The Mysteries of God - Pete Garcia -
http://www.omegaletter.com/articles/articles.asp?ArticleID=8726 I've often asked myself why was the Bible written the way it was...a little here, a little there. God's message to mankind, parceled out over 1,600 years to around 40 different writers, all from vastly different times and backgrounds. Why do some subjects lend themselves to such an extent, that opposing views, whether it is on Baptism or the Second Coming, seemingly justify their opposing points of view? You know what I'm talking about. Any time you've discussed the bible with anyone else, you point to this verse to prove your point, and they point to another that seems to prove their point. So why was God's word written like that, when the Holy Spirit could have had the Prophets, Apostles, and Writers state exactly what God means in such a way that it couldn't possibly be construed any other way? Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." 2 Timothy 2:15-19 NKJV Of late, I have undertaken a personal quest of sorts, to throw myself into the theological shark-tank of those directly opposed to what I believe. In a way, I wanted to see if what I believed really held up to what I have come to understand, and thus far, I have not been disappointed. But yet, I have met some very sincere brothers and sisters in Christ who feel with equal passion, that I'm as wrong as I think they are. There are several different ways to approach this topic. The first is, understanding that true, born again believers, who all have the same Holy Spirit, sometimes have vastly different understandings of God's word. To be a born-again believer, one has to believe the fundamentals. These are those things that differentiate us from the cults and fringe-pseudo Christian groups who only piggyback off the name of Christ, but deny what it is to really be Christian: 1. The deity of Christ-includes: the virgin birth, sinless life, death, burial, and resurrection. (Phil 2:6; 1 Tim 3:16) 2. The infallibility of Scriptures-from Gen 1 to Rev 22, God's word is inspired by God, and can be trusted. (2 Tim 3:16) 3. The Tri-une nature of God. (Gen 1:26; Matt 28:19) 4. Man's helpless estate, in need of a Savior. (Rom 3:23) 5. Salvation by grace through faith, not of works (Titus 3:5; Eph. 2:8-9) So what is it that causes us born-again believers to divide ourselves so easily these days? I believe it is over the 'mysteries of God' that are revealed in the New Testament, primarily through the Apostle Paul...which is why he has become the most divisive writer in the Bible. Because it is through Paul that God reveals the deeper things of God that impact the Church. To understand these correctly, reveals much to the believer. To get these wrong, leads to heresy of varying degrees. The Mysteries What is a mystery according to Scriptures? Simply put, a mystery (musterion-Greek) is something that had not yet been previously revealed to man. It does not mean it didn't exist prior, but only that God kept that information 'close-hold' and revealed it at a later point. Paul, to whom these were revealed too for the first time, explains what these things are to us as Christian's. 1. The mystery of Israel's blindness (Rom 11:25-27) 2. The mystery of Christ in you (Eph 3:3-5) 3. The mystery of the Church (Eph 5:32) 4. The mystery of Godliness (1 Tim 3:16) 5. The mystery of the Rapture (1 Corinthians 15:51-56) 6. The mystery of Lawlessness (2 Thess 2:7) Each of these, are things that were not revealed in the Old Testament, and had been hidden from the prophets and even the writers back then, for the better part of 4,000 years. They recorded passages as moved the Holy Spirit, but they themselves didn't fully know what it was they were writing about. (1 Peter 1:10-11) It was Paul (former Pharisee and persecutor of the church) who said of himself, that no one taught him these things, but he learned everything from Christ Himself (Gal 1:11-12). If we fail to understand the mystery of Israel's blindness, Christians will think that God is done with Israel, which leads to various flavors of replacement theology. If we fail to see the mystery of Christ in you, who not only cleanses us, but also imparts His righteousness to us, then we think that our salvation is somehow dependent upon our own behavior. If we fail to understand the mystery of the Church, we fail to understand our role and our royal standing in God's economy as 'the Bride'. If we fail to understand the mystery of Godliness, than we fail to see how it is God's righteousness that demands perfection, and that God's love provided a way for man to attain that righteousness through Jesus Christ. If we fail to understand the mystery of the Rapture, our hopeful expectancy is misplaced. If we fail to understand the mystery of lawlessness, we fail to recognize the working of the Holy Spirit as the 'Restrainer' through the Church, and that 'that day' can't come, until the Restrainer (with those whom He indwells and seals) has been removed. [See Eph 1:11-14; 2 Cor 1:21-22; Acts 2:1-4] The Bible was written in such a manner, that it takes the Holy Spirit to guide us and to reveal its truth to us. (John 14:15-18, 15:26-27, 16:12-15) It was why the Bible makes no sense to a non-believer. It is why the Bible can be so easily tweaked and twisted, to allow those who would abuse God's message for their own glory, do so for their own destruction. God's word was designed with the believer in mind. Aside from the Holy Spirit, and various historical and archaeological proofs from our history, we are left with a 2,000 year old Book we identify as God's word to guide us day to day. God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds Hebrews 1:1-2 We don't have signs and wonders, nor do we have prophets designated by God to speak for God these last days. We have no priests who we act as mediators for us with God. We have Jesus Christ, who now serves as our mediator, but came as a Prophet (Deut 18:15), and one day as our King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. (Rev. 19:16) We are family, a royal family that is, and we have access to God's throne day and night where we lay our cares and concerns before our Father. (1 Peter 2:9) But, we are not all gifted the same, as 1 Corinthians 12 points out. We are all given different callings and different understandings, I think in large part, to draw us to different ministries that all make up the 'body of Christ'. To some, the prophetic word is that which brought them back to the Bible, or sustained their interest in it, or even led them to believe in the first place. To others, prophecy is all just 'pie in the sky' things that no one can understand. To others, their understanding of prophecy has been corrupted through man's departure of the literal interpretation, and they have been led to believe in a complicated, inconsistent view of the prophetic word. Clearly, the Bible was designed in such a way that it could only take the Holy Spirit to help one 'rightly divide' the word. We have very clear passages such as John 3:16, John 14:6, and Romans 3:23 that leave zero room for deviation. Why couldn't the entire bible have been written in this manner, leaving zero wiggle room for wrangling different interpretations out of the passages. Two reasons I can think of come to mind: 1. Differences promote discussion. 2. Differences keep us separated These may seem odd things to point out, but think about that for a moment. If we all agreed on everything, discussions die. I've found this to be true on almost any subject. I also think that this provides God a way to reward us differently based on how we approach a subject. Some view missions as the main focus for the Church today, while others view teaching the brethren or self-growth as the most important. Either way, differences stimulate discussion like nothing else can do. The main reason for our differences, stem from HOW we interpret the Scriptures. Some take the Bible in a historical-grammatical-literal manner. Many others do not, so we have the same Book, but we look at the passages very differently. I also believe that we have unity in the body of Christ primarily due to the fundamentals of our faith. While on the other hand, what others' have deemed as 'secondary' issues (those things not necessary to believe in for salvation) have largely divided us. I believe this was by design to keep us from uniting under one banner of religion. God knows man's heart, and He knew that we if were united under one common religion (denomination/branch/etc), man would corrupt the message. I'm sure in its infancy, the Roman Catholic Church in the 4th-5th century AD had good intentions. But if you consolidate power into the hands of just the clergy (the few), power then corrupts imperfect men. Next thing you have is paganism in the church, anti-Semitism, selling indulgences, Crusades, and the Inquisitions. This division is not for His benefit, but for our own. Need I remind anyone on what God said in Genesis 11:6-7? And the Lord said, "Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." Our theological languages have been confused, or allowed to be confused. There have always been differences in how we understand the Scriptures, but none so much as these days. There are more denominations now then at any point in our history. It is why in Revelation 2-3, you have seven separate churches, with seven uniquely different issues. They weren't all the same, and Jesus admonishes and praises them, not because they were different, but for the good and wrong things they were doing. I don't think any one group has THE perfect hermeneutic this side of the Rapture, because we all see through a 'glass darkly' (1 Cor. 13:12). But I believe Pre-Millennial, Pre-Tribulational, Dispensationalism is the most accurate, and the most consistent. But even we don't have all the answers, because there are things that have not yet been revealed. One day we will understand, (1 Cor. 15:51-56). Until then, may the Holy Spirit give you knowledge and understanding, and the wisdom to know when and how to apply it. Maranatha! Israel's 'Nationality' Law and Palestinian Lies - by Bassam Tawil - https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13052/israel-nationality-law-palestinians For the past few weeks, the Palestinians and their leaders have been raising strident voices against Israel's new Nation-State Law, which specifies the nature of the State of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. The Palestinians have condemned the law as "racist" and claimed that it paves the way for Israel becoming an "apartheid state." This week, Palestinians declared a general strike in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to protest the law, which, they say, "eliminates the two-state solution." It is far from clear, however, why the Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip should be concerned about the new law. The Palestinians living in these areas are not Israeli citizens and are not part of the Israeli political system. The Palestinians living in these areas have their own (Palestinian) citizenship, their own flag, their own parliament and their own government. They are not affected by the law in any way. This fact renders their opposition to the law little less than ridiculous. Because they have their own parliament and state institutions, the Palestinians are free to pass any laws they wish without seeking permission from Israel or any other party. Most people are unaware that the Palestinians do have their own laws, including the "Palestinian Basic Law," which was passed by the Palestinian Legislative Council in 2002. Why is it important to remind the world of this Palestinian law now? Since the Palestinians are voicing their strong opposition to the Israeli Nation-State Law (which has nothing to do with them), there is a need to bring to international attention one of the major articles of the Palestinian Basic law. Only then will the world understand how the Palestinians and their leaders are duping everyone and engaging in hypocrisy and double standards. The Palestinians say they cannot accept Israel as a Jewish state and will never recognize it as the homeland of the Jewish people. This, the Palestinians argue, is one of the main reasons why they are opposed to the new Israeli law. In recent years, Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has repeatedly expressed his vehement refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. In fact, he has never missed an opportunity to make his position clear on this subject. "We will not recognize or accept the Jewishness of Israel," Abbas has repeatedly stated over the past few years. Abbas and the Palestinians will, of course, never accept Israel as the homeland of the Jewish people. Doing so, they reckon, would mean that Palestinian refugees and their descendants will never return to their former homes inside of Israel. The Palestinians continue to argue that the "right of return" is sacred and, under any deal with Israel, millions of Palestinians should be permitted to converge on Israel -- a move that would mean turning the Jews into a minority in their own country. The Palestinians, however, who are hell-bent against Israel declaring itself a Jewish state, are the very ones who are affirming that Islam will the official religion in a future Palestinian state. Here is what Article 4 of the Palestinian Basic Law states: "Islam is the official religion in Palestine. The principles of Islamic Sharia shall be the main source of legislation. Arabic shall be the official language." So, this is the logic of Abbas and the Palestinians: Israel defining itself as a Jewish state is an act of "racism" and "apartheid," while, as a matter of course, the future Palestinian state will be an Islamic state governed by Sharia law, and that is not presumably an act of "racism" or "apartheid." In a further ironic twist, the Palestinians say that they oppose the new Israeli law because it "abolishes" Arabic as an official language in Israel (a false claim), while they themselves are poised to make Arabic the sole official language of their future state. In fact, the Israeli Nation-State Law does recognize Arabic as a primary language. Here is what the law says in this regard: "The Arabic language has a special status in the state; the regulation of the Arabic language in state institutions or when facing them will be regulated by law. This clause does not change the status given to the Arabic language." While Israel continues to respect the Arabic language and has even granted it special status, the Palestinians -- in their Palestinian Basic Law -- make no reference to any language other than Arabic. The Palestinian law does not even mention English, Hebrew or French as secondary languages. It states that the only official language in the Palestinian state will be Arabic, and Arabic alone. This is where the double standards can be found with regards to the Palestinians' and the others' position on the Israeli Nation-State Law. Before condemning Israel for seeking to preserve its character as a Jewish state, the world needs to explain why it is all right for the Palestinians to plan that their future state will be ruled by Islamic law. Why are the Palestinians permitted to plan for Islam to be their official religion, while Israel is denounced for seeking to maintain its Jewish character and identity? Moreover, why is Israel castigated because of a law that guarantees special status to Arabic in the Jewish state, while not a voice is raised in wonderment as to why the Palestinians refuse any language other than Arabic in their future state? We are witnessing yet another remarkable mirror image brought to us by the Palestinians: once again, they seek to deny Israel precisely what they believe should come to them on a silver platter. But this is the old Palestinian story in a new bottle. This time, the Palestinians wish to keep the tenets of the Palestinian Basic Law under wraps. Perhaps they are somewhat concerned about world opinion on the matter. Given the history of world opinion on related Palestinian duplicity, however, perhaps the Palestinians have less to worry about that they believe. Temple Mount Recent Events - By Daymond Duck - https://www.raptureready.com/2018/09/30/temple-mount-recent-events-daymond-duck/ Readers will notice that this article was written before the event took place (because I will be away from my computer for a week). Last week, a friend sent me a recent copy of The Temple Mount & Land of Israel Faithful Movement newsletter (www.templemountfaithful.org). This group was founded by Gershon Salomon, an IDF officer that participated in the capture of East Jerusalem and the Temple Mount during Israel's Six-Day War. Mr. Salomon's group is committed to rebuilding the third Temple on the Temple Mount. They conduct an annual march to the Temple Mount to call attention to their cause. On Sept. 26, 2018, Mr. Salomon's group plans to march to the Temple Mount for some of the following reasons: One, to celebrate the fact that King David established Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and King Solomon built the first Temple in Jerusalem more than 3,000 years ago. Two, to thank God for fulfilling the Scriptures and making Jerusalem the capital of Israel again. Three, to remind people that the prophets said that the Temple will be rebuilt during the end times and they believe that the events that are taking place are signs that the end times are here. Four, to remind the world that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel before many of the nations that exist today came into being and that the Temple Mount, the city of Jerusalem, and all of modern Israel are within the boundaries of the land that God promised to Abraham and the children of Israel. Five, to tell the world that God restored the nation of Israel 70 years ago to fulfill His covenant in the generation that is alive now. Six, to thank God for redeeming the Jewish people and the Holy Land. Seven, to thank God for letting the Jews return to the Promised Land. Eight, to promise faithfulness in their efforts to rebuild the Temple in this generation. Nine, to tell the world that the God of Israel has brought His people back to the Temple Mount, to Jerusalem and to the Land of Israel, and from that place they will never be exiled or taken away again. Consider what has been said in light of the fact that some prophecy teachers expect the Temple to be rebuilt after the Rapture, the Antichrist to defile it, and the Jews to abandon it for the last 3 ½ years of the Tribulation Period. A second event concerns the announcement that Amazon.com, Inc. is thinking about opening 3,000 Amazon Go stores. Shoppers will have an app in their smartphone that can be scanned as they enter the store. Cash, cashiers, cash registers, cards, card scanners and lines will be obsolete. Customers will be automatically billed when they go out the door. If an app in a cellphone will work, then the right kind of Mark in a person's forehead or right hand will work; and the next step may be to compel people to take it. A third interesting event concerns some recent comments by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. He said, "Global surveillance will soon be totally unavoidable." He added that, "The generation being born now... is the last free generation." Fourth, the Bible doesn't say it, but many prophecy teachers believe the Jews will flee to a place called Petra at the middle of the Tribulation Period. A good friend sent me a link to a 14-minute video on Petra; and it is the best I have seen. It is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK1bwnqXvX4&feature=youtu.be Finally, a reader has asked me to exhort the saints that read this to pray that God will use the upcoming election to implement righteous governance in America. I can't write on everything people ask me to write on, but I totally agree that we need a lot of people praying about our government and the upcoming elections. No less than Dr. James Dobson, founder of the James Dobson Family Institute and Family Talk Radio, has written that "Powerful social movements and passions are 'blowing in the wind,' and most of them have dangerous implications for the institution of the family, religious liberty, our children and unborn babies, and the country at large." Did you get that? An influential, highly respected Christian is warning that the next election has dangerous implications for our family, religious freedom, children, etc. Make no mistake about it: hundreds of millions of dollars are being funneled to socialists and powerful social movements that want to bring down the U.S. and replace it with a world government. The future of this generation's children and grandchildren should be a major concern for every Christian. Prophecy Plus Ministries, Inc. Daymond & Rachel Duck [email protected] The 12 Foundation Stones in New Jerusalem - Joel - http://www.christianevidence.net/2018/09/the-12-foundation-stones-in-new.html "The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve precious stones the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst." (Revelation 21:19) In the past century, it has been discovered that gems can be classified as either anisotropic or isotropic, and only recently have scientists discovered cross polarized light, which can be used to identify whether a gem is anisotropic or isotropic. When viewed in crossed-polarized light (similar to "pure" light), anisotropic stones produce a colorful array- reflecting all the colors of the rainbow, whereas isotropic stones lose all of their color and appear black. It's interesting that, in Revelation chapter 21, there are 12 gems mentioned to be inlaid for decoration of the New Jerusalem, and ALL of these 12 gems are anisotropic gems, i.e., gems that can show colorful patterns under pure light... Interestingly, neither diamond, rubies or garnets are mentioned, despite the fact that these group of gems are very very common! For instance, the precious stones are generally considered to be diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald, with all other gemstones being semi-precious. Turns out, it's because they are isotropic, when pure light passes trough them, there is no beauty at all... "For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it." (Proverbs 8:11) What are the odds? Of the 28 stones that are normally regarded as gemstones, only 16 are anisotropic. Since anisotropic behaviour has only been discovered in the last century (and John wrote Revelation almost 2000 years ago), the odds of 12 stones picked randomly being in that one group, is about 1 in 1,000! In fact, this analysis assumes that all gems have the same probability of being included, but this is not the case (as some gems are considered more precious than others). Hence, the actual probability is much much lower than 1 in 1,000 for naming all the 12 gems, that are all anisotropic gems, in the book of Revelation! Keep in mind that there are a few assumptions being made here, i.e. the stones are a literal description of heaven (which I believe are) and that the light in heaven will be like "pure" light, which emanates through the gems... Could it be possible that God, in choosing the stones for the foundation of the new temple, deliberately avoided stones that would lose their colour and instead chose stones that disperse light to produce brilliant rainbow effects? "...and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald." (Revelation 4:3) Daily Jot: The power of accusation - Bill Wilson - www.dailyjot.com We have watched the power of accusation play out on the national stage during the past few weeks. This power is so strong that it has divided families, communities, states, and even the nation as a whole. It matters not that the people reported to be present in the very room while the very act was taking place have corroborated none of the accusations. It only matters that the accusation was made, it was reported, amplified and believed by many. In this day and age, there are some things that only an accusation need be made and a person's character and reputation are tarnished whether guilty or innocent. You have heard the saying, "The Devil is in the details." Indeed, more so that you can imagine. 1 Peter 5:8 says, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour." Revelation 12:10 says, "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down which accused them before our God day and night." About a third of Ephesians Chapter 6 is dedicated to reminding us how to deal with the Accuser. Verse 11 says, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Verse 13 exhorts, "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." Accusation has such power that even one of the Ten Commandments addresses it: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." In Hebrew, it's called "Lashon hara," or evil tongue. Leviticus 19:16 instructs, "Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among your people." The Hebrew writings say it is sin If someone says something negative about a person, or that is not previously known to public, and is seriously not intended to correct or improve a negative situation--even if it is true. The key is speaking the truth in love rather than in anger, condemnation, judgment or, in the case of what we have seen play out recently in our nation, political gain. Proverbs 26:22 says, "The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly." You see, words have meaning. The Lord does not want people making false accusations against one another. Accusations, even if they are true, are not acceptable if their intent is to harm. Proverbs 1 warns against those who lurk privately for the innocent without cause, saying in verse 15, "My son, walk not you in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path." James says that no man can tame the tongue, "it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison." There is deadly power in accusation. While we cannot control the accuser, we can control our response to the accusations. Let's respond with truth and intent to correct and improve-not by getting wrapped up in all the evil these accusations have brought. Daily Devotion: The Race of Your Life - By Greg Laurie - www.harvest.org You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? -Galatians 5:7 One of the unique qualities of retired sprinter Usain Bolt was that he not only ran so fast, but he started fast, stayed fast, and finished fast. He never slowed down. He effectively left his competitors in the dust. Some people run the race of life like that. They'll start out with a bang. They'll run full speed. And they'll end victoriously. There are others who start fast, but they'll slow down. Sometimes they'll even stumble and fall, but they get up at the end and make it across the finish line. Then there are some who start but never finish at all. Who determines how you will run the race of life? You might be surprised by my answer: You do. God gives you everything you need. He gives you all of the power and all of the resources, but it is up to you to take hold of those resources. God doesn't do the running for us. But we run the race for His glory. It's really up to you as to how you will run the race of life. You decide whether you're going to be a world changer or whether the world is going to change you. World changers don't march lockstep with current culture. World changers follow Christ and affect their surroundings more than their surroundings affect them. World changers are thermostats, not thermometers. They control the temperature. They set the pace. They think for themselves. Show me someone who reads the Bible, does what God tells him or her to do, and follows Jesus, and I'll show you a rebel in today's culture. That is what a world changer is. If you have fallen, if you have stumbled, get up and start running again. God gives second chances. You can still finish the race. FROM THE HEART
