The books of Daniel and Revelation tell us that in the years prior to the Second Coming, a vicious and exceedingly evil world empire will emerge and briefly rule over the nations. The Apostle Paul describes its leader as the "man of lawlessness" who will defile a Jewish temple in Jerusalem before Jesus destroys him at His at His return to earth (2 Thessalonians 2:3-10). Do we see evidence today of Satan's minions preparing the way for the antichrist to enslave humanity? Absolutely! It’s like a bear coming out of hibernation. The beast kingdom is gaining strength throughout the world, just as Scripture said would happen in the last days. For over a century, the globalists have been putting the pieces in place for the coming new world order. Now it’s coming to fruition. The majority of people do not want the luciferin agenda of the elite powerbrokers of our day, but that doesn’t matter. They will impose their will on the unsuspecting, slowly but surely. They will do so through many dangerous delusions that will turn deadly: DELUSION #1: THE GLOBALISTS DESIRE A WORLDWIDE DEMOCRACY Peter Koenig, a geopolitical analyst and a former Senior Economist at the World Bank and the World Health Organization (WHO), wrote the following about the January 2023 World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos: Criticism and even ridicule of the WEF’s dictatorial and dystopian approach to the world’s problems has reached in 2023 a new pinnacle. Though the words “democracy” and “freedom” are always in the forefront, they are hardly applied. They are merely the deed of nonstop propaganda for something that isn’t. And as Goebbels, Hitler’s Propaganda Minister, said already almost 80 years ago, “If a lie is often enough repeated, it becomes the truth”. This false truth has brainwashed almost every Western citizen. We are being gradually enslaved while still believing we are living in a democracy. The WEF is part of the steady flow of propaganda but also a master tyrant, in the person of Klaus Schwab and his Israeli top adviser, “You useless eaters”, Mr. Yuval Noah Harari.[i] The elite of our day tell us their true aim is “democracy” and “freedom.” However, their true intent is a totalitarian Marxist one world government. A video appeared on the WEF website that I watched many times in the past. It pictured a happy young man as a voice told us that in the future, “You will own nothing and be happy.” That’s the true objective of the globalists and it rings of servitude, not freedom. DELUSION #2: DIGITAL CURRENCIES WILL BE ADVANTAGEOUS Ten nations have already implemented digital currencies with another one hundred considering such a move. Many predict that a central bank digital currency (CBDC) will arrive in America during 2023. During their initial appearing, the elite will showcase the advantages of CBDCs. They will increase the speed and accuracy of electronic financial transactions and provide much improved protection against fraud. Many will welcome the introduction of a CBDC, especially during its initial, and perhaps limited, implementation. It may seem like using a debit card. However, there’s a huge downside to CBDCs via their programable feature. This will not only give the state access to all financial transactions, but also enable it, perhaps at a later date, to penalize people for spending their allotted funds in socially unacceptable ways. The CBDCs are a trap; many who bemoan the idea of a totalitarian state will find themselves subjected to one against their will as they discover far too late that a future government entity decides the amount of funds available to them and prescribes how they spend them. DELUSION #3: VACCINE PASSPORTS WILL ONLY STORE MEDICAL INFORMATION Another item high on the agenda at the January WEF gathering was the matter of vaccine passports. The objective of the attendees is to have the vaccine status of everyone in the world digitally available in the form of a passport. This might seem reasonable to a few, but it’s also a ruse for the globalists to gather data on everyone and then later use that information to control them. The ultimate goal of the globalists' is to combine ones vaccine information with all other personal data including financial transactions from the CBDCs. The passport will connect everyone to a massive database where all there is to know about everyone will be readily available to the elite. Below is a quote from a Townhall article concerning vaccine passports: Even liberal author Naomi Wolf understands the dangers that vaccine passports represent. She says that if these plans are implemented, it will mean “the end of human liberty in the West.” Wolf believes the real threat is the government’s access to the personal data of millions of Americans. According to Wolf, a vaccine passport will lead to the “the end of civil society….it has the power to turn off your life, or to turn on your life, to let you engage in society or be marginalized.”[ii] What the globalists peddle as “democracy” will lead to the end of “human liberty” and vaccine passports will play a key role in the loss of freedoms. The abusive use of information will become especially nightmarish for those left behind after the Rapture. Vaccine passports, along with the CBDC’s, will enable the "man of lawlessness" to control all buying and selling throughout the world. DELUSION #4: THE PANDEMIC TREATY WILL BE BENEFICIAL IN STOPPING PANDEMICS The World Health Organization (WHO) met a week before the 2,700 powerbrokers descended upon Davos, Switzerland. High on their agenda was discussion of a Pandemic Treaty. They sell this as something that will result in a prompt and unified response to future pandemics. However, if approved by member nations during their May 2023 meeting, it would give the WHO and its head absolute control over member nations in regard to what he deems as a health emergency. Should the WHO declare such a crisis, they would prescribe a mandatory course of action for everyone. It wouldn't matter if the president of a nation disagreed, the dictates of the WHO would become law in his or her country. Should a U.S. governor say "No!" to the WHO mandates, that also wouldn't matter. The WHO would have the power to militarily enforce compliance with its health dictates. Those not deceived by the agenda and techniques of the WEF won’t be able to resist the mandates of the WHO. Make no mistake: the globalists are liars and coldhearted murderers just like the spirit that’s leading them (John 8:44). The Pandemic Treaty, if approved, will kill many more people than it will protect. DELUSION #5: DEFEATING RUSSIA IN UKRAINE WILL LEAD TO PEACE The globalists tell us we must defeat Russia in Ukraine, but don’t explain why that’s better than directly attacking them. Why put its people in the middle of such a conflict? Could it be that real reason for the conflict is to weaken American, which is an outcome celebrated in many posts on the WEF website? The war in Ukraine has already drained America's supply of military assets and greatly weakened its ability to respond if attacked. President Biden, just this week, announced that the U.S. will send thirty-one advanced Abrams tanks to Ukraine, which will further agitate an already furious Putin. What better way to provoke WW III and appear to be the victim rather than the aggressor? Leo Hohmann recently wrote an excellent article entitled America 2023: Sleepwalking into World War III. Here’s a quote from it: China and Russia are both in full-on war mode, mobilizing their economies, their armies and navies for World War III with America. Notice I said “America.” Not “NATO.” NATO is America and America is NATO along with its vassal states. NATO has always been built upon American power. The problem is America has lost its power and any that remains is largely about perception, not reality. Once the world figures this out, it’s game over. Once they see that the Emperor has no clothes, that it’s all smoke and mirrors — and the balloon incident has started to open people’s eyes — they will be shocked at how weak America actually is. While it might sound reasonable to many, the ruse that we must defeat Russia in Ukraine has become a key factor in the weakening of America’s military and an invitation for a much greater conflict. How much longer can the U.S. president keep poking Putin in the eye without a devastating response for both America and Europe? HOPE For those of us in Christ, we have joyous hope! I cannot end such an ominous post without turning all our eyes upward. Please remember that God controls all the outcomes of those plotting to destroy humanity. What the Bible long ago said would happen in the last days is happening before our eyes. The Lord declares the “end from the beginning” and He “will accomplish” His “purpose” despite the deadly and vile agenda of the wicked (Isaiah 46:8-11). I believe the Lord is warning mankind (and the church) that He’s coming soon. He’s giving the world glimpses of what the devastation will look like during the Tribulation. With everything that’s happened in 2023, or even in just the past two weeks, I can’t imagine we will have to wait much longer for Jesus’ appearing, but as always, the timing rests in God’s sovereignty. During these perilous times when deadly delusions increase in popularity and biblical truth seems nowhere to be found, it’s vital that we keep our hope focused on Jesus’ imminent appearing. It’s passages such as 1 Corinthians 15:50-55, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, Philippians 3:20-21, and Colossians 3:1-4 that encourage me on almost a daily basis and keep me from despair as I watch what’s happening in America and around the world. The Middle East Turkey and Syria Face a Monumental Task Clean-up in Turkey and Syria continues following the historic earthquakes of ten days ago. Miraculously, survivors are still being pulled from the rubble. But those stories are becoming fewer as nearly all of those found now add to the death toll that has already exceeded 41,000. The incredible devastation can be attributed to two primary factors. First, the shallowness of the quake enhanced the violence of the earth’s movement. Second, poor building construction was rampant leaving houses, apartments, and high-rises all susceptible to collapse. A police task force in Turkey is already making arrests as investigations into the shoddy work has begun. As evidence that evil finds every opportunity, earthquake aid that is being sent to an already war-ravaged Aleppo, Syria, is being taken by pro-Iranian militias before it has a chance to get to those who need it. Russia Continues its Attack as Moscow Prepares for Major Offensive In a scene reminiscent of World War II, Kyiv’s citizens took refuge in the subway from another massive cruise missile attack by Russia. More than 100 missiles targeted cities across the nation last Friday, while suicide drones made strategic attacks on factories and electrical stations. Norwegian intelligence has reported that for the first time in 30 years, ships and submarines of Russia’s Northern Fleet are carrying nuclear weapons. Many are keeping their eyes on high level meetings that are taking place in Moscow, wondering if an official declaration of war may be the result. Factoring in the decision are, first, the deep involvement of NATO countries arming Ukraine as if it is already a member nation. The second factor is the revelation of the likely involvement of the US, UK, and Norway in the explosions that sabotaged the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines. The next nine days will be crucial. Russian Cruise Missiles Bring Down Moldovan Government Two of Friday’s Russian cruise missiles crossed through Romanian and Moldovan airspace on their way to Ukraine. That provocation was the straw that broke the back of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita’s government, which was already weakened by rampant inflation and an Moscow-induced energy crisis. In announcing her resignation, she said that no one expected her government “would have to manage so many crises caused by Russian aggression in Ukraine.” As President Maia Sandu nominated Gavrilita’s replacement, she leveled an accusation against Moscow of planning a pro-Russian coup in Moldova in order to establish a government that would be loyal to the Kremlin. Russian General Found Shot Dead A month ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin sacked 67-year-old Major General Vladimir Makarov from his position as deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s Main Directorate for Combating Extremism. On Monday, he was found shot dead of an apparent suicide. But the word ‘apparent’ is very important, because Makarov is just the latest in a series of deaths of those who have gotten on the wrong side of the president. Businessmen, politicians, and military personnel are all represented on the list of those who have plunged from buildings, fallen off cliffs, and tumbled down stairs. Several, just in the last year, have been found murdered along with their spouses and children. Others, like General Makarov, may or may not have taken their own lives. Groundwork Laid with Sudan for Building a Red Sea Russian Military Base In the latest Ezekiel 38 war sighting, Khartoum has reached an understanding with Moscow for building a Russian military base on Sudan’s Red Sea coast. In return, the African country would be supplied with weapons and military equipment. All that is left is for the Sudanese government to approve the agreement. Unfortunately for Russia, that might be a while. Sudan has not had an official government since the military overthrow of Omar al-Bashir in April 2019 and a subsequent military coup in October 2021. According to the prophet Ezekiel, Sudan is one of the nations that will join Russia in its attack on Israel. Palestinian Terrorist Drives Car into Crowded Israeli Bus Stop Evil reared its ugly head on Friday when a Palestinian terrorist intentionally drove a car into a crowded Jerusalem bus stop, killing three. A 20-year-old man and a six-year-old boy were killed on the spot. The boy’s eight-year-old brother, who had been rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, died the next day. The 31-year-old terrorist was shot and killed. The brutal attack was celebrated in Palestinian streets with singing, dancing, and the passing out of treats. Israel Begins Shipping Oil from Karish Oil/Gas Field Israel joined the oil exporters club this past week by loading crude from the Karish field and sending it on its way to Europe. In a related story, Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to express the nation’s condolences over the earthquake, and to discuss, among other things, the possibility of exporting natural gas through Turkey to Europe. Hacktivists Interrupt Televised Speech by Iranian President The Iranian hacktivist group Edalat-e Ali (“Ali’s Justice”) on Saturday interrupted President Ebrahim Raisi’s live televised speech in which he was celebrating the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. After breaking into the broadcast, a masked figure called for widespread demonstrations to be held today, February 16, while the phrase “Death to Khamenei” was displayed in a graphic. Lebanese Lira Reaches All-Time Low In this week’s episode of “As the Lira Plunges”, the Lebanese currency on Tuesday reached a record low 74,000 to the US dollar. Citizens have begun burning banks as a result of their anger and frustration. As long as the Hezbollah terrorists have Lebanon’s government tightly in their grip, the tragic destruction of the country will continue. Train Derailment Causes Ecological Disaster in United States While everyone in America had their eyes trained on the sky looking for balloons, an ecological disaster of epic proportions was taking place on the ground. On February 3, a Norfolk Southern Railroad train consisting of three engines and 150 cars derailed near East Palestine, Ohio. Eleven of the cars that were damaged were carrying hazardous chemicals, which began to drain into two nearby streams. Three days after the accident, a controlled burn of the chemicals was initiated to prevent an explosion. Since the derailment, fish are turning up dead and other animal species are showing evidence of harm. Almost two weeks later, people’s eyes are still burning and the entire town has a foul smell to it. While the government is saying everything is okay, the people aren’t buying it and they are demanding answers. China Considers Tripling Nuclear Arsenal As tensions rise with the US over Taiwan, China is considering tripling its stockpile of nuclear warheads. This would raise the country’s total to 900, which is still less than 20% of what either Russia or the US owns. New Zealand Gets Washed Out by Cyclone Cyclone Gabrielle slammed into New Zealand on Monday, bringing massive amounts of rain that took four lives and has left widespread flooding. Why Is This Happening? That is a question that a lot of people are asking these days. Could it be possible that our trains are being targeted on purpose? Right off the top, I want to acknowledge that train derailments are fairly common. As the Biden administration has been reminding us, on average we normally see more than 1,000 train derailments each year. But the vast majority of them are relatively minor incidents that cause no harm. In fact, prior to this month I can’t remember the last time a train derailment made headline news all over the nation. According to the Federal Railroad Administration, railroads are typically the safest method for transporting hazardous chemicals… America’s railroads move a lot of chemicals. Freight trains moved 2.2 million carloads of chemicals in 2021, according to the Association of American Railroads. This is in large part because railroads are considered the safest mode of transportation to carry large amounts of hazardous materials, including chemicals, for long distances across the country, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. If something causes a train that is carrying hazardous materials to slip off the tracks, that is not going to cause a disaster. In order to cause a disaster, something really unusual needs to happen, and unfortunately we have seen several such incidents in recent days. The following are five major train derailments that we have witnessed in the United States so far this month… On February 1st, a leak of limestone slurry was detected after a train derailed in Talladega County, Alabama… On February 1, a train derailed in Talladega County, Alabama, just off Highway 21 in the Sycamore area, WIAT-TV reported. According to the Talladega County Emergency Management Agency, one of the cars was leaking limestone slurry but there was no hazardous material threat, and no injuries were reported. On February 3rd, one of the worst environmental catastrophes in U.S. history was caused when a train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio… The train, which derailed on Feb. 3, was carrying hazardous materials, including at least five tanker cars of vinyl chloride, a colorless but hazardous and carcinogenic gas used to produce PVC plastic and vinyl products. In addition to vinyl chloride, the train was also carrying “butyl acrylate, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, ethylhexyl acrylate and isobutylene”… In a remedial action work plan that the Norfolk Southern Railway Company submitted to the EPA on Feb. 10, the company said that the train cars that derailed contained several other hazardous materials, including butyl acrylate, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, ethylhexyl acrylate and isobutylene. Two cars also had benzene residue. On February 13th, “100 gallons of diesel fuel were released” when a train derailed not too far from Houston, Texas… On February 13, a Union Pacific train collided with an 18-wheeler near Splendora, Texas, killing the driver and derailing 21 rail cars, according to the Splendora Police Department. Union Pacific spokesperson Robynn Tysver told Houston Public Media that its hazmat crews were on site, as an estimated 100 gallons of diesel fuel were released in the crash. Also on February 13th, a train derailed in Enoree, South Carolina… A CSX train derailed Feb. 13 in Spartanburg County, but no one was injured, the railroad company said. Three cars derailed around 6:15 a.m. on an industrial spur track near U.S. Highway 221 in Enoree, according to a statement from CSX. On February 16th, a train that had “one car of hazardous materials” derailed near Detroit, Michigan… A train containing one car of hazardous materials has derailed Thursday in Van Buren Township outside Detroit, Michigan, reports say. The cause of the derailment was not immediately clear. Police told Fox2 Detroit that there were no injuries and the area is not a hazmat situation. Is it possible that these trains are being specifically targeted by someone? Yes, it is certainly possible. But it could also be possible that we are taking note of other derailments now because we don’t want to see a repeat of what just happened in Ohio. According to CBS News, authorities are publicly admitting that thousands of animals have already died in East Palestine… Thousands of animals have died in East Palestine, Ohio, in the aftermath of the train derailment that sent numerous hazardous substances into the surrounding area. Officials said on Tuesday that in the immediate days following the Feb. 3 incident, there were 3,500 dead fish as local waterways, including the Ohio River, became contaminated. During the incident, 38 train cars derailed, including several cars that were carrying hazardous materials that each pose a set of their own health risks. On the day of the derailment, there was evidence that one of the train cars was releasing vinyl chloride, a known carcinogen that has been linked to a rare and “exceptionally deadly” form of liver cancer. When authorities made the choice to burn the vinyl chloride, they knew that it would create lots of phosgene gas. And as a lawsuit that has just been filed notes, phosgene gas is a chemical weapon that was widely used in World War I… The suit alleges that burning vinyl chloride creates phosgene gas, a chemical warfare agent used in World War One that has been banned by the Geneva Convention. “I’m not sure Norfolk Southern could have come up with a worse plan to address this disaster,” said attorney John Morgan. “Residents exposed to vinyl chloride may already be undergoing DNA mutations that could linger for years or even decades before manifesting as terrible and deadly cancers. The lawsuit alleges that Norfolk Southern made it worse by essentially blasting the town with chemicals as they focused on restoring train service and protecting their shareholders.” So many people that breathed that stuff in are going to get cancer and die. It is truly a terrible, terrible tragedy. Of course we have entered a time in history when terrible tragedies will be a common occurrence. I don’t know if you have noticed, but our world has become less safe in a whole host of different ways. And the current crop of politicians that is running things is the worst that we have ever had in the entire history of our nation. So things are not going to be getting better any time soon. I would encourage you to plan accordingly. The Rapture: One Second Before and One Second After! – Olivier Melnick - https://www.newantisemitism.com/antisemitism/the-rapture-one-second-before-and-one-second-after One of the most talked about subjects in the Bible is the rapture. People have many opinions on the topic, to be sure. From myth to reality, from literal to allegorical – and everything in between. However, when believed to be literal, it is then placed all over the eschatological spectrum. Did it already happen? Will it happen before the tribulation? During the tribulation? After? In other words…there are more views about the rapture than we can shake a stick at. I don’t intend to write another article defending the pre-tribulation and pre-millennial rapture, but here we go. I will state my position from the start and assert that the rapture will occur before the Time of Jacob’s Trouble (the Great Tribulation) begins. Incidentally, there is more than one Rapture mentioned in the Bible. Including the Rapture of the Believers, there are possibly eight different Raptures. Enoch was raptured in Genesis 5:24, Elijah was taken up in 2 Kings 2:11-12, and Yeshua was caught up in Revelation 12:5. Philip (Acts 8:39-40) and Paul (2 Corinthians 123:1-4) were temporarily raptured. John was possibly raptured in Revelation 4:1-2, the believers will be raptured according to 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and finally, the two witnesses in Revelation 11:11-12. So, the future Rapture of the believers is one of several, but definitely the most important in the history of mankind. Taking a pre-tribulational and pre-millennial position, when we read 1 Corinthians 15:52, “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed,” we are told of a “last trumpet.” Many will argue that this is a reference to the last trumpet in God’s prophetic program as in Revelation 11:15. In 1 Corinthians 15:52, the subject is the Church being caught up in the sky to be with Yeshua. The trumpet of God’s grace sounds to announce that event. It also connects to the Tekiah Gedolah or last trumpet of the Feast of Rosh Hashanah (this doesn’t necessitate for the Rapture to happen on Rosh Hashanah. It could, but it doesn’t have to). On the other hand, the trumpet in Revelation 11:15 is within a different context. It relates to a fallen, rebellious world and the judgment of sinners and is part of a progressive series of judgments during the Great Tribulation. There is no thematic connection between 1 Corinthians 15:52 and Revelation 11:15. Two more pressing questions must be answered: What happens one second BEFORE the Rapture? Since the Rapture is imminent (John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10, 5:4-9; 1 Corinthians 1:7; 1 John 3:2-3), anything can be happening one second before the Rapture. There is absolutely no exact sign that we can expect before the Rapture. Some people call it “signless. It could happen at any moment. In his book Kept from the Hour, Gerald Stanton defines the imminence of the Rapture as follows: “The certainty that He may come at any moment, the uncertainty of the time of that arrival, and the fact that no prophesied event stands between the believer and that hour.” Other events may happen before the Rapture, but certainly not because they must happen. Too often, those who believe in the pre-millennial rapture of the church try to pinpoint exactly when that is expected. However, they probably have the rapture and second coming confused. It is easy to identify the timing of the Second Coming since it will happen at the end of the Seven-Year Tribulation. At the Rapture, Yeshua gets the believers and takes us to Heaven, and He never touches the ground. At the Second Coming, He touches the ground and splits the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4) as He returns with the believers. In other words, nobody knows the moment of the Rapture, so we’d better be ready. Live like it could happen any second, but plan like it won’t. Those of us who believe in an imminent pre-tribulational Rapture should not adopt an attitude of escapism, but we should double up our efforts to speak the Gospel truth to those who don’t yet have a personal relationship with Yeshua. What happens one second AFTER the Rapture? This is the real question to focus on because Yeshua Airlines consists of only one flight up, and that’s it. Once we fly away, whoever is left behind will have to deal with the consequences triggered by the Great Tribulation one way or another. The Great Tribulation, also known as the Time of Jacob’s Trouble (Jeremiah 30:7), will last seven years (Daniel 9:26-27). It is a time when God will refocus His program on Israel and the Jewish people. Sadly, the result of that period is that two-thirds of the Jewish people will perish (Zechariah 13:8-9). The most intense trouble doesn’t start until the Tribulation’s mid-point when the Antichrist reveals His true nature and demands to be worshipped. That is also when people will take the mark of the beast or refuse it. The sad truth about that time is that one second after the Rapture, it is too late for people to escape the upcoming wrath of God. It is not too late to refuse the mark of the beast and not worship the Antichrist, but that will almost certainly result in people suffering great harm and dying as Tribulation martyrs. It could all have been avoided if they had been Raptured. Ultimately the choice is ours. We are not coerced into anything; we are just invited to trust that Yeshua is the Messiah, the Son of the living God, and the Savior of the world. One second before or one second after seems like nothing, yet it makes all the difference in the world. Will you be on the flight, or will you go through the fight? This is a flight you shouldn’t miss, but this will be a gruesome fight you might not win. Are We Supposed to Watch for Signs? – Todd Hampson - https://toddhampson.com/news/are-we-supposed-to-watch-for-signs/ We are told in 1 Chronicles 12:32 that the leaders of Issachar “understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do.” The wise men from the east (Matthew 2), the godly old man Simeon (Luke 2), and the old prophetess Anna (Luke 2) all understood the timeframe of the Lord’s first arrival, and their amazing stories are recorded for us in Scripture. We also find that Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and the crowds of people for not knowing the signs of their day. To the scribes and Pharisees He said,“Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?” (Matthew 16:3). To the crowds he said, “You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky,but why do you not analyze this present time?” (Luke 12:56). On one occasion, as Jesus and His disciples were leaving the temple in Jerusalem, He informed them that the beautiful temple and surrounding buildings they were admiring would one day be completely destroyed. Later, His disciples approached Jesus wanting to understand more. In Matthew 24:3 we read, “As [Jesus] was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, ‘Tell us, when will these things happen,and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?’” Rather than rebuke them or downplay the question, Jesus gave them a full chapter’s worth of signs followed by another full chapter of related parables. This central teaching by Jesus regarding the end times signs is recorded in three of the four gospels—in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. The apostle Paul, whom God used to take Christianity to the Gentiles, realized that the church age was the last age or era before the rapture and the terrible tribulation period. He tells us in Romans 13:11–12, “Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” If this was true in Paul’s day, it’s even truer today since almost 2000 years have passed. Paul also admonished believers to be watchful and ready. Finally, the book of Hebrews provides the insight that those living close to Jesus’ return will be able to recognize that they are in the season of the Lord’s return. Consider the bold statement in the latter part of Hebrews 10:25 where we read, “not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Clearly, believers at the end of the church age will be able to understand when they are living in the season of the Lord’s return. A careful study of Scripture demonstrates that believers are instructed to watch for the Lord’s return and understand their times. After all, first-century believers were vibrant and joyful, and the church was rapidly expanding. But he made a point of reminding us that they studied God’s Word together. In chapter 2 he wrote, “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer” ( verse 42 NLT). It could have been a temptation for the first-century believers to look back with great fondness on Pentecost and say, “Why can’t every service be like Pentecost? Remember the Spirit coming upon us and the divided flames of fire? Remember all the languages we spoke in?” Though Pentecost was the explosion that started the engine, it was time to drive the car. And the early church reveled in the Word of God. What is true of the church should be true of us as individuals. If you have no interest in the Bible, if you find it boring, then maybe you should ask yourself whether you know God as you really ought to. The Bible is alive and powerful. Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” (NLT). Martin Luther said, “The Bible is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays hold on me.” A trend in the church today is to disregard or marginalize the study of Scripture. The first-century church, however, studied doctrine. And if we’re not careful with our doctrine, we might end up loving the wrong Jesus or believing the wrong things. The early church loved the Word of God. And so should we.
