In an August 2019 article titled "Silicon Valley Censorship and the Coming Global Police State," I wrote the following: "If you love freedom and liberty, recent actions from high tech companies should have you worried. In pursuit of profit, the mega companies of Silicon Valley have created products that invade user privacy. And they easily cave to the demands of totalitarian governments." Unfortunately, recent events reveal the United States is now among those totalitarian governments. On July 15, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced White House officials were "meeting with social media platforms" and had "increased disinformation research and tracking." She said the administration is "flagging problematic posts from Facebook that spread disinformation" and working to "connect doctors and medical professionals who are popular with their audiences with accurate information" so as to "boost trusted content." If you don't believe me, watch her press conference here. This is a blatant violation of every American's First Amendment right to freedom of speech. Who determines what is or isn't "disinformation?" In her words, the government does. And who determines what is or isn't "accurate information" or "trusted content?" Again, in the eyes of the Biden Administration, it's government. They are the arbiters of "correct" speech. It's their job to "protect" you from the evils of errant thoughts. As if this weren't bad enough, the U.S. Surgeon General followed up with his own lecture on the dangers of free thought and how the biggest threat to our health and safety is our stubborn unwillingness to agree with him. According to Dr. Vivek Murthy, "We live in a world where misinformation poses an imminent and insidious threat to our nation's health. Health misinformation is false, inaccurate, or misleading information about health according to the best evidence of the time. And while it often appears innocuous on social media apps, on retail sites or search engines, the truth is that misinformation takes away our freedom to make informed decisions about our health and the health of our loved ones." Stop right there, and read that again. According to the Surgeon General, "misinformation takes away our freedom." No, sir. That's not true. Government suppression of free speech takes away our freedom - the exact government censorship of speech you're advocating. He goes on, "Modern technology companies have enabled misinformation to poison our information environment with little accountability to their users. They've allowed people who intentionally spread misinformation - what we call disinformation - to have extraordinary reach. They've designed product features such as like buttons that reward us for sharing emotionally charged content, not accurate content, and their algorithms tend to give us more of what we click on, pulling us deeper and deeper into a well of misinformation." Any freedom loving individual should find these statements both chilling and frightening. If the Surgeon General thinks disinformation has invaded the public discourse, he's free to combat that disinformation with facts and persuasive arguments. According to the White House and the Surgeon General, freedom of speech is such a dire threat, social media platforms should collude with government to delete any posts or content the Biden White House deems "disinformation." Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and other social media platforms are more than happy to comply, and their crackdown on the evils of free speech doesn't end with public postings. According to Politico, "Biden allied groups, including the Democratic National Committee, are also planning to engage fact-checkers more aggressively and work with SMS carriers to dispel misinformation about vaccines that is sent over social media and text messages." This means government authorities might "fact-check" future private text messages between you and your friends. Imagine being in the middle of a phone call with a friend, and the government cuts off your call because the two of you are discussing "disinformation." Most people would be outraged. Yet, that's exactly what the government is doing with this social media disinformation censorship campaign. Free Speech is Under Assault People have warned about this assault on free speech for years. For instance, in July 2020, over 100 writers, academics, and political and cultural activists published an open letter in Harper's Magazine on the topic of justice and open debate. The signatories were a diverse list of well-known celebrities, including J.K. Rowling, Margaret Atwood, Noam Chomsky, Salman Rushdie, Malcolm Gladwell, and Gloria Steinem. In their letter, the authors pointed out "the free exchange of information and ideas, the lifeblood of a liberal society, is daily becoming more constricted." They wrote the letter because the current cancel culture narrows "the boundaries of what can be said without the threat of reprisal." College campuses used to be open forums for free speech and radical ideas. Today, they're ground zero for the assault on free speech – a place where totalitarians silence all dissent. This dictatorial impulse is spreading from the college campus to the public discourse, leading to censorship both online and offline - from social media platforms to local school board meetings. The willingness of so many people to suppress free speech foreshadows the rise of a dictatorial state. Widespread support for cancel culture and the demonization of opposing points-of-view set the stage for an oppressive government willing to use violence to enforce its edicts. Ironically, many of the people who claim to be anti-fascist are the exact same people who support social media censorship of any ideas they don't like. Cancelling People All this is a threat to the very foundations of human freedom and liberty. In an age when social media dominates public discourse, access to these platforms is vital to get a message out. Don't believe me? Try getting your message out to a large audience without using Facebook, Twitter, Google, Apple, Amazon, YouTube, or Netflix. It's nearly impossible. If they can de-platform the sitting President of the United States (which they did to Donald Trump), then they can de-platform you as well. We're living in a world where the largest technology firms have more power than most totalitarian governments had in bygone eras. Since the police power of government rules over these Big Tech companies, that means governments around the world are now more powerful than they've ever been. The power and reach of Big Tech is global in nature, and they've shown their willingness to use this power to silence you. In recent months, Big Tech has cancelled people and organizations deemed as dangerous or not sufficiently "woke." YouTube channels have been demonetized or shut down. Twitter and Facebook accounts have been suspended. Websites have been dropped by their hosting companies, and businesses have been frozen out of using PayPal, Visa, and MasterCard. If large corporations "cancel" you and refuse to provide you with basic services, how can you operate in the modern world? You can't. At least, not as effectively. They have the power to cancel people. What the Bible Says So what does the Bible say about all of this? The Bible says a time is coming when a global dictator will rule the world (Revelation 13:7). He will succeed in everything he does (Daniel 8:24). His power will be so great no one will be able to oppose him (Revelation 13:4). His control over the earth will be so complete, he'll regulate the purchase and sale of everything (Revelation 13:17). For most of human history, this was impossible. As this is written, it's probably still impossible. But that window of impossibility is closing fast. As technology continues to advance, every aspect of human life becomes reliant on and intertwined with digital payments and the Internet. If access to those utilities is cut off, an individual's ability to participate in modern day society is also cut off. This sets the stage for the Antichrist to control all buy/sell transactions on the planet (Revelation 13:17) and to determine at his whim who can or cannot participate in modern society. This is precisely the type of power Big Tech firms are consolidating today. The Surgeon General claims this is bad because "Modern technology companies have enabled misinformation to poison our information environment with little accountability to their users." He's wrong. What Big Tech is doing is enabling governments to limit, censor, and trample the rights and liberties of their citizens with little accountability to the ones they aim to rule. This is the road to dictatorship, and I have no doubt Big Tech will be a willing participant in the establishment of the ultimate dictatorship - the Antichrist's global police state. All this is yet another indication of the times in which we live. Jesus said when you see all these events take place, look up (Luke 21:28). So use what little time is left to spread the Gospel, because Jesus is coming soon! What On Earth is Going on? Some offer weak explanations that to the tuned-in and spiritually astute are laughable. Even once-sound pulpits remain silent and perplexed. Political commentators suggest that if we just elect their candidate, all will be rosy again someday soon. Their faith is in their political party. We Will Own Nothing and be Happy? Leftists promise that if we fix climate change and spread the wealth around, we will achieve peace on earth. Outfits like the World Economic Forum suggest some day, if we follow their formula, we will own nothing and be happy! How can society be happy under Godless Communism? Here are my conclusions as to why we're where we are in history. I am sure the list is much longer than this but here goes: Our times are perilous because God is trying to wake up and warn a sinful world. People don't listen when life is smooth-sailing. The Bible is fulfilling itself. It predicts perilous times (II Timothy 3); a Laodicea end-time church; a Romans 1 society at the end, characterized by depravity. Evil and violence will escalate. The "birth pangs" will become intense and will be hard to watch and read about. We get worn out seeing floods, fires, droughts, and hurricanes. But the Bible says these things must happen. God is warning because He always warns before He judges and the world is facing judgment. It is being judged now but far worse is coming during the Tribulation. This is just a warm-up. There are terrible consequences when we don't do things God's way. Society will fail. The church will head into apostasy. But prideful mankind always thinks their way is best and wreckage results. God is specifically sending a message to His church. He is trying to shake us up, so that we will wake up and ultimately look up. America and the world are now caught up in end-time strong delusion. That has serious consequences. Delusion does not permit people to think rationally and to act reasonably. It does not allow people to vote sensibly. The consequences are staggering. Many think that politics will be the savior, or a particular political party. They just want to "make America great again" but minus God's oversight. God is letting us know that only "one nation under God" will ever function properly and no nation can be great and Godless. America showed God the door fifty years ago. That has consequences. His blessing and protection may have left when we opened that door! God is allowing some pre-Tribulation birth pains on the entire world. But what we see happening today is minor compared to what is coming. The Church will be absent during that Tribulation time, so in the meantime, may we have a greater burden to save people from the wrath to come. The consequences for a world that rejects Jesus Christ are unthinkable. America and other Western powers have to fade as world influencers so that global government can rise up and rule the world. As these nations diminish, keep in mind that this is orchestrated by God for his end-time purposes. Lastly, I think there is chaos on earth because Satan knows his time is short and he has ramped up his activity. He is getting new recruits for his kingdom. This is all the more reason we must be salt and light in these final days. What Did You Expect the End-Times to Look Like? That's a short list summarizing a few options as to why the world is in a mess! What did you expect the end-times to look like? With God marginalized and mocked, society cannot work properly. It will collapse under the weight of everything in the world that is fractured. Only Christ's return at the Rapture and then His Second Coming at the end of the Tribulation to establish a near-perfect Kingdom will fix it! The closing days of the Church Age are a challenge for all mankind. For the Godless, these days cannot make sense. For those who know the Bible, it has the road map ahead all spelled out for us! Your Assignment Don't let more time to become wasted. Seize the moment. Jesus is coming and most of the world is in a dark place! And they have not a clue how to turn the light on unless you tell them. Nearing Midnight: These Days of Lot – Terry James - https://www.raptureready.com/category/nearing-midnight/ Listening to a television news report one morning recently I heard noise almost like a howling pack of wolves, I thought. (No longer able to see due to blindness, I “listen” to TV on occasion.) So, remote-clicking through the channels, wanting to catch a bit of news, I wondered what was going on when I stopped on a frequently visited news network, hearing this strangely mixed combination of what sounded to be both humans and animals making unearthly noises. The sounds continued with no commentary, so I continued to listen to find out why the howling. After about two minutes of the narrator-less noise, the reporter said it was a large group of Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters. They were raving—and I do mean raving—against a black, formerly gay, Christian pastor who stood before them. There were so many bleeps deleting the expletives in the audio that they were almost continuous, with the raving disrupted to the point of not being able to make sense of what was being said by individual protestors. Among the protesting mob was a large contingent of LGBTQ. The report then cut to the young preacher speaking with the reporter. They were then in a quiet setting, following the confrontation. The pastor was explaining that he was now a Christian, a husband and father of two young children. He had been preaching in Chicago about what Christ had done for him in bringing him out of the homosexual lifestyle. He was completely free from that sinful life. He was now preaching that Jesus is the answer to those he formerly was part of in trying to convince them to get into a Christ-centered lifestyle rather than a sinful one. The preacher said he received death threats, and even had his home damaged; his relatives had been surrounded in their homes and threatened to be burned along with their homes as well. The TV report then went back to the video and audio, with the lunatic-sounding raving that was full of bleeped-out expletives. Many years ago, I heard a radio news report of a group of twenty-five or so members of a pro-homosexual organization surrounding a small San Francisco church. They weren’t chanting, but in eerie, almost whispered tones, told what they planned to do in taking the children from the parents of the church parishioners and making them their own. This was quickly dismissed as almost aberration. It was unusual at that time, even for San Francisco. Today, that evil has grown into full-fledged threatening on the level of an infamous, ancient gathering in the now-disappeared city of Sodom. We remember the story as found in Genesis, chapter 19. Angelic visitors, in the form of men, came into Sodom and entered the home of Lot, the only man God found as righteous—the only man who was a believer. The men of Sodom surrounded Lot’s home and demanded that he send the visiting men out to them so they could “know” them. (That meant “know” them sexually.) These were raging homosexuals, burning in their lust to have sexual relations with the strangers. The following is God’s Word on that time: But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.” (Genesis 19:4–7) Lot’s plea went unheeded. The homosexuals—and that must have been almost all of the males who were not younger children—said they would do worse to Lot than to the strangers if Lot didn’t comply. The story, of course, is that the angels blinded the would-be attackers. It’s most interesting that the next thing that happened was that Lot and his daughters were removed to Zoar and out of the city, which was then completely decimated by God sending fire and brimstone. It is fascinating because Jesus said it will be just like that removal and judgment—just like in the “days of Lot” He next catastrophically intervenes by being “revealed” (read again Luke 17:26-–30). This is the moment when Christ raptures His church from planet earth. Jesus prophesied that it would be just like that terrible time of homosexual evil when He makes Himself known to the world in a cataclysmic way. Judgment will begin falling the very day He removes the Church, just like it fell on Sodom and her sister city Gomorrah the day Lot and his daughters were removed from that wicked, judgment-destined area. Evidence that we are quickly coming to be like in the days of Lot is shown in reports like the following. The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus has released, and then deplatformed, a new video with a threat to many American parents: “You think we’re sinful, you fight against our right, you say we all lead lives you can’t respect. But you’re just frightened, you think that we’ll corrupt your kids if our agenda goes unchecked. Fine, just this once, you’re correct,” the lyrics go. “We’ll convert your children, happens bit by bit, quietly and subtly and you will barely notice it, you can keep them from disco, warn about San Francisco, make them wear pleated pants, we don’t care-- “We’re coming for them, we’re coming for your children! We’re coming for them, we’re coming for them, WE’RE COMING FOR YOUR CHILDREN!!!”… “I guess it must be fun to fancy yourself a god!” Explained the commentary, “Keep it up guys! You’re doing great. There is nothing more unifying than telling people you are literally coming for their kids. Nothing!” At PJMedia was, “It seems the people who want to convert your children to their lifestyle and way of thinking don’t even bother to hide it anymore. The so-called ‘anti-racists’ who peddle racist, anti-Western ideology say it out loud. They even have pet thug blackshirts to scare people into it. Antifa holds a summer camp to teach protest tactics to children. Men who wish to normalize pedophilia now call themselves ‘minor-attracted persons’ (they used to be NAMBLA ) and pretend to fight for children’s sexual freedom. But, the Lord is still in complete control. His Restrainer is with us, so who can be against us? And when you see all these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your head, for your redemption draws near. U.S. relations with China are rapidly going down the tubes, and this is something that should greatly concern all of us, because it has very serious implications for our future. Personally, this is an issue that I have been focusing on for a very long time. Many years ago when I worked as an attorney, I would often have conversations about the state of the world with those that I worked with, and when China would come up I would warn that someday the U.S. and China would be bitter adversaries. At the time, what I was saying didn’t seem to make sense to a lot of people, but I understood where global trends were taking us. Like most of the things that I write about, I knew that it wouldn’t happen right away, but now we have reached a point where U.S. relations with China are the worst that they have been since the Korean War. On Monday, there was breaking news about a huge international scandal involving China, but it didn’t get that much coverage from the corporate media. According to NPR, the Biden administration announced that it is formally blaming the Chinese government for a large scale cyberattack on Microsoft… The White House is publicly blaming China for an attack on Microsoft’s Exchange email server software that compromised tens of thousands of computers worldwide, allowing hackers to gain access to troves of sensitive data. Separately, the Department of Justice announced Monday that a federal grand jury in May had indicted Chinese nationals accused of working with official sanction from Beijing to break into computer systems belonging to U.S. companies, universities and governments. This wasn’t just some random State Department official making speculative comments about who may be responsible. This is the official position of the White House, and a number of other governments around the world joined the Biden administration in placing the blame on China… In a coordinated announcement, the White House and governments in Europe and Asia identified China’s Ministry of State Security, the sprawling and secretive civilian intelligence agency, with using “criminal contract hackers” to conduct a range of destabilizing activities around the world for personal profit, including the Microsoft hack. A cyberattack of this magnitude is an act of war, and we are being told that sensitive systems all over the country were compromised… The cyberattack on Microsoft, which is believed to have begun in January, reportedly injected computers with malware that secretly monitored systems belonging to small businesses, local and state governments and some military contractors. As part of the attack, an unidentified American company was also hit with a high-dollar ransom demand, according to a senior Biden administration official. This represents a dramatic escalation by the Chinese, and the Biden administration crossed a major threshold by formally pointing a finger at China. There is no going back to the days when the U.S. and China were “friends”. Way too many bridges have been burned, and now an act of war has been committed. The good news is that at least we aren’t shooting at one another yet, but that could change. China has repeatedly threatened to invade Taiwan if independence is declared, and if that happens the U.S. military would get involved. Many Americans can’t even find Taiwan on a blank map of the world, but the truth is that it could easily spark a major military conflict. If you don’t want to take my word for it, just consider what some national security experts are saying… A clear and troubling consensus has emerged in the American national security community that the Taiwan Strait is the most likely place for a major war to erupt between the United States and China; that it might start soon, and that such a conflict might quickly escalate into a nuclear confrontation. In March, the leading foreign policy organization in the United States, the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, issued a report concluding that Taiwan has become “the most dangerous flashpoint in the world.” There, a unique and troubling set of geopolitical developments have conspired to make a shooting war between the People’s Republic of China and the United States more likely than ever before. Recently the newly appointed commander of U.S. forces in the Indo-Pacific Region, Admiral John Aquilino, remarked that a possible invasion of Taiwan by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) “is much closer than we think.” For such a long time I have been warning that this was coming, and now it is becoming a reality. Recently, the Japanese government also publicly warned that the Chinese could soon invade Taiwan, and the Chinese responded very angrily. In fact, a video channel that has “close ties to the People’s Liberation Army” released a video which had such harsh words for Japan that it made headlines all over the globe… “When we liberate Taiwan, if Japan dares to intervene by force – even if it only deploys one soldier, one plane or one ship – we will not only return fire but also wage full-scale war against Japan itself.” Can you imagine the uproar that would happen if the Biden administration said something like that? In the video, Japan was also threatened with nuclear war… In the new video now deleted, a narrator said: “We will use nuclear bombs first. We will use nuclear bombs continuously. “We will do this until Japan declares unconditional surrender for the second time.” The video has now been taken down, but it should be unthinkable to say such things. Unfortunately, these are the times in which we live. Here in the United States, members of Congress from both parties are trying to get increasingly tough on China, and Chinese ownership of U.S. farmland is of particular concern… The push to drain China’s influence from the U.S. economy has reached America’s farm country, as congressional lawmakers from both parties are looking at measures to crack down on foreign purchases of prime agricultural real estate. House lawmakers recently advanced legislation to that effect, warning that China’s presence in the American food system poses a national security risk. And key Senate lawmakers have already shown interest in efforts to keep American farms in American hands. In recent years, the Chinese have been buying up thousands upon thousands of acres of prime farmland, and their holdings are now valued at approximately 1.9 billion dollars… Chinese firms have expanded their presence in American agriculture over the last decade by snapping up farmland and purchasing major agribusinesses, like pork processing giant Smithfield Foods. By the start of 2020, Chinese owners controlled about 192,000 agricultural acres in the U.S., worth $1.9 billion, including land used for farming, ranching and forestry, according to the Agriculture Department. Hopefully Congress will step up and do something. Of course if that happens, the Chinese government will almost certainly retaliate against U.S. companies in China. Most Americans simply do not understand how bad things have gotten. Our relations with China have been deteriorating for years, and now we have officially reached a crisis point. Unfortunately, it appears that relations between our two nations will continue to fall apart in the months ahead, and at this point everyone should be able to see where all of this is eventually leading. As always, let us hope for the best, but let us also get prepared for the worst. To many people, any sort of open conflict between the U.S. and China is absolutely unthinkable, because the consequences of such a conflict would be too horrific for words. They want to teach in public schools from the youngest of grades, a theory that a person’s skin color has historically dictated his character—the very exact opposite of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s teaching that people should be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. All black people do not think and believe as the Democratic Party and mainstream media suggest. In fact, if you go to the heartland of America, you may get an entirely different point of view. Scott Turner is one such man. Mr. Turner is chairman of the Center for Education Opportunity at the America First Policy Institute. Previously, he served as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. Before entering public service, Turner was an played cornerback in the National Football League for nine seasons with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and the Denver Broncos. He is a strong Christian, and ordained pastor. He is also a Black man. He says, “In spite of what you may hear, black people do not want open borders, we don’t want to defund the police, and we don’t want higher taxes and more spending. Entrepreneurship, innovation, skills training, economic sustainability, and generational wealth creation are equally as important in the black community as in any other in America.” In an OpEd piece for the National Review, Turner wrote: “While countless Americans benefited from the blue-collar boom ignited by Republican economic policies, black Americans fared particularly well, especially compared with their experience during the Obama economy. Then, black median weekly earnings grew just 1.8 percent on average, which was less than the 2.1 percent growth for white earnings. Under President Trump’s pre-pandemic economy, however, black median weekly earnings grew 4.1 percent on average — higher, in fact, than the 3.4 percent earning growth for whites. The exceptional economic success that bolstered black American families during that period was no accident. President Trump worked closely with black leaders like me to craft an agenda that would help our communities realize our dreams.” Turner says, “Democrats may not have noticed all the work Republicans did for the black community, but black voters sure did. Between 2016 and 2020, Trump doubled his support among black women and received almost 20 percent of the vote of black men. No other Republican has come close to these numbers for decades.” Galatians 3:28 says, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” We don’t need all this race baiting and division. Try to see through all the smoke generated by the Democratic Party race artillery. Those cannons are purposely trying to divide and conquer America for a Marxist agenda. We all should look at one another as part of God’s creation, not taking the bait of hate and division, but remaining in the Truth where life and liberty reside. He is the master communicator and the master evangelist. We see this beautifully illustrated in John 4, when Jesus encountered the woman at the well in Samaria. Now, no orthodox Jew in Jesus’s day would ever go to Galilee through Samaria even though it was a shortcut. It actually would shave a lot of time off the journey. However, there was deep-seated bigotry and prejudice between Jews and Samaritans. Jews hated Samaritans. And Samaritans hated Jews. Yet the Bible tells us that Jesus, both a Jew and a rabbi, “had to go through Samaria on the way” (John 4:4 NLT). Why? Because there was a burned-out, empty, searching, immoral woman who had an appointment with God, unbeknownst to her. This serves as a reminder that the love of God knows no racial, economic, or even sinful boundaries. It also reminds us that we have to go to where people are. So often Christians try to isolate themselves from nonbelievers. It seems as though their goal is to get through the day without coming into contact with people who aren’t yet believers. But God has not called us to isolate; He has called us to infiltrate. That grumpy neighbor, that inquisitive coworker who’s always peppering you with questions, those people you’re around in your day-to-day living—they’re your mission field. God wants you to reach out to them. We need to get past our comfort zones. Yes, it’s challenging to reach out to someone who’s younger or older or who might look different than you do. But we need to go where people are. Jesus did not say that the whole world should go to church, but He did say that the Church should go to the whole world.
