As this current indication of an end-time sign continues to unfold, it appears to have prophetic support from the words of 2 Thessalonians 2:3, which says, ” Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed….” The uncertainty of how long the falling away will continue remains in God’s timing, for Jesus has said, “No one knows the day nor the hour of His coming.” This sign that is developing also has in its formation the opening of a new phase of God’s plan, as the two incidents are compared. When Pilate asked the question at the trial of Jesus Christ, “What is truth?” he had been looked at wrongly, as if he was stalling for time, but not so. He had seen strange tactics for a Roman politician who had been under Roman law for a long time. Roman law, from the background of Latin, as I understand it, has the foundation of jurisprudence and judicial proceedings that extends even into today’s courts of law. The Jewish people were subjects of the Roman government but proclaimed that they had the truth in their laws from Moses. But Pilate had examined Jesus quite thoroughly and said, “I find no fault in Him, and neither did Herod. He has done nothing worthy of death.” Their response was, Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” Then, “Give us Barabbas instead!” Pilate had seen them violate their own laws of truth during the mock trial. They had violated these judicial precepts:
Looking at God’s eternal plan, it is clear that Jesus was to be crucified for the sins of the whole world. They were blinded by their hate, and God allowed it to be so. In 1 Corinthians 2:7-8, Paul wrote this: “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” They followed their own inclinations, however, and will face the judgment of God for that. Paul said clearly, “He has made Him who knew no sin to become sin for us, that we might be the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Thus, God stood back and let evil’s incessant desire take every opportunity to move into any place where God is not resisting it. That is Satan’s way of opposing God, for he only comes to “steal, kill and destroy” (John 10:10a). This unjust trial brought on the great change in God’s plan for mankind in that the coming of Jesus Christ was the introduction of the New Covenant in His blood, replacing the Old Covenant based on obedience to the law of Moses, a covenant of works, not faith. (This “change” was not God changing His mind and letting them crucify Jesus but a change in His plan’s operation as it moved forward to the next phase of its eternal purpose.) It had been “foreshadowed” all along by the offering of animals on an altar in the temple (Hebrews 10:1), and believing in and keeping those annual sacrifices was required. It was not a permanent solution. Jesus was crucified, and the gospel of salvation by faith in Him was reality. The last command that Jesus made to His disciples just before He ascended into heaven was to go into all the world with that message and confront people with it for their eternal salvation (Acts 1:8). Now, it has been nearly 2,000 years of that missionary effort. With that Great Commission, Jesus said, “And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). What then? We believers will be with Him, for that next big event is the coming “ingathering” of His body of believers, both the dead and those still living. As Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, “But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep [died], lest you sorrow as others who have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13). Then he continues with details of the Rapture of the saints in verses 16-17). On God’s calendar is the Feast of Trumpets, which is His “ingathering” at the last harvest of this age. How will God introduce that major change in how He relates to His body of believers? As the crucifixion of Christ and its attending rejection of truth and justice resulted in a major forward movement of God’s plan of redemption, a similar rejection of truth and justice seems to be preceding that great “ingathering” of these last days. (The following comparison of similar tactics of the opposing forces in this series of trials has many signs not unlike those of the judicial violations in the trial of Jesus Christ. I am not comparing Donald Trump to Jesus Christ on the basis of Christ’s deity. Trump is not deity; he is an Adam-based sinner like the rest of us. What is the same, unchanged since Adam, is the evilness of mankind, which shows up in the comparison of the two trains—of Jesus and that one coming, or attempted, of Donald Trump. God is sovereign, and He can name one whom He will use for His purposes years before that one even exists. Take the matter of that Persian king named Cyrus, whom Isaiah named some 200 years before he came on the scene to be God’s man. Cyrus would allow Ezra to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple in 539 B.C. Isaiah wrote his prophecy about 740 to 700 B.C. So, is it not interesting that we would come to the end of this age, and it does appear so, that God would use a man named Trump to be involved in bringing to pass that “Last Trump” as the original King James version translation of the Bible calls it? Coincidental, meaningless, or what, in the presence of a God who knows all things before they happen. This man Trump was one of the elite, supposedly a billionaire non-politician who was not likely to become a threat to the makers and owners of presidents. But then he challenged their front-runner to produce his long-form birth certificate. Wow! That put those makers and breakers into a panic to produce one, and quickly. Later, that one so targeted exclaimed just before the 2008 election, “We are just five days away from fundamentally transforming America forever!” And as he was nearing the end of his second term, he made this observation, “The end of the Republic has never looked better!” (For world control.) In considering the similar abuses of judicial practice that are repeated in the ongoing opposition to Trump, we can see the following facts:
It is reported that if he is proven guilty of all of the charges against him, the total jail time would be over 600 years! They want Trump out of circulation, no matter what it takes. He has so revealed the “scum of the DC swamp,” as he calls it, and their plan to control the world, that he must be put away. But how does this have anything to do with the end of this age? Just as the crucifixion of Christ was God’s way of introducing the New Covenant in His blood, He is, it seems, allowing a totally evil system to reveal its coming judgment as the godly members of the population are taken out of the way of that judgment. That is, the “ingathering” of the believers in Christ. The “falling away” will become “the only way” as Jesus comes and removes His representation on earth, and the lawless one takes control for his eventual termination. As soon as that happens, the prophecy of Daniel 9:26-27 comes into fulfillment. The interesting insert Paul makes with 1 Thessalonians 5:3 has a message that summarizes the next seven years for the Jewish people, it seems. Then verse 4 clinches the assurance of salvation for the believer in Christ: “But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.” So it will be, as He said. When a family begins boxing up all their belongings and stacking them in one room, you know there is a move coming in the future. When two weeks worth of clothes are being crammed into suitcases and loaded into the car, you know someone is soon leaving on vacation. There are also some other things that are a bit more ominous than these commonplace things. When troops begin to amass on the border or military equipment begins to move en masse, you know an invasion or military action of some sort is near. Luke 21:29-33 KJV – “And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” Jesus makes it clear that, as with everyday life, there are also prophetic precursors that tell us something is in the not too distant future. Today we see, for the first time in history, a coalition of nations working together that were identified by Ezekiel over 2500 years ago. Three of them, Russia, Turkey, and Iran, all have troops on the northern border of Israel, the very direction from which the Bible says they will invade. Ezekiel 38:15-17 KJV – “And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?” Ezekiel 39 tells us that God will destroy the invading nations with an earthquake, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. (Ezekiel 39:18-22) This will bring an end to Russia and the radical Islamic countries and pave the way for the beast of Revelation 13 to rise to power out of the revived Roman Empire. Three of the five nations of the Ezekiel war are already in coalition with the other two, Sudan and Libya. They are positioned on the northern border of Israel. The protesting nations to the invasion, Saudi Arabia and the Arab Gulf States, are developing relationships with Israel. When you combine all these facts, it is like seeing your neighbors box up their belongings or load camping gear on top of the car. You know what’s coming soon. Europe is about to rise to power, and the man of sin will rise up from Europe. This, too, tells that something else is going to happen soon: 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 KJV – “And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:” When Jesus said in Matthew 24 that no one knows the day or hour of His coming, He meant exactly that. No one knows the day or the hour, but that doesn’t mean nothing can be known. We know that before the lawless one can be revealed, the restraining force of the Holy Spirit through the church must be taken out of the way. Then the Spirit will allow the lawless one to rise to power. If we are seeing the nations that the Lord will destroy gathered and poised to strike Israel from the north, the protesting nations developing relationships with Israel, and Western Europe rising to power, then we know what is about to happen, even though we don’t know the day or hour. We’re about to go on a trip to the Father’s house in a moment and a twinkling of an eye! Remember, the only thing you can take on this trip is other people. So, tell someone about Jesus today! However, the massive evidence accumulating that God is about to say, “Enough of this wickedness,” convicted me to repost the heads-up to believers in Jesus Christ. Rumors of war that threaten nuclear conflict in the areas surrounding Israel, and in fact, involving our own nation, are in the hourly news headlines. We’re told that economic collapse of the world’s financial systems is inevitable, if global governance by would-be New World Order builders are not forthcoming. Sodom-like wickedness threatens to overthrow every semblance of morality, assaulting even young children in their satanic plans to reset planetary order in a direction opposite of God’s. Technology that can provide controls by Antichrist are already here, with artificial intelligence beginning to intrude upon every facet of life. The snare of Revelation 4:1 might be triggered at any moment! The Snare Is Set Beware and be aware: God is about to disrupt humanity’s present and tragic trajectory. Hal Lindsey, of The Late, Great, Planet Earth fame, called it “the great snatching up.” The mental picture is of one of those old Jungle Jim films starring Johnny Weissmuller in his post-Tarzan days. A leopard or other big cat would be stalking through a thick jungle, and suddenly it would be violently snatched up when it hit a tripping mechanism that caused a thick net to be released. After grabbing the enraged beast, the net would spring upward, keeping it trapped while it flailed mightily above the jungle floor. Jungle Jim would then have captured a leopard for a zoo or to rid the area of a human-eater. It was all very exciting for a boy of ten or so sitting in an air-conditioned movie theater munching popcorn back in those days. Catching the beast, of course, required much preparation. Jungle Jim would order his assistants—usually natives of the area—to carefully place the net flat in a jungle pathway, then camouflage it. A sapling or thick branch was then bent to provide the tremendous spring the trap would need to capture and hold a 150-pound or more leopard. With the big cat captured, the people would be safe from its prowling about and possibly attacking the most vulnerable inhabitants of the African countryside. Hal Lindsey, of course, was talking about “the great snatching-up” in reverse, so to speak. In his biblically prophetic study presented in The Late, Great, Planet Earth, he was talking about the prophecy given by Jesus as recorded by the Apostle Luke: And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. (Luke 21:34–36) In this case, the viciousness of the beast world will be left on the earth, and the people to be protected will be snatched into the air to safety. Peter the apostle said this about the one who is even now on the ground surrounding us, looking to attack: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8) The Apostle Paul told in great detail about this snatching up. The prophecy most directly pertinent is the following: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17) Harpazo, as many know, is the Greek word used in Paul’s prophecy to express this being caught up. People who live to experience the Rapture and Christians who have died during the Church Age (Age of Grace) will be caught up or snatched up. It will happen in the twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:52). This instantaneous event that removes God’s people from deadly conditions on earth, unlike ol’ Jungle Jim’s snare that leaves people on the ground safe from the leopard, takes no preparation by any humans. Jesus finished all preparation on the cross at Calvary when He said, “It is finished.” All one must do to be removed in that moment is to believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, according to Romans 10:9–10. While no preparation needs be made beyond simply accepting that call to salvation, the snare is set; it will soon leave those who rebel against God to face the “roaring lion” described above. In these commentaries over the years, we’ve gone over in depth all the signals Jesus and the prophets said would be in view at the time of this snare-like intervention into the affairs of rebellious earth-dwellers. Those indicators are literally everywhere we look, with Israel, the fig tree in prophetic symbolism, being the key sign. Spiritually attuned believers can know when that end-times generation will appear at the very end of the age. Again, we look at Scripture to see that the snare is now set that will catapult Christians to Heaven: And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. (Luke 21:28–35) Calling Good Evil: Why Christians Are Being Labeled The New Troublers Of Society – By Tim Moore - https://harbingersdaily.com/why-christians-being-labeled-as-the-new-troublers-of-society/ Are Christians the troubles of society? That’s the question that has echoed down through the ages, all the way back to when the prophet Elijah showed up at Mt. Carmel and King Ahab bitterly asked him, “Is this you, you troubler of Israel?” (1 Kings 18:17). Well, we’ve come full circle, as many in our society would label Christians as the new troubles of our society. Christians are being accused of holding back the “progress” Progressives believe they are making. All throughout the history of the Church, somewhere Christians have lived under persecution. Even the New World was founded by Christian Separatists and Puritans who needed to escape religious persecution. Americans have been so blessed since the 1600s to live in a country that historically has stood on Judeo-Christian values. Therefore, Christians in this country have felt safe. But, no longer. Many Christians in the West are not feeling particularly safe anymore. Today’s society is instead defined by people calling good evil and evil good, as Isaiah 5:20 warns. Even non-Christians have understood that for many years the Christian foundations of America have provided liberty to all. Jewish commentators such as Dennis Prager have spoken about how Christianity has been a very positive influence on society, providing both moral and legal foundations that guide how we interact as a civilization. Prager also warns that as our Judeo-Christian foundations are broken down, the result will be our society pitching over into chaos. Our society is indeed breaking down, and not just in the “crazy corners” of America, but in places that are quite surprising. Yes, for example, earlier this year, a school district by a vote of their board disassociated itself from a Christian university. The article from the New York Post reads, “Cat-ears-clad school board member says the district should not hire teachers from Christian university.” The article by Hannah Grossman of Fox News reveals that the Washington Elementary School District in Phoenix, Arizona had held a five-year contract with Arizona Christian University for student-teacher placement. One of their three LGBTQ+ board members, Tamillia Valenzuela, blasted the university over its Christian beliefs and said she was disheartened by their relationship with this Christian school. Valenzuela, who claims she is “a bilingual, disabled, neurodivergent, Queer Black Latina who loves a good hot wing,” went on to claim that people should be able to have religious freedom and practice whatever faith they have. (Yeah, right, I don’t believe her.) She went on to express her concerns regarding the Christian university and suggested it was a good time for the board to take a moment to see “where our values lie.” So here’s where our society’s values lie, according to her, despite a teacher shortage across the nation, our society’s values should not reflect Arizona Christian Universities’ “commitment to Jesus Christ, accomplishing His will and advancing on Earth as is in Heaven.” So she has a problem with Christianity having an influence in society. She goes on to reveal her bias that Christianity is hostile to LGBTQ+ people and Judeo-Christian values are hostile towards her and the other two gay board members. She supplants what the Bible would deem pagan values over biblical morality. Christianity being kicked out of school boards is not just happening in Phoenix, Arizona, but everywhere. I read in the L.A. Times about a Los Angeles community that became outraged that a church that had for years been meeting in a school facility on the weekend. The church had been renting space from the school on the weekends when there were no students or teachers present to hold their worship services. The church had invited a speaker, a lady who had self-identified as gay but had come out of that lifestyle, to testify how she felt that she had been deceived into the gay lifestyle. She recognized that to gain a right relationship with God she had to put aside the false ideology of her LGBTQ+ identity and embrace Jesus Christ. Her testimony, of course, outraged some among the leftists in Los Angeles, and they told the school they couldn’t possibly allow this church to continue meeting on school property. Although, there is clear court precedent that if the school is going to allow anybody to meet, it cannot exclude churches and religious organizations. Despite churches meeting at schools being quite legal, the school will simply disallow anyone to meet out of fear of LGBTQ+ activists and the Gospel being preached on their campus. This slide of our schools away from appreciating and adhering to our Judeo-Christian heritage goes all the way back to a Supreme Court case that pulled the Ten Commandments out of our schools. Back in 1980, the United States Supreme Court decision in Stone v. Graham struck down a Kentucky law requiring that a copy of the Ten Commandments be posted in every public school classroom. It was like the Supreme Court was saying, “We’re afraid that if the Ten Commandments were to be posted children might read them and adhere to the Ten Commandments, and we just can’t have that.” What kind of craziness denies churches from meeting in schools after hours, but allows satanic groups access? Reminds me of how before the Grammys this year, the network CBS tweeted “Let’s worship!” knowing a satanic drag song was going to be performed. And then the deputy police commissioner in Queensland, Australia linked the belief in Premillennialism with terrorism, calling it an “extremist ideology.” This stemmed from a police raid that resulted in a big shootout where two cops died, along with the whole family that was being raided. Deputy Commissioner Tracy Linford blamed the death of the police on a Christian fundamentalist belief in Premillennialism. In one fail swoop, those Christians who find hope in the promise of Jesus Christ’s soon return were lumped in with cop killers. Such an ignorant statement shows she has no idea what Premillennialism believes. We believe that Jesus Christ will return to set up His kingdom on this earth for a thousand years ushering in an age of peace, righteousness, and justice. There’s no violence in this belief whatsoever! And, the police ignored the fact that the shooter was off-balance and had a violent past. Christianity is often tied to right-wing extremism these days. Australia banned private gun ownership, so they see anything involving gun violence must be connected to Christianity. What did we see in Australia during the Pandemic? Australian society didn’t have guns to defend itself from its own government overreach. Source of the Hatred A lot of this disdain for Christianity and Christians really goes back to what the Bible says in John 3:19, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” We’re back to where man calls evil good and good evil. We’ve found ourselves in the downward phase in a society where what is good is considered evil, and therefore, Christianity must be considered evil. We certainly are there. Our public officials are turning against Christianity, and it’s happening all over the world. The entire world has become increasingly hostile to Judeo-Christian values. This reminds me of what Jesus said in John 15:18, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.” The world loves their sin and so doesn’t want to hear the Gospel. Satan is raging right now because he knows that his time is short. Let’s face it, if we think things are bad now, can you imagine what the world is going to be like when the restraining influence of the Church is removed by the Rapture? Imagine all of these corrupt officials and these pagan ideology advocates have free reign of the world. It’ll be like back to the early days of the Roman Empire after the Church had been formed. The new Christians were blamed for everything. Nero blamed the Christians for the burning of Rome. Christians were sacrificed to lions and thrown into gladiator combat. Christians were blamed for the ills of society. They were cut out of commerce and business, which is what we’re just beginning to see in our society today. So, the hatred of Christ and Christians is nothing new. The pagans hate the Lord and so they are going to hate His representatives as well. Living in a Hostile Society How do we as Christians thrive and survive in a world that is hostile to our faith? Well, first of all, we keep our focus on Jesus Christ. Trust that Jesus has overcome the world. Knowing this, we do not let our hearts be troubled. Rather, we speak out, acting as salt and light in an increasingly dark place. Until the Rapture occurs, this is our responsibility. We’re not to cower and hide, rather we’re bold about our faith and are ready to give a defense to anyone who asks why we believe what we do. Our faith is not based on opinion, rather it’s based on the Word of God, and that has power. While we are being faithful in sharing the Good News, we know that life is going to get more difficult until the moment of the Rapture. But then, heaven help those who have not placed their faith in Jesus Christ and so will live into the time of the Tribulation. They will witness the world becoming exceedingly hostile to anybody who would seek to place their faith in Christ. So, do not delay! Do not wait another day or hour. You’re not guaranteed that you will live through the Tribulation and have another opportunity to embrace Christ. And, for those of us who advocate for the Christian faith, Christians need to be advocating for and perhaps even running for office. Let’s engage the political realm so it will be filled by people who follow and adhere to the word of God and who live according to Christian principles. Christians, we are the people who have our fingers in the dam stopping it from bursting. By the Holy Spirit, we are holding back the tide of evil. But, one day soon, when the Lord takes us home, the dam is going to burst, and evil will pour out and deluge the entire world. We don’t want anybody to be left behind by the Rapture to endure those horrors, so put your trust in Jesus Christ today. We’re moving. It is the existential threat to humanity.” A month later on September 2, Biden toured the Hurricane Idalia damage in Florida and reminded reporters, “There’s no real intelligence to deny the impacts of the climate crisis anymore.” Some 1,600 scientists of the Global Climate Intelligence Group disagree. On August 14, in a jointly signed world climate declaration, 1,609 scientist from around the world said, “There is no climate emergency. Climate science should be less political, while climate policies should be more scientific. Scientists should openly address uncertainties and exaggerations in their predictions of global warming, while politicians should dispassionately count the real costs as well as the imagined benefits of their policy measures. The geological archive reveals that Earth’s climate has varied as long as the planet has existed, with natural cold and warm phases. The Little Ice Age ended as recently as 1850. Therefore, it is no surprise that we now are experiencing a period of warming.” The scientists said, “Climate policy relies on inadequate climate models. Climate models have many shortcomings and are not remotely plausible as policy tools. They do not only exaggerate the effect of greenhouse gases, they also ignore the fact that enriching the atmosphere with CO2 is beneficial.” They emphatically stated that there is no statistical evidence that global warming has increased natural disasters and concluded that “There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic and alarm. We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050.” In fact, they state that because CO2 is not a pollutant, but a plant food, “it is essential to all life on earth.” In June, 2009, The Daily Jot reported that the computers at the Hadley Climate Research Unit, the linchpin of global warming science, housed over 1,000 emails and 72 documents showing how scientists manipulated, suppressed, deleted and lied about the entire global warming theory. That was 14 years ago and the world was supposed to end in 15 years, according to some of these so-called scientists. After the great flood of Noah’s time, God promised in Genesis 8:22, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Jesus said in Matthew 24:4, “Take heed that no man deceive you.” Only God the Creator has power to destroy earth. Man is its steward. And we should not be deceived by men who are using fear to create a new religion and social order. They go out of their way to defy Him. And they are treading on dangerous ground. In the Old Testament book of Daniel, we read that King Belshazzar had all the holy vessels brought out that the Jewish people used in the worship of God. Then he filled them with wine and toasted the gods of silver and gold. He was openly mocking God and going out of his way to ridicule Him. And that was his last night on earth. He was weighed in God’s balances, and God’s judgment fell upon him. The Bible says that one of the sins we can commit against the Holy Spirit is to insult Him. Hebrews 10:29 warns, “Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us” (NLT). One function of the Holy Spirit is to present the saving work of Jesus Christ to nonbelievers. And when nonbelievers refuse to accept the Lord into their lives, they are insulting the love of God. They’re saying they don’t need salvation, they don’t believe that Christ can save them, and they don’t believe that Jesus’ work on the cross was necessary. To resist the Holy Spirit’s appeal and, therefore, to insult God, is to cut off all hope of salvation. Undoubtedly these sins lead to the ultimate sin. First people resist the Holy Spirit, then they insult Him, and one day they can go so far as to insult or blaspheme Him. The word blasphemy speaks of a conscious denouncing and rejection of God. It is a defiant irreverence, a uniquely terrible sin of intentionally and openly speaking evil against God. Yet this will be characteristic of people in the last days. The Bible says the Antichrist will go out of his way to blaspheme God. And Revelation 16 tells us that in response to God’s judgment, people “cursed the name of God, who had control over all these plagues. They did not repent of their sins and turn to God and give him glory” (verse 9 NLT). Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the unforgivable sin (see Mark 3:29). It represents not just unbelief but a determined unbelief. The Bible speaks of Esau, who had gone beyond this point of no return. Hebrews 12:17 tells us, “It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears” (NLT). It’s a fearful thing when people go out of their way to mock God, ridicule God, and insult God. They think they can do this for as long as they want, without any penalty. But ultimately it will catch up with them. And the worst thing of all is they can cross the line and commit the unforgivable sin.
