Daniel on the Timely Understanding of Prophecy - Dr. Nathan E. Jones - https://christinprophecyblog.org/2024/03/daniel-on-the-timely-understanding-of-prophecy/ “But as for me, I heard but could not understand; so I said, ‘My lord, what will be the outcome of these events?'” (Daniel 12:8). The prophet Daniel had been listening intently to the angel Gabriel pronouncing a series of mind-blowing messages. God was revealing the rise and fall of great empires, leading eventually to a global empire led by a despot whom the Apostle John would later call the Antichrist, with its inevitable demise at the divine hand of God. Of course, all these great empires were still so far off in the future, from Daniel’s perspective, that he was obviously quite perplexed by what he was hearing. Rubbing his wrinkled forehead in confusion, Daniel requested God’s mighty messenger to provide some elaboration. To his dismay, the angel replied with a firm, “No way!” He explained that Daniel could never truly understand these prophecies because too many events needed to happen first before they could be fulfilled and, therefore, properly understood. Fortunately, Gabriel added there would be three major signs that would mark the “time of the end” in which the finale in this series of events would culminate. We find the source text for these signs in Daniel 12:4. “But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the time of the end; many will go to and fro, and knowledge will increase.” He added that only those living in the end times and who were “wise” (meaning spiritually discerning) would at last understand these prophecies. They would recognize that the exponential increase in knowledge, travel, and prophetic understanding would herald the end of these human-controlled kingdoms with the second advent of the Messiah establishing His earthly millennial reign (Daniel 12:3-10). 1) Increase in Knowledge Let’s explore the first sign—a great increase in knowledge. Unless you’re a toddler playing with your mother’s Android, you have lived long enough to realize that the way we obtain information has changed a lot—a whole lot—over the last few decades. Let’s not even talk decades but in years. The child attaining adulthood today can, with a shudder, look back to the early 2000s when there was no Wikipedia, no Gmail, no social media like Facebook and Twitter (now called X), no cloud computing, no tablets, no smartphones, and certainly no high-speed Internet connectivity. Remember the sound a modem made when connecting a surfer to the World Wide Web? Ask a ten-year-old that question today and they couldn’t even tell you. Even Bob Dylan couldn’t have imagined how much things would be changing when way back in the stone ages of 1963 he sang, “The Times They Are A-changin'”. Times a-changin’ wasn’t always the way things were, though. For thousands of years of human history, life remained pretty much the same. Sure, every 300 years or so the world eked out an innovation that revolutionized the world, moving humanity from say the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. But, for the most part, limitations in travel left most inventions cordoned off to a tiny corner of the world. But then, AD 1454 finally arrived, and the German goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg released the very first mobile, reusable type press (like an antique photocopier). At last, words of knowledge could be mass-copied onto paper and distributed far and wide. The age of the printed book revolutionized the world, and Gutenberg started with the fount of all knowledge—the Bible. Were you surprised to learn from your history classes that the most world-changing advances were made just in the last 150 years or so? And, as we got closer to our day and age, how each discovery came about faster and faster, as one breakthrough was achieved on top of another? This increasingly rapid acceleration in learning is called the Exponential Curve. Our knowledge has been experiencing exponential growth as one breakthrough builds upon another at an increasingly faster and faster pace. What would you say was the most important discovery that has helped us facilitate the advent of this massive explosion in the growth of knowledge? If you answered “the computer,” then you’d be correct. When it comes to the exponential curve for computers, the old joke is, “How do you know when your computer is obsolete?” The answer is, “When you take it out of the box.” That’s not too far from the truth, though, for computer companies double computer processing speeds about every 18 months. Known as Moore’s Law (after Intel co-founder Gordon Moore), this is just one manifestation of the greater trend in how all change happens to be occurring at an exponential rate. In 2023, quantum computers began processing at speeds equivalent to the human brain. By 2045, in a mere quarter of a century, Moore’s Law predicts we will possess computers with the computational ability equivalent to the entire human race! Not only has the exponential curve in all areas of computer technology increased our knowledge to stupendous levels, but computers have aided in all the major scientific discoveries of our day. We don’t need to cram so many facts into our brains anymore either, for the ability to easily store and access data means we can continue to learn like we’ve never learned before in human history. The exponential curve is not just limited to computers. Other advances in biomedicine, space science, chemical engineering, human engineering, and all the other sciences have been climbing faster and steeper up their exponential curves with every passing day. It’s expected that in the next five years, the world’s technology will be 32 times more advanced than it is today. It’s also been estimated that 65% of today’s kindergarteners, once they finally graduate from college, will ultimately end up working in completely new jobs that, at this time, don’t yet even exist. Consider that just a hundred years ago the information most people learned throughout their entire lifetime equated to the content of one Sunday edition of The New York Times. Our ability today to practically consume that same amount of information daily shows just how far mankind’s knowledge has increased in a very short amount of time. Today’s exponential increase in knowledge points to the fact that we are living in the prophesied end times and that Jesus Christ is coming soon. 2) Increase in Transportation Notice in that same prophecy the angel told Daniel that, besides a great increase in knowledge, “many will go to and fro” (Daniel 12:4). This tremendous increase in travel would also occur in the same context, that being the end times. God was revealing that once people began to go to and fro, both farther and faster, those final years before Christ returned to set up His Millennial Kingdom were finally upon us. Stop and think how people traveled just a single century ago. Most roads weren’t even paved yet and were traveled along by horse-drawn wagons. Watch on YouTube the video of San Francisco recorded back in 1906 and you will see far more horses than horseless carriages. People rarely, if ever, left their hometowns. Animal domestication and the early beginnings of decent roads, then bicycles, balloons, boats, and simple automobiles were developing, but not widely received. Since the early part of the twentieth century, mankind went on to invent airplanes and jets, and we’ve even left Earth’s atmosphere in rockets and space shuttles. It used to take months for people to travel overseas by boat, but now we travel that same distance abroad in mere hours. In today’s world, people are always on the move, just as the angel prophesied to Daniel. Today’s exponential increase in travel points to the fact that Jesus Christ is returning soon. 3) Increase in Understanding Prophecy Did you know that Bible prophecy constitutes a whopping 31% of the Bible? God’s overall plan for the ages appears to be rather like a 100-piece puzzle, and so far, He has only provided 75 pieces. One can make out the outline of a picture, but until certain events unfold, which then add another new piece to the puzzle, the picture remains incomplete. Still, the 75 pieces we have now are far more numerous than what Daniel ever had. As Jesus explained to His disciples, “For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it” (Matthew 13:17). Even then, the Apostles didn’t understand many of Christ’s teachings until after His resurrection when He openly explained them and then later sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost to provide further illumination. Even then, the Apostles were expecting the imminent return of Christ and not a 2,000-year long wait. Today, the various end times signs related to nature, society, world politics, technology, Israel, and the spiritual signs are coming at us at such a fantastic rate that Bible prophecy teachers such as Dr. Ron Rhodes have begun to call the phenomenon “The Convergence”. So many end times signs converging all at once has greatly enhanced our understanding of end times Bible prophecy, just as Gabriel foretold. Today’s exponential increase in the understanding of God’s prophetic Word points to the fact that Jesus Christ is returning soon. Recognize the Times These three major signs, along with the hundreds more provided in the Bible, being fulfilled in our day, reveal the fact that the Lord could indeed return at any moment. By looking through the filter of the Bible at all the wondrous yet fearful events playing out before us, we should clearly understand the times in which we are living. As a result, we are comforted knowing that God’s got it all under control, that He has a great big plan in place, and that His children play a vital role in that plan. Christians are called to serve God in these dark times with all our unique giftedness, resources, and experience. For those of you who haven’t yet accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, but now recognize that we are living in the end times, the realization should act like an alarm clock buzzing you awake to the fact that the world doesn’t have much time left to it. We are all living on borrowed time. Therefore, embrace the fact that God loves the world so much that He gave His one and only Son and that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). Russian Forces Move Closer To The Mountains Of Israel – By Erick Stakelbeck - https://harbingersdaily.com/russian-forces-move-closer-to-the-mountains-of-israel/ It is a very busy news week in the world’s most chaotic and volatile region—the Middle East. First and foremost, various media outlets in the region, in particular, Syrian State media run by Bashar al-Assad and also Israel’s Channel 11 broadcaster, report that Russian forces are moving closer to the Israel-Syria border. Now, a quick reminder: Russian forces have been in Syria since September 2015. They entered the Syrian Civil War basically to save Bashar al-Assad’s hide. Assad eventually prevailed in that Civil War and the Russian incursion into Syria was the game changer. Well, guess what? Surprise, surprise, Russian forces have not left nearly nine years later. They are still in Syria and are the most powerful force in that country where a number of regional actors have a footprint—the Iranian regime and Hezbollah foremost among them. Turkey is in Syria as well, and in the past, ISIS and Al-Qaeda were also in the region. Syria has been, as one friend of mine in Israel called it, a Potpourri of rogue regimes and terror groups all stationed in one place—at Israel’s doorstep. Now, reports that Russia is stationing forces closer along Israel’s border are a cause for great concern. There are geopolitical ramifications and prophetic ramifications as well. Why would they do that? I think a few things are going on here, folks. Number one, since October 7th, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in particular, and the Israeli Air Force (IAF) have intensified their strikes in Syria against the Iranian regime and Hezbollah assets. The IDF and Israeli intelligence Services have great intel in Lebanon and Syria. There have been a lot of high-value targets linked to the Iranian regime that have been eliminated in the past few months. Israel is operating more frequently and more powerfully. Many on the ground in Syria who are linked to the Iranian regime have talked about this. Middle East media outlets have taken notice of the intensifying attacks by Israelis—and these are deadly attacks. Could it be that the Iranian and Assad regimes are essentially calling in backup? I’m not saying Russia is going to militarily get engaged against Israel in this particular situation. However, are Russian Forces trying to send a message to Israel and act as a deterrent? If Russian forces are in the line of fire when Israel strikes Iran or Hezbollah assets in Syria, things can spiral out of control. It is a tinderbox there right now. Interestingly, some Israeli analysts I talked to in 2018 and 2019 insisted that Russia could be a positive force in Syria and they could reign in their Iranian allies. Well… so much for that. It’s going entirely in the opposite direction as Russia and Iran cleave closer. There is a full-blown military alliance now between the Iranian regime and Vladimir Putin’s regime. The Iran-Russia relationship is certainly a quid pro quo alliance on the part of the Iranians. Iran is supplying Russia with hundreds, if not thousands, of drones for use in the war in Ukraine, to the point that Iran and Russia are now building a drone factory together east of Moscow. Persistent reports also show that Iran is supplying Russia with ballistic missiles now—which would be another level. Of course, Iran denies everything. If you’re Israel, you need to be very concerned. Before the Ukraine war, Israel did enjoy decent relations with Russia. Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Moscow many times and met with Vladimir Putin face to face—that’s now out the window. Vladimir Putin’s regime is aligning itself with Israel’s greatest enemies, the Assad regime, Hezbollah, and Iran. They also hosted Hamas delegations in Moscow in the wake of October 7th. Let’s look at the big picture. What does this mean prophetically? I believe a day is coming when Russia, as well as Iran, will lead what the prophet Ezekiel calls a latter-day confederation against Israel. It’s called The War of Gog and Magog in the Book of Ezekiel 38 and 39. The prophetic chess pieces are moving. One of those chess pieces involves the Russian forces moving closer to the mountains of Israel, where the Gog Magog Invasion will take place. If the Chinese decide to pull the trigger on an invasion of Taiwan, it will instantly become the biggest news story in the entire world. Because the moment that an invasion of Taiwan begins, the United States and China will be at war, and nothing will ever be the same again. (Rapture Ready News, September 15, 2023) The Russian invasion into Ukraine and the bellicose rants of some of Vladimir Putin’s military and diplomatic leaders make it clear the former Soviet Empire is again about to raise its ugly head. They threaten nuclear war at almost every opportunity. We can see that things are ramping up for the coming war against Israel, according to Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39. Many pundits—even from the Bible-prophecy perspective—are warning that America might at any moment be invaded from the northern and southern borders by the Chinese and Russian militaries. This is despite the fact that: 1) there is not sufficient evidence to support the supposed threats, and 2) such hyperbole goes against what God’s Word indicates for both the “King of the kings of the east” (Revelation chapters 9 and 16) and Rosh (Russia), as indicated in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39. Both of these bad actors on the war-making stage are destined to do their dastardly worst in other places of the world. Both China and Russia will be dealt with in the proper places and times by the Lord Himself, we are assured. If these diabolists attacked the United States, our military would react, regardless of the feared impotence of the presidential administration and top military of the Joint Chiefs of Staff sort. There are automatic reaction forces in place to, through nuclear submarine retaliation alone, make such attacks by America’s chief enemies a suicide mission for the entire world. This realized and stated, such potential for making a totally destructive war that threatens to end life on Earth has its place in Bible prophecy. This truth is wrapped up in the one who will become the world’s last and most powerful evil dictator. Actually, it will be the threat of war that will cause the world to hand this wicked man his dictatorial crown. We are told this by Daniel the prophet: “And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries. And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant” (Daniel 11:21-22). Daniel went on to say: “And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all” (Daniel 11:36-37). This is in reference, of course, to the “prince that shall come” of Daniel chapter 9. This evil prince—the son of perdition, the man of sin, the Antichrist—will come in by offering peace. He won’t have to win victories to achieve the control he desires. People will willingly give it to him. This, of course, I believe, is verified in the prophecy of the first rider on the white horse of Revelation 6. Antichrist has no arrows, but a bow and crown, which are “given” to him. “And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer” (Revelation 6:1-2). So this most powerful, evilest despot of all of human history will be, at first, unlike the previous vile dictators on Earth. Each of them—like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and all of the ruthless leaders like the Khans of the ancient past—arose to power by murderous, raw aggression. This final one will come with guile and demonically deceptive powers that will make people beg for him to take the crown of dominion they will gladly offer. The question is valid: Why will such a man be not only accepted but hailed and given complete adulation by most of the earth’s population? The answer, of course, is that he will offer peace. This man, through demonic deceptiveness, will offer to take fear of world-rending nuclear war from the fear-filled thoughts of humankind. We see that fear building even now in preparation for the time when people will have lost reasoning guided by the Holy Spirit’s influence. The “restrainer” of 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 will no longer hold back both the madness of humanity and human emotions. The fear will cause hearts to fail, the Word tells us. This most charismatic geopolitical leader in history will promise peace and prosperity. But it will be “peace, prosperity, and the coming holocaust,” as the title of my friend Dave Hunt’s book so marvelously described. Here is a further description by God Himself—through Daniel’s vision—of the coming world leader that might even now be itching to take the reins of global government: “And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand” (Daniel 8:23-25). The fear of all-out nuclear war will clutch the reprobate mindset of most of humanity and will cause them to give Antichrist his crown. He won’t have to fire a shot—at least, not at first. His military firepower and much worse will be used later in his satanically driven holocaust we call the Tribulation. Antichrist’s great power and authority will come through the false peace he will promise. That delusion that mesmerizes the masses will bring on the worst time of all human history, according to Jesus (Matthew 24:21). Paul, the great apostle, said the following: “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape” (1 Thessalonians 5:3). You want to escape that time of horror that humanity faces—perhaps in the very near future. Here’s how to go to Christ when He calls God’s family to Himself to escape Antichrist’s dictatorship: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10). What Does This Mean? The decisions that these two men make during the months ahead will literally be felt all over the globe. It is being claimed that both of these men were born during eclipses. If this is true, that would be an extraordinary “coincidence”, and so I decided to investigate this for myself. According to Wikipedia, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was born on April 19th, 1939… Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei[5] (Persian: سید علی حسینی خامنهای, romanized: Ali Hoseyni Xāmene’i, pronounced [ʔæˈliː hosejˈniː xɒːmeneˈʔiː] ⓘ; born 19 April 1939)[14][15] is an Iranian Twelver Shia marja’ and politician who has been the second supreme leader of Iran since 1989.[16][17] He previously served as third president of Iran from 1981 to 1989. Khamenei is the longest-serving head of state in the Middle East, as well as the second-longest-serving Iranian leader of the last century, after Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.[18] I went to timeanddate.com, and I was able to confirm that there was an annular solar eclipse on April 19th, 1939. So the claim that Khamenei was born during an eclipse checks out. But what about Netanyahu? According to Wikipedia, Benjamin Netanyahu was born on October 21st, 1949… Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu (/ˌnɛtənˈjɑːhuː/ NET-ən-YAH-hoo;[3] Hebrew: בִּנְיָמִין נְתַנְיָהוּ, romanized: Binyāmīn Nētanyāhū, pronounced [binjaˈmin netanˈjahu] ⓘ; born 21 October 1949) is an Israeli politician who has been serving as the prime minister of Israel since 2022, having previously held the office from 1996 to 1999 and again from 2009 to 2021.[4] He is the chairman of the Likud party. Netanyahu is the longest-serving prime minister in the country’s history, having served for a total of over 16 years. He is also the first prime minister to have been born in Israel after its establishment.[5][6] I went to timeanddate.com, and I was able to confirm that there was a partial solar eclipse on October 21st, 1949. So the claim about Netanyahu checks out too. In fact, as the Supernatural By Design YouTube channel has pointed out, the partial solar eclipse that Netanyahu was born on actually fell in the middle of a blood moon tetrad… Wow. So what could all of this mean? Could it be possible that both of these men were born during eclipses because God knew that they would be leading their nations during the Great Middle East War? Last week, the simmering conflict along Israel’s northern border escalated quite dramatically… This week Israel carried out more air strikes on the Bekaa valley, deep into Lebanon, taking the death toll in Lebanon since the start of the conflict to more than 240. In retaliation, Hezbollah fired a barrage of 100 Katyusha rockets on northern Israel, its heaviest attack since the war began, with targets including Israeli army bases in the Golan Heights. At least 17 Israelis have been killed in attacks from Lebanon and Syria since October. The rockets this week prompted an angry post by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, addressed to the Defence Minister Yoav Gallant: “The military is your responsibility. What are you waiting for? We have to start responding, attacking – war, now!” The good news is that an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah has not erupted yet. But is that coming? Hezbollah has warned that Israel will be crossing a red line if it conducts a military operation in Rafah. The Biden administration and the EU are also both adamantly against such an operation. But none of this opposition is shaking Netanyahu. He says that the IDF will go into Rafah because Hamas must be eliminated… Netanyahu stated unequivocally: “No international pressure will stop us from realizing all of the goals of the war: Eliminating Hamas, freeing all of our hostages and ensuring that Gaza never again constitutes a threat to Israel,” he said. To achieve “total victory” in the war, Netanyahu stated, “We will operate in Rafah,” because it is the only way to eliminate the Hamas threat and “to free all of our hostages.” The prime minister affirmed that the operational plans for the Rafah incursion have been approved, including “steps to evacuate the civilian population from the combat zones,” which he called “an essential stage ahead of the military action.” When the Israelis move into Rafah, things will start getting really crazy. Meanwhile, we should all keep a very close eye on what is happening in Ukraine. The Russians clearly have the upper hand now, and French President Emmanuel Macron has once again warned that western troops may eventually be deployed there… Even after his first round of comments resulted in significant pushback from among European allies, French President Emmanuel Macron has once again declared that NATO should not rule out sending troops to Ukraine, which would set the West on a path of direct nuclear-armed confrontation with Russia. He said in a Thursday interview on French national television that while the “situation” is perhaps not ripe at the moment to deploy troops there, it remains that “all these options are possible.” But perhaps more importantly, Macron framed Russia’s war in Ukraine as an “existential” threat for Europe and said that “if the situation should deteriorate, we would be ready to make sure that Russia never wins that war.” When Vladimir Putin was asked about this, he admitted that this would put us “one step away from a full-scale World War Three”… “It is clear to everyone, that this will be one step away from a full-scale World War Three. I think hardly anyone is interested in this,” Putin told reporters after winning the biggest-ever landslide in post-Soviet Russian history. Putin added, though, that NATO military personnel were present already in Ukraine, saying that Russia had picked up both English and French being spoken on the battlefield. “There is nothing good in this, first of all for them, because they are dying there and in large numbers,” he said. Since the speech, however, his cabinet members have been selling increased government spending and redistribution of wealth—total socialism. This is a shell game being well-played by Biden and his gang. Tell Americans there will be only tax increases on corporations and the wealthy. Biden said in his speech,” I signed a bipartisan deal to cut another trillion dollars in the next decade. On March 8’s Bloomberg “Balance of Power,” Boushey said, “We need to make sure that the federal government has the resources that it needs to be able to do the things that it needs to do. And one of the priorities that the President is focused on is making sure that the Internal Revenue Service has the resources they need to literally enforce the laws on the books, let alone the new ideas that the President is bringing to the table…businesses have a lot of resources, we’ve also given them a lot of subsidies and supports to go out there and invest. So, we’re seeing this investment boom at the same time that we’ve been focusing on making sure that we’re enforcing the laws and raising taxes on, as the President likes to say, wealth and not work.” She concluded: “So, I remain convinced that, if government has the resources that they need to do their job and businesses focus on investing in those industries that are so important to American competitiveness and American jobs and workers, we will continue to see that kind of economic growth.” This is nothing short of a form of communism. Raise taxes. Increase government spending. Call it “investment.” Redistribute wealth. You want a job, you will bow to the gods of government, which take all and give little. It is alarming to see how fast freedom is handed over to tyranny, and how little resistance there is to putting shackles on America. His ministry was almost over. Time was short. He had healed their sick and raised their dead. He had fed their hungry and forgiven their sins. Yet, by and large, He remained mostly alone and rejected. Jesus knew that in a short time, one of His own handpicked disciples would betray Him for thirty pieces of silver. And He knew that Caiaphas, Pilate, and Herod would conspire against Him to bring about His death. But not only that, Jesus knew that the same fickle crowds that were shouting His praises on that day soon would be shouting, “Crucify him!” (Matthew 27:22–23 NLT). He knew those crowds would reap the full impact of their sin because they missed the day of their visitation. This is the second time that we read of Jesus weeping openly. He also wept at the tomb of Lazarus (see John 11:35). And even though He knew He would raise Lazarus from the dead, He still wept over the pain and anguish that death brings. Jesus, being God, was omniscient. He knew the future. He saw the destruction that would come upon Jerusalem in just forty years. Four decades later, in AD 70, the Romans laid siege to Jerusalem. And after 143 days, they had killed 600,000 Jewish people and took thousands of others captive. The Jewish historian Josephus tells us that during this siege, rivers of blood flowed through the gates of the city, and the beloved temple burned to the ground, fulfilling Jesus’ prophecy. He had said of the temple, “Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!” (Matthew 24:2 NLT). This broke Jesus’ heart because unbelief and rejection break God’s heart. He knows the consequences. God created the world. He placed the planets in orbit. He made the light to shine out of darkness. But when someone closes their heart to Him, He won’t forcibly enter. He will knock, but He will not make people believe. Of course, when people believe, God is happy. And when they reject Him, He is sad because He knows they will reap the repercussions—not only of future judgment but also the repercussions in their lifetime. Sometimes, people come to me and say they’re doing thus and so. I tell them they really shouldn’t be doing that, and I explain what the Bible says about it. Usually, they say something along the lines of “Hey, don’t judge me!” And then a few years later, they’ve made a wreck of their lives or the lives of their family members because of the decisions they made. That is what sin does to people. And it makes me sad to see the devastation, ruin, and misery that it brings into a life. As Jesus rode into Jerusalem on what we now celebrate as Palm Sunday, He demonstrated sadness when He saw what was about to happen to those people. And He wept.
