Turkey Breaks from the West - By Britt Gillette -
In July, Turkey announced its plan to move forward with the purchase of a Russian S-400 air defense system. In response, the U.S. expelled Turkey from the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, cancelling their previous order of 100 F-35s. Furthermore, Turkey's announcement opened the door for more penalties under a 2017 act that calls for sanctions on any nation that buys a major defense article from Russia. Currently, relations remain strained as the two nations work to find a resolution. But far from an isolated incident, this is just the latest dispute between the United States and Turkey. The relationship between these two countries has been volatile for several years now. But this wasn't always the case. Up until a few years ago, Turkey was a reliable ally for the U.S., Israel, and NATO.
Following World War I and the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk led a Turkish War of Independence. When the war ended, the victors established the Republic of Turkey in 1923. Ataturk served as the new nation's first president. He oversaw numerous reforms to modernize Turkey. He established a secular western democracy and made the nation a model democratic republic in the Middle East. In 1949, Turkey became the first Muslim majority nation to recognize Israel. In 1952, it joined NATO. For the latter part of the 20th Century, Turkey was a strong ally of Israel, the U.S., and other western nations. As the 21st Century dawned, Turkey explored membership in the European Union. This would have further solidified the nation's western ties. Instead, an event took place that reshaped the future of Turkey.
A New Direction for Turkey
In 2003, Turkey elected Recep Tayyip Erdogan as prime minister. A former member of a banned Islamist political party, Erdogan's administration has been hostile toward Turkey's secular and democratic institutions. Under Erdogan, Turkey has turned from its traditional western allies and cultivated relationships with nations that oppose western democracy. In July 2016, Erdogan cracked down on his political opponents following what he claimed was a coup attempt. He imprisoned thousands of citizens and consolidated his grip on power. A 2017 referendum further extended that power. Now the president, Erdogan is the undisputed ruler of Turkey. The nation, once hailed as a model of freedom and democracy in the Muslim world, has quickly devolved into a totalitarian regime eager to befriend America's enemies.
What's Happened Under Erdoğan
To see the drastic changes brought about under Erdogan's rule, one need look no further than the current state of U.S.-Turkish relations. The recent dispute over the Russian S-400 air defense system is only the latest point of contention. In recent years, we've seen a long list of such developments under Erdogan. The list includes, but is not limited to:
In July 2016, Erdogan jailed thousands of political opponents following a failed coup against his regime.
That same year, without evidence, Turkey accused the U.S. of harboring a Turkish cleric (Fethullah Gulen) whom they say orchestrated the failed coup.
In 2017, Turkey jailed three Turkish citizens who worked for the U.S. State Department under accusations they helped orchestrate the 2016 coup.
In May 2017, seven bodyguards for Erdogan beat up protesters in Washington, DC.
In October 2017, the two countries announced the mutual suspension of non-immigrant visa services.
In October 2017, a Turkish court convicted a Wall Street Journal reporter and sentenced her to 25 months in prison for publishing an article they deemed "propaganda."
In September 2018, Turkey met the leaders of Russia and Iran in Tehran to discuss the future of Syria.
In October 2018, Turkey released American pastor Andrew Brunson after holding him hostage for two years.
In February 2019, Turkey met the leaders of Russia and Iran in Sochi to coordinate joint military plans in Syria.
To any objective observer, it's clear Turkey has drifted away from its western democratic ties and into the arms of nations like Russia and Iran who are hostile to the west. Making matters worse, the U.S. allied itself with Turkey's longtime enemy, the Kurds. Since war erupted in Syria in 2011, Kurdish forces have come to control large areas of Syrian territory, including areas along the Turkish border. This poses a threat to Turkey and puts them in direct conflict with the United States, further straining U.S.-Turkish relations.
Why This Matters
So why should you care? Aside from diminishing freedom and liberty for Turkey's citizens, these events have enormous prophetic significance. Why? Because Turkey is a key member of the Gog of Magog alliance. Six centuries before the crucifixion of Jesus, Ezekiel foretold of a future invasion of Israel (Ezekiel 38-39). He said it will occur in the last days (Ezekiel 38:16). It will come from north of Israel (Ezekiel 38:15; Ezekiel 39:2), and it will involve a coalition of nations led by Russia (Ezekiel 38:2). The nations Ezekiel cited include:
Rosh = Russia
Magog = Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan
Persia = Iran
Cush = Sudan
Put = Libya
Meshech, Tubal, Gomer, and Beth-togarmah = Turkey
For years, those who study Bible prophecy have wondered how Turkey fits into this alliance. After all, Turkey is a longtime ally of Israel. Also, as a member of NATO, the idea of Turkey joining a Russian invasion of Israel is hard for many to imagine. In 2014, I noted in my book Signs of the Second Coming:
"Turkey is another interesting member of this military alliance. Since the restoration of Israel in 1948, those who understand Bible prophecy have struggled to figure out how Turkey fits in. Why? Because in 1949, Turkey became the first Muslim majority country to officially recognize the state of Israel. Turkey and Israel have a long history of diplomatic, economic, and military cooperation. Turkey is also a member of NATO. And what is the purpose of NATO? Its purpose is to defend member nations against Russian aggression. So why would Turkey join a Russian alliance to invade another country?
While it hasn't made sense in recent years, that idea doesn't seem so far-fetched today. In May 2010, Turkey and Russia signed a series of agreements enhancing their energy ties, including an agreement to build Turkey's first nuclear power plant. And in recent years, Turkey's domestic politics - historically secular in nature - have been heavily influenced by Islam. And that gives Turkey more than enough motive to join the Gog of Magog Alliance."
And here we are. Erdogan has consolidated power in Turkey. Ataturk's Turkish Republic is dead. The relationship between Vladimir Putin and Erdogan is strong and growing. All that's left to permanently move Turkey into Russia's sphere of influence is a clear break between Turkey and NATO.
While we wait for that moment, the military forces of the three most powerful members of the Gog of Magog alliance - Russia, Iran, and Turkey - are now cooperating in Syria. This puts their joint military forces right on Israel's border. And not just any border - Israel's northern border. This is where Ezekiel said the invasion force will come from - north of Israel (Ezekiel 38:15; Ezekiel 39:2). Is this a mere coincidence? I don't think so. Never in history have these three nations formed an alliance. Now, they're stationed directly to Israel's north.
The stage is now set for the fulfillment of the Ezekiel 38-39 prophecies. Turkey has made a strategic choice to align itself with Russia and Iran. Eventually, Russia, Iran, Turkey, and the other nations in the Gog of Magog alliance will send an overwhelming invasion force against Israel (Ezekiel 38:8-9). When they do, God will destroy them and display His power and glory for all the nations to see (Ezekiel 38:22-23). It's one more sign of how close we are to the Second Coming of Jesus.
Top 10 Signs of Redemption This Year - By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz - www.breakingisraelnews.com
"How welcome on the mountain Are the footsteps of the herald Announcing happiness, Heralding good fortune, Announcing victory, Telling Tzion, "Your God is King!" Isaiah 52:7 (The Israel Bible™)
On Sunday evening, the Hebrew calendar moves forward to 5780. According to Jewish tradition, the final redemption must arrive before the beginning of the 6,000th year so signs should be appearing. A quick roundup of the past year shows that this is indeed the case as Breaking Israel News gives a recap of the top ten Geula (redemption) articles of the year (There were so many that we added a bonus).
1.Multiple Jewish Sources Point to Israel's Election Impasse as the Gateway to Messiah
The modern state of Israel is a miracle, a visible reminder that the Biblical covenant between God and the Jews is indeed eternal. Early elections were called last year and after the voting was done, no government was formed. This was unprecedented but even more surprising was when a second round of elections held last week also ended in a stalemate. Precisely according to prophecies predicting this would happen as a precursor to Messiah.
2.Yemen's Involvement in Attack on Saudi Arabia Fulfills Isaiah's Gog and Magog Prophecy
A catastrophic attack in Saudi Arabia by Iran-backed Yemenite Houthi rebels shook the world, destroying the facilities that produce five percent of the entire world's oil. If the U.S. picks up the gauntlet thrown at their feet by the Iranians, the confrontation in Yemen predicted by Isaiah as preceding the pre-Messiah War of Gog and Magog may suddenly appear, as one rabbi said, "much sooner than anyone thinks."
3.Universal Prayer, Non-Jewish Sacrifice on Mount of Olives to Cancel Out War of Gog and Magog
The Conference of the Organization of the 70 Nations will begin with universal prayer and culminate a ceremony in which an animal sacrifice will be offered on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem to renew the covenant made between God and all of mankind. The organization is a great step towards replacing the United Nations with a Zion-based universal effort to bring the world in line with God's will.
4.Exclusive: Burning of Heifer Takes Place in Preparation for Third Temple
A major step was made towards reinstating the Temple service: after an intensive study into the practical details, an actual heifer, albeit not a red one, was burned in precisely the manner that will enable the Jewish people to be purified.
5.Foxes Appear on Temple Mount in Time to Fulfill Verse in Lamentations Read on Ninth of Av
An article on Breaking Israel News about foxes being sighted on the Temple Mount garnered over a quarter million reads, leading one influential rabbi to note that the phenomenon coupled with the reaction are sure signs that "more prophecies are on the way." The sighting comes during the nine-day period of austerity culminating in the Ninth of Av when Jews read the Book of Lamentations which includes a verse about foxes on the Temple Mount.
6.Are the Ten Plagues Reappearing Today?
A recent wave of four Biblical plagues has many wondering if the remaining six are about to strike since, according to Jewish tradition, all of the plagues that struck Egypt will reappear before the final redemption.
7.Ezekiel's End-of-Days Vision Revealed: Dead Sea Coming to Life
For those who have visited the lowest point on the face of the earth, Ezekiel's end-of-days prophecy of the Dead Sea coming to life seems impossible, yet recently, scientists have been shocked to discover that the sinkholes appearing around the sea are quickly filling up with fish and other forms of life previously unseen in the inhospitable region.
8.Snake in the Temple
A snake wriggling out from between the stones of the Western Wall in search of a meal brought with it a message straight from Jewish mystical teachings; connecting the archetypal enemy of man with the High Priest in the Temple, and also, perhaps, serving as a harbinger of the Messiah.
9.Plague of Locusts Attacks Islam's Holiest Mosque in Mecca
Saudi Arabia, in particular the location of Islam's holiest sites, Mecca, was recently been inundated by swarms of locusts, crickets and cockroaches.
10.Sanhedrin Invites 70 Nations to Hanukkah Dedication of Altar for the Third Temple
The nascent Sanhedrin released a declaration to the 70 nations for Hanukkah to be read at a ceremony in Jerusalem on the last day of the holiday. The ceremony included the consecration of a stone altar prepared for use in the Third Temple. The declaration was intended as an invitation to the nations to participate in the Temple and to receive its blessings.
Nearing Midnight: Israel-Jordanian End-times Ties - Terry James - https://www.raptureready.com/category/nearing-midnight/
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's reelection bid Tuesday September 17 has definite prophetic overtones, I think. The election is still not confirmed one way or the other as of this writing. But we will offer the following thoughts nonetheless.
Like in the case of Donald J. Trump's political turmoil in the US, Netanyahu's whirlpool of opposition that seeks to destroy him is a struggle against wicked powers and principalities to be sure. The ongoing storm involving both leaders continues to focus the attention of the prophetic observer upon end-times stage setting.
The Israeli prime minister, prior to Tuesday's election, questioned just who the Israeli people wanted to trust to negotiate with in trying to work out a peace deal. Did they prefer to work with Trump and his effort at peace, or with those of Netanyahu's opposition?
The prime minister reminded how he, Netanyahu, had helped convince President Trump to declare Jerusalem Israel's capital. He had, he also reminded, convinced Mr. Trump to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Additionally, he announced that, if reelected and upon forming an effective coalition government, he would annex the Jordanian Valley and the northern reaches of the Dead Sea for Israel-a thing that would help to consolidate stronger defensive buffer zones from attacks from the Jewish state's surrounding enemies.
Netanyahu further sought to provide proof of his close working relationship-even friendship-with the American president. He said that he told the US administration of his plans to annex the Jordan valley well before making the announcement publicly. He said "someone in the White House" had said off the record that "Netanyahu's plan does not impinge on Trump's."
The prime minister said further, "That's saying a lot." He went on to express the vast differences in dealing with the current US president as opposed to the previous.
"For over eight years," Netanyahu said, "I blocked the attempt to push us into the '67 borders, to uproot settlements. Then, in the last three years, I'm changing the course of Jewish history by getting recognition for settlement, for the borders."
He declared that he had "persuaded Trump to recognize Jerusalem as our capital, move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, recognize our sovereignty in the Golan, get out of the horrible Iran deal-that Gantz and Lapid [political opponents] supported-and now I'm doing the same thing [not only] vis a vis the Jordan Valley, but also all the settlements inside and outside the blocs. This is crucial."
Immediately upon his declaration of his intention to annex certain swaths of the Jordanian Valley, the Palestinian leadership complained that this action will assure hostilities for the next hundred years. Leaders of both Russia and of Turkey joined in the rant against Netanyahu's planned action.
For many years I and others who observe political movement within the Middle East-Israel in particular-have been curious about the entity called Jordan. Most who study the end-times alignment of nations look with interest at the following prophecy: "He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon" (Daniel 11:41).
The "he" in this prophecy is reference to the Antichrist, who will run rampant over the nations of the Middle East at the height of his power. It is fascinating to consider that present-day Jordan is carved from the territory called Moab in the prophecy. The children of Ammon, of course, are, in modern terms, the people of Jordan.
There are two nations among Israel's antagonists not mentioned in the Gog-Magog coalition that will storm southward to destroy Israel and take "great spoil." These countries are Egypt and Jordan.
These are the only Arab-Muslim nations in the region who have officially made peace with the much-hated Israel. While it is not yet clear what Netanyahu's intention to annex these buffer lands mean in the overall scheme of stage-setting for fulfilled prophecy, we must consider developments with piqued focus.
A number of prophetic passages in the Bible foretell that both Egypt and Jordan (Moab and the children of Ammon) will fare well during Christ's millennial reign. Of course, the people who come out of these regions to inherit that thousand years of a magnificently restored planet earth will be a remnant. These will be believers in Christ for salvation who survive the terrible time of Antichrist rule and of the judgments of the Tribulation era.
However, the prophecy above and others seem to indicate that people, particularly in the area of present-day Jordan, will avoid Antichrist's devastation for the most part. Jesus said to each who call Him Lord: "What I say unto one, I say to all, watch" (Mark 13: 37).
As our new book Discerners: Analyzing Converging Prophetic Signs For the End Of Days lays out for believers in these closing days of the age, it is time to seek understanding of the strange things going on all around us. The Holy Spirit will make the madness of it all discernible, if we but seek to know about the signs of the times.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14 ).
Israel Update - By Hal Lindsey -
On Monday, September 23rd, the Likud party of Benjamin Netanyahu and the Blue and White party of Benjamin Gantz agreed to pursue a "unity government" for Israel. Negotiating teams are set to begin working out details of the proposed government on October 1st. It will be a difficult and treacherous process.
After the election in April, a government could not be formed. So, in September, just a few days ago, Israel held another election. Again, there was no clear-cut winner. Gantz's Blue and White party won 33 seats and Netanyahu's Likud won 31 seats, leaving them both a long way from the 61 seats needed to form a majority.
Israel has a parliamentary system of government. They call their legislative body the "Knesset." That name comes from Knesset HaGdola, meaning "Great Assembly." According to tradition, Ezra formed the Great Assembly. It was a religious council of 120 scribes, sages, and prophets. While it would be difficult to find a sage or prophet in the modern Knesset, the number remains fixed at 120 - requiring 61 seats to create a majority.
Reuven Rivlin serves as President of Israel. The President has many ceremonial jobs but few actual powers. The most significant of his powers is in facilitating a new government following each election. The President must consult with Knesset members to determine who has the best chance of forming a governmental majority.
After recent polling of the Knesset, he found that Netanyahu had a slight advantage with 55 backers, compared to Gantz's 54. That 54 includes the backing of the Israeli Arab party. It would be difficult to raise either of those numbers to 61, thus the proposed unity government.
Such a government would require some means of sharing power. From 1984 to 1988, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Shamir took turns acting as Prime Minister. While possible, such an arrangement between Netanyahu and Gantz has, at least until now, seemed highly unlikely.
A few days ago, Gantz cited impending indictments against Netanyahu as reasons against pursuing a unity government. Despite the accusations and investigations, formal charges have not been filed against the Prime Minister. He continues to deny all the accusations. The Attorney General of Israel is scheduled to announce a decision on whether to indict on October 3rd. That greatly complicates the process of forming a government.
People tire of politicians. Winston Churchill stands as one of the great figures of the 20th century. He held his nation together during the terrible German blitz. After helping to lead the Allies to victory in World War II, he almost immediately lost his job as Prime Minister in 1945. That's just how the world works.
It's easy to forget what things were like in Israel when Bibi Netanyahu became Prime Minister. Bus bombs and intifadas made every moment of every day feel like a life or death struggle. Syria and Hezbollah constantly threatened from the north. Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak almost gave away East Jerusalem. Thankfully, Yasser Arafat thought he could get even more, and turned the deal down. Benjamin Netanyahu changed all that. He brought the kind of stability that is necessary for national progress and economic prosperity.
He built an amazing record, but he also accumulated enemies. Those enemies include much of the Israeli and international press corps, as well as liberals in his own and other countries. Nevertheless, he stands as a towering figure in the history of modern Israel - the man Israel needed for the times in which he led.
Those of us who love Israel can hope his leadership will continue during the turbulent days to come. If not, we can be thankful for his leadership to this point.
The Book of Daniel teaches that the revived nation of Israel will one day join in a treaty with the Antichrist. The confirmation of that treaty will mark the beginning of what is popularly known as "the Tribulation." The present turmoil in Israel seems to be bringing the world closer to that day.
Daily Jot: Dems accusing Trump of exactly what Clinton, Biden did - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com
The Democrats are screaming impeachment over President Trump inquiring whether Presidential candidate Joe Biden's son was involved in corruption in the Ukraine. AP reports that Trump told reporters, "It's very important to talk about corruption. If you don't talk about corruption, why would you give money to a country that you think, is corrupt?" Trump says that he did not tell the Ukraine president that his country would get US aid only if it investigated Biden's son. The Democrats are trying to make another impeachment case. Politics is a dirty business. People are looking for dirt on other people all the time. It doesn't make it right, but as the President said, if someone is corrupt, people need to know.
There were no Democrats, and very few Republicans for that matter, who even raised an eyebrow at Hillary Clinton's very well documented pay to play scheme when she was Secretary of State. Here is a short list of Clinton's corrupt dealings while she was Secretary of State: Nuclear grade uranium to Russia scoring $145 million to the Clinton Foundation, Bill Clinton's $500,000 speech in Moscow, Clinton campaign Chairman John Podesta's $35 million energy deal with Russia, Clinton Foundation receipt of $2.35 million in donations from Ian Telfer, head of Russia's uranium company, and the list goes on and on. But there was no mention by the venerable news media that Clinton should be investigated or removed.
The New York Times confirmed in May that Joe Biden's son Hunter was paid as much as $50,000 per month as a board member of the natural gas firm owned by the Ukrainian oligarchy. Breitbart reports that Vice President Biden was heavily involved in mediating US policy towards Ukraine. When a Ukrainian prosecutor launched a corruption investigation into the energy company of which Hunter Biden was a board member, Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in US loan guarantees to the country if the Ukrainian government did not fire the prosecutor. The Hill reported in April that the elder Biden bragged to the Council on Foreign Relations in a 2018 speech how he strong-armed Ukraine into firing its prosecutor.
Now a whistleblower report is claiming that on a call Trump strong-armed Ukraine's president to investigate Biden's son by threatening to withhold foreign aid, although AP reports, the "whistleblower" did not have firsthand knowledge of the call. The Democrats and the media are accusing Trump of doing exactly what Biden admitted he did, but the media was silent when Biden did it. Americans should demand transparency. Moreover, given the track record of all the failed attempts at removing Trump, Americans should demand that politicians do what they were elected to do-work on solving the nation's problems rather than partisan grandstanding that only causes problems. These are perilous times as 2 Timothy 3:13 says, "But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." Do not be deceived.
Daily Devotion: Free Will - by Greg Laurie -
I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life.-Deuteronomy 30:19
During the darkest days of Johnny Cash's spiral downward due to drugs, alcohol, and poor choices, an important incident happened in his life in Lafayette, Georgia. On November 2, 1967, Cash was visiting a friend there, and went out by himself that evening and got lost. In an effort to get directions back to his friend's house he knocked on the door of an elderly woman who lived alone, and she called the police on him. It must have been obvious to her that he was high or drunk, or both. Deputy Bob Jeff responded, and in patting Cash down discovered prescription drugs on him (which were legal). He took Cash to jail, and Johnny spent the night in a cell.
The next morning, Sheriff Ralph Jones awakened Cash and took him into his office. Cash was sick and despondent, and expected the lawman to come down on him hard. But instead Jones opened a drawer, took out the money and pills taken off Cash the night before, held them out and said: "I'm going to give your money and your dope back, because you know better than most people that God gave you free will to do with yourself whatever you want to do."
Cash could throw the pills away, or go ahead and take them and kill himself, said Sheriff Jones, adding, "Whichever one you want to do, Mr. Cash, will be all right with me."
Johnny was dumbfounded. What was going on here?
As sorrowfully as if he were talking to his own wayward son, Jones explained to Cash that he and his wife had been Johnny Cash fans for over a decade-had every record he had ever made, in fact.
"We love you," he said. "We've always loved you. We've watched you on television, listened for you on the radio. We've got your album of hymns. We're probably the best two fans you've ever had."
The night before, continued the sheriff, upon finding out that the great Johnny Cash was in his jail and why, he went home to his wife and told her. Jones said he actually felt like resigning right there and then because it was so heartbreaking to see how far a man who meant so much to them and others had fallen.
Then Jones told Johnny to take his money and pills and go. "Just remember-you've got the free will to either kill yourself or save your life." Indeed, Cash, like all of us, had free will.
God will not force His way or will in our lives. He will set the choices before us, and even give us the strength to follow through once we have made them. But the Lord will not choose for us; that is up to us.
1. And Joshua said to all the people . . . "Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:2, 14-15 NKJV)
What idols and influences are trying to distract you from wholeheartedly serving the Lord?
2. I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them." (Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NKJV)
God has given us free will to choose life or death, blessing or cursing. What do you choose today?
3. Whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. (Romans 13:2 NIV)
This wasn't the first time Johnny found himself inside of a jail cell. When we break the law, who are we sinning against?
