 years after that, and would pit the Seleucids against the Ptolemys. From our previous study we learned that Seleucus and Ptolemy were two of the four generals who assumed power upon the death of Alexander the Great and divided the Greek Empire among them. Seleucus took parts of what are now Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and later Iran and Iraq, while Ptolemy got Egypt, Israel, and Jordan. This vision troubled Daniel because he could see that Israel would be caught up in the ongoing battle between them. The Seleucids would be located on Israel's northern border, and the Ptolemys would be just to their south. The only way for either one to confront the other would be to march their armies through Israel. So he undertook a limited fast and began praying for understanding. Three weeks later an angel visited him and provided a more detailed explanation of the revelation. These details are contained in chapters 11 and 12 and have given historians enough information to document 135 historically fulfilled prophecies in the first 35 verses of chapter 11. This unparalleled display of predictive prophecy has caused the Book of Daniel to be carefully inspected by those hoping to find flaws in the prophecies, or clues that would justify their claim that Daniel is actually a book of history, written by someone else after the events it describes took place, rather than prophecy. But the only result of this inspection has been that Daniel is now thought to be the most thoroughly validated book in the entire Bible. We'll pick up the angel's explanation at the beginning of the era of the Kings of the South and North. Daniel 11 The Kings Of The South And The North "Now then, I tell you the truth: Three more kings will appear in Persia, and then a fourth, who will be far richer than all the others. When he has gained power by his wealth, he will stir up everyone against the kingdom of Greece. Then a mighty king will appear, who will rule with great power and do as he pleases. After he has appeared, his empire will be broken up and parceled out toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the power he exercised, because his empire will be uprooted and given to others. (Daniel 11:2-4) The three who would follow Cyrus as King of Persia were Cambyses (530-522 BC) Pseudo-Smerdis (522BC) and Darius 1 (522-486 BC). The fourth was Xerxes 1 (486-465 BC) who chose the young Jewish woman Esther to be his queen. Her story is told in the Book of Esther. 130 years after Xerxes, Alexander the Great defeated Persian King Darius III at the Battle of Guagamela, effectively conquering the Persian Empire. When Alexander died a few years later, his four commanding generals took over and the angel's description will now focus on the descendants of two of them. Those from the family of Seleucus are called "King of the North", and those of Ptolemy are "King of the South." Because this account can be verified in the historical record, and because the focus of this study is Daniel's End Times prophecies, I'll just insert the names of the central characters and dates of their reigns where applicable, and a note or two as we go along. This will give us a hint of the incredible accuracy of the prophecies in Daniel 11, and prepare us for the shift from what is now history to the end times prophecy which begins at verse 36. All dates are BC of course. "The king of the South (Ptolemy I Soter, 323-285) will become strong, but one of his commanders (Seleucus I Nicator, 311-280) will become even stronger than he and will rule his own kingdom (Babylon) with great power. After some years, they will become allies. The daughter of the king of the South (Berenice, daughter of Ptolemy II Philadelphus, 285-246) will go to the king of the North (Antiochus II Theos, 261-246) to make an alliance, but she will not retain her power, and he and his power will not last. In those days she will be handed over, together with her royal escort and her father and the one who supported her. (Antiochus left his wife Laodice for Berenice, but Laodice conspired to have Antiochus, Berenice, and her father Ptolemy II killed. The city of Laodicea in Rev. 3 is named after her.) (Daniel 11:5-6) "One from her family line will arise to take her place. (Berenice's brother Ptolemy III Euergetes, 246-221. He killed Laodice to avenge his sister and father.) He will attack the forces of the king of the North (Seleucus II Callinicus, 246-226) and enter his fortress; he will fight against them and be victorious. He will also seize their gods, their metal images and their valuable articles of silver and gold and carry them off to Egypt. For some years he will leave the king of the North alone. Then the king of the North will invade the realm of the king of the South but will retreat to his own country. His sons (Seleucus III Ceranus, 226-223 and Antiochus III, called the Great, 223-187) will prepare for war and assemble a great army, which will sweep on like an irresistible flood and carry the battle as far as his fortress. (Daniel 11:7-10) "Then the king of the South (Ptolemy IV Philopator, 221-203) will march out in a rage and fight against the king of the North (Antiochus the Great), who will raise a large army, but it will be defeated. (The Battle of Raphia in 217) When the army is carried off, the king of the South will be filled with pride and will slaughter many thousands (10,000 according to the historian Polybius), yet he will not remain triumphant. For the king of the North (still Antiochus) will muster another army, larger than the first; and after several years, he will advance with a huge army fully equipped. (Daniel 11:11-13) "In those times many will rise against the king of the South (Ptolemy V Epiphanes, 203-181). The violent men among your own people (Jews) will rebel in fulfillment of the vision, but without success. (Ptolemy's general Scopas crushed the rebellion in 200) Then the king of the North (still Antiochus the Great) will come and build up siege ramps and will capture a fortified city. The forces of the South will be powerless to resist; even their best troops will not have the strength to stand. The invader will do as he pleases; no one will be able to stand against him. He will establish himself in the Beautiful Land (Israel, captured from the King of the South in 197) and will have the power to destroy it. He will determine to come with the might of his entire kingdom and will make an alliance with the king of the South. And he will give him a daughter (Cleopatra I married Ptolemy V in 194) in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but his plans will not succeed or help him. (Don't confuse this Cleopatra with the later one, Cleopatra II, consort to both Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony) Then he will turn his attention to the coast lands and (teaming up with the famous Carthaginian General Hannibal) will take many of them, but a commander (Roman Consul Lucius Cornelius Scipio Asiaticus, with whom Cleopatra and Ptolemy had sided) will put an end to his insolence and will turn his insolence back upon him. After this, he will turn back toward the fortresses of his own country but will stumble and fall, to be seen no more. (Antiochus the Great died in battle in 187) (Daniel 11:14-19) "His successor (Seleucus IV Philopator) will send out a tax collector (Heliodorus) to maintain the royal splendor. In a few years, however, he will be destroyed, yet not in anger or in battle. (Heliodorus engineered a coup against him) "He will be succeeded by a contemptible person (Antiochus IV Epiphanes, 175-164) who has not been given the honor of royalty (Antiochus Epiphanes mounted a palace revolt against his young cousin and rightful heir Demetrius I). He will invade the kingdom (Israel) when its people feel secure, and he will seize it through intrigue. Then an overwhelming army will be swept away before him; both it and a prince of the covenant (Onias III, Israel's last legitimate High Priest, who was murdered in 170) will be destroyed. After coming to an agreement with him, he will act deceitfully, and with only a few people he will rise to power. When the richest provinces feel secure, he will invade them and will achieve what neither his fathers nor his forefathers did. He will distribute plunder, loot and wealth among his followers. He will plot the overthrow of fortresses-but only for a time. (Daniel 11:20-24) Antiochus conquered Israel and, for a time, Egypt. "With a large army he will stir up his strength and courage against the king of the South (Ptolemy VI). The king of the South will wage war with a large and very powerful army, but he will not be able to stand because of the plots devised against him. Those who eat from the king's provisions (Ptolemy's family) will try to destroy him; his army will be swept away, and many will fall in battle. The two kings (Antiochus and Ptolemy), with their hearts bent on evil, will sit at the same table and lie to each other, but to no avail, because an end will still come at the appointed time. The king of the North will return to his own country with great wealth, but his heart will be set against the holy covenant. He will take action against it and then return to his own country. (On his way back to Syria, Antiochus Epiphanes plundered the Temple in Jerusalem and killed many priests) (Daniel 11:25-28) "At the appointed time he will invade the South again, but this time the outcome will be different from what it was before. Ships of the western coast lands (Rome) will oppose him, and he will lose heart. Then he will turn back and vent his fury against the holy covenant. He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant. (Daniel 11:29-30) (As Antiochus stood in Egypt on the shore of the Mediterranean, the Roman Commander Popilius Laenas drew a circle around him in the sand, telling him that if he stepped out of the circle for any other reason than to surrender and go home, he would be killed. Humiliated and furious he took out his rage on the Jews, prompting the Maccabean revolt. This revolt actually lasted from 168-160, but people are most familiar with the period from 168-165 when the Temple was made desolate in history's clearest preview of the Great Tribulation. The purification of the temple is celebrated in the feast of Hanukkah which in 2013 began on Nov. 28.) "His armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation (168). With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him. (The Hasidim, who remained faithful to God, were the ancestors of today's Hasidic Jews. They are world renowned for their trade in diamonds) (Daniel 11:31-32) "Those who are wise will instruct many, though for a time they will fall by the sword or be burned or captured or plundered. When they fall, they will receive a little help, and many who are not sincere will join them. (The Maccabeans, who defeated Antiochus, cleansed the Temple and restored Jewish autonomy, setting up the Hasmonean Dynasty that ruled Israel for about 100 years until the Romans came.) Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time. (Daniel 11:33-35) The King Who Exalts Himself "The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place. He will show no regard for the god(s) of his fathers or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his fathers he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts. He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price. (Daniel 11:36-39) With verse 36 we've shifted from history to prophecy and are in the middle of Daniel's 70th Week, at the beginning of the Great Tribulation. We're now discussing the man of whom Antiochus Epiphanes is our clearest model, the anti-Christ, called "the king" here. Note the similarity between this passage and 2 Thes. 2:4, He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God. The anti-Christ will appear to be victorious for most of his time in command, because God has determined that Daniel's 70th week will play out. He won't fear God the Father at all, intending instead to replace Him. Nor will he fear the Son. It was the dream of every Jewish woman to be the mother of the Messiah, so the phrase "the one desired by women" refers to Jesus. And as Paul wrote, he'll place himself above everything that's called God. He'll honor a foreign god, a god of fortresses, with much silver and gold. Since he'll exalt himself above everything called god, and even proclaim himself to be God, I think this god of fortresses will be his military might, purchased at great cost and sufficient to overpower even the most obstinate resistance. At the same time, he'll reward those loyal to him with great wealth, power and land. This is the ultimate carrot and stick strategy. "At the time of the end the king of the South will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships. He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood. He will also invade the Beautiful Land. Many countries will fall, but Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand. He will extend his power over many countries; Egypt will not escape. He will gain control of the treasures of gold and silver and all the riches of Egypt, with the Libyans and Nubians in submission. But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many. He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at the beautiful holy mountain. Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him. (Daniel 11:40-45) Although Antiochus Epiphanes, who modeled him, was a King of the North the anti-Christ is not. We know this because the Kings of the South and the North both come against him here. Some say we have to find a new King of the North for this passage and suggest Russia, but I think the model has been too firmly established in the previous verses to justify changing without notice. No, I believe the end times remnants of the Seleucid and Ptolemaic Empires will attempt to re-assert their historic dominance over the Middle East. This will likely come in the form of non-Arab Muslims, the King of the North, contending with Arab Muslims, the King of the South, for control of the Muslim world. The anti-Christ will defeat them both and move his headquarters to Israel exercising control from there over a world that seems to exclude only an area of the Jordanian desert called Petra (aka Bosrah in Isaiah 63), where the faithful remnant of Israel awaits the return of Earth's legitimate King. (Rev. 12:14) But then the coalition of victors from the wars recently fought east of the Euphrates, sensing that his control is not yet absolute, will begin their march to Armageddon intent upon capturing the Middle East and all its wealth for themselves. Not even the devil himself can keep man from acting on his greed, and as the anti-Christ sees this enormous army swooping down from the East and North, he goes after them in a rage. Those of you who followed our Revelation study will recall that in Rev. 9, we saw a great war among the powers of the Far East for dominance over that region. Then in Rev. 16 the River Euphrates was dried up to permit the victors in this war to team up and cross into the Middle East, intent upon conquest there. This is the report from the East and North that Daniel's describing. Remember the King of the North has just been defeated, so reports of troop movement from the North must be someone else. Perhaps this is the Chinese -Russian alliance the world has long feared. Daniel 12 The End Times "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people-everyone whose name is found written in the book-will be delivered. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge." (Daniel 12:1-4) From Matt. 24:21, where the same wording appears, we can confirm that this is the Great Tribulation. During this time Daniel's people, the believing remnant of Israel, will be protected in the Jordanian desert, awaiting their deliverance by the Messiah. At the time of the Messiah's return to save them and set up His Kingdom, the faithful of Israel's past will be resurrected to receive the promise they died believing, that God would one day send a redeemer to pay for their sins so that He could dwell with them forever. 1000 years later the unbelievers will also awake, but to shame and everlasting contempt, in the Great White Throne judgment of Rev. 20:11-15. Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank. One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?" The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, "It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed." (Daniel 12:5-7) The Hebrew phrase time, times and half a time stands for one year plus two years plus half a year. The Great Tribulation will last for 3 ½ years, the time required to break the Jewish people of their human pride and soften their hearts to receive the King who has waited so long for them to accept Him. According to Zechariah 12:10, this will happen near the end of the Great Tribulation. I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, "My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?" He replied, "Go your way, Daniel, because the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand. "From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. "As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance." (Daniel 12:8-13) Unlike John, who was told not to seal up the words he'd written (Rev. 22:10), Daniel learned that he'd received all the detail God was prepared to give him at that time. The prophecy was for the End of the Age. The angel told him that none of the wicked would ever understand it, but one day those who are wise would figure it out. Then he threw out two numbers that, as far as I'm concerned, not even the wise have a clear understanding of yet. I've read dozens of interpretations of the 1290 days and the 1335 days, and none is persuasive, at least to me. Some of them arbitrarily use the year for a day concept, others add the 1290 and the 1335 together, and still others insert the Hebrew inter-calary 13th month to explain the difference between the clear 1260 day duration of the Great Tribulation and the 1290 number given here. The most forthright admit to indulging in pure speculation. Personally, I think these two numbers are like the 7 thunders of Rev. 10 and the 666 of Rev. 13. God has not yet disclosed their true meaning to man, perhaps because doing so would reveal too much about the End Times and alert the enemy prematurely. And notice that they were given to Daniel after he was told that the wise would one day understand this prophecy. To me it looks like the angel's promise didn't include the 1290 and 1335 days. But I can speculate with the best of them, so here goes. If I'm wrong and the meaning of these two numbers is not one of the Lord's remaining secrets, then the explanation may be so simple we've gone right by it. For example, several times we've been told that there are 1260 days from the Abomination of Desolation to the end of the Great Tribulation. Immediately after that, those who've survived it will see the sun and moon darken and the stars fall. Then they'll see the sign of the Son of man, and finally the Lord Himself will appear in the sky. (Matt. 24:29-30) It all sounds pretty clear. But then four times in the span of 28 verses Jesus said that those on Earth wouldn't know the day or hour of His return to them in advance. (Matt. 24:36-37, 42-44, 50-51, 25:13) If He appears in the sky on Rosh Hashanah, as I believe, and if His first official act is one of judgment, as Matt. 25:31 seems to say, then perhaps this judgment will begin on Yom Kippur, 10 days after Rosh Hashanah. You may ask how I can believe the Lord will return on Rosh Hashanah when it's a Jewish Feast Day and the first day of their New Year? Remember, the Lord repeatedly said that no one would know the day or hour of His return. Even this Holy Day's other name (The Day That No Man Knows) doesn't resolve the issue, because the Jews would be expecting the day, and looking for the new moon that signals its arrival. At most they would only be off by a couple of days. Then I put together two other pieces of information and they settled it for me. The first one is from Daniel 7:25. It says the anti Christ will try to change the set times and the laws. To me that means he'll abolish all reference to the Holy Days and their observance so except for the Jewish remnant hiding in Petra, the world won't know anything about the nearness of Rosh Hashanah as the time for the 2nd Coming approaches. And the second is from Matt. 24:29 which says that immediately after the Great Tribulation the sun will be darkened and the Moon will not give its light. That means even those few Jews who are still observing the Holy Days won't be able to tell when Rosh Hashanah arrives because the moon will be completely dark. That means no one on Earth will know the day and hour of His return, even if it is Rosh Hashanah. So the judgment could begin 10 days later on Yom Kippur. Suppose that 20 days are then consumed in judging Israel (Matt. 19:28) and the Gentiles, (Matt. 25:31-46) and cleansing the defiled Temple making it fit for use again. (By now you know I'm convinced that the same Temple used during Daniel's 70th week will be used in the Millennium. If not, read my study called "The Coming Temple".) This scenario would make it 1290 days from the Abomination of Desolation to the re-dedication of the cleansed Temple, consistent with the view held by some that the 1290 day period pertains to the Temple's desolation, not the Lord's return. But then come 45 more days for a total of 1335. I suggest that this time may be necessary to set up the Kingdom. There's a lot that needs to be done, like crowning the Prince of Israel, organizing the priesthood behind the family of Zadok and teaching them their new duties, especially concerning the new cycle of Holy days (Ezek. 44-46) positioning the New Jerusalem in its orbit abound Earth (Rev. 21:2), reassigning the Tribal allotments in Israel (Ezek, 45 & 48) and installing the governments of the Nations. If things unfold as I've described them, and it's a big "if", then 1335 days from the Abomination, the Millennial Kingdom will be officially inaugurated. Those who have both waited for and actually reached that day will be truly blessed, because they will have been eyewitnesses to the most amazing time in human history, and at its conclusion will have found themselves among the victors, poised to experience the fulfillment of all their dreams. It will be a celebration such as has never before been seen on Earth. If you listen carefully, you can almost hear the footsteps of the Messiah. The Grim Cost of the "Oslo War" - by Guy Millière - https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12999/oslo-war September 13, 1993. Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat shook hands on the lawn of the White House. They have just officially signed the document that was supposed to start Peace: the Oslo Accord. The cogs of this machine began their work. Overnight, Yasser Arafat was no longer the leader of a defeated terrorist organization. He had suddenly become the President of a quasi-state; his Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) had been transformed into the "Palestinian Authority". Terror attacks against Israelis attacks during this "peace" grew even more bloody and more profuse, and soon were being perpetrated at a frantic pace. Some deliberately targeted children and youths, such as the Dolphinarium discotheque massacre and the Sbarro restaurant suicide bombing. Arafat condemned none of them. In September 2000, the Palestinian Authority launched a full scale guerrilla war that lasted four years and killed more than 1,000 Israelis. It soon became clear that Arafat was not going to give up being a mass murderer. His successor, Mahmoud Abbas, was no better. Murders of Jews did not stop. Israel finally decided to build a security barrier. Palestinian leaders continued untiringly to make demands that no country could satisfy without committing suicide. These included retreating to indefensible 1949 armistice lines and allowing into Israel millions of people sworn to the Jews' destruction: While it is true that Hamas is expert at getting innocent Palestinians killed, it has made it very plain, in word and deed, that it would rather kill Jews. The following blood-freezing statement is from the group's charter: "The Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realization of Allah's promise, no matter how long that should take. The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: 'The day of judgment will not come until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jews will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say 'O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him." This is a frank and open call for genocide, embedded in one of the most thoroughly anti-Semitic documents you'll read this side of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Not many people seem to know that Hamas's founding document is genocidal. Israel, meanwhile, was constantly summoned to negotiate and make ever more concessions. And make concessions it did. In 2005, Israel forcibly and unconditionally evacuated every last Jew from the entire Gaza Strip -- a move that resulted in Hamas swiftly seizing power there. Israel also offered, in a plan proposed by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in 2008, to abandon the eastern half of Jerusalem, and almost totally to withdraw from the West Bank and the Jordan Valley -- a move that led to the breakdown of negotiations by the Palestinian side. Even so, Israel continued to be defined internationally as the guilty party. Although the Palestinian Authority never hid that it was still the same old genocidal PLO, it steadily gained widespread recognition: many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and even the Holy See, recognize a "Palestinian state" that simply does not exist. "Palestine" obtained a seat at the UNESCO, was granted a Permanent Observer status at the United Nations. Despite the fact that a large part of the foreign subsidies given to the Palestinian Authority were being used to reward terrorism and finance incitement to anti-Jewish hatred, foreign subsidies increased. Palestinian propaganda gained ground internationally, and even in Israel. A growing number of Israeli Arabs became radicalized; some committed attacks. Extremist organizations that had been established in Israel, but financed from abroad in the name of "peace," showed their true colors as openly hostile to the existence of Israel. The recent passing of a law that defines Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, and stipulates what has been in evidence since the founding of Israel in 1948 (the Declaration of Independence does not exclude anyone and speaks of the "development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants"; it also explicitly speaks of the "natural right of the Jewish people to be, like all other nations, master of their destiny on the soil of their own sovereign state") led some of these organizations to try to provoke anti-Israel anger among the Druze minority and to organize protests in Tel Aviv. Twenty-five years after Oslo, the balance sheet is more like what, in 2003, the historian Efraim Karsh, commenting on the Rabin-Arafat handshake, called the start the "Oslo war". In this war, he wrote, Israel had conceded from the beginning a major victory to its worst enemies by giving them a respectability they did not deserve, and thus placed itself in a losing position from which it never fully recovered. In a comprehensive study published in 2016, he reasserted his analysis and said that the 1993 handshake and the document signed then had been the "starkest strategic blunder in Israel's history". In January 2017, the historian Daniel Pipes, founder and president of the Middle East Forum, explained in detail the urgent need of a deep change in Israel's behavior before it would be too late. The Palestinian population, he stressed, is imbued with a "genocidal obsession towards Israel." He emphasized that: "Contrary to Rabin's slogan, one does not 'make [peace] with very unsavory enemies' but rather with former very unsavory enemies. That is, enemies that have been defeated... "...Wars end, the historical record shows, not through goodwill but through defeat. He who does not win loses. Wars usually end when failure causes one side to despair, when that side has abandoned its war aims and accepted defeat, and when that defeat has exhausted its will to fight. Conversely, so long as both combatants still hope to achieve their war objectives, fighting either goes on or it potentially will resume." In 2003, Joel Fishman, a Fellow of the Jerusalem Center of Public Affairs, wrote that, before any further action concerning the Palestinian issue, the Israeli government would have to stop treating the Palestinian Authority (PA) as what it is not and start treating it as what it is and has never ceased to be: a terrorist organization - and one that should be treated as such. The U.S. and Israeli governments are now going in that direction. On March 6, 2018, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Abbas must "stop paying terrorists to murder Jews". The statement not only amounted to designating Abbas as a terrorist leader; it also reminded the public that money incentivizes murder. A few weeks ago, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman noted that Abbas "pays NIS 100 million ($27 million) in salaries to terrorists and murderers" and added "a clear message: No more". Those who support the Palestinian Authority are supporting terrorism. One can only conclude that in doing so, they have shown themselves as enemies of Israel. Saying that to some governments might be unpopular, but less so non-governmental organizations (NGOs). NGO Monitor was founded in 2002 to counter organizations that use the appearance of "defending human rights" to support often harmful goals. In July 2016, the Knesset passed a law demanding that NGOs receiving more than half of their funding from abroad indicate it in their financial reports and disclose the fact in advertising and publicity, and while lobbying officials. How would you like it if more than half of the funding to shape the policies of your country were coming, undisclosed, from openly hostile nations? Another task that needs urgent attention is exposing, refuting and rejecting the falsifications of history that the PA and its supporters proliferate. The Israeli government's decision to withdraw from the UNESCO after a vote that falsely denied the Jewish connection to Jerusalem's Temple Mount and Western Wall was essential and overdue. When Prime Minister Netanyahu refers to the West Bank, he speaks only of Judea and Samaria, states that Judea is named precisely for the Jews' presence there thousands of years ago, and explains that expelling Jews from Judea and Samaria should be called by its name: ethnic cleansing. In a March 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw, PLO leader Zuheir Mohsen stated: "The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality, today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct Palestinian people to oppose Zionism." The same fact was reconfirmed in a video posted by the invaluable resource MEMRI: a Hamas minister of the interior in 2012 states that Palestinians are "just Saudis and Egyptians." For eight years, the Obama administration took positions to undermine Israel. Those policies culminated with the December 23, 2016 decision not to veto a UN resolution that demanded the return of Israel to "1967 borders", in reality not borders at all but just an armistice line. The policies also defined "East Jerusalem" and the Old City as "occupied Palestinian territory". President Trump on the other hand recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on May 14 and by those moves took Jerusalem off the negotiating table. Guatemala helpfully followed by moving its embassy to Jerusalem, too. When President Trump asked Palestinian leaders to stop paying stipends to terrorists imprisoned in Israel, and to the families of dead terrorists, and the Palestinians refused, he cut more than $200 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority. President Trump's administration also regarded extending "refugee" status to millions of descendants of the approximately 500,000 original Arab refugees as unjustifiable. According to a classified State Department document, only 30,000 of the original refugees remain today. So the president cut all outstanding funding, roughly $300 million, to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He added that UNRWA had been "vulnerable to misappropriation and corruption" and that it aggravated the problem instead of contributing to solving it. On September 9, he also decided to freeze $25 million in funding to Palestinian hospitals in Jerusalem for refusing to participate in peace efforts, and on September 10, he decided to close the Palestinian delegation's office in Washington D.C. The Sunni Arab regimes know that Israel could be their greatest ally against the Iranian threat in the region. Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman, said in New York in April that Palestinians will have to "accept the proposals made by the Trump administration or keep quiet". On August 12, Walid Sadi, a former Jordanian diplomat, wrote in the Jordan Times (a newspaper that depends directly on the kingdom's government) that the Palestinian Authority must "resign itself to an imperfect solution". The statement should lead one to reflect on what, in the Palestinian Authority's view, the perfect solution would be. Israel has always been facing the unrelenting hostility of the European Union, France and Germany, which today are among the most ardent supporters of the corrupted "Palestinian cause". The Israeli government knows it has nothing to expect from them, except being undermined. In July 2016, Mahmoud Abbas, after making openly anti-Semitic remarks in the European Parliament, received a standing ovation. In July 2017, Emmanuel Macron kissed Abbas and with a straight face thanked him for his "tireless work in favor of non-violence". In April 2018, Hams leader Ismail Haniyeh was on the cover of one of the main French news magazines, Paris Match, and that several pages of the magazine were dedicated to a hagiography of a man who can only be described as an anti-Semitic murderer. In April 2017, while on a diplomatic trip to Israel, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel met with groups that slander Israeli soldiers as "war criminals". The European Union, France and Germany will apparently not stop funding the Palestinian Authority and dozens of radical anti-Israel organizations, and are doing everything they can to save the "Iranian nuclear deal" and the mullahs' regime. The number of Israelis who think that a peace agreement is possible is dwindling. The number of Israelis who think that no additional concessions should be made is growing. The number of Palestinian Arabs supporting terrorist attacks is also growing. In a recent survey ranking countries on the basis of their alliances, influence and leadership, Israel, despite its small size, was ranked the eighth most powerful country in the world. Hamas, a crumbling terrorist entity, has been trying to make the brutally governed population of the Gaza strip into a horde of bloodthirsty fanatics. The Palestinian Authority is a corruption-ridden autocracy that survives only thanks to massive aid, mostly from the gullible West - a bribe that not only has failed to work, but, as in most extortion, has only led to further demands for more money with no noticeable change in behavior. It is has been truly tragic that the people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank have been held hostage for so long by Palestinians leaders who feed them on a dream, impede their progress and lead them to incite against Israel to seek its destruction. In February 2017, US Ambassador John Bolton, now President Trump's National Security Advisor, said he did not see any viable institutions on the "Palestinian" side and added that he thought the best option could be a "three-state solution", whereby Gaza would join Egypt, and a part of the West Bank would join Jordan. The Israeli government did not disagree. News from Hal Lindsey Media Ministries - Hal Lindsey - www.hallindsey.com In Matthew 24:12, Jesus prophesied that in the time leading up to His return, "Lawlessness will abound." (NKJV) Humanity is sick with sin. Sin makes law necessary. Law provides the stability needed for man to build civilization. The Apostle Paul explained the purpose of law to Timothy in his first letter to him. In I Timothy 1:8-9, Paul writes, "We know that Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane." (NASB) The letter to the Romans describes the lawlessness of a civilization on its last legs. It says, "Although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them." (Romans 1:32 NASB) Where does it all lead? To the Antichrist. 2 Thessalonians 2:8 calls the Antichrist, "the lawless one." (NKJV) Now, lawlessness can refer to breaking the laws of God. It can also refer to breaking the laws of man. It can even mean holding the law itself in low regard. That's what I thought about when I read recently about the Democrat Party's nominee for District Attorney in Boston and Suffolk County, Massachusetts. In her campaign, Ms. Rachael Rollins proposed a list of several crimes that, if elected, she will "decline to prosecute." She told Tucker Carlson of Fox News that "we are spending too much time on petty crimes that are clogging up our system and costing us more money." They include shoplifting, trespassing, larceny under $250, disorderly conduct, receiving stolen property, wanton or malicious destruction of property, breaking and entering vacant properties, threats (except domestic violence), drug possession, and drug possession with intent to distribute. And the list continues. I dare say these crimes are only "petty" if they happen to someone else, not to you. To me, this sounds like the recipe for an explosion of "petty crime." Oh, I overlooked a critical charge she will "decline to prosecute": resisting arrest. That will make it "open season" on cops. This is not a fringe candidate. This is the Democrat Party nominee in very liberal Boston. Chances are good that she will be the next Boston DA. So Ms. Rollins is proposing a pathway to an explosion of crime, yet she is not going to prosecute criminals who resist being arrested for those crimes. I don't think I would want to be a law enforcement officer in Suffolk County, Massachusetts after the November elections. There's another word for what I'm describing: chaos. When law and order break down, people grow fearful. Lawlessness leads to fear. Fear leads to an urgent desire for security. An urgent desire for security will eventually lead to the fascist government of the Antichrist. A couple of weeks ago, I told you about the young, idealistic American couple who were bicycling their way around the world. Before they started their journey, the young man, Jay Austin had written online that, "Evil is a make-believe concept." Sadly, he and his girlfriend discovered that it isn't so. Evil is real. They were brutally murdered in Tajikistan by a group of young men who were inspired by ISIS. Many reject Christ because they don't believe evil is real. If there is no evil, there is no such thing as "sin." If there's no "sin," there is no eternal punishment for that sin. If there is no eternal punishment for sin, then who needs God's grace to escape that punishment? Satan's goal is to convince the world that there is no Creator, therefore, there is no absolute right and wrong. Once the world believes that, lawlessness will rule the day. And the "man of lawlessness" will rule the day, too. Little by little, we are drawing closer and closer to that day. You've heard me say before that I think the "mark of the beast" described in Revelation 13 may well be a microchip implanted in the hand or the forehead. The chip could easily contain a numeric prefix issued by the Antichrist's government to all who comply. The presence of that number would confirm the chip bearer's acceptable status with the government. In describing this mark, Revelation 13:17 mentions that only those who have the government's approved "mark" would be able to buy or sell. Sweden is taking a giant step in that direction. Business Insider reports, "Thousands of Swedes are having microchips implanted into their bodies so that they don't need to carry key cards, IDs, and even train tickets." In fact, Sweden's national railway line can now scan passengers' hands to collect their fares. Last year, I reported on a company in Wisconsin where several dozen employees accepted implanted chips in order to buy snacks, log on to computers, and run the photocopier. That's just for the convenience of it. But the arguments for accepting the microchip implant can be far more persuasive than mere convenience. In the future, implanted microchips could replace your car keys, your house keys, and your office key card. They will carry your driver's license, Social Security card, and passport. Because they will be tied to your bank account, you will be able to walk into a store, pick up the things you want, and walk out. The scanners will identify your purchases and deduct the cost from your account. Checkout lines may soon be a thing of the past. But there are still more compelling arguments for an implanted RFID chip. If an accident leaves you unconscious, first responders will have instant access to your entire medical history simply by scanning your chip. They will know immediately what medications you are allergic to. They will be able to monitor what's happening inside your body, like blood oxygen levels, heart rate, glucose levels, and temperature. Chips will be able to communicate critical information with life-saving speed. We already have the technology to put those sensors on a chip. Embedded chips could also make things much easier for law enforcement. Requiring a chip to board public transportation will help police track and catch fugitives and potential threats. It may help prevent terrorist attacks on subways and airlines. RFID chips may also help prevent drunken driving deaths. If the chip in the drunk driver's hand tells the computer in his car that he's had too much to drink, the car's computer will not allow the car to start. Hannes Sjoblad is a member of the Digital Biology faculty of Singularity University Nordics. He says, "We are updating our bodies with technology on a large scale already with wearables. But all of the wearables we wear today will be implantable in five to 10 years. Who wants to carry a clumsy smartphone or smartwatch when you can have it in your fingernail? I think that is direction where it is heading." The point is, by the time the "mark of the beast" is imposed on the public, people will be accustomed to such things. We are already willing to trade our privacy for convenience. It will all seem so logical and responsible. "Mark of the beast" technology will offer the promise of convenience, security, and health. Just as the Bible warns. What will be people be willing to trade for that? Their souls. Also on this week's program, I'll discuss the recent birth of a "red heifer" in Israel. Ancient Jewish tradition says there have been nine red heifers in all of history that have been sacrificed in the purification ceremonies of the Temple. Breaking Israel News says, "According the Jewish tradition, there will only be ten red heifers in human history with the tenth heifer ushering in the Messianic era." London's Mirror newspaper reported on the latest red heifer born just two weeks ago, "A Bible prophecy has been realized as the first 'red heifer in 2000 years' was born in Israel." In the New Testament, God does not require the slaughter of animals. But religious Jews who have not accepted Jesus as the Messiah still believe they need a red heifer as an integral part of the Temple system. That's why they believe that when a red heifer is needed, one will appear. And that is why so many of them are so excited today. Folks, if you haven't noticed before, we live in amazing times! What a privilege it is to be alive in these days and see the ancient prophesies being fulfilled almost daily. That means the return of Jesus Christ to snatch away His church is close! It could happen at any time. Get ready! Don't miss this week's Report on TBN, Daystar, CPM Network, various local stations, www.hallindsey.com or www.hischannel.com . God Says What He Means And Means What He Says - By Grant Phillips - https://www.raptureready.com/2018/09/12/god-says-means-means-says-grant-phillips/ "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6) "Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. "For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:6-11) "Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near." (Revelation 1:3) "And he said to me, "Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand." (Revelation 22:10) These are only a minuscule sampling of the Word of God declaring the authenticity of God's right to say, "This is the way it is, period." Only God can declare a 'command' as opposed to a 'suggestion.' God's statements are very definitive. He leaves no room for opposing thought. There is no doubt in His position as God. Most people in this world today, even those who 'profess' Christ, disregard the clear and irrevocable Words of God. They want to 'make a deal' with God, or twist His Words to cover their sins. Another large crowd, among our 21st century 'wise men' declare, "There is no God!" God says, "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good." (Psalm 14:1), (also found in Psalm 53:1) This 21st century society is so far from God there is not much remaining for us but severe judgment, and it is coming (the Tribulation for those without Christ). Those who love God and respect His Word see this and cringe as the evils of our society worsen by the day. Dr. J Vernon McGee commented once concerning how much our society has fallen away from God into sin. He died 30 years ago. If he could only see us now. If any of those who have died before us could see what we have become today, they would be shocked. All the 'brilliant' ideas our leaders, both political and religious, have forced upon us have not improved us one whit. Instead, we keep sinking further into the bottomless pit of corruption. One simple thing has caused our demise, and that is our refusal to listen to Almighty God. Even for those who are not Christians, they too need to listen to God. He is not their Father, but He is their Creator, and He means exactly what He says. God says there is only one way to be saved, and that is through Jesus Christ. He says we will become exactly what we have become prior to judgment. He says Jesus will return at any time and remove His own, then judge the world. Is anyone listening? Very, very few are hearing anything He has to say. God is long-suffering, but He will not allow our obstinacy to continue indefinitely. One segment of our society that is causing much damage is those who think they are Christian, but are not. They are religious, but they are not Christian. These wolves in sheep's clothing rape children, have illicit sexual affairs, support and commit homosexuality, deny critical issues concerning Jesus Christ, etc. The lost world watches this religious crowd, considers them to be Christians, and sees that there is no difference between them. Then when they look at true Christians who will not compromise what God says, we are considered troublemakers. Another segment of our society that is causing much damage is true Christians who are weak in the faith. They need to grow up. Most Christians do not communicate with God daily through Bible study and prayer. Oh, but when they have a need, here they come pleading for help! Every true Christian should be standing up for the Truth, instead of sitting quietly in the fetal position way, way back in the corner. We should cry out to our God as did Isaiah. "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me." (Isaiah 6:8) However, when we are listening to man instead of God how can we really know what God is saying? Most Christians rely on the man behind the pulpit to tell them what God is saying. Look folks, Moses is in Heaven. He isn't behind your pulpit. He is not down here speaking for God today, and he doesn't need to. Now why is that? The Israelites did not have a Bible, so God spoke to them through Moses for a while. We have the entire written Word of God. It is called the Bible. This is where we hear the Truth. I venture to make a prediction. If every true Christian would do as the Bereans did, most would be very surprised at the conflict coming from the pulpit and what the Bible actually says. "And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." (Acts 17:10-11) We need to know what God says, and we need to believe it, no matter if it conflicts with what we have been taught for years and no matter if it conflicts with our opinions. Forget what man says. Forget what we 'think.' Accept what God says. He says what He means, and means what He says. It's all in His Word, the Bible. Grant Phillips Email: [email protected] Pre-Rapture Commentary: http://grant-phillips.blogspot.com Rapture Ready: http://www.raptureready.com/featured/phillips/phillips.html ATTENTION! My email address has changed to [email protected] Daily Jot: Setting the record straight on Benghazi - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com On Friday, September 7, the immediate past president gave a speech at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he used misrepresentations and propaganda to try to rewrite the history of his presidency. One of those misrepresentations was his remarks on his actions regarding Benghazi, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including US Ambassador Christopher Stevens. The ex-president ran down a list blaming Republicans and the Republican congress for the ills of the country, among them, he said Republicans, "Embraced wild conspiracy theories, like those surrounding Benghazi, or my birth certificate." While many believe his birth certificate is still unsettled, Benghazi is not. Remember Benghazi? The Daily Jot covered Benghazi extensively. As a reminder for you to use in conversations about the incident, here are excerpts from October 11, 2012's Daily Jot: "The occupant of the Oval Office and all his minions have been caught in the Great Benghazi Lie. It started with a carefully woven story that protesters stormed our Embassy in Libya, killed our Ambassador and three other Americans because they were upset over a film questioning the character of the "Prophet Mohammed." As the truth now comes out, there was no protest, the area outside the embassy was calm until it was attacked by terrorists... The Administration, including the president, the Secretary of State, the UN Ambassador and others have been lying to us. "The New York Times has been documenting the statements made by Administration officials since the initial attack. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the day after the attack (9/12): "Some have thought to justify this vicious behavior along with the protests that took place at our embassy in Cairo yesterday as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet." White House Press Secretary Jay Carney eight days after the attack (9/19): "Based on the information that we had at the time and have to this day, we do not have evidence that it was premeditated." That very day the director of the National Counterterrorism Center said, "Yes, they were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy." He suspected al Qaeda. "14 days after the attack, the president still blamed the embassy killings on the anti-Mohammed video. He told the United Nations: "In every country, there are those who find different religious beliefs threatening; in every culture, those who love freedom for themselves must ask themselves how much they're willing to tolerate freedom for others. That is what we saw play out in the last two weeks, as a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. Now, I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video, and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common humanity." He was speaking specifically about the killings in Libya. "While the president says that the US had nothing to do with the video, he and his administration is complicit in lying to the American public about not only how our Ambassador was killed, but why and by whom--even to the fabrication of minute details of protests getting out of hand. The entire news media wrote what this administration said as fact. Now all Americans are finding out the president's story was not remotely true. How much more is a lie? When will people be outraged by these dealings? 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Even so, the news media is barely holding anyone accountable. Deception is widespread. Discernment is needed." How soon the truth of events reported in the past is forgotten when the media refuses to correct the lies of the present. Daily Devotion: Revival in Our Time? - By Greg Laurie - www.harvest.org For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. -Psalm 84:11 I can remember situations in my life where things were looking rather bleak. But then I called on the name of the Lord, and He intervened. Here in our nation, things are looking rather bleak. But God says, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV). God is saying, in effect, "Check this out. Call on Me, and watch what I will do. Pray right now. Follow My prescription for revival. Watch how I will intervene." It is God's desire to bless us. And did you know that God wants to bless us even more than we want to be blessed? Psalm 84:11 (NKJV) tells us, "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly." Often the reason we pray is because we have a need-we have a crisis. We need a healing . . . we need direction . . . we need financial provision. We pray because we are in trouble. It is not as though God simply gives us everything we have ever wanted and our lives are free of problems or conflicts. Rather, God will allow conflict in our lives so we will see our own weakness and then see the greatness of God as we depend on Him. I don't believe the ultimate need of our nation will be solved by a new occupant in the White House or by new members of Congress. I believe the real need for America will be met by a spiritual solution. Therefore, we need to pray. FROM THE HEART
