Beware of A False Teaching - by Bill Perkins - https://compass.org/beware-of-a-false-teaching/
Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His [2nd] coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. For this reason God will send upon them deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. 2Th. 2:8-12 These verses show that the Lord is sovereign even in the activities of Satan. It deals with what happens to people in the Tribulation who missed the heavenly rescue of Born Again Believers. Without a doubt, the stunning removal of the Church from the earth will cause tremendous chaos in the world. The United States will be totally wiped out(1) while in Europe a New World Leader (NWL) will burst onto the scene demanding allegiance. With people immediately beginning to starve, the NWL will feed only those who go along with his programs. People will have a choice to choose his way or Jesus’ way. Satan’s way is temporary food and shelter… then they die and go to hell. Jesus’ way is to trust Him in death but receive eternal food and shelter in heaven. The NWL will also promote a whopper of a “lie.” We don’t know for sure what the lie will be. Some theorize it’s what happened to the millions of people suddenly missing, like UFOs taking them away. Others think it will be the claim that the NWL is God. But since this takes place early in the first half of the 7-year Tribulation, I think it’ll have something to do with taking a va((ine. After all, we showed two years ago in our article “A Bow Without Arrows” that the NWL comes conquering using drugs.(2) And, as we've discussed in past eNews issues, one of the deceptions noted in Book of Revelation is worldwide drugs. …because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery. Rev 18:23b All the nations! A worldwide deception takes place. The word “sorcery” is from the Greek word “Pharmakeia” which means "pharmacy." Didn't we just see pretty much the entire world get deceived by Satan via drugs? Nice practice run. And now we know a large percentage of those va((ines were purposely programed to CHANGE your DNA. More and more scientific studies are coming out showing if you take the shot then your immune system is likely compromised. One of the latest is a research paper by 77 scientists confirming with facts the va((ine is killing and maiming people now and more to come in the future. It's worth reading about in this short article: CLICK HERE Or if you prefer, here's a 14-minute shocking video that also makes the future uncomfortable for those va((inated for Covid. CLICK HERE I wonder how many who took the shots would take them again? Well, OK, there is at least this person who will continue to take the clot shots, and possibly up to 11 more. Watch this 3-minute video... over 5 million already have. CLICK HERE If someone willfully takes the va((ine in the future 7-year Tribulation (again, a shot that changes their God-designed DNA) they will be choosing man’s way over God’s way, Satan over Jesus. And just like Romans 1, God will give them over to their lustful desires. their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, Rom. 1:21b—22a For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, Rom. 1:25 Since the NWL and the false prophet will be doing spectacular signs and wonders for all to see in the sky, it will be quite compelling to believe “the lie.” Especially if you’re hungry. Therefore, the 2Thes. 2:11 verse is saying that if someone persistently rejects the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Tribulation, God will harden their heart on a path to hell. The hardening must be pretty “hard,” because by the time we get to the second half of the tribulation, few get saved. Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds. Rev. 16:10-11 Beware of a False Teaching Sadly, there’s a horrific, false, works-oriented teaching circulating today regarding 2Thes. 2:11. This clearly scripturally distorted teaching says that if someone hears the gospel and rejects it prior to the Rapture, then God will send the deluding influence on them and therefore they can never get saved…which is ridiculous. That dog won’t hunt. Right away people should reject this teaching based on the fact it’s a works doctrine. Don’t buy into that garbage. Think about it, if your salvation is based on your response before the Rapture, then your salvation is all about what YOU DO, or DON'T do. This contradicts so many other verses about salvation being not about what you do, but about what Jesus did. He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, Titus 3:5a Do you think the Lord wants us to NOT witness just before the Rapture so as not to take a chance on them rejecting it and dooming them forever? I would like to think these must be va((inated democrats teaching this, but no, too many Believers don't know their Bible well enough to be able to filter out bad doctrine. Also, the first 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation will be the largest evangelistic outreach the world has ever seen. An uncountable number of souls will reject the NWL and his offer to provide food and water. Instead, they will willingly rather die with their eyes on Jesus than live a little longer. After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; Rev. 7:9 “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Rev. 7:13b-14:a They refused the Mark of the Beast and paid for it with their lives. And I can promise you that many, maybe most, had heard the Gospel prior to the Rapture. I would even argue that Taco Bell moment might be their driving force once they realize they missed the Rapture! So, keep witnessing right up to our exciting departure. Use us, Lord! CQLJ! The news media went wild, and many people couldn’t contain their excitement. Where you didn’t find excitement was in Israel’s leadership who are not at all ready to budge on Palestinian issues, a position that hadn’t been a block in Saudi/Israeli relations until the US made it one. But before the media had an opportunity to joyfully denounce Israel, the US National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby threw cold water on the WSJ report saying, “Just to be blunt here, the reporting has left some people with the impression that the discussions are further along and closer to a sense of certainty than they are.” So, who do you believe? When it comes to Middle East politics, the answer is usually “no one”. Terror Attack in Tel Aviv Last Saturday in Tel Aviv, two municipal security officers noticed a man acting suspiciously. As they approached him, the man pulled out a gun and opened fire. One officer was struck, while the second returned fire hitting the gunman. Both the 42-year-old security man and the 22-year-old member of the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad eventually died of their injuries. The officer, Chen Amir, left behind a wife and three daughters. Israeli Air Force Hits Syria Israel hit Syria early Monday morning with a missile attack. Four Syrian soldiers died in the strike, and four more were wounded. Per usual, Israel declined to comment. Lebanon is on the Brink of War The economy has collapsed. The government is run by an Iranian-backed terrorist group. Soldiers are firing on civilians. Thousands of citizens are fleeing the country, while other nations are pulling out all their embassy staff. And the Hezbollah leadership is consistently speaking words of war toward Israel. It truly breaks my heart to see this. I love the Lebanese people, but they are being held hostage by Hezbollah. On Tuesday, head of Iran’s Quds Force, Esmail Qaani, landed in Lebanon. He was there to coordinate the final details for an attack on US forces in Syria and on Israel from Lebanon. What’s the motivation behind the escalations? Iran wants Hezbollah to go to war with Israel, so that the attention is diverted away from their nuclear program. Hezbollah, on the other hand, needs a war to divert attention away from how they have trashed the country. Unfortunately, war will not go well for the Lebanese people. On Tuesday, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant looked out over Lebanon from his vantage point on Mount Dov and warned Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, to not make a mistake and attack. He said that if “an escalation or conflict develops here, we will return Lebanon to the Stone Age. We will not hesitate to use all our power and erode every inch of Hezbollah and Lebanon if we have to.” Let’s pray it doesn’t come to that. US Readies for Action in Syria In the skies above Syria a couple weeks ago, a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet dropped flares in front of a US MQ-9 Reaper drone during an extremely close fly by. This action severely damaged the drone’s propellor, forcing it back to base. Down on the ground, Iran’s proxy militias are preparing for a major strike on US bases east of the Euphrates River. This is all part of Iran’s ultimate goals of destroying Israel and getting the US out of the Middle East. That goal of the US’s departure is shared by Iran and Russia. Neither will likely use their own forces to accomplish it, but they have thousands of Islamist terrorists who are more than happy to do their bidding. 3000 US Personnel Arrive in Persian Gulf As Iran continues to stir up tensions in Gulf waters, Washington has moved more than 3000 personnel to the Red Sea aboard two warships. In the past two years, Iran has seized or attempted to seize more than 20 ships. The USS Bataan and USS Carter Hall have been sent to deter this activity, bringing sailors and marines to the Fifth Fleet “to deter destabilizing activity and de-escalate regional tensions caused by Iran’s harassment, said Fifth Fleet spokesman Commander Tim Hawkins. And the Battle Drags On…. The war still rages between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv scored a victory by damaging a Russian battleship with an unmanned suicide vessel. Russia pounded Ukraine with fresh air attacks. Tens of thousands of soldiers are dying each month in this brutal conflict. In order to replenish their ranks, the Kremlin has notified the UN of its intent to order martial law in Russia. This is often a prelude to widespread mobilization. Meanwhile, a Ukrainian woman was arrested last week, accused of providing information to Moscow for an assassination attempt on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Nations Shoring Up Borders with Belarus What was with the whole Wagner Group coup attempt against Vladimir Putin? Were they really marching on Moscow to take him down, or was there another reason for their actions? If you’ll remember, I always thought there was more going on than met the eye, and now it seems we can see their strategy. While some of the Wagner Group troops have shown up in Niger (see below), many others have found their way to Belarus. Poland has grown very concerned that they are the reason this mercenary force has appeared on the other side of their border, particularly when Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has been claiming that he is having to restrain Wagner forces from attacking them. Already they have begun to shore up their border force and they are now sending 2000 more troops. Lithuania and Latvia are also transporting troops to their borders with Belarus. Russia Deepens Influence in Africa As Russia struggles in Ukraine, their plans appear to be going very well in Africa. Not only do they now have a very pro-Russian leader in Niger after the coup, but Moscow plans to reopen its embassy in Burkina Faso after 31 years. Mali and Guinea also fall into the pro-Niger coup, “friends of Russia” category. The tension is just going to grow in Western Africa between pro-Western and pro-Russian nations. A number of countries were prepared to liberate Niger from the coup, but Wagner Group forces arrived in Niamey before they could launch. This appears to have been enough to cow Nigeria, whose senate voted to authorize sanctions against their northern neighbor but declined to approve military force. Without Nigeria, the collective African force has been greatly handicapped. Brazilian President Calls for Global Government Radical leftist President Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva of Brazil is concerned about the deforestation of the rain forests. His solution? Create rules for preservation, then establish a “new global government” to enforce them. His plan is to restructure the United Nations into a stronger body with more enforcement capabilities. For years, I have been saying that climate change will be the basis for the coming one world religion. Lula sees it as the excuse for a one world government. Prophecy Update Videos Must Watch Videos! In the Fed's main CBDC paper, "Money and Payments: The U.S. Dollar in the Age of Digital Transformation," they make it clear: "Promoting financial inclusion--particularly for economically vulnerable households and communities--is a high priority for the Federal Reserve . . . a CBDC could reduce common barriers to financial inclusion." The term has a ring to it that signals support for progressive goals. "Inclusion" is part of the Orwellian trio of terms "diversity, inclusion, and equity," which, as Dr. Michael Rectenwald writes, means "surveillance, punishment of the 'privileged,' sacrifice of national citizens to global interests, and the labeling as 'dangerous' and marking for (virtual) elimination those supposed members or leaders of 'hate groups' who oppose such measures." The central banks' use of "financial inclusion" involves the same reversal of meanings. Financial Inclusion and Unbanked Households Consider that a retail CBDC would be like having a bank account with the Federal Reserve, even if it is intermediated by another bank. There is a lot of guesswork about how a CBDC will be implemented, but some say that it will not just be like having a bank account with the Fed, but that it could be exactly that. Either way, if a CBDC were genuinely aimed at financial inclusion, it would offer something to those who have chosen to forgo a bank account entirely. This "unbanked" population constitutes about 5.4 percent of US households according to a 2021 Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) survey. The survey asked each household why they do not have a bank account, and the responses indicate that minimum balance requirements, privacy, trust, and fees are the most significant factors. Privacy (or Lack Thereof) A CBDC undermines privacy. Whatever a central bank might say about privacy protection with a CBDC can be safely dismissed. The Fed paper, for example, says, "Protecting consumer privacy is critical. Any CBDC would need to strike an appropriate balance, however, between safeguarding the privacy rights of consumers and affording the transparency necessary to deter criminal activity." We should not conflate the characteristics of a CBDC with those of cryptocurrencies in general, which offer anonymity and pseudonymity to their users. Consider how the IRS recently pried open PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App accounts with transactions over $600. Consider also that the Supreme Court just ruled that the IRS can investigate your bank accounts without notification in some circumstances, including if you are a friend, family member, or associate of someone who owes the IRS. Beyond taxes, banks also willingly hand over personal information (even without a warrant or formal request) to the FBI. This data, which includes previous firearm purchases, belongs to people who show up at the wrong protest or who were merely in the vicinity as the data is collected based on transactions within a specific geographic area. The lack of privacy with bank accounts certainly contributes to the distrust people have for banks, as noted in the survey. This shows that "financial inclusion" is a mere buzzword as there is nothing about a CBDC that would gain the trust of unbanked households, who are not excluded from the banking system but actively avoid it. Fees and Negative Interest Rates According to the survey, fees are another commonly cited reason for being unbanked. People avoid banks because the fees are steep and unpredictable. Although there is no certainty regarding how a CBDC would operate, many see that it could finally offer the holy grail of monetary policy: the ability to impose negative interest rates. In effect, this would be a fee for holding a CBDC. After the 2008 crash, the Fed reached the "zero lower bound" for nominal interest rates. They were unable to stimulate more spending through their interest rate targeting approach. While there were a few outlandish ideas about imposing a negative interest rate on cash, like the idea of Greg Mankiw's student to remove the legal tender status of all currency with a serial number ending in a randomly selected digit, it is just too difficult to impose a fee on the cash in your wallet or safe. With a digital currency, it becomes effortless, especially if the use of physical cash is significantly diminished or even eliminated altogether. The monetary policy authorities would simply press a button and deduct a certain amount of CBDC from everyone's accounts. Think of the spending they would encourage if everybody knew their unspent money would be subject to such a penalty! Conclusion The "financial inclusion" rhetoric in central bank papers and speeches on CBDCs is laughable. Presently, people avoid banks because they distrust banks, value privacy, and despise fees. A CBDC wouldn't help with any of these concerns. Instead of promoting inclusion, a CBDC would become the ultimate tool for financial intrusion and control. The tyrannical potential is not a secret, even for the army of technocrats pushing for CBDCs. At a recent World Economic Forum event in China, Eswar Prasad matter-of-factly brandished the inevitable weaponization of CBDCs: And one final note that I'll make is that if you think about the benefits of digital money, there are huge potential gains. It's not just about digital forms of physical currency--you can have programmability, units of central bank currency with expiry dates. You could have, as I argue in my book, a potentially better, or some people might say, darker world, where the government decides that units of central bank money can be used to purchase some things, but not other things that it deems less desirable, like, say, ammunition or drugs or pornography or something of the sort. And that is very powerful in terms of the use of a CBDC. Of course, any moral qualms we have regarding the items he listed are irrelevant. It is clear that the state will use CBDCs to push us toward anything the state favors and away from anything the state doesn't. Programmable money means programmable citizens and the ability to control everything we buy or sell. Sound familiar? This is exactly what the Book of Revelation predicted would happen in the last days as all commercial transaction are controlled by the Antichrist. How does the Antichrist "mark the masses" for this total control. Find out more in our newest book release by Pastor Thomas Hughes - 'Marking The Masses" - available here. Joy-Deprived Saints – Jonathan Brentner - https://www.jonathanbrentner.com/https/jonathan-brentner-g8fgsquarespacecom/config/2023/8/8/joy-deprived-saints I know I’m not alone in this. It’s something that’s far too common based on my experience as well as from what others tell me. We hear excellent presentations of the gospel, but they end without an ending. There’s no mention of eternal life or our glorious hope of resurrected bodies. Yes, sometimes the pastor mentions glory in his concluding prayer or perhaps quotes John 3:16, but what does “glory” or “everlasting life” signify apart from the context of the New Testament? Will we be spirits floating around like Jacob Marley or will we find ourselves sitting all alone on a cloud with harp in hand? I don’t think so. The Bible is quite clear about our joyful hope of receiving immortal bodies at Jesus’ appearing (1 Corinthians 15:48-54, Philippians 3:20-21). This is not a fringe teaching, not at all, but it comes from several passages where the wording is unmistakable and cannot be misconstrued to mean anything else than our hope of resurrected bodies like that of our Savior after He rose from the dead. Scripture tells us that Jesus will appear, hopefully soon, and at that time He will raise the dead in Christ and catch living believers up to meet Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17). It’s then the Lord will give both groups of saints glorified and imperishable bodies. The words of the passages mentioned above refer to the event that today we call the “Rapture!” THE FORGOTTEN RESURRECTION I sometimes wonder if pastors who exclude references to our resurrection in their preaching genuinely believe the words of 1 Corinthians 15:19: If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. In the preceding verses, Paul refutes those in Corinth who claimed that there was no such thing as a resurrection (15:12-18). If true, he argues, then we must conclude that Jesus didn’t rise from the dead and our faith is thus “futile.” The end of such a dire possibility is that the “dead in Christ have perished” and we who are alive are “most to be pitied” (ESV) or “miserable” (KJV) because our hope doesn’t extend beyond this life (see vv. 18-19). Paul begins verse 20 with the glorious fact that “Christ has been raised from the dead” and in 1 Corinthians 15:47-57 he sums up our forever hope with the joyous reality of our resurrection as New Testament saints. In language that can’t be misunderstood to mean anything else, the apostle says there’s coming a time when Jesus will raise the dead with imperishable bodies and after that gloriously transform believers still alive. Paul emphasizes our joyous hope again in Philippians 3:20-21: But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. (emphasis added) Because Jesus rose from the dead, our over-the-top blissful hope is that someday we will possess a glorious body like that of our Savior. The sense of verse 20 is that of an “excited anticipation” of Jesus’ appearing. It signifies a yearning of soul for the time that Jesus raises the dead in Christ and wholly transforms us with immortality. In Romans 8:23, it’s our groaning as we await the future “redemption of our bodies.” I can’t imagine that Paul preached the Gospel apart from adding context to our hope of eternal life, that of our expectation of glorified bodies at Jesus’ appearing. I explain why I’m so certain of this in The Tragic Result of Divorcing the Rapture from the Gospel. It’s wonderful to know that because of Jesus we enjoy complete forgiveness of sins. We all need reminders of God’s grace and steadfast love toward us as well as the anticipation of our future resurrection at Jesus’ appearing, forgotten in most churches today. It’s the latter that comforts our souls as we watch our world descend into violence, lawlessness, and wickedness beyond what we once thought possible. THROWING OUT THE BABY WITH THE BATH WATER There’s an old expression that dates all the way back to 1512, “Throwing out the baby with bath water.” The idea behind the saying is that if part of a concept is good, don’t toss it all away because you think a part of it is bad. Is this not what many pastors do today? They fear the negative results of mentioning the dreaded word “Rapture,” oh my, so along with never mentioning Jesus’ future appearing, they also never mention the matter of the resurrection of New Testament saints or the glorious transformation of those who will be alive at the time. Water and baby both go out the window. One of the reasons that I wrote The Triumph of the Redeemed-An eternal Perspective that Calms Our Fears in Perilous Times was to provide pastors with a biblical basis for the Rapture from which they could boldly preach about Jesus’ appearing and the over-the-top joyous blessings associated with our receipt of immortal and imperishable bodies. I also wrote to provide a firm biblical foundation for the pre-Tribulation Rapture so that believers might rejoice in what lies ahead for them after the Rapture. I often wonder why so many pastors refuse to mention our joyous hope of living forever in glorious, resurrected bodies. One could easily emphasize this biblical truth with mentioning you know what. In my opinion, this results from unbelief. Pastors and teachers immersed in covenant theology must spiritualize a very large number of Old and New Testament passages that teach the restoration of a kingdom for Israel. In doing so, they deny the reality of the Tribulation and Jesus’ thousand-year reign and because of these errant beliefs they must find alternate interpretations for passages that refer to Jesus’ appearing as an event separate from the Second Coming. Some in the covenant theology camp teach that the words 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 denote the believers’ regeneration rather than our future resurrection. I was totally stunned when I first read this errant interpretation, but to my dismay, this false rendering of these verses has become common in many churches. This goes far beyond forgetting the physical resurrection of the saints; it rather signifies a denial of this cherished belief so prominent in God’s Word. WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL? At this point, one might ask, “What’s the big deal?” As long as the gospel is proclaimed and people respond, why raise such a fuss? Yes, the presentation of the gospel is able to yield wonderful results even when it comes without a peep regarding our hope of resurrection bodies. But why can’t the Lord produce at least the same results with the inclusion of our joyous hope? Why is telling people that Jesus offers them a glorious future with resurrection bodies more offensive than telling them they are sinners in need of God’s forgiveness? What am I not seeing here? The “big deal” is this: when pastors operate with the illusion that the truths associated with Jesus’ appearing are offensive to both unbelievers and immature saints, they deprive everyone of hearing the details of our amazing future joy. Such silence leads to joy-deprived saints who also lack the teaching that the Apostle Paul says enables us to “stand firm” in our faith (Philippians 4:1). The truths associated with a proper rendering of 1 Corinthians 15:48-57 encourages us to remain faithful in serving the Lord (see verse 58). Furthermore, silence regarding our eternal bliss may stem from more serious issues than simply a fear of rocking the boat on Sunday mornings. Covenant theology places Jesus’ return in the far distant future, which has the logical outcome of causing believers to look to focus on the things of this world rather than Jesus’ appearing. Because Covenant theology exalts the church, it opens the door wide to preterism and dominion theology. These heretical teachings fall far, far short of offering the joy that comes with a solid biblical understanding of our hope in Jesus’ imminent return to take His Church to glory. This is my complaint about those that proclaim the gospel without mentioning eternal life, or perhaps saving it for the concluding prayer (when most people are thinking about what to eat rather than the words of the prayer). Such presentations deprive the saints of hearing about the wondrous hope set before them, our anchor that holds within the veil during the fiercest of storms of this life (Hebrews 7:18-19). It’s not that we can’t experience joy apart from hearing about our hope; it is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. However, it helps tremendously to know that we will live forever in bodies that will never age, get sick, die, or experience any of the discomforts of this life. Such thoughts bring joy to my heart every day! Why do so many pastors hide these glorious truths from the saints and deny them the refreshing of their souls that comes from our joyous anticipation of glory? Daily Jot: The Farm Chronicles: Happy Jim and No Filter Camels - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com The summer of 1969 shortly after I turned 14, Dad decided to expand the horse business marked by the building of a 30 ft X 60 ft horse barn. He had a crew come in and drill the holes and set the poles and the trusses—in other words, frame it out. The rest was up to “us,” really me. Dad was working long hours delivering fuel from our gas and oil business to farmers, and he pretty much left it up to me to build the rest of that horse barn. We would talk about what needed to be done and he would give me brief instructions on how to do it, then take off for his work day. I often would be standing before that barn frame and just staring at it, thinking “I don’t know nothin’ about any of this.” It came time to get the barn under roof. I was sliding 4 X 8 sheets of plywood up a ladder one at a time and balancing across the rafters to lay them in place, nail them down, and hope I had them going in the right direction. The July sun was hot and this was tedious and strenuous work for a 14 year old who wasn’t confident about what he was doing. I had about a third of it done and was starting to get a good rhythm when my grandfather Wilson drove into the barnyard. I knew it was him, not only by the car, but because the car looked like there was no driver. Grandpa “Billy” (my namesake) was about 4’10” and you could never see him driving. He couldn’t see over the steering wheel, so he looked through it, just over the dashboard. Grandpa was born in 1889. So he was now just shy of 75 years old. And he wanted to help. I wasn’t sure about letting him climb up the ladder and crawl around on those rafters, but he insisted. As it turned out, we were quite a team as we worked together sliding the plywood sub-roofing in place and nailing it down. I never knew Grandpa to be without a chaw of tobacco in his cheek. And that day, he asked me if I wanted some of his Happy Jim. I told him that mom probably wouldn’t approve, but he insisted that since I was working like a man, I should chew like one. He had an ornery streak, and I think I was about to be had. I put that tobacco in my mouth and it wasn’t long I was getting sick to my stomach and had to spit it out. He got a good laugh on that one as he lit up his Camel no filter and took a puff. Grandpa and I finished the sub-roof that day. He told me a lot of old stories and we had a great time while we were working. He told me that he began chewing tobacco and smoking when he was 14. He had smoked and chewed every day since then. Doc Owens had told Grandpa Billy that Happy Jim and Camels would be the death of him. Matter of fact, Grandpa outlived the good doctor and passed away just short of his 97th birthday. I tried the Happy Jim, never tried the Camels. But the Happy Jim didn’t make me feel so happy. The memory of building the barn with my Grandpa does make me happy. Like Mary in Luke 2:19, I have treasured all these memories, “and pondered them in my heart.” Yep, Happy Jim and Camels. You needed a reboot to get everything working again. In our life as Christians, sometimes we need a reboot too. We need a refresh because we’re feeling down. This isn’t strictly a modern phenomenon, by the way. The psalmist wrote, “My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!” (Psalm 42:4 NLT). He continued, “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!” But then the psalmist shifted gears and essentially preached to himself, saying, “Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you” (verses 5–7 NLT). I’ve found myself doing that. I’ll feel down, so I will quote Scripture to myself, sometimes out loud. Do you need some spiritual refreshment today? Ephesians 5 reminds us to “be filled with the Holy Spirit” (verse 18 NLT). In the original language, this is a command. It also implies that it’s continuous. Effectively, God is saying, “I command you each day to be filled with the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit brings refreshment into our lives every day. And remember that even when things look bleak, all things ultimately will work together for God’s glory and your good (see Romans 8:28). God is in control of all circumstances that surround the believer. We read in the Book of Job that before Satan could bring hardships into Job’s life, he first had to get permission from God. And the same is true of you. God knows what you can handle. And because He loves you, He’s always keeping His eye on you. America is in more danger of falling than at any time in its history. But I believe Bible prophecy predicts this very decline. From this point on, we believers have to get serious. We are going to face discouragement, disillusionment and, most certainly, persecution in the time between now and the Rapture. But don't be discouraged or disillusioned. The coming turmoil will provide us unrivaled opportunities to share the good news of the Gospel. So be ready to share your faith and your hope with those who need Christ.
