2024 presents Israel’s 76th birthday since its rebirth as a nation in 1948; Following Yom HaZikaron (Memorial Day), the atmosphere will turn from mourning to joy as people throughout the Jewish State begin the celebration of Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Independence Day). Sundown on Monday will mark the beginning of Yom Ha’Atzmaut when mourning will turn to joy as Israelis celebrate what they’ve held so dearly for 76 years now – Divinely-appointed independence foretold 2,500 years ago. Isaiah 66:8 KJV – “Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.” After dedicating the solemn day of Yom HaZikaron to remember those who have gone before them, Israelis will celebrate their 76th year of independence as a nation on Yom Ha’Atzmaut. Independence Day was strategically placed after Memorial Day in recognition of the reality that without the brave sacrifice of so many Jewish men and women in Israel’s history, there would be no independence. 1948 marked the rebirth of the nation of Israel when the Jewish people declared independence in their homeland in the aftermath of World War II. Their independence was made official on May 14, 1948, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Tel Aviv. However, Yom Ha’Atzmaut is not recognized annually on that date, but rather, it is celebrated on the third of Iyar on the Jewish calendar. It was only a matter of hours before five different Arab nations acted on a mutual interest of eradicating the name of Israel from the face of the earth after the nation was born on May 14, 1948. Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon all attacked the Jewish State the very next day, which is known as the Arab-Israeli war of 1948. God’s hand in the deliverance and survival of the Jewish people is a story like no other. Miracle after miracle took place, whether it be the Lord instilling fear in the heart of their enemies or His miraculous intervention when soldiers were in a seemingly irredeemable situation. Psalm 83:3-4 KJV – “They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.” Tragically, this same evil spirit is alive and well today. Independence Day will be observed in the midst of political and wartime turmoil following the October 7, 2023, massacre, which was carried out by Hamas terrorists from the Gaza Strip. On the morning of October 7, numerous terrorists infiltrated the country determined to kidnap, rape, and slaughter as many Jews as possible. Sadly, they were successful, as over 1,200 innocent Jews – men, women, elderly, and children – suffered the very fate(s) previously listed. It goes without saying that the heartbeat of this year’s Independence Day is going to be different than that of previous years, especially given the reality that the Israel-Hamas War remains ongoing. From Holocaust survivors to a radiant, thriving nation, Israel now has one of the leading economies and militaries in the world. Israel’s population today is over 9 million people. The World's Upside-Down Response to Oct. 7 Gets Worse with Each Passing Week – Tyler O’Neil - https://www.prophecynewswatch.com/article.cfm?recent_news_id=6898 Welcome to 2024, the year where each week brings a new batch of fresh insanity, especially on Israel. While Donald Trump, the former president and presumptive Republican nominee in the upcoming presidential election, sits in the dock and unprecedented numbers of illegal aliens flood across our borders, elites are turning on Jews and demonizing Israel, apparently forgetting that the Jewish state is merely responding to the worst pogrom since the Holocaust. A brief refresher, since the world apparently needs reminding: On Oct. 7, 2023, members of the terrorist group Hamas invaded Israel from the Gaza Strip and began slaughtering innocent civilians. They killed 1,139 and took another 200 or so hostage. More than 30 of the victims were U.S. citizens. The Hamas terrorists attacked a music festival, targeting young women. They raped these women to death and paraded their naked bodies. They killed babies. They called their parents to brag about slaughtering Jews. Iran, which funds Hamas, reportedly had a role in the terrorist attacks. Other proxies of Iran's Islamist regime have also taken action against Israel and the U.S. in the wake of Oct. 7, and Iran directly attacked Israel last month. Israel responded to Oct. 7 by formally acknowledging the war that Hamas had already declared through its vile invasion. The Jewish state made known its intention to wipe out Hamas' military capabilities in order to prevent another pogrom. Hamas, for its part, declared the terrorist attack a victory and promised it would carry out similar terrorist attacks. While Hamas has freed some hostages in cease-fire deals, it remains a threat to Israel. This week, Israel closed in on some of the last Hamas holdouts in the adjacent Gaza Strip, which is governed by the terrorist organization. The Jewish state's prosecution of the war has not been perfect, but Israel Defense Forces worked hard to minimize civilian casualties, warning about strikes before they take place and urging evacuations of cities before invading. In any morally sane world, people should celebrate Israel's pending victory in a clear war of self-defense. Instead, we are treated to a carnival of topsyturveydom. Biden's Quid Pro Quo Moment On Wednesday, the day after he commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day, President Joe Biden threatened to withdraw aid to Israel if the Jewish state started its military operation in the Gazan city of Rafah. Although Biden had occasionally called earlier for pauses in the fighting, this represented the first time he threatened to remove aid to Israel, and the threat came shortly after Congress had approved more military aid to both Ukraine and Israel. Biden had said of Israel after the Hamas terrorist massacre on Oct. 7: "We will not ever fail to have their back." The day before Biden threatened to withdraw aid to Israel, his administration issued a sanctions waiver to enable arms sales to Qatar (where some Hamas leaders reside) and Lebanon, where Iran's proxy Hezbollah, another terrorist group, enjoys broad sway over the military. House Republicans filed articles of impeachment Friday, citing House Democrats' 2019 impeachment of then-President Donald Trump. The House voted to impeach Trump over a phone call in which he appeared to tell Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he would hold back military aid unless Zelenskyy investigated corruption related to Biden's son, Hunter. Some Democrats, notably Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, have spoken out against Biden's move against Israel. Hate in the Schools Meanwhile, antisemitism is rearing its ugly head, not just on college and university campuses, but in K-12 classrooms. House Republicans pressed the leaders of three major school districts on their responses to the growing harassment of Jews after Oct. 7. Students at Berkeley Unified School District in California reportedly heard other students say, "Kill the Jews." Some asked Jewish students what "their number is," referring to the numbers tattooed on Jews in death camps during the Holocaust. The Anti-Defamation League argued that the school district failed to curtail the hostile environment. When pressed Wednesday on the issue, School Superintendent Enikia Ford Morthel essentially just said, "Trust me, we're dealing with it." In doing so, she appeared to infantilize her K-12 students. "You can be confident that I am there in my schools every day, in the schools, in the classrooms, with the babies," Ford Morthel said. The Berkeley school superintendent later defended a curriculum that taught students a positive spin on the chant "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." That slogan, the official motto of Hamas, calls for eradicating the Jews from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, thus "freeing" the land now known as Israel from non-Palestinian influence. Berkeley's curriculum stated: "For some Palestinians, 'From the river to the sea' is a call for freedom and peace." Rewarding Palestine After Oct. 7 On Friday, the representatives of 143 countries that belong to the United Nations voted to declare the Palestinian Authority "peace-loving" and to extend certain rights and privileges to the so-called state of Palestine in the U.N. The resolution expresses "deep regret and concern" that the U.S. voted against admitting the Palestinian Authority into the U.N. in April. As Brett Schaefer, a Heritage Foundation research fellow, explained, the Palestinian territories lack key characteristics of statehood and both the extremist organizations that rule the West Bank and Gaza reward and encourage terrorism against civilians. The U.N. resolution also opens an interesting can of worms because U.S. law forbids funding to U.N. bodies that give the Palestine Liberation Organization (the political party that controls the Palestinian Authority) the same standing as member states. Although only the Palestinian Authority represents "Palestine" in the U.N., this attempt to induct "Palestine" into the global body seems a reward for terrorism and an intentional rebuke to Israel's attempt to defend itself from that terrorism. Gilad Erdan, Israel's ambassador to the U.N., shredded a copy of the U.N. Charter to demonstrate how the resolution undermines it. In what world does it make sense for the president of the United States, 143 countries in the United Nations, and American schoolchildren to take the side of proven terrorists against the country trying to defend itself against those terrorists? Again, Isaiah the prophet said the following: The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. (Isaiah 17:1) Every day, news of military action and diplomatic maneuverings comes from Syria, the oldest occupied city of recorded history. It is the city on the road to which Saul of Tarsus had his life-changing encounter with the ascended Jesus Christ. The location is steeped in biblically prophetic importance. One recent news item demonstrates the significance of Damascus in the ongoing Middle East machinations that are leading to Armageddon and Christ’s Second Advent. Israeli aircraft have reportedly attacked a location on the outskirts of the Syrian capital of Damascus late Thursday (local), a security source told Reuters. Widely circulating images have emerged on social media showing plumes of smoke rising high over buildings which were struck. Syrian state media subsequently said that eight army soldiers were injured in the attack. The fresh Israeli aggression could be another targeted assassination operation against Iranian generals or IRGC officers, and certainly would also be intended to signal Israel remains undeterred by Iran’s April 13th attack, which was in retaliation for the prior Israeli attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus… This new attack demonstrates also that Iran-Israel tensions which last month nearly led to a major regional war are not over. (“Israeli Warplanes Strike Damascus as Iran Tensions Still on Edge,” Tyler Durden, ZeroHedge, May 2, 2024) To write that the tensions that nearly led to war are not over is a profound understatement when thinking in terms of Bible prophecy. Damascus has become central in those tensions as the stage is being set for the Gog-Magog war of Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39. Bible prophecy watchers, including the great scholars, have most often thought the destruction of this ancient city in its modern form will be nuclear in nature. This makes sense to those who observe from the view of biblical prophecy, because it indicates the city will not be habitable again. I have held to this understanding that the destruction of Damascus will be due to a nuclear weapon of some sort being used. This brings me to the “alternative thoughts” mentioned in the title of this commentary. A long-time fellow watchman on the wall who is a frequent visitor to Raptureready.com emailed this past week his alternative view of the Isaiah 17:1 prophecy. I find it compelling, thus will share it with you here in its entirety. Dear Terry James, I do very much enjoy the rich bounty of articles you provide, yet I feel compelled to address a common error being touted by several scholars in regards to the destruction of Damascus. Many scholars today have speculated that the destruction of Damascus as a ruinous heap will be the result of an Israeli nuclear weapon. For a city the size of Damascus that would make sense in committing such devastation in a short period of time. The problem with such speculation, however, is verse 2 of Isaiah 17: “The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.” It is assured that flocks will not graze on soil contaminated with nuclear radiation. When examining this prophecy in full, we can also identify that it is the hand of God that brings Damascus to a ruinous heap for His glory: “At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel” (Isaiah 17:7). In addition, we see within the context of this prophecy the presence of a confederation that is rebuked by the hand of God in verses 12–14 of Isaiah 17. I often wondered, who is the “he” of Isaiah 17:14? “And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.” It is, therefore, my personal opinion that this “he” is Gog of Ezekiel 38–39. We know from examining the prophecy of Gog/Magog that it is the hand of God that gathers this mighty confederation from the north against Israel for His glory. It is clear as prophesied Gog/Magog comes from the north against the borders of Israel; there is little doubt that they will assemble in southern Syria along the Golan frontier. In Ezekiel 39:5, we are informed that this confederation will fall upon the open field or plain. In southern Syria, there is a vast plain known as the Plain of Hauran adjacent to Damascus and the Golan Heights. This fertile plain also happens to be a volcanic plateau with many dormant volcanic cones. Interesting, when we consider the fire and brimstone brought upon this confederation by the hand of God as detailed in Ezekiel 38:22. One of the key elements scholars miss today is the great earthquake of Ezekiel 38:19, 20 that shakes the land of Israel. It is my belief that this great earthquake’s epicenter will be directed against the main contingent of the Gog/Magog confederation assembled in southern Syria. I further believe it is this great earthquake that brings Damascus and surrounding cities to a ruinous heap in fulfillment of Isaiah 17:1. In conclusion, I will say that there is little doubt that the “he” of Isaiah 17:14 is none other than “Gog” of Ezekiel 38:2. And that day of Isaiah 17:7 is the same day of Ezekiel 39:8, 13. Recognizing the stage-setting for the Damascus prophecy fulfillment, to those who obey Christ’s command to “watch” (Mark 13: 37), means they are looking for “the blessed hope” (Titus 2:13). Again, Jesus said: And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. It is more mocking. The flyer asks if folks have met “End-Times Eddie” in the church. It denigrates “Eddie” and suggests he is so focused on end-times that he has missed all the present opportunities and people in front of him. “Eddie” is gloom and doom. Why isn’t he looking for Jesus to bring Heaven to earth right now? Then, the flyer suggests some questions for the church’s small groups. Here are a few samples:
Two things stand out to me: 1) Here is just one more church preaching, “Come, Lord Jesus, but not too soon.” 2) They have embraced the false teaching promoted heavily by the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) that we can have Heaven on earth now. This is called Kingdom Now or Dominion Theology. Show me just one square mile of this planet that can demonstrate a Garden of Eden-like Heaven on earth. You will find only chaos. And the church trying to perfect the world for the next one million years won’t fix it. Those of us who have promoted the important message that the King is coming are painfully aware that young believers no longer uphold Bible prophecy as a key component of the faith. They would rather focus on social justice, the green agenda, and Christian Palestinianism. When I was a teenager in my church, we had regular prophecy conferences and I never once heard that Israel was “occupying” her God-given country. I never would have heard the denigrating title of “End-Times Eddie.” I was never taught that we had to “save the planet” because I learned that it was hopelessly lost until Christ’s return. I was never given the delusional teaching that in time my church would be able to “save the planet” by seizing the Genesis mandate of dominion — which is about dominion over animals and not mankind. Kingdom Now or Dominion Theology tries to humanize God and deify man. Sadly, the world will continue to deteriorate and spiral into chaos, forcing man to consider the hope of Heaven and abandon thoughts of a glorified earth. Only when Jesus Christ returns at the Second Coming will all things be made new! Dominionist proponent Cindy Jacobs suggests that God showed her that the Lord’s Prayer is a prayer of intercession that will help bring into manifestation the original Genesis Mandate to fill, subdue, multiply, and have dominion in the earth. Cindy, sin didn’t come into the world because we didn’t understand our mandate! As I wrote in a previous article exposing the theology of Dominionism, “The church is not in the business of taking anything away from Satan but the souls of men. The world is a sinking Titanic ripe for judgment, not Garden of Eden perfection. Jesus will take dominion of the cleansed earth. For men to speak of doing that before the judgment of this earth is spiritually arrogant.” Yet “End-Times Eddie” is the one with unsound theology according to the Washington church, not those preaching this unsound theology that the church can perfect the world. One of my conference attendees wrote me in 2014. He had been tagged an “End-Times Eddie.” He writes, “I no longer feel safe talking about the issues you deal with in your ministry. I am scorned and ridiculed by friends, family, and co-workers if I talk about the Lord’s imminent return or any headline that is prominent. To suggest that life as we know it may end soon is simply the ultimate in lunacy to all of these folks. I feel so alone.” I so agree with Pastor David Barnhart in his magazine, The Vine and Branches, “For most Christians, the major strategy in dealing with the doctrine of Christ’s return is to ignore it. For others, the solution is to opt for some kind of socialist utopia here on earth and call it the ‘kingdom of God.’” He continues, “There is no more important doctrine than the coming again of Jesus Christ. By His coming, Jesus will bring God’s promise of redemption into complete and total fulfillment. We’ll no longer just talk of streets of gold, we’ll walk on them. We will no longer simply talk about Jesus, we’ll talk with Him face to face and His own hand will gently wipe every tear from our eye. We’ll not only talk about seeing our loved ones who have gone on before, we’ll be together with them for eternity without ever again experiencing a single moment of separation.” Barnhart says, “God’s prophetic clock is counting down to the appointed hour. If you don’t believe it, listen to the latest news reports or read the paper. Scriptures are replete with signs, prophecies and promises of Christ’s return. The signs are everywhere, yet the silence of the churches is deafening when it comes to proclaiming this vital truth of Scripture. Slumbering preachers and sleeping saints need to wake up to the reality that the King is coming and His coming may be sooner than any of us realize. “In the meantime, millions are perishing without the knowledge of the gospel or the hope of His coming offers. How it must grieve the heart of God to look at a sleeping church in a hell-bound world.” Bible prophecy is given as a light shining in a dark place (2 Peter 1:19). Talking about it should not instill fear in the Christian; rather, provide confirmation that the “blessed hope” is ever nearer and the time ever shorter to snatch people from the fire. There are many “End-Time Eddies” around. May their numbers increase. May our pulpits grow bolder and talk about things that really matter. Our message is hardly doom and gloom. It may be about the only good news left. The supposed ‘good news’ that we’re taking the planet back to the Garden of Eden isn’t the truth — it’s end-time delusion. I’m honored to be among the “End-Times Eddie” crowd. I’ve got the best news there is. This world isn’t it. God believed the topic of eschatology was so important that He devoted one book exclusively to it: Revelation. Almost 30% of the Bible is prophecy-focused. This message, when coupled with warnings, encourages evangelism and repentance like no other. Daily Jot: They accuse others of what they are doing - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) accused supporters of Donald Trump of “training up in the hills” for a civil war if Trump does not get elected to office. On May 5th’s MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show,” Waters called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Joe Biden to investigate “all of those right-wing organizations that he [Trump] is connected with who are training up in the hills somewhere and targeting, you know what communities they are going to attack.” She wants to know how Biden and DOJ will “protect this country against violence” if Trump loses. You can bet Waters is signaling that the Democrats have people in training to stand against those who disagree with them. In fact, they are already activated. Let’s look at the pro-terrorist demonstrations at university campuses across the country. These are not only filled with hate speech against Jews and Israel, they are also burning the American flag, chanting “Death to America” and raising the terrorist Palestinian flag above the US Flag. All the while, Democrats are saying they are proud of these students for standing up for their beliefs. Interesting that conservatives and Christians are accused of violent behavior, when in fact, it is the leftists supported by Democratic Party fundraisers who are raising the sword of violence across the country. Waters is among the kennel chiefs blowing the dog whistle calling these anti-American, pro-terrorist, Jew haters to action. Portland is a good example where in August 2018 Associated Press covered a violent Antifa and Black Lives Matter protest. The Antifa crowd was ordered to disperse, but instead became aggressive, prompting a police riot response. The police were then accused by Portland’s mayor of using excessive force. The slant of the AP story was decidedly pro-Antifa, painting the Marxist anarchists as American patriots, disguising its bias by quoting SPLC, ACLU, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and Democratic Socialists of America. Fast forward to the present where in Portland, pro-terrorist demonstrators took responsibility for burning police cars and encouraging more violence in the city. Portland, like many other cities, has a built-in civil war department funded by leftists and manned by Antifa, a self-proclaimed body of communists and anarchists who work in collaboration with Obama’s Organization for America—a George Soros funded entity. So when Maxine Waters and other prominent democrats accuse those who disagree with them of fomenting violence, they are accusing others of what they are doing. And the media lets them get away with it. Isaiah 59:13-14 may aptly describe the entirety of this situation, “In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. He sent each of them a telegram that read, “Flee at once—all is discovered.” Twain said they all left town immediately. Now, that is what you call having a guilty conscience. The conscience is a bit like an alarm. We have car alarms that no one seems to listen to anymore, except when they need to find their car in a parking structure. We also have alarms in our homes. This includes the smoke detectors with batteries that always go bad in the middle of the night. At that point, the only way to stop a detector from chirping is to replace the battery. The temptation, however, is to disable the alarm because we don’t want to listen to it chirp. The same is true with a conscience. We sometimes will try to ignore it or disable it. However, if your conscience is working and it reminds you that something you have said or done is wrong, then that is a good thing. It is what we all want. We want a conscience that is tender, a conscience that works properly. We don’t want to try to disable it. And we certainly don’t want to dull it. The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy and warned him about people who would fall away in the last days: “These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead” (1 Timothy 4:2 NLT). God has given everyone a conscience, both believers and nonbelievers. We were born that way. Romans 2:14 points out, “Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it” (NLT). However, our consciences are not infallible. In other words, there are times when our consciences might condemn us for something that actually isn’t wrong. The Bible tells us in 1 John 3:20 that “even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything” (NLT). Therefore, what we need to do is teach our consciences how to function properly. We want to effectively educate our consciences so they will do what they’re supposed to do as designed by God. We all have our moments when we need to make tough decisions, when we experience a crisis of conscience. Some politicians haven’t made a single decision based on principle for years. Instead, they’ve stood only for whatever will keep them in office. We need fewer politicians and more statesmen today. It has been said that a statesman sees the next generation while a politician sees the next election. We see the same thing happen in the business world.
