The world is staggering under the weight of billions of bad decisions — bad decisions by regular citizens and by the world’s leaders. Of those choices, one stands out as particularly dangerous — the decision to blame Jews for humanity’s problems. We have seen where this decision leads. The Nazis took it to a place they called Endlösung. In English, that means, “The Final Solution.” Adolf Hitler built his whole sorry career on extreme hatred of Jews. In his book, Mein Kempf, he blamed Jews for mankind’s worst evils. He spoke of “the Jewish question” as a primary problem for humanity — a problem he could solve. His solution was simple. In 1922, three years before Mein Kempf, Hitler told a journalist, “Once I really am in power, my first and foremost task will be the annihilation of the Jews.” Of course, no one believed him. He said it, but if his voice entered the consciousness of most people at all, it did so as something of an oddity from the outer fringe. At first, no one thought he would gain power. When he did, they assumed his power would be checked by more moderate forces. He abused Jews from the beginning, but that abuse did not start with “annihilation.” He did not pull the trigger on his plan to exterminate Jews until December 12, 1941 — one day after declaring war on the United States. On that day, Hitler held a secret meeting with 50 Nazi officials, including their Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels. There are no official minutes from the meeting, but in his journal, Goebbels wrote, “With respect of the Jewish Question, the Führer has decided to make a clean sweep. He prophesied to the Jews that if they again brought about a world war, they would live to see their annihilation in it. That wasn’t just a catchword.… If the German people have now again sacrificed 160,000 dead on the eastern front, then those responsible for this bloody conflict will have to pay with their lives.” Hitler had decided to exterminate an entire people, to engage in actual genocide. The Nazis called it the final solution. We call it the Holocaust. They decided to rid Europe of Jews by murdering them. Germany was a modern nation filled with intelligent, educated people. They were children of the Enlightenment. They weren’t so different from us. That point was brought home to me again in the last few days when I saw a sign that featured a large Palestinian flag and a small Israeli flag beside the words, “Final Solution.” This was not in some faraway land. It was at George Washington University. That sign is a clear and obvious reference to the Holocaust — a call for the destruction, not just of Israel, but of all Jews. What happened in Germany eight decades ago started as something small and from the fringe of society. This time it has spread to the whole world. Jewish students at American universities are being bullied and belittled; threatened and injured. They are not alone. It is a worldwide phenomenon. How far will it go? The Bible teaches that hatred of Jews will be a feature of the last days. I had hoped it would be a post-rapture phenomenon — that the Church would be morally strong enough to hold back this evil as long as the Church stays on earth. It still could. When I was growing up, I was convinced that I believed in a shared set of national values that most other Americans also embraced. But in our day and age those values have been discarded and now people that see the world the way that I do are clearly not in the majority any longer. I know that a lot of people out there may not want to hear that our national values have been turned upside down, but it is the truth. Those that sought to “fundamentally transform” this country have succeeded, and at this point “American values” are vastly different from the “American values” that I cherished as a young boy. The following are 7 numbers that clearly reveal the direction that America has chosen… #1 There is more political chaos in our nation than there has ever been in my entire lifetime, and more than 40 percent of U.S. voters actually believe that a “second civil war” is likely within the next five years… More than four-in-ten US voters say the country is likely to get ripped apart in a second civil war within five years, a shocking new survey reveals. The Rasmussen Reports poll shows that 41 percent eye a civil conflict, compared to 49 percent who say it’s not likely. Another 10 percent said they were not sure. That amounts to 106 million US adults saying civil war is on the horizon. The survey comes against a backdrop of mounting violence on US college campuses, where pro-Palestine protestors clash with law enforcers, conservatives, some Jewish students and others. #2 According to a recent Gallup survey, only 36 percent of Americans approve of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza… After narrowly backing Israel’s military action in Gaza in November, Americans now oppose the campaign by a solid margin. Fifty-five percent currently disapprove of Israel’s actions, while 36% approve. The latest results are from a March 1-20 survey. The Israel-Hamas war has continued for five months and has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians and over 1,000 Israelis. Major parts of Gaza have been destroyed, complicating efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians still living there. The United Nations and international community, including the Biden administration, have called for a cease-fire, but the two warring sides have been unable to agree. #3 65 percent of Americans do not approve of the Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade… About two-thirds (65%) oppose the 2022 Supreme Court decision, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, and 34% approve, numbers that have remained effectively unchanged in CNN’s polling across the nearly two years since the ruling. Those who strongly disapprove of the decision continue to outnumber those who strongly approve by a more than 2-to-1 margin. A 69% majority who disapprove of overturning Roe, including 82% of those who strongly disapprove, say that federal politicians should work to pass laws ensuring national abortion access. Those who support the ruling largely say federal politicians shouldn’t take action on the issue: 59% say laws on abortion should be left up to the states, with 29% in favor of further restrictions to abortion access nationwide. New national restrictions are supported by just about one-quarter of Republicans, White Evangelical Christians and those who describe themselves as conservative. #4 More than 20 percent of Generation Z adults (22.3 percent to be specific) now identify as LGBTQ+… Overall, each younger generation is about twice as likely as the generation that preceded it to identify as LGBTQ+. More than one in five Gen Z adults, ranging in age from 18 to 26 in 2023, identify as LGBTQ+, as do nearly one in 10 millennials (aged 27 to 42). The percentage drops to less than 5% of Generation X, 2% of baby boomers and 1% of the Silent Generation. Bisexuality is the most common LGBTQ+ status among Generation Z, millennials and Generation X. Fifteen percent of all Generation Z adults — representing more than two-thirds of those with an LGBTQ+ identification — are bisexual. #5 According to the Daily Mail, the number of transgender troops in the U.S. Army has doubled since 2020… The Pentagon has spent more than $26million treating transgender troops since 2020, official records show. The number of US army staff with gender dysphoria has doubled in that time — from around 1,800 to 3,700, according to DoD data seen by DailyMail.com. In the past three years, $17.5m in taxpayer money was spent on psychotherapy for trans service people and $1.5m went towards hormone drugs. A further $7.6m funded gender-affirming surgeries, including facial tweaks to make a recruit more masculine or feminine, and the removal or creation of breasts and genitals. #6 By a vote of 692 to 51, the United Methodist Church has voted to approve LGBTQ clergy and same sex weddings in their churches… The United Methodist Church, one of the largest Protestant denominations in the U.S., has voted to repeal its ban on LGBTQ clergy as well as prohibitions on its ministers from officiating at same-sex weddings. Delegates overwhelmingly approved the changes, 692 to 51, during the United Methodist Church’s General Conference. The meeting is taking place this week in Charlotte, N.C. after the pandemic delayed the 2020 General Conference where these decisions had been slated to take place. #7 Only 3.6 million babies were born in the U.S. last year, and the birth rate is now at the lowest level ever recorded… The birth rate in the US has declined to a new low, according to data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The figures show that fewer than 3.6 million babies were born in the US last year, the lowest amount since 1979 and equating to the lowest fertility rate EVER recorded. The CDC analyzed the 2023 data and found that the birth rate is down 2 percent on the previous year. If you go back to 1960, the average U.S. woman gave birth to 3.65 children during her lifetime. Today, that number has fallen all the way down to 1.6. But we need a birth rate of at least 2.1 just to keep replacing ourselves. If we didn’t have so much immigration going on, our population would be steadily falling. In my latest book entitled “Chaos”, I have an entire chapter about the population collapse that is happening in wealthy nations all over the industrialized world. It is often said that children are the future of our society, but we have greatly devalued marriage and parenthood. Meanwhile, birth rates are still very high in many nations in the Middle East and elsewhere. Given enough time, those that are willing to multiply would become increasingly powerful and those that are not willing to multiply would become less powerful. But the fact that we aren’t reproducing ourselves is just one of the existential problems that we are facing. At this point we live in an upside down society that has rejected the values that this nation was founded upon. I’ve included a large block of that article here. Like the current article’s title indicates, those changes, and they are profound, have indeed happened. Here is the gist of that 2020 commentary and my current take on what it all might mean moving forward. (From the 2020 article) While we investigate constantly the many signals that future Bible prophecy is on the verge of fulfillment, there remains the truth of the matters involved: Tremendous change must take place in order for that fulfillment to actually transpire. The United States of America, for example, must fade from view. It is far from that prospect at present; in fact, our nation is front and center at every level of international interaction. Under the Trump administration, the nation has become that much more at the center of world affairs. The US president is a powerful force, with a personal presence and personality that when other leaders are in his company, they are changed from their otherwise contrarian demeanors. This is not to just laud Mr. Trump. It is fact. Even the Chinese dictator, Xi Jinping, when in the direct presence of Mr. Trump, has been almost acquiescent in past meetings in Florida and other places. The president has proven “stage presence,” which seems, at the very least, to impress and, in some instances, to intimidate. In major meetings with other world leaders, America is front and center in determining the direction of those gatherings because Donald J. Trump is there and seems to personally take charge. The other leaders—at least those of the Western world—seem to acquiesce to his suggestions and proposals. Of course, their demeanors often change once they’re no longer face to face with the president. In many cases, they go back to their contradictory ways. The point is that America is in a stronger position for leadership in the world than it’s been in many, many years. This cannot stand from the standpoint of Bible prophecy. As we’ve looked at many times, America is found by name nowhere in Scripture. We concede it could be there by implication, like when we infer that the “young lions” said to be among the nations who protest the Gog-Magog invasion (Ezekiel chapter 38) could refer to America as an offspring of England. But that is a weak position in trying to make the point that America is in Bible prophecy for certain. So there must be a radical change in this matter alone. America, the most powerful nation ever to have existed in terms of economic, technological, and military achievements in the history of mankind, must suffer profound diminishment, at the very least. And Mr. Trump and America are at the heart of another significant change that must take place. It involves history’s most important nation from Heaven’s perspective—Israel. Israel, in its own right, stands as the most powerful nation among its Middle Eastern counterparts. It has nuclear weaponry and technological capability to engage in war, the likes of which none among the diplomatic world can fully know—i.e., the weaponry that the Israeli military possesses is a highly protected secret. On top of that, Israel is now, under the Trump administration, backed up by the world’s only superpower, the United States of America. This is perhaps the greatest factor that must undergo dramatic change. The change must take place in the most astonishing way possible because Israeli political and military leadership, regardless of whether conservative or liberal, hawkish or dovish, are in agreement. They know they are surrounded by those who hate the nation and who don’t want the Jewish state to exist. Therefore, Israel must never give up its vigilance against this surrounding enemy. It must always have the very best defensive and even offensive capability in order to avoid annihilation. Iran, of course, is Israel’s number-one threat. The ayatollahs are constantly promising to wipe the Jewish state from the Middle East map. Israel will, it’s stated by those in the know, immediately introduce the so-called Samson Option if it’s ever about to lose in a military conflict. To start war with Israel would likely be to light the fuse that will ignite World War III… Just considering Israel and America’s positions in current issues and events brings us to conclude that major changes are coming. America must fall or be diminished from its superpower status. Israel must somehow give up its great defensive and offensive military capabilities in order to meet prophetic pronouncements by the prophet Ezekiel. Ezekiel said Israel will be in “unwalled villages” at the time of the Gog-Magog attack from its north. This means the Jewish state will not be capable of defending itself. Ezekiel says that God promises to do the defending of His chosen people. And it will be an offensive show of power unlike any in history prior to Armageddon itself. Almost certainly, the Rapture of the Church will bring about the conditions for these profound changes that must take place. Those changes could be initiated…well…in the “twinkling of an eye.” (Back to today May of 2024) Need I remind anyone who has kept up with these matters and who read our column articles that the phrase “profound change” is a tremendous understatement? That is, the changes that have taken place since President Trump left office are monumental –to say the least. America has transformed from a nation of sound mind and sound national body to something people who died prior to 2020 and beyond would, I’m convinced, scarcely recognize. The orchestration of America’s moving down the road of Prophetic Progression, as my partner in Raptureready.com, Todd Strandberg, has coined the term, has come as from an unseen, supernatural Maestro. The conductor, I have tried to point out through many articles and books, is none other than the leader of the Ephesians 6:12 cabal of wickedness in high places. Large in Satan’s orchestration and direction was the COVID so-called pandemic that picked up steam just as the November presidential election came. Lockdowns, not only nationally but worldwide, were unlike anything ever seen in human history. The effects on American life were profound. But the effects on the electoral process for the 2020 presidential election were profound indeed. COVID-engendered stay-at-home voting and other things that, in my opinion, led to cheating on a massive scale, brought into the Oval Office in January of 2021 the most destructive administration imaginable –even more destructive than that of Mr. Obama, who promised before his election to “fundamentally transform America.” As I’ve written before, a portal from the nether regions seems to have been opened and is opening wider by the day. Evil is gushing into our once-blessed nation at a rate that again can only be called Profound. How else is explainable the woke insanity that has even public school administrators trying to change the gender of young school children by turning them over to those who would think to try to change boys into girls and girls into boys through drugs and even mutilations? And this while, through legal processes, trying to keep parents from interfering? How else is it explained that LGBTQ-plus entities, only a small percentage of the American culture, are now dictating much of how this society must adhere to Sodom-like ungodliness –or face governmental punitive action? And the symbolic love for Sodom-like wickedness now allowed to be displayed by turning the rainbow colors of the LGBTQ movement upon the White House blatantly demonstrates in dramatic fashion how this once great republic is on the verge of going the way of that wicked, doomed region of Lot’s day. Those changes I feared were coming are here. I’m not prescient and deserve no credit for predicting what we see has now transpired. It is all in God’s Prophetic Word. That’s why it is important for pastors to preach and teach it to their congregants. That is why it is vital for believers to read and study the Prophetic Word as well as other parts of God’s Word. The Bible is the only Truth that can tell you and me exactly where we stand on God’s Prophetic Timeline. –Because Jesus Christ is the Word –John 1:1. Jesus is the Way, Truth and Life. He is the Blessed Hope –the Redeemer– Who is coming to rescue believers from the destruction that is coming upon this nation and world that is filling each and every hour with anti-God evil. You don’t want to be here when the Lord must Judge and destroy in preparation for His Second Coming. Here is how to be a part of that pre-Tribulation Rescue (Luke 21:28). “That if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and will believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10). Neither Christ-Centered nor Biblical: Examining The Dangers Of The New Apostolic Reformation – By David Bowen - https://harbingersdaily.com/neither-christ-centered-nor-biblical-examining-the-dangers-of-the-new-apostolic-reformation/ A movement is, by definition, an organized effort to change how something is seen and/or functions. The New Apostolic Reformation, commonly known as NAR, has been called both a movement and a theological belief. NAR is neither a Christ-centered movement nor a biblically correct theology. What is NAR, what do they believe, and when did it start? The NAR Roots The establishment of this movement is traced back to C. Peter Wagner, who was the presiding apostle of the International Coalition of Apostles and the Founding Apostle of Eagles Vision Apostolic Team. Wagner claimed apostles and prophets would rule the Church of the 21st century. This movement was birthed as Wagner became known for teaching and promoting church growth and spiritual warfare. As a visionary apostolic leader, he anointed himself NAR’s “Presiding Apostle.” The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) does not have a formal membership. In 1998, Wagner authored a book entitled Churchquake, with its subheading The New Apostolic Reformation, is shaking up the church as we know it. In this work, Wagner examines the present-day grassroots apostolic church networks that are unofficially bound together by a shared theology. He claimed that the NAR was not involved in politics; however, in June 2022, his original book, Dominion, which was republished as Dominion!: Your Role in Bringing Heaven to Earth, secured the separation of the NAR from the main-line evangelical Christian church. According to New Apostolic beliefs, mankind lost its dominion over earth with the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden. The NAR teaches Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross only resolved our sin debt; it did not reestablish man’s dominion over the earth. Authority and Leadership of the Apostles and Prophets The foundation of the NAR movement is built around the belief that the authority and leadership of the apostles and prophets were suppressed during the early establishment of the Church. The headship of apostles and prophets was eliminated and replaced with pastors and elders. The NAR believes the result of this switch in authority caused the Church to become powerless to fulfill the Great Commission. However, things changed in 2001 when the NAR announced that the Church was entering the Second Apostolic Age. In 2004, Wagner wrote The Second Apostolic Age: How God Is Leading His Church into the Future. Wagner’s leadership and influence can be seen in how authors such as Donald Rumble followed Wagner and published a work entitled Apostolic & Prophetic Foundations: Giving the Lord Back His Church. The N in NAR The N in NAR stands for the word new. This “New” theology proclaims that this movement receives new revelations from God. These new revelations center mainly around the receiving of signs and wonders and the fighting of spiritual warfare where apostles cast out high-ranking demons that currently control cities and nations. This movement also calls for a deliberate pursuit of societal control, primarily by assuming cultural and political control of society. The A in NAR The A in NAR stands for apostolic, as it centers on its leaders restoring the lost office of apostle to the Church. The apostle’s office includes authority and miraculous powers in the church and society. The R in NAR The R in NAR stands for reformation. Again, this reformation revolves around the pursuit of having societal control. This control of society is established around beliefs such as the Seven Mountain Mandate. The term Seven Mountain Mandate was coined by Lance Wallnau, a speaker, author, and founder of the Lance Learning Group. This mandate teaches Jesus cannot return until all His enemies have been put under the feet of the Church. This means Jesus can not return until the Church takes control over the seven aspects of society. The seven mountains are: family, religion, business, government, education, media, and entertainment. Those named mountains represent the arenas the new apostles believe they can and will gain dominion over, which will then usher in the Kingdom of God now. Ushering in the Kingdom of God now is the foundation for another aspect of the NAR movement, known as Kingdom Now Theology. The Organizational Structure The organizational structure of NAR is built around two offices: apostles and prophets. The primary role of apostles in the NAR movement is to govern the Church. They are seen as filling the highest office in the Church, but like prophets, apostles can also give new divine revelation. The primary function of prophets is to receive new divine revelations. NAR leaders recognize prophets as filling the second highest office in the Church, with the highest office being that of apostle. As far as the role church pastors and teachers have, it is understood that they do not receive new revelation. Their roles are to teach the new revelation that has been received by the NAR apostles and prophets. What is so Dangerous about NAR Teaching? One must understand that NAR prophets are not expected to be 100 percent accurate in their predictions. This theology is in direct contrast to Deuteronomy 18:20-22 which clearly states a sign of a false prophet is one who gives false prophecies. In 2010, Bill Harmon, a well-known NAR teacher and author, wrote a book dealing with prophets and personal prophecy. The book is called Prophetic Scriptures Yet to Be Fulfilled: During the 3rd and Final Reformation. C Peter Wagner wrote the forward for this work. Also, in 2012, Harmon wrote another book called Prophets and Personal Prophecy: God’s Prophetic Voice Today: Guidelines for Receiving, Understanding, and Fulfilling God’s Personal Word to You. Oral Roberts wrote the forward to that work. What is interesting about that last book is in chapter ten, Harmon wrote about why some NAR personal prophecies of prosperity fail to be fulfilled. The Great End-Time Transfer of Wealth Another danger of the NAR’s teaching is what is known as the great end-time transfer of wealth. Many leaders in the NAR movement teach that before Christ returns, God will transfer control of the world’s wealth from the hands of the wicked to the hands of the NAR apostles. The purpose of this wealth transfer is to give the Church the resources it needs to establish God’s earthly kingdom. The New Apostolic Reformation comprises hundreds of churches and organizations led by apostles and prophets who share a distinct theology. Many churches and organizations have joined “apostolic networks.” such as Harvest International Ministry—a network of over 12,000 churches—and the International Coalition of Apostles. The NAR movement has its own global television network, founded in 1995, called GOD TV, which broadcasts NAR teachings in more than 200 nations. One NAR organization with a large online following is the International House of Prayer (IHOP), which is based in Kansas City, Missouri. Thousands of people watch IHOP conferences online. Another NAR organization is the Elijah List, which is said to send daily emails with prophecies and teachings from NAR leaders to more than 130,000 subscribers. God’s Generals Wagner, in his book Dominion! shares how NAR leaders teach that they and their followers will develop vast supernatural powers and perform miracles surpassing those of the first-century apostles and prophets. In chapter 17 of Bill Harmon’s 1997 book Apostles, Prophets and the Coming Moves of God: God’s End-Time Plans for His Church and Planet Earth, he writes about how God is preparing His Church and His generals, referring to the apostles and prophets as God’s generals. He explains how people who receive the new revelation given by NAR apostles and prophets will gain more and more supernatural powers, and eventually, they will be able to overcome sickness and death and execute God’s judgments on earth. We do not need new revelations from self-proclaimed apostles and prophets. First Corinthians 15 proclaims because of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross and His resurrection, all who believe in Him will have victory over death and the promise of eternal life. And, we do not need new revelations from so-called apostles and prophets to know the truth of Scripture. Romans 8:18 reminds us that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For now, we can rejoice in the promise of Titus 2:13 as we wait for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus. Daily Jot: It was then as it is today - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com Republican President George W Bush was the first president to ever publicly advocate a Palestinian state and apply constant and forceful pressure for Israel to give up its land. Bush’s vision was a Palestinian state living side by side in peace with Israel. He put the full weight of his administration behind pressuring Israel into giving up Gaza in 2005 to “Palestinians.” On August 18, 2005, The Daily Jot reported, “Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has unilaterally given up Gaza as a peace offering to the Palestinians. The Palestinians have answered with the slogan “Gaza today, Jerusalem tomorrow.” Palestinian leaders at the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and at Islamic Jihad now claim victory and demand Jerusalem.” It was then as it is today. On August 14, 2005, The Daily Jot reported: “The later part of August will mark for the first time in history Jews evicting Jews from the Promised Land. This event could very well be a watermark that accelerates prophetic events in the months and years ahead. It is almost chilling to watch the events leading up to Israeli Prime Minister Arial Sharon’s so-called “disengagement” plan as the world pressures Israel to unilaterally give up covenant land for the mere hope upon hope that there might be a semblance of peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Former Sharon cabinet member and once Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu plead with Israeli leadership last week to end the disengagement plan and to come to its senses. “Like many, Netanyahu believes giving up land without concessions is a demonstration that terrorism pays and that Israel’s national security will be forever threatened. Certainly, Israel’s military understands the significance of Netanyahu’s concerns. Middle East News Line reports that Israel’s military has revised its withdrawal plan to account for a scenario under which the eviction of Jewish residents from the Gaza Strip would be completed amid massive Palestinian fire and heavy Israeli casualties. Netanyahu called disengagement an “evil” and urged Members of the Knesset to stop it. He said he has warned the Sharon government that the Palestinians will only use the Gaza land to establish a terrorist base of operations and that the nation of Israel’s defense and security may be undermined by disengagement.” A Palestinian state living side by side in peace with Israel is a pipe dream—and a deadly one at that. Gaza was the Palestinian state experiment. From the moment Sharon removed by force Jews from Gaza under constant gunfire from “Palestinians,” violence, missiles, terrorist attacks were commonplace every day. Every day. At the time, Netanyahu said, “The government is advancing in total blindness. They have eyes but don’t see. They have ears but don’t hear.” Today, the world is once again demanding Israel give in to the terrorists in the name of humanitarianism, another gesture for peace. As Christ asked in Mark 8:18, “Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear?’ And do you not remember?” I guess not. It is today as it was then. Thousands of people were coming to faith in Christ. Miracles were being performed. And along came a husband and wife named Ananias and Sapphira. They apparently had some means, and they sold a piece of land and announced they were giving the proceeds to the church. But they kept some of the money for themselves and didn’t tell anyone about it. Peter, however, knew the truth. And he confronted Ananias about it. He said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!” (Acts 5:3–4 NLT). Then Ananias died on the spot. A little while later, Sapphira came in and told Peter the same story. As a result, she died, too. Now, this might seem like harsh judgment on God’s part. It might seem a little radical. But they were lying to the Holy Spirit. They were pretending to be something they were not. Instead, they should have just been honest before God and told the truth. They were actors putting on a show. And they wanted people to think they were more thoroughly devoted to God than they were. Sometimes, people say they wish the church could see more miracles today like the church saw in the Book of Acts. But do we really want all the miracles? If, like Ananias and Sapphira, everyone in the church who was living a lie died on the spot, then every church would need a full-time undertaker. A classic example of an actor is Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed the Lord. Worse yet, he did it with a kiss. A handshake or a tap on the shoulder could have done the job. But instead, he told the temple police, “You will know which one to arrest when I greet him with a kiss” (Matthew 26:48 NLT). The original language implies that when Judas kissed Jesus, it wasn’t just one peck. Rather, Judas kissed Him repeatedly. In contrast, as Judas was about to betray Him, Jesus said, “My friend, go ahead and do what you have come for” (verse 50 NLT). It was a gesture of love, compassion, and even forgiveness. Even so, Judas chose to betray Him. The entertainment industry has award ceremonies for the best actor, the best musical artist, and so forth. Perhaps the church could have the Judas award for the best performance by a nonbeliever playing the role of a Christian. The performance may deceive a lot of people, but it isn’t deceiving God. You can fool all the people some of the time. You can fool some of the people all the time. But you can’t fool God any time.
