We most assuredly live in biblical times. The convergence of signs is like that of the grand finale of a fireworks show that noisily illuminates the sky with its bright display of colors. Yet sadly, many believers and pastors turn their heads and walk away from the spectacle telling themselves and others, “There’s nothing to see here.”
 
I also believe the words of Proverbs 1:20 apply here:
 
Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice.
 
The myriad of signs, along with the voices of many students of Bible prophecy, sound the alarm regarding the nearness of the Tribulation. Wisdom continues to cry out with the message that Jesus is coming soon, but so few are paying attention.
 
A few months ago, I wrote about the blindness to such things in How Can You Not See? I still wonder how those who know Scripture can remain asleep and unaware of the signs that point to the nearness of Jesus’ appearing.
 
Now my question has progressed to: “How much longer can it be before Jesus catches us up to meet Him in the air?”
 
Below are several reasons that cause me to ask this question.
 
THE RUSH TO DIVIDE ISRAEL
 
When I look at Israel on a world map, I need to put on my reading glasses and even then it’s difficult to discern the nation’s boundaries. Most countries this small receive little or no attention on the world stage. However, almost all the world leaders are now focused on both Israel and Jerusalem.
 
The Bible predicted this would happen at the time of the end (Zechariah 12:1-3). The U.S. and other nations have become preoccupied with settling the Palestinian matter, believing this will magically bring peace to the entire region.
 
During his speech at the UN, President Biden called for a two-state solution as the path toward peace in the region. When he met with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu seemed willing to go along with it to a limited degree, perhaps as part of the deal with Saudi Arabia that Netanyahu now predicts will become a reality sometime in early 2024.
 
The rush to divide Israel tells us that the Tribulation period is ever so near because it will be during this time that the Lord will judge the nations that cut up His Land (Joel 3:1-3). Those with a passion to provide a state for the Palestinians are fulfilling biblical prophecy; God said this would happen at the time of the end.
 
THE PUSH FOR DIGITAL CURRENCIES
 
Another telling sign that speaks to the nearness of the Tribulation is the push for digital currencies.
 
During the September 2023 meeting of the G-20 nations in New Delhi, India, the leaders “agreed to a plan to eventually impose digital currencies and digital IDs on their respective populations, amid concern that governments might use them to monitor their people's spending and crush dissent.” This pact includes a pledge “to build the necessary infrastructure to implement digital currencies and IDs.”[1]
 
The antichrist needs such a system in place by the midpoint of the Tribulation in order to control the buying and selling throughout the world (Revelation 13:16-18). He won’t be able to do this if it’s possible for people to use cash or write checks for their purchases.
 
In America, the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is coming by way of the Federal Reserve’s FedNow, which has gone live. Many major banks are now participating in the program, which makes the transferring of money immediate.
 
David Bowen, in his article, FedNow Goes Live, Paving The Way To A Central Bank Digital Currency on the Harbingers Daily website, wrote this about the matter:
 
The Federal Reserve claims this is the alternative to a CBDC — a Central Bank Digital Currency. But really, what this is a stepping stone to a CBDC. Once the public gets more comfortable with the speed of FedNow and the system is accepted as the standard procedure, you’ll get a Central Bank Digital Currency.
 
The inevitable collapse of the economy in the U.S. will speed up the path to a CBDC in America, which will quickly become a unified worldwide currency during the Tribulation if not before it starts.
 
THE THREAT OF WORLD WAR III
 
After we are in glory with Jesus, He will open seven seals on what I believe is His title deed to all the kingdoms of this world (Revelation 6:1-8). The text tells us that war will be a factor in the killing of one fourth of the earth’s population.
 
Do we see such a deadly conflict on the horizon? Yes, we do.
 
Author, blogger, and researcher Michael Snyder recently wrote this about our blindness to this threat:
 
Most Americans have absolutely no idea how close we are to the unthinkable. Even though leaders all over the globe have developed a really bad case of war fever, the vast majority of us here in the United States are entirely convinced that everything will be okay somehow. Most of us believe the talking heads on television when they assure us that our politicians have everything under control and that it is extremely unlikely that a nuclear conflict will happen. But on the other side of the globe they see things very differently. On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the United Nations that the world is being pushed to the brink of the “final war“…[2]
 
Snyder quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as publicly stating “that the U.S. is conducting a ‘war’ against Russia” with its support of Ukraine.[3] In the past several weeks, I have read several accounts of Russian officials warning the U.S. of a nuclear attack because of its support of Ukraine’s war effort.
 
Then we have the threat from China. Snyder quoted Gatestone Institute senior fellow and China expert Gordon Chang regarding this threat:
 
We’re much closer to a nuclear exchange than Americans think. China is preparing to go to war… China is surveying the United States for nuclear weapons strikes, so we’ve got to realize the gravity of this. The problems inside the Chinese regime right now indicate that Xi Jinping in the rocket force, which controls almost all of China’s nuclear weapons, he’s now installing officers who will obey his orders to push the button when he gives it.[4]
 
It's remarkable that Biden’s support of Ukraine has not yet boiled over into a Russian attack on America. Just this week we heard news of U.S. Abram Tanks heading to Ukraine and Biden’s plan to supply the nation with long range missiles. Unless Vladimir Putin has the patience of Job, these things will lead to a direct attack on America.
 
UFOS AND ALIENS
 
This may seem like an unusual sign of the end times, however, the wide acceptance of extraterrestrial life along with many governments acknowledging their existence demonstrates the increased activity of Satan to explain our sudden disappearance.
 
I have watched a few prophecy updates from Pastor Brandon Holthaus on this matter; his insights demonstrate the progress that the devil has already made in perpetuating this deception. In one of his videos, he quoted a U.S. Navy pilot as saying that “UFO sightings are an everyday occurrence.”
 
A short clip of an interview I heard on Twitter last week confirms the wide acceptance of alien life among the elite of our day, or more likely, their willingness to perpetuate this deception. Yuval Noah Harari, bestselling author and confidant of Klaus Schwab from the World Economic Forum (WEF), predicted the end of human dominated history because of an upcoming alien invasion. “History will continue with somebody else in control,” he said.
 
Why has Harari changed from advocating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and transhumanism as the future of mankind to that of one dominated by extraterrestrials? Does this surprising turn in his thinking not show just how far the Luciferian globalists are willing to go in preparing the world for our disappearance at the time of the Rapture?
 
Did you also notice the Harari, like so many others, naturally assume that the aliens are far more advanced than humans in both intelligence and technology? They must create this illusion so that people believe they are capable of making tens of millions instantly disappear.
 
THE UN’S SEVEN-YEAR COMMITMENT
 
On September 18-19, 2023, a majority of member nations at the UN committed to a seven-year plan of accelerated growth to implement the 17 Strategic Development Goals (SDGs) of Agenda 2030. Although significant, let me quickly point out that this is NOT the covenant that the antichrist will make with Israel as prophesied in Daniel 9:27.
 
What this demonstrates is the determination of the world’s leaders to set up a one world government that controls the lives of those it will enslave. It’s very clear that both the WEF and UN long for this totalitarian regime and want it in place by 2030.
 
It also tells us that things are going as well as the globalists would like. Although they achieved some progress through the COVID-19 scare and are seeking to make climate change a factor in bringing the nations together, things are not progressing as well as they had hoped.
 
On the fifth page of the document, we are told that there is an “urgent need to take the actions necessary to reverse declines and accelerate progress to achieve the 2030 Agenda and implement the SDGs.”[5]
 
Author and friend Terry James addressed this shortfall in his excellent article, The Crisis. He credited the Lord’s resistance with stalling the elite’s objectives to achieve their desired dominance. The calamity they need will come via the Rapture, which will happen according to God’s timing, not theirs.
 
The disappearance of so many people will give the globalists the emergency they crave. As the alien deception takes hold after the Rapture, the nations will readily join together to fight what they regard as a common enemy. In his interview, Harari stated that a united world would have a much better chance of resisting an extraterrestrial invasion.
 
The following quote from the UN’s SDGs meeting seems to say that such an emergency such as caused by the Rapture would lead to greater control by the UN:
 
On that page the UN openly admits that one of the purposes of [its 2024] “the Summit of the Future” is to “put in place a stronger international response playbook for complex global shocks, maximizing the use of the Secretary-General’s convening power in the form of an Emergency Platform”.[6]
 
There’s a sense of urgency in the statements coming from the UN. Is it because they are falling behind on their goals? Or do they know a great crisis looms in the future?
 
DAYS OF NOAH AND LOT
 
The Lord predicted that the end times would resemble the days of Noah (Matthew 24:36-39) and of Lot (Luke 17:28-29), and that is precisely what we see.
 
The Bible doesn’t provide us with details of the violence in Noah’s day, which was one of the factors that led to the flood (Genesis 6:13). However, I believe that the abortions, sex trafficking, and sacrificing of young children in satanic rituals in the U.S. must at least rival the violence prevalent in the world before the flood. These things also tell us that the wickedness of our day far exceeds that of Sodom and Gomorrah. It’s not even close.
 
I believe the U.S. in particular is dangling by a very thin thread over a pit of destruction; we have long passed the day where we as a nation should have collapsed economically or ignited a deadly war with Russia or China. The Lord is sovereignly holding back these things until the time is right for His judgment.
 
There’s coming a day when all of us who trust Jesus as our Savior will instantly vanish and not long after that, all of God’s current restraints will suddenly evaporate and sudden destruction will fall upon the earth (1 Thessalonians 5:1-10).
 
How much longer can it be before we appear in glory with our Savior (Colossians 3:4)? I believe it’s very close.
 
On the other hand, I don’t know for sure how much longer it will be until Jesus takes us home to glory. Perhaps we will face increasing affliction in the coming months or during 2024.
 
However, we must also avoid thinking that the Rapture cannot happen today or in the very near future. Such is the new date-setting error of so many Christians today who assume that that it won’t happen in their lifetime.
 
 Maranatha! Perhaps today!

It is more than twenty years since then US President George W. Bush first identified an "axis of evil" of rogue states that threatened global security, and now a new alliance of malign states is taking shape with Russia and China acting as its new lynchpins.
 
Back in 2002, when Bush first articulated his notion of rogue nations in his State of the Union address made in the wake of the September 11 attacks, he identified Iraq, Iran and North Korea as states that, together with their terrorist allies, "constitute an axis of evil...by seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger."
 
At the time, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, whose regime had actively sought to acquire an arsenal of nuclear and biological weapons, was seen as posing the gravest threat to Western democracy, a threat which was finally nullified in 2003 after the US-led coalition succeeded in overthrowing his regime.
 
Now, twenty years after Hussein's overthrow, a new axis of evil is forming, with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin replacing Hussein as the leaders who pose the greatest threat to global security.
 
Indeed, as the leaders of countries that possesses the world's largest arsenal of nuclear warheads, Xi and Putin constitute a far greater threat to our wellbeing than Hussein ever did.
 
Like Hussein, who during his rule launched invasions of Iran and Kuwait, Xi and Putin share a similar disregard for the sovereignty of neighboring states.
 
Xi has been eyeing the South and East China Seas, coopting the Solomon Islands, building and militarizing his own artificial islands, and threatening not only Taiwan, but neighbors such as Australia, India and Japan.
 
Putin seized and occupied territory in Georgia in 2008, and Ukraine in 2014 (Crimea) and 2023, not to mention his relentless bellicosity towards the Baltic states and eastern Europe.
 
Unlike Hussein, though, Xi's and Putin's ability to achieve their territorial goals is greatly assisted by the powerful military and nuclear arsenals at their disposal, which has successfully persuaded the West against launching direct military action against Moscow.
 
Now, following the recent summit between Putin and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, home to Moscow's space program, in Russia's far east, Xi and Putin are clearly emerging as the ringleaders of a new axis of evil comprising China, Russia, North Korea and Iran.
 
While the main purpose of that visit was an attempt by Putin to secure military support from North Korea, as China's proxy, for Russia's faltering military campaign in Ukraine, the meeting of the two autocrats has raised concerns that the summit will result in deeper military ties between those two countries.
 
With the Russian military having sustained drastic losses during the 18-month conflict -- Western intelligence officials estimate the Russian military has lost around half its war-fighting strength -- Putin is desperate to acquire fresh military supplies.
 
North Korea has enjoyed close military ties with Moscow since the Soviet era, and many of its conventional armaments, such as artillery and rockets, are compatible with Russian systems.
 
China and North Korea have already provided Russia with limited military supplies, and any increase would substantially help Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, which is now under serious pressure as a result of Ukraine's recent gains on the battlefield.
 
There are mounting concerns, however, in Western security circles that in return for providing any uplift in military support for Russia, Kim wants Moscow to provide technical assistance for his missile and satellite programs, which would seriously enhance North Korea's ability to threaten the West with its nuclear arsenal.
 
Earlier this year North Korea twice tried, and failed, to launch a spy satellite, with Pyongyang keen to develop the technology in order to boost its military surveillance.
 
US officials believe North Korea's satellite program is also aimed at boosting its ballistic missile capabilities, as the technology is similar.
 
Speaking after Kim's summit with Putin, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said there was concern that Russian help with satellite technology would actively improve the North Korean missile program.
 
"That is quite troubling and would potentially be in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions" which Russia itself had voted for in the past, he said.
 
Putin's choice of the cosmodrome for his meeting with Kim was certainly appropriate given the close personal interest Kim takes in missiles and satellites. This was the location where Russia's recent lunar probe, which ended up crashing into the moon, was launched in August.
 
The prospect of Russia deepening its military ties with North Korea is troubling for other reasons.
 
North Korea is known to have worked closely with Iran on the development of their respective nuclear and ballistic missiles programs, both of which draw heavily on Russian technology.
 
For example, both North Korea's Nodong and Iran's Shahab medium-range missile systems rely heavily on the technology used in Russia's Soviet era Scud missiles.
 
When Israeli warplanes in 2007 bombed Syria's Al-Kibar nuclear facility, where Iran was financing the construction of a nuclear reactor, a number of North Korean nuclear scientists working on the project were killed.
 
The other concerning aspect of Putin's bid to forge closer military ties with North Korea will be the implications it could have for Moscow's alliance with China.
 
China has historically been regarded as North Korea's closest ally, as well as being its most important trading partner.
 
Any attempt by Russia to help improve North Korea's military strength will also benefit China's Communist rulers: it will provide North Korea with the ability to intensify the threat that all three countries pose to the US and its allies -- and to global security.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an organization of 190 countries that was formed in 1945 at the Bretton Woods Conference. Its purpose is to promote international trade and stabilize world economies. An IMF report dated March 29, 2023, said, “The global central banking community is actively exploring Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), which may have a fundamental impact on both domestic and international economic and financial stability.” This report also said, “Over 40 countries have approached the IMF to request assistance through CBDC capacity development.”
 
A recent CBDC survey of 81 central banks, representing close to 76 percent of the world’s population and 94 percent of global economic output, found that “9 out of 10 central banks are now exploring CBDCs, with half developing or running concrete experiments.”
 
What Does All This Mean?
 
Central banks are increasingly pondering whether to issue digital currencies to the public. Here is the scary part: the IMF announced that they would not allow national currencies for member nations. This means that no government can have its own digital currencies. Instead, the digital currency will be a global currency. Last month at a conference in Morocco, IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva told conference participants that the transnational agency is developing a global platform for central bank-controlled digital currencies. She publicly confirmed, “At the IMF, we are working on the concept of a global CBDC platform.”
 
IMF member countries submit to annual ‘surveillance’ (monitoring) of their policies by the IMF. Each nation’s policies and goals should connect all nations with a global currency, not “fragment” the world by using their own currency. If one works backward from Revelation 13, one can see how the Antichrist system is being developed right before our eyes.
 
Digital Currencies and Digital Identification
 
If (or, when) this system is implemented, these Central Bank Digital Currencies will impact all the residents of each IMF country. Every citizen will be required to possess proper “digital identification,” or they will not be permitted to access the new global digital financial system. When central banks all over the globe roll out their new central bank international digital currencies, to use those currencies, you must “prove that you are who you say you are.” The only way to do that is with the new global system of digital identification, which is currently in the process of being introduced.
 
What About Here in the United States?
 
This past May, a recent survey by the Cato Institute, a think tank in Washington D.C., revealed that only 16% of Americans would support the government issuing a central bank digital currency. Why do 74% of Americans oppose a CBDC? Because they fear the government could control what they buy and sell. If you spend twenty dollars in cash, no one knows who spent it or what was bought with that twenty-dollar bill. However, that all changes with CBDC. Not only would/will central banks have complete control of the rules and regulations, but they would also have the technology to enforce those rules and regulations. CBDCs would also abolish all U.S. cash and directly link citizens to the government’s central bank.
 
Will CBDC technology benefit Americans? That remains an open question. Some tout the potential benefits, while others warn of freedom-crushing financial bondage. In a June 5th article in The Hill, Peter St. Onge pointed out, “Bureaucrats could prevent you from buying the wrong thing, from raw milk to gas stoves to firearms. They could stop you from donating to the wrong person, as we saw with the Canadian truckers. They could even force you to buy whatever a government bureaucrat tells you to.”
 
From monitoring financial activity to freezing or seizing personal assets, CBDC offers a powerful tool for controlling the masses.
 
Financial Trouble Ahead
 
Whether we fully understand global digital currency or not, this is the direction the world is going. Not because governments or banks say so, but because Scripture says there will be a one-world financial system one day. As for the marketplace, the Bible says that during the Tribulation no one will be able to buy or sell unless they have taken the Mark of the Beast (Revelation 13:16-17). In the Antichrist system, privacy and freedom will be abolished
 
Revelation 13:16-17 KJV – “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
 
We are witnessing the technology for the financial system of the Beast develop before our eyes. The pieces really are falling into place. Thankfully, Christians will not be around to participate the culmination of that one-world system, because Jesus has promised to rescue us from the wrath to come. And you can take that to the bank!

NOTE FROM TERRY: The article below was first posted on July 19, 2018. At that time, America was indeed in a state of degeneration. That is, the culture and society were moving away from God’s governance. The drift had become a swift flow in that direction apart from its founding principles.
 
Despite the Trump presidential administration—which I’m convinced was put in place to slow the flow of wickedness perpetrated within the government—the proof could not be missed. The society and culture nonetheless became coarser, more debauched, by the day. This is despite many steps being taken by the government to make things better through positive actions.
 
Five years hence, it has become more than obvious to me that liberty’s light is being quenched by the human and demonic minions of Ephesians 6:12 who are determined to forever darken the nation Ronald Reagan called “the shining city on the hill.”
 
We are perhaps now seeing America’s last gleaming. But while that seems true in every respect, the glorious light from above calls all to repentance. At any moment, you can be made a citizen of that heavenly, shining city, New Jerusalem. Here is how:

God Bless America Again
 
A country song from way back in the1960s and 1970s, during the Vietnam War era, plays through my mind these days. The chorus goes: “God bless America again. You must know the trouble that she’s in. Wash her pretty face, dry her eyes, and then, God bless America again.”
 
The war was raging while Walter Cronkite read the mainstream view of the news to us at dinnertime. Film of bloodied American GIs and corpses of black-pajamaed Vietcong projected from our TV screens while we downed our evening meals.
 
B-52s dropped hundreds of thousands of tons of explosives, carpet-bombing an unseen enemy many thousands of feet below. Rolling Thunder, as it was called, churned up killing fields of earth mixed with flesh and blood night after night, day after day.
 
More than fifty thousand American soldiers and airmen went through the horrific, grinding process of becoming casualties of war their country’s leaders, it turned out, never intended to bring to total victory—giving their last measure of devotion for America the beautiful. At the same time, the ugliness of political warfare was being uncovered and displayed in a news media orgy of, in my view, pro-Communist glee.
 
A US president of the United States was turned out of office in disgrace—and rightfully so. The term “Watergate” became forever ingrained within the American-English lexicon.
 
Would America ever recover? Would the curse that had descended since the time of Korea, with America’s young men and women dying in a “police action” purposely fought to stalemate rather than to complete victory, ever lift from our nation?
 
There have been moments of seemingly possible national egress from the plunge into the abyss of political corrosiveness. It looked like the nation might pull away from the cultural rot that began in earnest during the sexual revolution of the 1960s and the legitimization of murdering babies in their mother’s wombs.
 
The Moral Majority appeared for a brief, shining moment to be making headway in engendering movement toward moral sanity. Somehow, however, a national, cultural darkness began descending following the Reagan years. An almost tangible veil separating America’s formerly flawed but Judeo- Christian-governed morality from a new immoral malignity fell with the Clinton years, the White House intern’s stained blue dress, and all the rest.
 
Jeremiah Wright, Barack Hussein Obama’s black-liberation theology pastor, from his Chicago pulpit, spewed a venomous rant that America’s chickens had come home to roost, and implied that the Lord of Heaven should damn America—using God’s name in vain with the invective. Wright was, I infer, talking about the Islamist attacks on the World Trade Center Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
 
As much as I detested Wright’s hate speech against the United States, I must admit that, indeed, America’s chickens appeared to have come home to roost, suffering on that September 11, 2001, Tuesday at least some degree of God’s judgment. In my view, the eight years of Wright’s best-known parishioner’s time in the Oval Office brought an intensification of that judgment.
 
The year 2016 truly was a pivotal year for this nation and the world. It was proper, I believe, to wonder whether God’s judgment was on track to preclude that of the corrective sort, such as in the past. I’m thinking of times like the Great Depression of the 1930s following the debauched era of the Roaring Twenties.
 
It was within reason to consider that God’s judgment might be entering a destructive phrase rather than another corrective one. Was America entering a time such as when Sodom and Gomorrah came to their end—i.e., was it possible that God would never again bless America?
 
Like that country song tells throughout its lyrics, I, too, love America, and don’t want to ever let it fall because I haven’t done my part in helping keep it upright in every sense.
 
All of this said, spiritually enlightened Bible students know that neither the leaders of this nation nor of any other will rectify the rapidly mounting problems. Only Jesus Christ will solve the otherwise unsolvable, sinister evil at humanity’s core.
 
There are within the community of Bible prophecy observers those who wonder whether America is the most likely candidate for being the Babylon of the eighteenth chapter of Revelation. That’s the country that will be the most materially accomplished of all nations of earth’s history.
 
I’m one of those who pondered this possibility more seriously with each passing news headline involving the Obama administration and State Department dealing with Israel.
 
God, it is abundantly clear, has more than lived up to His promise to bless those who bless the progeny that would come from Abraham through Isaac. America, acting as midwife in the rebirth of the Jewish state in 1948, has been the recipient of bountiful material blessings beyond measure. God has truly blessed America.
 
Conversely, God has promised to curse those who curse His chosen nation, Israel. The cultural war is observably causing the loss of America’s former striving to promote Judeo-Christian values the Founding Fathers infused into the Constitution. Just as troubling was the obvious disdain Obama and those around him had for Israel, even choosing to champion Israel’s enemies at every diplomatic opportunity, it seems.
 
Such continued folly would not perhaps, but certainly, bring national disaster the likes of which our previously blessed nation has never experienced.
 
If indeed forgiveness of our national sins is possible, given the lateness of the prophetic hour, let us who name the matchless name that is above every name implore God to bless America again. This must be done, however, not with vain repetition in the idle words “God bless America” often used by presidents and politicians when ending their meaningless speeches.
 
There is but one heavenly prescription for obtaining an answer to such a prayer:
 
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
 
God does not change. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. That call to repentance is still in effect—and it is for Church Age saints, just as it was for His chosen people of ancient Israel. But, time is swiftly fleeting.
 
“We will make America great again!” [was Trump’s] presidential politics proclamation. No, “we” won’t. We have proven, through our actions and lack thereof, that, as a people, we want to take America in the other direction. “We” didn’t make America great in the first place, and “we” certainly can’t make it great in the future.
 
“God bless America again,” when offered in genuine spiritual, obedient humility—not in politically prideful demand—before the throne of Almighty God is the only petition that has a prayer of a chance to save our nation.

Several polls tracking faith in America show a dramatic decline in religious beliefs across all demographics except Republicans. Gallup Poll reports that “Among party groups, Republicans are the most likely to identify as religious, with 61% doing so, while 28% say they are spiritual. More independents say they are religious (44%) than spiritual (32%), while Democrats are about equally as likely to say they are spiritual (41%) as religious (37%). Twenty-one percent of both Democrats and independents say they are neither religious nor spiritual, compared with 8% of Republicans.” When Gallup first asked this in 1999, 60% of Democrats and 62% of Republicans identified as religious. But it gets worse.
 
While Republicans remained about the same with their religiosity, Democrats’ identification as religious declined by 23 points. Those Democrats identifying as neither spiritual or religious increased from 7% in 1999 to 21% today—a 300% increase. Independents remained steady in their identification as religious with 44% saying so in both 1999 and the present, but their numbers also increase from 13% to 21%, identifying as neither spiritual or religious—a 38% increase. From a political perspective, this demonstrates that those who identify as more liberal on the political spectrum are less likely to be religious. In 2022, another Gallup survey found “Belief in God has fallen the most in recent years among young adults and people on the left of the political spectrum (liberals and Democrats).
 
“These groups show drops of 10 or more percentage points comparing the 2022 figures to an average of the 2013-2017 polls. Most other key subgroups have experienced at least a modest decline, although conservatives and married adults have had essentially no change. The groups with the largest declines are also the groups that are currently least likely to believe in God, including liberals (62%), young adults (68%) and Democrats (72%). Belief in God is highest among political conservatives (94%) and Republicans (92%), reflecting that religiosity is a major determinant of political divisions in the U.S.” In 2019, Gallup reported that some 43% of Americans viewed socialism as a good thing for America. This compared with 25% in 1942.
 
Gallup said “a majority of Democrats have said they view socialism positively in Gallup polling since 2010, including 57% in the most recent measure in 2018.” The Communist Manifesto says, “But communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience.” Socialism and communism depend on replacing God with government. This does not bode well for the national security of the United States. As Isaiah 7:9 says, “If you will not believe, surely you shall not be made secure.” Let us believe. Let us stand. Let us prevail with grace and wisdom. And action.

Everyone has a god. Even atheists have something they believe in. That god may be themselves. It may be a possession. Or, it may be a career. But everyone has something they live for, something that gets them up in the morning, drives them on, and gives their lives a sense of meaning.
 
The question is, who or what do you believe in?
 
The Lord wants to rule and reign in our hearts. And He wants everything else in our lives to be a distant second to Him. He wants our primary passion, excitement, and purpose to be a love for Him.
 
The apostle Paul said, “To me, living means living for Christ” (Philippians 1:21 NLT). That should be the motto of every Christian. It’s something that we all should be able to say.
 
An idol is anything or anyone that takes the place of God in our lives. It’s anything that would begin to crowd our relationship with God and become more important to us than God Himself.
 
Writing to the church in Corinth, Paul referred to a specific instance in the lives of the Israelites when they worshipped the golden calf. He wrote, “These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did, or worship idols as some of them did” (1 Corinthians 10:6–7 NLT).
 
The children of Israel had seen God work in dramatic ways. They saw God deliver them from the land of Egypt with a number of miracles that He performed on their behalf. He turned the Nile River to blood, sent plagues of lice and frogs, and even killed the Egyptians’ firstborn sons.
 
Then, when they began their journey, God opened the Red Sea for them, and they crossed on dry ground. Afterward it closed behind them, drowning the Egyptian army in the process. In addition, the Lord provided a miraculous navigation system: a huge cloud guided them during the day, and a fire in the sky directed them at night.
 
And every morning when they walked outside their tents, a breakfast of manna was waiting for them, supplied by the Creator Himself. But despite all these miracles, the people turned their backs on God and engaged in full-blown idolatry.
 
The problem was their faith was shallow. Thus, they were fickle. And from the moment that Moses left their midst to meet with God on Mount Sinai, it was only a matter of time until they started looking for something to take his place. So the plan for the golden calf was devised, and the Bible tells us about the horrible results.
 
Certainly, miracles and supernatural phenomena do not guarantee a mature faith that will resist the temptations in our paths. Sooner or later, we must take personal responsibility for our actions and our sins and call them what they are.
 
Let’s guard ourselves from the subtle trap of idolatry. Let’s not allow anyone or anything to take precedence over Jesus Christ in our hearts.
