(There is a special message at the end of this article for those who might happen to read this and do not have Jesus in their life and are looking for peace and a way to better understand the present-day insanity and confusion.) Absolutely everywhere you look, there are catastrophic weather and geological anomalies occurring. They roll out without a pause. “Disaster overload” is being subjected to a continuous deluge of distressing news. The numbing effect that continuous “bad news” has on people often results in many putting on mental blinders and waiting for things to get better, but this often unconsciously activated mental response depends on some indication of that possibility existing. It has become obvious. There is not even a hint of normal life resuming. It’s like the elephant in the room, impossible to ignore. It is no longer happening “over there” or “somewhere else”; it is occurring in every country and on every continent on this staggering and reeling globe. Could the increasing frequency and increasing severity of these events in themselves be a message directly from God that He is using to force humans into facing the reality of the consequences of their sin and rebellion? Disasters have always occurred throughout history, but never like this. The below list, not of the individual events but a general overview of the “big picture” alone, is, I believe, a significant testimony to their impact on the entire world’s population and the growing realization that something very ominous is building. It is not necessary for me to provide a list of the specific events. Even if divided into ongoing and recently ended events, the lists would be huge. Again, is that factor alone a message? >The terms “apocalyptic” and “of Biblical “proportions” are commonly used to describe these events even by the secular media today. >The severity of the current disastrous events eclipses what would have been considered “normal” cycles of severe weather even just a year ago. >The simultaneous occurrences are startling in their non-stop frequency. >100-year events floods, 500-year floods, and even 1000-year floods are descriptors commonly appearing in the news now. >Not meant to be unkind, but even those who have been plodding along in total ignorance of world conditions are not just starting to take notice but are “aware” and very uneasy about these “natural” disasters. >The frenetic, “man-caused climate change” clamoring is growing on the part of those who have been swallowed up in its “fear-mongering.” >Major floods and major droughts are occurring in proximity to each other. >It is not necessary to “look up” these kinds of catastrophic events as though it requires diligent effort to find reports of them. Just minutes or even seconds online will provide plentiful reports of both ongoing and recent disastrous events. >Increasing intensities and occurrences of earthquakes worldwide are impossible to ignore. >Many places have received a year or more rain in one day. One even received 7″ of rain in 45 minutes! >In others, severe droughts with a huge loss of crop yield and an inability to feed their livestock are occurring – this will result in severe food shortages. >Horribly destructive wildfires (many being reported as possible intentional arson) are raging out of control all over the globe. >Wars and rumors of wars abound. >Human governments and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) are making absurd pronouncements and creating “laws” and policies that clearly fly in the face of facts that even a seven-year-old can reason through. Jesus warned of conditions that would exist at the end of the age, just prior to His return. “Then He continued by saying to them, ‘Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be great earthquakes, and in various places plagues and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven'” (Luke 21:10-11). Emphasis added by me. “There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Luke 21:25-26). Emphasis added by me. Is God literally moving heaven and earth to wake people from the mindset that they can continue to ignore their sin and continue in rebellion against Him without any consequences? Perhaps the most obvious and discouraging circumstance that relates to the signs given by the Lord in the above passage (Luke 21:25-26) is the vast number of people who are reacting without thinking to the unceasing “we must do this in order to save the planet” programming of their minds. In the book of Isaiah, God has made it clear that people have been gifted with an intellect and that they can reason with it. “‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ Says the LORD” (Isaiah 1:18a). I believe that the massive number and intensity of these events are a clear message from God sent in order to urge them to awake from their lethargy; to turn to Him and be saved. (Please see the Special Message at the end of this article.) God cannot be ignored. He will not be denigrated, and He will not be mocked. This is meant only in kindness and an appeal to reason: For those who believe in the false narrative of “man-caused climate change” and its mantra of impending doom if the world’s population doesn’t surrender their freedoms (and, by association, their lives). I would plead with you to consider an old Latin phrase that is completely appropriate to relate to this false narrative. “Cui Bono,” “Who benefits?” Who benefits from human physical and mental enslavement? Who jets all over the world in privately owned aircraft to deceive millions of people and make millions of dollars in the process? There is also another old Latin phrase that applies to those who have bought into this lie: “Caveat Emptor,” “Let the buyer beware.” The special message I promised you: For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no hope or peace in your life. You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding. It requires that you come before God on His terms. And, what are His terms according to His Word?
God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.
If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will. “Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24). There are no answers and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek. The answers are in the Word of God—The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you. “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). My country is facing the deepest political and judicial crisis since its formation. In the next 3-4 weeks, the very left-leaning Israeli Supreme Court will convene to discuss two issues that are far beyond its mandate. Depending on what they decide, the country could be sent reeling. First, it will discuss canceling the ability for a parliament vote to change a Basic Law. As a country without a constitution, it is the Basic Laws that are the foundation for the way our government conducts business. In the past, these Basic Laws have always been under the purview of the Knesset. The Supreme Court is looking to steal this power for themselves. Second, the court will determine whether to allow a process that will declare Netanyahu as unfit for office, thereby nullifying the recent vote of a majority of the Israelis. For those of you in America, think of when Congress tried to do the same thing to Donald Trump when he was president, and what your court system is trying to do to him now. If Netanyahu is removed from office, the typically quiet conservatives will go ballistic. I don’t know what to expect then. But even amid these crises in our own countries and abroad, the Lord’s church must not give in to the deception, chaos, and lawlessness that we see all around us. To do so often leads to anger, despair, and depression. We must remember that God is in control. We must keep one eye on the world, but the other squarely focused on the Word of God. It is from the latter that we may experience comfort, hope, and peace during society’s insanity. Israeli Secret Service Proves Iran Complicit in Smuggling of Explosives Bound for Israel Shin Bet, Israel’s secret service, announced on Thursday the arrest of four Arab-Israelis for smuggling Iranian-made explosives into central Israel. The deadly devices were smuggled from Iran via Hezbollah and across the border. “This affair once again illustrates the efforts of terrorist elements from Hezbollah and Iran to exploit the Arab citizens of Israel for security activities against the state,” said a Shin Bet senior official in a statement. Terrorist Incidents in Israel A stabbing attack left one man injured and a terrorist dead. The incident took place at a light rail station in Jerusalem last night. The terrorist, who was shot by a Border Police officer, was identified as a 14-year-old boy from a Jerusalem neighborhood. Now the Palestinians are sacificing their children to murder innocent civilians! A few hours later, an explosive device intended for a bus full of Jewish worshippers detonated by an IDF military vehicle outside Joseph’s Tomb in the West Bank city of Nablus. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack which wounded three soldiers. Then, earlier today, Thursday, a Palestinian truck driver purposely rammed four off-duty Israeli soldiers, killing one and injuring the other three. The truck driver was shot dead after a pursuit. Israel to Roll Out Laser Defenses In one year, Israel is expected to become the first country in the world to have partial laser protection against missiles, rockets, and other flying weapons. In two years, the hope is that there will be total protection. Not only will this be highly effective, but it will also operate at a negligible cost compared to the $50,000 per shell Iron Dome. The low-level battle with Iran through Syria and Lebanon continues. On Monday, an Israeli sea strike hit Iranian targets at the Aleppo airport in Syria. That same day, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told the UN Secretary General, “The potential for a violent escalation on Israel’s northern border is growing, as a result of flagrant violations by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah.” Iran is pushing hard for Hezbollah to act against Israel. Meanwhile, Hezbollah pretends to be on the defense. Also on Monday, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said, “For any Israeli assassination against a Lebanese, Palestinian, Iranian person or anyone else, that is carried out on Lebanese territory — there will be a severe reaction and we will not be silent about it.” Maybe if you quietly stayed on your side of the border, you and your crew wouldn’t have to worry about it. Israel’s Soaring GDP According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Israel’s economy just keeps going up. Currently, the country’s GDP per capita is $55,540, well ahead of most of Western Europe, as well as Japan. Two decades ago, it was only $12,000. The Lord has brought His people back into the land and has caused them to flourish! God is good! Libyan Foreign Minister Meets with Israeli Counterpart and Reaps the Whirlwind It’s a tale that only works in the Middle East and with Israel being involved. Last week, Libyan Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush spent time with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen at a meeting hosted by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. What a wonderful occurrence between two countries who are at such odds, right? Not if you are Libyan. Mass protests filled the streets, and Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah quickly suspended al-Mangoush. As the protests grew, the foreign minister hopped a private plane and fled to Turkey. On Monday, the prime minister fired al-Mangoush, but it doesn’t look like she is going quietly. The now former foreign minister claims that, in fact, it was the prime minister who requested she meet with Foreign Minister Cohen, and she says she has proof. This should be fun to watch! Airplane Full of Israelis Allowed to Make Emergency Landing in Saudi Arabia An Air Seychelles flight carrying 128 Israelis was forced to make an emergency landing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday. In days past, this would have led to a very tense situation. Instead, the passengers were welcomed and given rooms at an airport hotel. The next day, a replacement aircraft carried everyone home to Tel Aviv. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recorded a video after the incident in which he said, “I greatly appreciate the good neighborliness.” Just one more reason we in Israel are so thankful for the Abraham Accords of the previous US administration. Saudi Arabia Using China as Pawn in US Nuclear Negotiations How do you get the boy to ask you to the school dance? You start flirting with his biggest enemy. Saudi Arabia has been trying to include US backing of their nuclear development, including the building of a nuclear power station into the negotiations over normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel. But the Washington has been dragging its feet, instead focusing on forcing Palestinian issues. So, on Friday, Riyadh announced that it is considering an offer from China to build the power station, later adding that they are also entertaining bids from Russia and France. In an extremely shrewd move, they are also offering significant financial assistance to the Palestinians. Not only will this potentially lead to the US backing off on some of the measures they are insisting upon, it may also help relations with the Palestinians and the Arab world if Saudi Arabia leaves them out of the three-way negotiations with the US and Israel. Ukraine Breaks Through Russian Line of Defense Chair of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, announced that Ukrainian troops have broken through Russia’s first main line of defense. Said Milley, “It is still too early to judge the success or failure of the attack…. It is clear that so far partial success has been achieved.” Tuesday night saw an extensive Ukrainian drone attack on six areas in Russia. Four IL-76 transport planes were damaged at the airbase in Pskov. On the Russian side, they continued their beatdown of Kiev, launching their largest ever air attack on the city using drones and cruise missiles. Another Coup in Africa Moments after it was announced that Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba, a 14-year incumbent, had been reelected, soldiers appeared on the television screen and announced the cancellation of the elections and the dissolution of the government. Bongo was placed under house arrest, and an interim military junta led by General Brice Oligui Nguema was established in his place. Three countries north of Gabon, the military junta in Niger has ordered the ambassadors of Nigeria, Germany, the US, Côte d’Ivoire, and France to leave the country immediately. The situation is still fluid and very dangerous in that unstable country. In good African news, Sierra Leone announced that it is willing to establish an embassy in Jerusalem. Dozens Arrested for Arson in Greece’s Wildfire Conflagration As deadly wildfires rage across the nation of Greece, Greek authorities have arrested 79 people on arson-related charges. More than 1.3 billion square meters have burned so far, making it the largest ever in an EU country, and the death toll from the flames is nearing two dozen. Prophecy Update Videos Must Watch Videos! During the Trump administration, agreements were forged and finalized, normalizing Israel’s relations with Bahrain, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Sudan. As I discussed earlier this month, Israel is very anxious to expand this list to include Saudi Arabia. At the same time, massive protests erupted in Libya this last week after the country’s foreign minister, Najla al-Mangoush, met with Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen, seemingly to begin talks about brokering peace. This created a massive uproar in Libya. What’s fascinating to me is considering this in light of Ezekiel chapter 38. The passage examines the nations that will attempt a future invasion of Israel, and also mentions several countries that will be on the sidelines that are not going to get involved. This includes the young lions of Tarshish, which I take to be the nations in Europe today, and Sheba and Dedan, these are more moderate Arab states with which Israel is now gaining normalized relations. Libya is being rocked by protests because they don’t want peace with Israel. The reason that is significant is due to the fact that Libya is one of the nations mentioned in Ezekiel chapter 38 as joining the coalition of nations, which includes Russia, Iran, and Turkey, to invade Israel. The passage reads, “And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog…” Gog is the leader of the invasion. The land of Magog is the underbelly of the old Soviet Union, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakstan. It could even include other nations, like Afghanistan, and some believe it could include Ukraine. The chapter continues, “And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia [modern-day Iran], [Kush, which is the modern nation of Sudan—the name was just changed in 1935], and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer [part of modern day Turkey], and all his bands; the house of Togarmah [also in the modern day nation of Turkey] of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.” The BBC reported that “Libya’s [Prime Minister] has suspended his foreign minister after she met with her Israeli counterpart.” “Libya – a strong backer of the Palestinian cause – does not recognise Israel, and the meeting has sparked protests in the majority Arab state,” the article explained. The brief meeting between the Israeli Foreign Minister and the Libyan Foreign Minister happened last week in Italy. “Israeli FM Eli Cohen said the ‘historic’ meeting was ‘the first step’ in establishing relations with Libya,” the article continued. “Israel is working to build closer ties with Arab and Muslim-majority countries which do not officially recognise it. However Libya’s presidential council, which represents its three provinces, said it was illegal to normalise relations with Israel. The Speaker’s Office in parliament accused Najla Mangoush of grand treason…” Due to this accusation, the Libyan Foreign Minister has had to flee the country. Where did she flee to? She fled to Turkey, another of the nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pledged that after his re-election, he would continue to deepen ties with Libya. Libya’s leaders were among the first nations to congratulate Erdoğan upon his re-election. Najla al-Mangoush’s escape to Turkey again shows the close connection between these nations. “In his statement on Sunday, Mr Cohen said he met Ms Mangoush last week on the sidelines of a summit, and that they discussed ‘the great potential for the relations’ between Israel and Libya,” the BBC detailed. “Protests broke out in the capital Tripoli and some other cities following news of the meeting. Roads were blocked, [tires] burnt and demonstrators waved the Palestinian flag…” Libya has been a country in chaos since Muammar Gaddafi’s regime was overthrown 12 years ago, during a period known as the Arab Spring. Since that time, Libya has been a nation in a civil war between two parties; however, they seem to be united in not wanting to normalize relations with Israel. In fact, they said this week that it’s considered a violation of Libyan laws, which criminalize normalization with the Zion entity. While this is taking place, the country has a great deal of Russian mercenaries within its borders. Remember Yevgeny Prigozhin? He was the head of the Wagner group. Several weeks ago, I discussed the Wagner group’s very short-lived coup attempt. Following that event, Prigozhin traveled about for a while, and just this last week, he appears to have been assassinated on an airplane that was sabotaged and bombed. The Russian Wagner group has had troops in Libya since 2019. There are two thousand Mercenaries within the country today. A fascinating article came out a few weeks ago in Foreign Policy magazine that said, “Libya Could Be Putin’s Trump Card.” The Wagner group, which works under the auspices and the authority of the Russians, has overtaken the oil facilities in Libya. Libya has 40% of Africa’s total oil reserves, with 48 billion barrels of reserves—53 trillion cubic feet of gas. The Wagner group can obstruct output to the EU. The EU, of course, is protesting what Russia is doing in Ukraine and is trying to get away from Russian oil. One of their sources of oil is Libya, but now that the Wagner group has taken this over and can cut off the spigot, they’re now in NATO’s backyard. As the winter comes up, concern is mounting in Europe about where they are going to get enough gas. The winter gas supply could end up being a great crisis. The Foreign Policy article says, “Wagner’s dug-in posture in Libya is consistent with Russia’s broader resolve: to pressure European NATO member states into different political outcomes by controlling proximate energy sources…” They are able to impose a lot of pressure on Europe, especially this winter, if they cut off this gas from Libya. We have two things moving in this Gog Magog invasion on parallel tracks. When the Gog Magog Invasion occurs, Israel will be living in security. With the Abraham Accords, Israel has normalization agreements with Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Sudan. Additionally, Israel already has peace with Jordan and Egypt. At the same time, you have the Gog coalition building. The one outlier in all of this is Sudan. Sudan is mentioned in Ezekiel 38 as an ally of Russia, Turkey, Iran, and Libya, but Sudan is one of the nations that’s normalized relations with Israel. Sudan is still very enmeshed with Russia. They want to give Russia a port on the Red Sea. When the dust settles, Sudan will be a part of this coalition as well. The nations are shaking out just as we would expect them to be shaking out. These events in Ezekiel 38 are imminent and will happen soon. We need to keep our eyes on what’s happening. The Latter Day Unveiling by Jesus Christ - by Bill Perkins - https://compass.org/the-latter-day-unveiling-by-jesus-christ/ In a recent Lifeway poll they found only 2% of churches in the USA teach Bible prophecy. This is an amazing latter-days stat for several reasons: 1- Roughly 30% of the Bible is prophetic. They’re ignoring almost 1/3 of the scriptures. 2- 100% accuracy in past prophecies fulfilled literally separates the Bible from every other book on the planet. It not only claims to be written by God, it proves it by predicting the future. 3- The entire Book of Revelation was prophetic when written. Today everything from Revelation 6 forward is still in the future and likely to be fulfilled within the next 7-14 years. 4- The Book of Revelation is the only book that promises Believers a special blessing for even trying to read and understand it. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; Rev. 1:3a I once read comments on Rev. 13:16-17 (Mark of the Beast) in a turn-of-the-19th-century commentary. The writer explained that each bank could have a person standing inside with a list of those forbidden to bank, and unless you got the OK-nod from him, they wouldn’t let you transact business. That is silly and naive to us, but it just goes to show you that people over a hundred years ago were studying the Book of Revelation, as best they could, and receiving God’s blessings for the effort. The Book of Revelation is a critical source to understand prophecy today. It’s sort of an organized outline of most of the major Old Testament prophecies of the latter days. Plus it adds critical info that helps make more sense of the 2600-year-old prophecies. The word “Revelation” in the Greek is “Apocalupsis.” This is why it is often referred to as “The Apocalypse,” which is from the verb “Apocalupto” which means “to unveil” and the word “Kalumma,” which is “a veil.” Therefore Apocalupsis means “the taking away of a veil.” And because the book is primarily dealing with the seven years of Tribulation, it’s most important to those of us living just before the Rapture. Jesus is pulling back the veil so we can see how it all fits together. The Book of Revelation is largely Jewish. This is seen in its “signs” and “symbols” like the Tabernacle, the Ark, the Altar, the trumpets and plagues, and of course the sealing of the 144,000 JEWISH evangelists preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. But the Church is in chapters 2 and 3, Israel in chapters 6-19 and the nations of the world in chapters 20-22. It reveals God’s ultimate plan, a new heaven and earth without democrats. Sorry, I meant sinners (Childers strikes again!). Just before Jesus’ crucifixion, His disciples asked Him when would the end of the age (not the end of time) come about? Jesus said no one knew the day nor the hour, not even Him, only the Father. “But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.” Mark 13:32 That was obviously true when He told His disciples. But it’s not true today because in Revelation 6 we see Jesus having qualified to receive all knowledge through His sinless life and atoning death on the cross. Today, He can’t make that same statement because He DOES know. In the Book of Daniel, it says to “seal up” the words until the end of the Times of the Gentiles. In the Book of Revelation, which dovetails with Daniel, John is told to “seal NOT the words for the time is at hand”… meaning the Church Age. “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.” Deut. 29:29 This explains that the Book of Revelation is Jesus revealing His wrath and purpose while shedding light on the time at hand. This is why the Book of Revelation means so much for Believers today. Jesus gave this book to all Believers, but the most important group to study would be those alive at the very end of the Church Age with spiritual discernment. And God promises through Amos that He WOULD reveal to us what is going on. Surely the Lord GOD does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets. Jer. 30:24 Yet only 2% of churches even attempt to try to understand the thrust of the Bible’s teaching in hundreds of Bible prophecy verses. I know one thing, Satan sure doesn’t want Believers to study prophecy because it gives people hope. Through prophecy we find out we can live boldly in the face of the approaching storm because we know we’ll be rescued before the Wrath of God is unleashed on the earth. Avoiding teaching Bible prophecy is probably why so many churches today are dead as a doornail and/or woke. Good grief, we’re privileged to be living at the time of a huge dispensational change—the end of the Church Age and the beginning of the Tribulation. And most Christians have no clue. But you and I do have a clue. We are part of a Berean group who makes sure anything we’re taught is actually coming from scripture—steel on steel. So as we see things getting a little dicey before the Rapture, regardless of what year, stand tall on scripture. Be a witness by allowing people to see you trust Jesus and the Bible above all else. Be a compass and point to Christ. And always keep in mind God is in control. We don’t know what He will allow in the future to be exposed to change the current direction. Remember Trump in 2016! There is an extra place setting at the Sunday morning breakfast table—we always break bread together before our worship. His ornery smile and wit were like a breath of fresh air after a difficult week out in the world. I would often give Chuck a certain look for cross-talking, knowing well that Tony instigated it. At 84, his body was giving out, but his mind was sharp as any 30-year-old and he was quick to deliver a zinger here and there for good measure. Ever know anybody like that? We have been missing Tony. So Kim brought it up that we should go have a picnic lunch at a winery after church as a tribute to Tony. Everybody was all for it, especially since we had traveled back from the NFL Hall of Fame week in our new, more spacious RV van. They all wanted to try it out. Yes, we sold the Airstream travel van and bought an Entegra RV—same length, same chassis, just a wider space to allow me to work more efficiently while on the road—you know, keep telling the story of the good side of America for these American Chronicles. But back to the topic. The day had come and everybody was excited. You see, we are all older folk and the opportunity to “get out” brings with it a certain enthusiasm and anticipation. At least, I think it is that opportunity, otherwise we are just acting like a bunch of giddy kids. Once again, it’s time to line up for the group picture. I had told everyone after our closing prayer that we needed to get a picture. One by one they trickled out. They all wanted to see the inside of the camper, so some were moving in and out while others were lining up for the photo. Actually only Cindy lined up for the photo. Bev and Kim, already had found their seat in the van and were ready to go when I reminded them that they needed to come back out for the picture. Then somebody had to go to the bathroom before we left. We were ready to take the photo when Chris remembered something she needed and dashed into the house, leaving us all standing there in the hot sun. Finally, we’re ready, but Chuck is hiding behind the mirror, thinking I wouldn’t notice. It’s like herding cats—no cats are fast—more like turtles. Some things never change. Chuck was pointing out things he hadn’t seen before in a tone that made me think I was going to wreck the van. The ladies were talking away. And when we arrived, it was most certainly a process getting everybody unloaded with all the food we had packed. I parked the van and when I found the group, folks were passing food around. We took a moment to get settled and then raised a toast to Tony, who loved these kinds of outings and always wanted to do more of them. Service Dog Charlie settled in under the table hoping for crumbs to drop. We talked and cross-talked over each other because half of us can’t hear, especially when music is playing. Proverbs 19:6 says “every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.” To us, the gift of friendship is most priceless and each gives it in their own precious way. What I can do, I ought to do. And what I ought to do, by the grace of God, I will do.” What can one person do? A lot. The Bible tells the story of one woman who saved a nation. Esther may not have been the first woman people would have imagined for this assignment. After she won a beauty contest, she became queen in the Medo-Persian Empire. And in that position of influence, Esther, who was Jewish, discovered that her people faced a serious threat. A wicked man named Haman had devised a plot to exterminate every Jewish person in the empire. Esther considered appealing to King Xerxes on behalf of her people. But by doing so, she would be risking her own life. The king could have her executed for approaching him without his invitation. But her cousin Mordecai sent her a message, which said, “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews are killed. If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” (Esther 4:13–14 NLT). In other words, “Esther, God doesn’t depend solely on you. But He can use you in a powerful way. Will you step up?” Esther did, and as a result, the Jewish people survived. One person made a difference. You, too, can make a difference. So make the decision to be the godly representative that Jesus called you to be. He said, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14 NLT). We live in a dark world where people are comfortable in darkness. They have become accustomed to the dark. But a little light can go a long way. After the capture of the Bastille in 1789, a story emerged about a prisoner who had been confined to a dark, dingy dungeon for years. When he was released and led outside into the Paris sunlight, he begged to return to the prison. His eyes could not endure the sun’s brightness. His only desire was to die in the very darkness where he had been a captive. That is how a lot of people are today. They live in darkness, and they are comfortable there. But the Bible says that when we come to Christ, we “turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God” (Acts 26:18 NLT). We need to shine the light of Jesus Christ into our dark world. We must take it seriously and seek to make a difference in our culture wherever we go, whenever we can. You make a difference. You have a strategic and important part to play.
