Iran’s Attack on Israel Was Certainly Unprecedented, But Was It Biblically Prophetic? – By Greg Laurie - https://harbingersdaily.com/irans-attack-on-israel-was-certainly-unprecedented-but-was-it-biblically-prophetic/ The attack of Iran on Israel on April 13, 2024, was unprecedented. We know that Iran has sponsored terrorism for a long time, working with proxy groups like the Houthis, Hezbollah, and, of course, Hamas on that horrific attack on the Jewish homeland on October 7th—where 1,200 people were butchered and murdered. It is unbelievable. And there are still so many being held as hostages. But when Iran directly attacked Israel, that is literally without precedent, and it has Bible prophecy significance. Now, we had this solar eclipse recently and some people thought that that was a sign of the times, even a warning of an impending judgment on America. And as you recall, I said I did not agree with that position. It is true the Bible says that in the last days the sun will not give its light and the power of the heavens will be shaken, but that is speaking specifically of the tribulation period. End Times Events Let me give you just a quick flyover of end times events chronologically. Number one, I think the next event on the prophetic calendar is the Rapture of the Church. Then, the Antichrist emerges on the scene and the tribulation period begins. The tribulation ends with the Second Coming of Christ, and then the Lord establishes the Millennium (the 1,000-year reign of Christ). In the tribulation period, that is when the sun will not give its light and the moon will be darkened, as the Bible predicts. That has not yet happened. So, the eclipse was not a sign of the end times. It was just an amazing eclipse. Was the Attack of Iran on Israel Bible Prophecy? Setting that aside, I do believe the attack of Iran on Israel was a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. A sign of the end times, according to Scripture, is the Jewish people will be regathered together in their homeland. That has happened. On May 14, 1948, Israel officially became a nation. And you might say the prophetic time clock began to tick. That was not just a sign, that was a super sign. But the Bible had more to say. Not only will the Jews be regathered together in their homeland, but they will be increasingly isolated. That’s happening. The Bible also predicted the rise of antisemitism in the end times. That is happening. The Bible also predicts a large nation to the north of Israel, identified in Ezekiel as Magog, will attack her. That has not yet happened. Many scholars believe that Magog is a reference to modern-day Russia. I concur with that view, but no one can say with absolute certainty. But this we can say with certainty: One of the allies of Russia will be Persia. Persia was the name of Iran. They changed their name in 1935. Therefore, Persia, or Iran, attacking Israel is predicted in the Bible. And guess what? That just happened. Will This Lead to Ezekiel 38? Now, am I suggesting that what just took place is going to lead to the scenario of Ezekiel 38? I don’t think that’s necessarily the case, but it certainly is a cause for us to sit up and pay attention. Jesus said, “So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near” (Luke 21:28). I’m so thankful to say that, though 300 Iranian drones, missiles, and rockets were sent toward Israel, 99% of them were taken down by the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and other technology that America has provided for the nation Israel. It is in the best interest of the United States of America to stand with our loyal ally, the nation Israel. God made a promise to Abraham years ago; He said, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you” (Genesis 12:3). One of the reasons God has blessed the United States is because we have stood by our friend Israel. And I hope we continue to do so. What Happens Next? I don’t know what will happen next. . . Will Israel retaliate? Again, I don’t know. But Jesus said, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:28). He did not say, “When you see these things begin to happen, freak out because we’re all dead.” No. Look up! Here’s something else Jesus said, “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself. . .” (John 14:2–3) But then He says, “. . .Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27). Jesus is coming again. God is in control. But let’s pray for our friends in Israel. Let’s pray for the Jewish people. If you’re reading this right now and you’re Jewish, I want you to know that your evangelical friends stand with you now in your hour of need. Let’s continue to pray for this nation of Israel, that God would protect them, that God would lead them, and let’s all make sure we’re ready to meet the Lord—because, well, He could come back at any time. The World Seems to be in a Constant State of Crisis. The reason? They’re waiting for the next shoe to drop – the next major global event that will upend their lives. This is understandable. Over the past four years, we’ve endured COVID, the government response to COVID (lockdowns, passports, mandates, etc.), global supply chain issues, global inflation, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel, the shutdown of Red Sea shipping lanes, and numerous rumors of other major events set to break at any moment. So what’s next? Will it get worse before it gets better? The answer is yes, and this article reveals why. The Interregnum One of the reasons we see all these events taking place is the interregnum. What does that mean? Well, The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition, defines an interregnum as: “The interval of time between the end of a sovereign’s reign and the accession of a successor.” This typically describes a time period between two reigning kings, but in this instance, we’re using it to describe the time period between one superpower or group dominating global affairs and second rising to take its place. The last time we experienced an interregnum of this type was the 1914 to 1945 timeframe. Needless to say, this was quite a tumultuous era – 31 years that included two world wars and a global depression. When 1914 started, the Royal Navy of the British Empire ruled the high seas. The colonies of the British Empire spanned the globe, and it had dominated the 19th Century global order – controlling the world’s shipping lanes, issuing the world’s global reserve currency (the pound), and boasting the world’s premiere center of international finance (London). When 1945 ended, the United States Navy ruled the high seas. U.S. military bases spanned the globe, and the United States dominated the 20th-century global order – controlling the world’s shipping lanes, issuing the world’s global reserve currency (the dollar), and boasting the world’s premiere center of international finance (New York). As 2024 begins, we see U.S. naval power waning. Houthi rebels have shut down the Red Sea to all traffic from Israel, the United States, and their Western allies. Almost 12% of all global trade passes through the Suez Canal, making the Red Sea one of the most vital shipping corridors in the world. For over 80 years, the U.S. Navy has carried out the role of ensuring the world’s shipping lanes remain freely navigable and open to international trade. Now, they are increasingly unable to do so. The ability of the U.S. to project military power across the globe and secure vital waterways is one of the primary reasons the U.S. dollar dominates international trade. Another reason is the petro-dollar. When President Nixon ended the U.S. dollar’s convertibility to gold, it became a fiat currency – meaning its value is derived from nothing more than government edict. Since that day in 1971, all the world’s major currencies have been fiat currencies – something unprecedented in history. History shows all fiat currencies eventually reach their intrinsic value – zero. So what happens when all the world’s currencies collapse at the same time? In 1974, Henry Kissinger brokered a deal with Saudi Arabia wherein OPEC agreed to only trade oil for dollars. This has helped underpin demand for U.S. dollars for the past 50 years, but now the petro-dollar is ending. Saudi Arabia and OPEC are increasingly accepting other currencies for oil. U.S. debt is at unsustainable levels. Foreign nations are dumping U.S. debt in favor of gold, and the BRICS nations are attempting to create an alternative to the U.S.-dominated global financial system. In other words, the post-World War II order of global military power is transforming, and the current global monetary system is coming to an end. All this and more is why we see U.S. power and influence in decline, an increasingly fragmented global order, and a world where it seems we’re moving from one crisis to the next. But I would argue there’s a more significant reason we’re seeing all this. Depending on your preconceived beliefs, you might reject it out of hand. But I encourage you to read on and examine the evidence for yourself. If you do and reject my conclusion, that is fine. But it might just open your eyes to a truth that could change your life forever. What’s Really Happening… If the interregnum alone is not the reason for this constant state of crisis, then what’s really happening? Why do we see all these global events taking place? The answer is simple. Jesus is coming. The constant state of crisis we see today is exactly what Jesus said the world would look like just before his return: “Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?’ Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come” Matthew 24:3-8 (NLT). Read that last line again, where Jesus says, “all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come” (emphasis mine). What does Jesus mean by the phrase “birth pains”? What do the spiritual, natural, societal, and political signs He described have in common with birth pains? Only this – birth pains (or labor contractions) are sharp pains which increase in both frequency and intensity in the moments leading up to birth. Jesus says this same pattern will precede His coming. There’s another name for this pattern. It’s called an exponential curve. If you were to plot labor contractions on a graph, the result would be an exponential curve that increases right up until the time the baby is born. According to Jesus, the signs He describes and the general nature of things in this world will increase in both frequency and intensity just prior to His arrival. In other words, the exponential increase of the signs of His Coming is how we’ll know He’s near. So, what are those signs? Fortunately, we don’t have to guess. Jesus told us. The prophets told us, and the Bible is filled with verses that tell us. Furthermore, Jesus told us how to recognize the general timeframe of His return. When the disciples said, “Tell us the signs of your coming and the end of the age” (Matthew 24:3), Jesus told them a number of things to look for. He then said, “When you see all these things, you can know my return is near. I’m right at the door” (Matthew 24:33). He also said, “When all these things begin to happen, look up for your salvation is near!” (Luke 21:28). This means the #1 indication Jesus will soon return is all the signs appearing together. The Bible tells us what those signs are, and the appearance of just one is reason enough to take notice. But the arrival of one sign after another demands your attention. It’s the sign Jesus said to look for. This convergence of signs confirms our generation will witness the Second Coming – not according to me, but according to Jesus. Below are just a few of those signs. They include: Israel Back in the Land – God promised to bring the Jewish people back into the land of Israel before He returned (Jeremiah 23:7-8). He said He would call them from “among the nations” (Ezekiel 39:28), from “the farthest corners of the earth” (Isaiah 11:12), and from “north, south, east, and west” (Psalm 107:3). He promised to welcome them home from the lands where they were scattered (Ezekiel 20:34). When they did, He promised to return and establish His everlasting kingdom (Isaiah 11:11-12). The Jewish People in Control of Jerusalem – Jesus said armies would surround Jerusalem, destroy the city, and enslave its citizens. The Roman legions fulfilled this prophecy in A.D. 70. Jesus then said non-Jewish people (Gentiles) will control Jerusalem for a time, until the Jewish people once again control Jerusalem. Jesus promised to return once that happened (Luke 21:24-28). Since 1967, the Jewish people have controlled Jerusalem. The Gospel Preached Throughout the World – When asked about the end of the age and the signs of His coming, Jesus said to look for a specific sign. He said the Gospel will be preached throughout the entire world. Every nation will hear it, and then, the end will come (Matthew 24:14). For centuries after the crucifixion, the Gospel rarely left a small area surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. In the past two centuries, Christians have brought the Gospel to every nation in the world. Today, missionaries are in every nation. The Bible is translated into hundreds of languages, and the message of Jesus is sent around the world by radio, T.V., satellite, and the Internet. For the first time in history, we’re on the verge of seeing the Gospel preached to every last person on earth. Digital Currencies – According to the Atlantic Council, 134 countries (representing 98% of the global GDP) are exploring, developing, or preparing to roll out central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). CBDCs will mean government control of programmable currency, giving government insight into every financial transaction taking place. Almost 2,000 years ago, the Bible said: “He required everyone – small and great, rich and poor, free and slave – to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name” Revelation 13:16-17 (NLT). While CBDCs are NOT the mark of the beast, they set the stage for it. CBDCs are indistinguishable in function from the mark of the beast, giving government the power to control who can buy and who can sell. Israel Surrounded by Enemies – The Bible says enemies will surround Israel in the end times. Those enemies will say, “Come, let us wipe away the nation of Israel. Let’s destroy the memory of its existence” (Psalm 83:4) and “Let us take for ourselves these pasturelands of God” (Psalm 83:12). Ezekiel said Israel’s neighbors will say “God has given their land to us” (Ezekiel 11:14‐17), and “Israel and Judah are ours. We will take possession of them. What do we care if their God is there?” (Ezekiel 35:10). Ever since the rebirth of Israel in 1948, the daily headlines have included these Bible verses. Israel’s Muslim neighbors claim the land of Israel for themselves, and they have no regard for the God of Israel. Israel’s Exceedingly Great Army – Ezekiel said, in the end times, Israel will field “an exceedingly great army” (Ezekiel 37:10). Zechariah said Israel will be like a fire among sheaves of grain, burning up the neighboring nations (Zechariah 12:6) and even the weakest Israeli soldier will be like David (Zechariah 12:8). Since 1948, Israel has fought no less than four conventional wars against its neighbors. Despite being outnumbered more than 50 to 1, Israel has achieved overwhelming victory every time. Rise of the Gog of Magog Alliance – The Bible says a military alliance that includes Russia, Iran, Turkey, and a number of Muslim nations will attack Israel “in the latter days” (Ezekiel 38:8) when God brings His people home from among the enemy nations (Ezekiel 39:27). Today, we see those very nations coming together for the first time – an alliance that has never existed in world history. Rise of a United Europe – The Bible says a revived Roman Empire will come to power in the end times (Daniel 2, Daniel 7, Revelation 17). According to Daniel, it will be a ten-nation alliance of weak and strong nations. Some parts will be as strong as iron, while other parts will be as weak as clay (Daniel 2:42). We see the beginning of this alliance in the European Union – a coalition of weak and strong nations struggling to stay together. The Rise of Global Government – The Bible says a single government will rule the world politically (Revelation 13:7), religiously (Revelation 13:8), and economically (Revelation 13:16‐17) in the last days. It will rule over “all people, tribes, and languages” on the face of the earth (Revelation 13:7). Its authority will be so complete that no one will be able to buy or sell anything without its permission (Revelation 13:16‐17). For centuries, a true global government was impossible. Today, world leaders openly discuss it. Denial of the Signs – Almost two thousand years ago, Peter issued a warning. He said in the last days people will mock the idea of Jesus returning. They will make fun of those who believe in the Second Coming and say exactly what we hear today – things like, “I thought Jesus was coming back? What happened to His promise? Generation after generation has said He’s coming. Yet, since the beginning of the world, everything has remained the same!” (2 Peter 3:3‐4). The World is in Crisis Because Jesus is Coming Keep in mind, these signs haven’t always been present. Generations of Christians lived and died without witnessing any of these signs. For centuries of Christian history, none of these signs were present. Today, they all are. Jesus said when you see these signs, you can know His return is near. He’s right at the door (Matthew 24:33). In fact, Jesus said the generation witnessing these signs will not pass away before He returns (Matthew 24:34). The convergence of all these signs confirms it. Moreover, Jesus compared these signs to birth pains. So it shouldn’t surprise us to see global events increasing in frequency and intensity. We should expect this constant state of crisis. Jesus is coming. When He arrives, will you be ready? Jesus says you’re either for Him or against Him (Matthew 12:30). He also says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Furthermore, Jesus said: “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil” John 3:18-19 (NLT). So if you don’t know Jesus, I encourage you to invite Him into your life today. The Bible says you will not be disappointed (Romans 10:11). But it wasn’t always this way. When I was growing up in the 1980s, it seemed like almost everyone was middle class. Of course, there were wealthy people and poor people in the 1980s too, but the vast majority of the population was comfortably somewhere in the middle. Sadly, things have changed so much since that time. Today, most of the people that I know are struggling. According to a report that was just released, in all 50 states it now takes an income of more than $100,000 in order for a family of four to live “the American Dream”… A new report from GOBankingRates used that framework to analyze how much money a family of two adults and two children would need in each state to own a home, a car and a pet. The report tallied estimated annual essential expenses for such a family and then doubled that figure. Using that framework, GoBankingRates found that all 50 states require more than a $100,000 annual income, according to the report, with 38 states needing more than $140,000. Is your family bringing in more than $100,000 a year? If not, “the American Dream” is not for you. Sorry. Our leaders purposely pursued policies that they knew would cause inflation, and when new money enters the system most of it tends to flow into the hands of those at the top of the economic food chain. So the ultra-wealthy have been doing very well in this economic environment, but high inflation is absolutely eviscerating all the rest of us. At this point, it takes the average U.S. household an extra $1,069 per month just to purchase the same goods and services that it did three years ago… Inflation is once again gaining steam, forcing the average American to shell out a lot more money for everyday necessities. The typical U.S. household needed to pay $227 more a month in March to purchase the same goods and services it did one year ago because of still-high inflation, according to calculations from Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi shared with FOX Business. Americans are paying on average $784 more each month compared with the same time two years ago and $1,069 more compared with three years ago, before the inflation crisis began. What we are witnessing is the collapse of the middle class. The cost of living has been rising faster than incomes have been, and that is putting an extraordinary amount of financial stress on U.S. households. For example, the cost of auto insurance has risen more than 22 percent over the past 12 months… The cost of auto insurance rose 2.6% in March, bringing the total annual gain to 22.2% — the fastest yearly rate on record. When compared with the beginning of 2021, before the inflation crisis began, motor vehicle insurance is more than 50% more expensive. Housing costs have been increasing at an even faster pace. If you can believe it, the average monthly mortgage payment on a newly purchased home has risen by 96 percent in just four years… The real estate firm Zillow reports that since January 2020, the monthly mortgage payment on a typical U.S. home has nearly doubled. It’s up 96% in just four years. According to Zillow, a typical buyer will now pay nearly $2,200 a month, with a 10% down payment. Meaning, homeownership now costs well above the 30% of median income that was once thought to equate to “affordable” housing cost in America. Home ownership is now out of reach for a huge chunk of the population. Needless to say, that isn’t a good thing. Why aren’t the American people more upset about all of this? In a desperate attempt to maintain a middle class standard of living, many Americans are piling up enormous amounts of debt. According to CNBC, some economists believe “that debt growth has become a substitution for income growth”… Economists have suggested that debt growth has become a substitution for income growth. Student loan debt reached an all-time high of $1.77 trillion in the first quarter of 2023 and Americans collectively owe $1.13 trillion on their credit cards as of the fourth quarter of 2023. This debt can have a ripple effect, especially when entire generations are starting their adulthoods with thousands of dollars in debt. In many cases, people that have greatly overextended themselves now find themselves absolutely drowning in debt. One 28-year-old woman that purchased a Chevy Tahoe three years ago still owed $74,000 to GM Financial and was eventually forced to sell the vehicle… Three years ago, 28-year-old Blaisey Arnold entered a local auto dealership and came away with the keys to an $84,000 Chevy Tahoe. But this month, the wedding photographer and mother shared a video to TikTok describing how she was forced to sell her dream car. Despite paying $1,400 a month in payments totaling more than $50,000, she still owes a balance of $74,000 to her lender – GM Financial. Can you believe that? Of course she is far from alone. At this point, millions upon millions of Americans have gotten into trouble with debt, and credit card delinquency rates have risen to unprecedented levels… Delinquency rates among American credit card holders are at an all-time high, while at the same time a record number of “active accounts” have “a balance of over $2,000,” according to a Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia report. If Americans really understood what our politicians in Washington and the “experts” at the Federal Reserve were doing to us, there would be massive protests in the streets right now. These days, a lot of Americans that had actually retired are now heading back to work due to the rapidly rising cost of living. Hope Murray is one of those people… Hope Murray retired in 2013 after a 50-year career that ranged from game show producer to Hollywood party planner to casino executive. She settled into a life of golf, game nights and pickleball in her San Diego community, her daughter living nearby. Then things got more expensive. Gas was nearly $5 a gallon, medication costs were adding up, the grocery bill was increasing. Can you imagine going back to work when you are 80 years old? That is what she had to do, and now she spends her retirement years handing out samples at Costco… So last October, at the age of 80, Murray ended her retirement and got a job giving out samples at Costco. She likes observing the people – some go grocery shopping in heels and a full face of makeup and others wear pajamas and slippers. Some people take one sample and others gobble three or four. “It just comes into my checking account every other week, and I can pay for everything,” she said of her $18-an-hour paycheck. In recent months, prices have started to surge once again. It has become clear that the cost of living crisis is not going away any time soon. The middle class in the United States is going to continue to shrink, and that is not good news for any of us. The Rejection of Absolute Truth Has Become A Dangerous Modern-Day Fad – By David Reagan - https://harbingersdaily.com/the-rejection-of-absolute-truth-has-become-a-dangerous-modern-day-fad/ Whenever an issue like abortion is raised, those who believe in it always start arguing that there is no right or wrong concerning the issue. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and their particular opinion is that a woman should have “freedom of choice.” The right of a woman to kill the baby in her womb is considered to be a morally neutral action. The mantra of the Post-Modern Era is the statement, “There is no such thing as absolute truth.” Truth is viewed as being relative. You have your truth, and I have mine, and neither of us have the right to declare that our truth is the absolute truth. This mantra is a lie. First of all, it is hypocritical. Think about it: When a person asserts there is no absolute truth, he is uttering an absolute truth statement! He is saying, “It is an absolute truth that there is no such thing as absolute truth.” The statement is self-contradictory. Absolute Truths Everyone — and I mean everyone — believes in absolute truth. For example, here are some absolute truths that all would agree with:
The list could go on and on, ad infinitum. If you still do not believe in absolute truth, let me ask you some questions:
An Absolute Fact The reality regarding absolute truth is that those who insist it does not exist, really believe that it does not exist in only two areas of life — namely, sexual morality and religion. They reject absolute truth regarding sexual activity because they desire to be promiscuous and do not want to be held accountable. But absolute truth applies to sex. The Word of God proclaims that the only sex that is acceptable to our Creator is between a husband and wife. All other forms, whether fornication, adultery, bestiality, pedophilia, etc — all are immoral and thus a sin against God. That applies also to same-sex marriage. The rejection of absolute truth regarding religion has become a modern day fad that is often expressed as, “There are many roads to God.” This statement is not only biblically untrue, it is also logically nonsensical. Let’s take Islam and Christianity as an example. Christianity affirms that Jesus was the Son of God, that He was God in the flesh. Islam denies that. Christianity teaches that there is one God in three persons. Islam denies that. Christianity teaches that salvation comes by grace through faith as a gift of God. Islam teaches that salvation must be earned through good works. Islam teaches that Jesus did not die on a cross, nor was He resurrected from the dead. Christianity affirms both of these events as historical fact. Now it is logically true that both Christianity and Islam could be wrong, but it is logically impossible to assert that both are true. We know, of course, that Christianity is the only way to God because Jesus Himself declared, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, and no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). What Jesus said here is either a lie or the truth. If He truly was God in the flesh, then what He said is true. And we know for certain He was God in the flesh because He fulfilled over 100 Bible prophecies, because He was resurrected from the dead, and because He continues today to radically transform the lives of those who put their faith in Him. A Distinction There is a distinction between absolute truths in the physical realm and those that apply to morals. It has to do with what happens when the truths are violated. In the physical realm a violation of the laws of nature will produce immediate results. Again, if you step off a roof, you will immediately fall to the ground. The situation is different with respect to moral laws. If they are violated in secret, the only immediate result will be a feeling of guilt, unless the conscience has been seared. More drastic results may be delayed, but those results are inevitable. For example, an adultery may be discovered immediately, but on the other hand, it may continue for years without detection. But when detected, whether immediately or later, there will be painful consequences that those involved must face because an absolute law has been violated. Higher Law When it comes to the absolute moral laws of the universe — what are often referred to as Natural Law — they cannot be changed or overridden by man-made law. Men may pass legislation to legalize abortion or homosexuality, but that does not make either one moral or legal in the eyes of God. At the Nuremberg War Crime Trials in 1945-1946, when we tried the Nazi leaders of World War II, each of them pleaded innocent on the grounds that they were simply following the orders of their government. We rejected that defense because we argued that national law cannot invalidate Natural Law. To kill innocent people simply because they were Jews was morally unjustifiable, even if the murders were ordered by the state and were therefore legal. Our prosecutors at Nuremberg stood for the absolute truth of a Higher Law — what Man calls Natural Law, but is in reality the Law of God. We convicted the Nazi leaders of war crimes, and we executed them for violating the absolute truth, given by God, that murder is an anathema. The Ten Commandments The Ten Commandments are an expression of absolute spiritual and moral truths. They were given to Man by God, not to enslave us with rules, but to liberate us from sinful consequences that can make our lives miserable. The Commandments tell us that there is only one God, and that we are to worship Him, and Him only. Hindus worship thousands of gods — all of which are false gods — and the result is that their societies are characterized by superstition, fear, social injustice and extreme poverty. The Commandments warn us about coveting. Our society has ignored this warning. The result is that we have become a materialistic people driven by greed. The more we get, the more we want. We are never satisfied with what we have. The results are discontent, white collar crime, addiction to gambling, and mental illness, among other dysfunctions. The Bible makes it clear that it is an absolute truth that there are absolute truths. And the Bible makes it equally clear that those who violate those absolute truths will suffer painful consequences, for God cannot be mocked (Galatians 6:7). Daily Jot: Stupidocrisy: Stupid interpretations of the eclipse - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com The Bible tells us that God put signs in the sky to alert us to the seasons, the days, and the years and to Inform us of The LORD’s appointed times, such as the feasts. Much of what the Bible says about the signs in the sky, including Christ himself, point to the return of the Messiah, the Day of the Lord. Joel 2:30-31, for example, says “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth…The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.” This is repeated in Acts 2 by Peter. Revelation is very specific about the signs in the sky. A lack of understanding of these signs can result in the wildest theories, as we saw with the recent eclipse. It was amazing to observe the crazy interpretations of the eclipse, especially by the political left that demonstrated their lack of knowledge of both God and science. It’s sad that these people can admit that there are signs in the sky placed by God, but not really believe in God, nor even understand the science they say they believe. One fine example is Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) who took the eclipse opportunity to wow Houston high school students with her vast knowledge of science (she previously served on the House Science Committee). She told the students that the moon was a “planet” and “made up of mostly gases,” which would prevent humans from living there. WHAT? On Monday’s “The View,” ABC legal analyst Sunny Hostin made fun of her makeup artist that thought an earthquake and the eclipse was the sign of the Rapture. She said the makeup artist ran down the hallway saying “Jesus is coming. I’m out. I’m leaving. We got a solar eclipse. We’ve got an earthquake.” Then Hostin said that the cicadas coming, the eclipse and the earthquake, “all those things together, would maybe lead one to believe that either climate change exists, or something is really going on.” Joy Behar reminded her that earthquakes are not climate change related because they are underground. Whoopi Goldberg pontificated that cicadas and eclipses were cyclical and that “God doesn’t give you a warning…God does stuff and then you figure, oh.” Such wisdom. Politicians used the eclipse to misinform students of science. Actors, TV news “journalists” and others used the eclipse to promote their political agenda. Even many in the religious community have extra-biblical, emotional and self-indulgent ideas of what the eclipse meant. But I tell you the truth: If there is no contextual understanding of the Holy Scriptures about the signs in the sky, there is a wide berth for error. These people often claim they don’t even believe the scriptures, yet they try to tell the world the meaning of the signs in scripture, showing stupidity. Maybe as a student, you discovered the well-worn classic that has been used by generations: “The dog ate my homework.” As the years go by, you start getting new excuses to rationalize your behavior, such as “Everybody was doing it.” Then, as you get a little older, you discover other excuses like “The alarm didn’t go off,” “Traffic was really bad,” and “The check is in the mail.” People also come up with excuses as to why they don’t come into a relationship with Jesus Christ. They call them reasons and might even classify them as questions. But when you get down to it, they are nothing more than excuses. Maybe you know what it’s like to share the gospel with someone who barrages you with a mass of arguments and difficult-to-answer questions. However, there is only one reason that people aren’t putting their faith in Christ. It isn’t because they’re necessarily struggling with the gospel message philosophically or intellectually. Nor is it because they’re skeptics or agnostics. It is not about whether there are contradictions in the Bible. Instead, these are excuses. They’re attempts to cover up the real reason, which is this: they love darkness and don’t want to change. Jesus said, “And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed” (John 3:19–20 NLT). Deep inside they know that becoming a Christian will require change. So, they hide behind a well-worn excuse. They don’t want to turn from their darkness. They don’t want the wind of the Spirit to blow into their lives and bring about change. They don’t want to be born again. Notice Jesus said that “people loved the darkness more than the light.” It is not only that they tolerated darkness or lived in it. They loved it. And there are people today who love sin as well. What is the worst sin a person can commit? According to the Bible, it is unbelief. Unbelief is a choice. It is hearing the facts of the gospel and saying, “I’m choosing not to believe that. I don’t want to believe that.” This is not to say that people don’t have legitimate questions. There are people with skepticism about the Christian faith. Yet Jesus always will reveal Himself to the genuine seeker. However, some people think they can continually put off coming to Christ. But they need to know something. There comes a point of no return in the human life. And if they continue in a pattern of rejecting Jesus Christ, they can go beyond that point. We can’t change the fact that people love darkness. We can only pray that they will see their need for Jesus Christ.
