For the people of Gaza, the present war is a total disaster. But for top-level leaders of Hamas, it is going extremely well. While their people suffer, the highest-ranking Hamas leaders sit in luxurious accommodations, far from the violence in Gaza. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas, has been living in Qatar since 2016. He hasn’t set foot in Gaza since 2019. Yet from Gaza, he has accumulated a net worth of $4 billion. Take a second to let that sink in. The terrorist leader of Hamas is a billionaire four times over. How did he accumulate such wealth? He leads some of the poorest people in the world. Other nations, including the United States, see the Gazan’s great need, and they send money. Hamas leaders use that money to strengthen their military infrastructure, and to line their own pockets. Hamas is not only a terrorist organization, but a gang of thieves. They lead one of the most corrupt governments the world has ever known. Why would the people of Gaza put up with this? For the most part, they don’t know the magnitude of the help that comes to them from around the world. When Hamas doles out a little of that help, their fellow Gazans see it as generous. But the biggest reason Hamas stays in power is that the people of Gaza have been taught from early childhood not to blame their suffering on the Hamas leaders who are causing it. They blame it on Israel. The fascinating thing is that the facts I’ve laid out here, such as Haniyeh’s wealth, are well-known around the world. But the global media shows a bizarre reluctance to tell the real story. They, too, blame Israel. I think it comes from humanity’s ancient prejudice against Jews. We think of Hamas as backward, yet they are winning the public opinion war in a big way. Their vicious attack on Israeli civilians resulted in massive gains. In just the last few days, Ireland, Spain, and Norway all recognized a Palestinian state. Their actions are largely symbolic, but it strengthens Hamas’s hand. Everyone knows it happened as a direct result of October 7th. In Gaza, Hamas soldiers have died in large numbers, but the leadership abroad remains intact. Despite their losses, Palestinians in Gaza, Judea, and Samaria see Hamas as effective leaders, able to turn the world against Israel. In that way, campus protestors in America, the nations of Ireland, Spain, and Norway, the United Nations, and even actions by the US government, have prolonged the war and increased Hamas power over all Palestinians. Hamas could have a ceasefire at any time, but its leaders are not suffering. Hamas leaders want high casualty counts among Palestinian civilians. They want scenes of suffering. While Israel does its best not to harm civilians, they must go into hostile territory to defeat the enemy and free the hostages. Meanwhile, the world works against them. Israel has given Hamas generous terms at the negotiating table, but Hamas leaders do not yet want peace. Published reports say that in April even the leaders of Qatar had had their fill. They became so angry at Hamas leader Haniyeh for his unyieldingness regarding the hostages that they kicked him out of the country. He moved to Turkey, but Qatari leaders soon relented and brought him back to Qatar. It’s interesting that Qatar became disgusted with the very behavior that Ireland, Spain, and Norway have decided to reward. How should Christians respond? Remember that all this was foretold by the prophets, and it leads to something wonderful — the return of Jesus. So, stay faithful. Continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Draw especially close to the Lord and His Word in this hour. Spread the good news of God’s amazing salvation. The penultimate verse in the Bible contains a prayer that seems especially appropriate in times like these — “Come, Lord Jesus.” Willing Ignorance in Government - By Daymond Duck - https://www.raptureready.com/2024/05/25/willing-ignorance-in-government-by-daymond-duck/ Concerning the death of too many Palestinians in Gaza, on May 15, 2024, Israel released video (taken by an Israeli drone) of a Hamas terrorist at a United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) humanitarian aid warehouse in Rafah shooting at Palestinian civilians. In addition to the video of the Hamas terrorist shooting at Palestinians, other armed Hamas terrorists were videoed inside the UNRWA compound. Israel Katz (Israel’s Foreign Minister) said no lie from António Guterres, UN secretary-general, and Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner general of UNRWA, will hide the truth: “UNRWA is an arm of the terrorist organization Hamas. Lazzarini must resign!” (My Opinion: UN officials make themselves willingly ignorant of UNRWA ties to Hamas.) (More: The idea that the land from the river to the sea is Palestinian land is another lie, and the UN knows it. History, archaeology, and the Bible confirm that it has been part of Israel for thousands of years. There has never been a nation called Palestine, and the UN knows it, but it is willingly ignorant of this fact.) (More: In early May, the UN started reporting a significantly lower death toll of Palestinians in Gaza. The revised UN number is almost half the original UN number because the UN was reporting what Hamas was saying without verifying it. The near 50% drop is alarming, and the UN is scrambling to explain it away.) (More: Pres. Biden was going by the fake Hamas numbers when he delayed the shipment of bombs and weapons to Israel. Many Jews in the U.S. are shocked, and some are beginning to shift their campaign contributions from the Democrats to the Republicans. Also, some large Jewish contributors have notified some Universities that they are reconsidering their contributions to them. But think about it: Biden says Israel must be more precise in its bombing raids, so the bombs he is withholding from Israel are precision-guided bombs. He is making himself willingly ignorant of the threat Hamas poses to Israel to placate Muslim voters in the U.S.) (FYI: On May 16, the U.S. House of Representatives easily passed a bi-partisan bill that compels the Biden administration to ship the precision-guided bombs and weapons to Israel quickly. The bill is not expected to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate, but Biden said he will veto it if it does. The fake death toll has impacted the White House and Senate.) (My opinion: It is not surprising that people who can’t tell the difference between a man and a woman don’t tell the truth. Willing ignorance is a sign of the end of the age; II Pet. 3:1-9.) Here are recent stories that seem to indicate that the end of the age is near. One, concerning the prosecution of Israel for genocide: on May 17, 2024, a veteran war crimes prosecutor with 38 years of experience said:
(My opinion: If this so-called expert on international law is right, every nation that signed the Genocide Convention – and most have – is obligated to prevent Hamas from destroying Israel, but they seem to be making themselves willingly ignorant of their obligation.) Two, concerning hatred for Israel and efforts to undermine the Israeli government: the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor has requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Min. Netanyahu, his defense minister, and 3 leaders of Hamas (Yahya Sinwar, Ishmail Haniyeh, and Mohammed Al-Masri.) The ICC prosecutor may get the warrants, and he may not, but he has no authority to enter Israel to arrest anyone. In a letter to Netanyahu on Apr. 25, 2024, Israel’s Finance Min. said:
He also threatened to cease all money transfers to the PA should an arrest warrant be issued for any Israeli civilian or soldier or if the UN recognizes a Palestinian state. He added that this includes sanctioning any Israeli bank that transfers funds to the PA. If arrest warrants are issued for Netanyahu and Israel’s defense min., look for Israel to retaliate. Three, concerning Pres. Biden’s efforts to undermine Israel in Gaza: on May 17, 2024, it was reported that 157 leaders of Christian groups in the U.S. have sent a letter to Biden expressing their disappointment in him and warning that his actions are encouraging enemies of the United States and Israel. Four, concerning hatred for Israel at the end of the age: on May 16, 2024, it was reported that the LA County Board of Supervisors passed a bill to pay for attorneys and resources to defend pro-Palestinian protestors at UCLA. Taxpayers will have to pay the legal fees and other costs of dozens of people who promoted an established lie. Five, concerning the coming global economic collapse: on May 15, 2024, Harold Turner (Hal Turner Radio Show) reported that Cuba’s economy has collapsed, customers bank accounts are empty, ATMs are empty, bank vaults are empty, all the money has been removed from all the banks, and citizens are rioting. This won’t cause a global economic collapse, but it is a good indicator of what might happen in other countries when leaders decide to switch to a digital currency system. Turner recommends that citizens not have all their money in banks. If it happened in Cuba, it could happen in other countries. (More: on May 16, 2024, Hal Turner reported that China, normally a major holder of U.S. debt, has reduced its holdings by $53.3 billion in the first quarter of 2024.) Six, while Pres. Biden was trying to force the Two-State Solution on Israel, on May 16, 2024, severe winds (80-117 mph) tore through Texas, toppled powerlines, toppled trees, broke windows, and left about one million people without electricity. Seven people were killed, and there was major destruction in downtown Houston. (More: on May 19, 2024, 100 mph winds and baseball-size hail hit Kansas; there was damage for 400 miles, and the electricity went out in tens of thousands of homes.) (More: on May 20, 2024, an unusually intense hailstorm with hail stones the size of a softball hit the town of Yuma, Colorado.) (More: on May 21, 2024, portions of Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Illinois were warned that they could face fierce winds, damaging hail, and possibly tornadoes. Update: In Iowa, 3 people were killed, dozens were injured, and there was major destruction.) Seven, concerning wars and rumors of wars at the end of the age: on May 17, 2024, a Russian diplomat said the U.S. has entered a state of indirect war with Russia through its actions in Ukraine. Eight, concerning world government: on May 17, 2024, it was reported that the World Economic Forum (WEF) is urging governments to require families that own more than one vehicle to give up one of them to save the planet from climate change. The WEF still wants to force citizens to drive electric vehicles, but they want to go a step farther by limiting how many vehicles a family can own. (More: On May 19, 2024, it was reported that the UN is pushing digital ID programs to track people during climate disasters, citizens’ energy usage, vaccinations, lock bank accounts, collect carbon taxes, and inspire behavioral changes.) (More: On May 21, 2024, Klaus Schwab notified his staff that he is resigning as Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, and he will become the chairman of the Board of Trustees on Jan. 1, 2025.) Nine, concerning the ashes of a red heifer: on May 20, 2024, I saw a report that said 3 of the 5 red heifers that were moved from Texas to Israel have been disqualified, but the report said they will be bred by artificial insemination in the coming weeks to produce more animals without blemish. The article didn’t say, but I assume Israel still has 2 red heifers that qualify for sacrifice, and 1 is all they need. Here is my daily update on the Israel-Hamas war. Without that installation, there is a giant hole in Russia’s ability to track incoming missiles from the direction of the Middle East. So this is a really big deal. During an all-out nuclear war, early warning radar installations would be among the very first targets, and the Russians are telling us that according to their nuclear protocols the destruction of the Armavir Radar Station could have allowed them to conduct a nuclear strike in return. Thankfully, that did not happen. But this should have been front page news all over the world. It is being reported that the Armavir Radar Station in southwestern Russia was “substantially damaged” by Ukrainian drones on Thursday… Satellite imagery confirms a Russian strategic early warning radar site in the southwestern end of the country was substantially damaged in a reported Ukrainian drone attack earlier this week. This looks to be a first-of-its-kind attack on a site linked to Russia’s general strategic defense. As such, it points to a new and worrisome dimension to the conflict, especially when it comes to the potential use of nuclear weapons. A satellite image taken on May 23 that The War Zone obtained from Planet Labs of the Armavir Radar Station in Russia’s southwestern Krasnodar Krai shows significant debris around one of the site’s two Voronezh-DM radar buildings. These are ultra-high-frequency (UHF) over-the-horizon (OTH) radars that are part of Russia’s nuclear ballistic missile early warning system. There were two Voronezh-DM units at that particular location, and it appears that both of them are now inoperable, and it is likely to stay that way for quite some time… What can be seen in the satellite image aligns with pictures taken from ground level that emerged on social media earlier today, which show severe damage to both structures housing the Voronezh-DMs at Armavir. There is also clear evidence of multiple hits on the radar buildings. It is worth noting that radar arrays are generally very sensitive and fragile systems, and even relatively limited damage can result in a “mission kill,” rendering them inoperable for an extended period of time. The Armavir Radar Station is highly advanced, and in 2013 Russian President Vladimir Putin bragged that it could detect “even the most inconspicuous target in fractions of a second, detecting launches of various types of missiles, hundreds and even thousands of kilometers from our borders”. If someone hit an early warning radar installation in the U.S., all of our military officials would be really freaking out right now. But because this happened in Russia, everyone is acting as if nothing of significance just happened. Of course the truth is that the Ukrainians were very foolish to attack this facility, because we are being told that this attack was enough to “meet the conditions the Russian government laid out publicly in 2020 for actions that could trigger a nuclear retaliatory strike”… The two Voronezh-DMs at the facility are a key part of Russia’s larger strategic early warning network and their loss, even temporarily, could only degrade the country’s ability to detect incoming nuclear threats. There are also concerns about how this could impact the ability of Russia’s overall strategic warning network to evaluate potential threats and eliminate false positives due to possible loss of overlapping coverage in certain areas. Beyond that, it has been pointed out that the attack on Armavir could meet the conditions the Russian government laid out publicly in 2020 for actions that could trigger a nuclear retaliatory strike. Russia’s early warning network is part of the country’s broader nuclear deterrent posture. In fact, Dmitry Rogozin is publicly acknowledging that it is quite true that the Russians could have used nuclear weapons to respond to this attack… The former head of the state company Roscosmos and now a senator of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Rogozin, reported that the Ukrainian Forces attacked an installation of the Russian Missile Attack Warning System (MSWS) in the Krasnodar Territory. This is a key element of the Battle Command System of the country’s strategic nuclear forces. The senator reports that as a result of the strike, the Kuban early warning system facility was damaged. “In effect, this means that Russia has the right to consider this attack as a global threat to its state and national security, which, according to our doctrine, allows(!) the use of nuclear weapons(!) in response . At the same time, it is not entirely clear who made this essentially irrational decision,” writes Rogozin. I wish that I could get everyone to understand how serious this is. Here in the United States, the possibility of nuclear war isn’t even an issue and to most Americans it is so unlikely that it isn’t even worth thinking about. But over in Russia, national leaders are talking about nuclear war all the time and it is a constant topic on news shows. If the Russians consider their national existence to be seriously threatened, they will use nuclear weapons. And it certainly does not help that western politicians keep talking about how they will carve up Russia after they help the Ukrainians win the war. Here is one of the latest examples… Last week, Russian media took note of the latest provocative statements by Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas. She has led Russia’s tiny Baltic neighbor into a firm hawkish anti-Moscow position. The country was part of the wave of eastern European nations to join NATO in the mid-2000s during the Bush era. She’s calling for the breakup of the Russian Federation. Kallas proposed during a debate in the country’s capital of Tallinn last week that Russia could become much “smaller” as a desired outcome of the Ukraine war. “Russia’s defeat is not a bad thing because then you know there could really be a change in society,” the prime minister told the 17th Lennart Meri Conference, as translated in Russia’s RT. She said that currently the Russian Federation can actually be seen as making up “many different nations” and that they could be naturally broken into separate states. This is what the globalists intend to do, and the Russians realize this. And the Russians will do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening. Meanwhile, it appears that a major conflict between the United States and China is getting closer. According to the Daily Mail, the U.S. military is actively “preparing to go to war with China” right now… The United States military is actively preparing to go to war with China over growing fears of an invasion of Taiwan. Marines from the US and the Philippines have been carrying out ominous war games on small islands a short distance from Taiwan, reports the Wall Street Journal. The exercises include deploying teams of marines from Chinook helicopters, readying unarmed assault rifles, and scoping out terrain that would hypothetically be used if conflict erupted. Sadly, most of us in the western world have no idea what is really going on out there. Most of us are just having a good old time as our leaders drag us toward the brink of disaster. When the time finally arrives, destruction will come upon millions of people very suddenly. If we want to avoid war, the time to do so is now. Because once the missiles start flying, it will be way too late. About Enduring unto the End – Terry James - https://terryjamesprophecyline.com/2024/05/26/about-enduring-unto-the-end/ I’ve been thinking yet again on my heartbeat flat-lining on Good Friday April 22, 2011, and going somewhere on the periphery of Heaven. Again, reflecting on the many hospital pages that documented my heart stopping (I clinically died three times and was brought back with the defibrillation paddles) was a reminder, in large part, about two things. One, it affirmed that the pre-Trib Rapture is the true biblical view and Jesus is on the very cusp of calling His people–the Church—into Glory. Two, it emphasized how important it is for all believers in Christ to finish the race set before us. What I saw was just what we read in Hebrews chapter 12: the cloud of witnesses were accompanying me as we ran toward the very throne of God. It was a victory lap, and we were headed toward Heaven’s finish line! (That’s the title of a book I hope to write soon.) Obviously I haven’t finished that race, because here I sit telling you about my experience yet again. I know in the deepest reaches of my soul that what I saw on that day in 2011 was meant to encourage me to “keep on keeping on” in the assignment I’ve been given. We believers must all “endure unto the end.” “Fatigue makes cowards of us all,” said Vince Lombardi, the famous Green Bay Packer coach of the 1960s known for his draconian training regimen in preparing his players. He put his observation into practice against his opponents by making sure it was the opponents, not his team members, who became fatigued. Each Packer player was totally spent at the end of each practice session, having left all he had on the field. When strength was returned and fully pumped up on game day, there was more than enough to overpower those not as intensively conditioned. The result was a championship team that continues to be memorialized in sports lore all these years later. No team could match Lombardi’s when the exhaustion set in during the later stages of the games they played during the height of their power. There were teams that could match their natural athletic abilities, but none could match their endurance. The game was won by the intense time of preparation as much as it was won on the actual field of play. This sports analogy isn’t far-fetched. Paul, the great champion for taking the Gospel of Christ forth, used just such a comparison to describe his life, death, and glorious future in God’s kingdom: For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. (2 Timothy. 4:4–8) Paul was obviously a sports fan. In his writings, he used imagery like running a race, beating the air, finishing the course, and others that indicate he at least took interest in the society of his day. That culture was filled with sports activities that were a natural subject matter for the great teacher to interject as he presented the Gospel and biblical matters. The games of the day included Olympic-type events, with the races in particular turning on the fans’ cheers. Judges placed crowns of laurels (formed from leaves) upon the victors’ heads. Paul linked the races of his time to the bema judgment (the judgment seat of Christ), where children of God will receive crowns of victory based upon how they ran the race for Christ’s cause during their lifetimes. The very nature of such a race indicates the necessity of enduring–persevering—through the long, sometimes uphill miles of living righteously. Most often, Paul used such analogies to indicate, as in the verses above, the fact that Christians should be willing to endure. In many places, the apostle taught us how to build our spiritual stamina. That preparation most often was wrapped around prayer, Scripture study, and practical action–witnessing and teaching truth to others. God’s Word telling us to endure is one topic that has caused anxiety-ridden questions among some. It seems to some that the command to “endure,” according to the language used, is a requirement for achieving salvation. One must “endure unto the end” to be saved—to win in the game of life, thus secure one’s place in Heaven for eternity. Endurance is one thing God requires of His children. As a matter of fact, He demands it. But, what does the term “endurance” used in the Scriptures, causing anxieties among some believers, mean, exactly? A close examination of the key verses involved is necessary to understand the term in God’s prophetic lexicon. One such reference is found in Paul’s words about a departure from Bible doctrine at the end of the Church Age: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. (2 Timothy 4:3–5) Paul was prophesying a time–indeed, I am convinced we are in that time—when many within the very heart of the Christian Church will move away from preaching and teaching that people are lost and need the Savior, Jesus Christ, alone (John 14:6). This failure to endure the sound doctrine taught by Jesus, Paul, and the other apostles would, Paul indicated, be a fatigue that would make cowards of many, causing them and those they teach to turn to lies. We see today this very thing. The Gospel message that declares humankind is lost in sin, thus must turn to the shed blood of Jesus Christ for remission of that deadly sin, has been changed to give the feel-good message that God is love and would never condemn those He knows to be less than perfect. The fable makers teach the do-good message that we must go along with the world of philanthropists who preach a social gospel to feed, clothe, and, in general, show the have-nots that humanism is their savior. Much of the Church today, thus, has failed to “endure until the end.” Jesus pronounced, in strong language, the role “endurance” will play in the days leading up to His second advent: And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (Matthew 24:11–13) Jesus even asks in one instance whether He will find any faith on earth when He returns. And, this is where the anxiety comes in for some. Is Jesus saying that those who do not hold to absolute Bible truth until the very end won’t be “saved”? Must we—and those of the Tribulation era—never slip up and sin, departing from truth, or else suffer the eternal damnation of Hell fire? The answer is found within the character of the One who issued the solemn statement. Jesus, who said, “It is finished,” when He completed the redemption plan of God on the cross at Calvary, also said: My Father, which gave [them] me, is greater than all; and no [man] is able to pluck [them] out of my Father’s hand. (John 10:29) Saints “endure” through Christ. We don’t have the ability to resist this fallen world apart from the strength found only in our Savior. The supernatural endurance required to “endure unto the end” is not in us, but in Jesus, who paid the full price for our eternal souls: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8–9) When we are “in” Christ, we will “endure,” because Christ “endures.” He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! Now, this doesn’t excuse the Christian from remaining faithful to God. In that sense, “endurance” is our responsibility. It is our responsibility to the very end of our lives or until the Rapture of Christ’s Body, the Church. We are to strengthen ourselves for spiritual battle in order to not become fatigued through prayer, Bible study, and telling others about Christ. We put on the whole armor of God as we are directed to do in Ephesians 6. God equips us. He doesn’t demand such a hard thing without providing the ability–even the absolute guarantee—of that sort of “endurance” that takes His child “unto the end.” Those who fail to exercise their witness, in whatever way God directs, become flabby, ineffective ambassadors in Christ’s royal service. There is always a heavy price to pay for such sloth—not through the loss of salvation for those who are truly in Christ’s grip, but through a loss of position within the kingdom of God. Those who fail to endure in the center of God’s will suffer loss of rewards when they kneel before their Savior at the judgment seat of Christ. That is one primary reason we at Rapture Ready exhort Christians to join in our efforts in these closing days of the Age of Grace–the Church Age. There are many, many opportunities to labor, to “endure,” during the trying times presented by this dynamic website effort to reach the lost world for Christ. Many are writing articles, many are writing encouraging emails, and some are giving in other ways to God’s work on raptureready.com. One area we very much need help with is finances. Donations have dwindled, yet the ministry-associated needs of Christ have never been more pronounced. Enduring to the end also means supporting Christ-centered ministries with our monetary offerings. If hundreds of millions of dollars can be contributed to myriad worldly causes, many of which actively support anti-God activities, why don’t those who hold to Bible truth support faithful ministries with greatly abundant offerings? Jesus said: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21). Let us run the race until we reach Heaven’s finish line. You and I will then hear the Lord who died for us say: Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. (Matthew 25:23) Daily Jot: What is your Shemittah? - Bill Wilson – www.dailyot.com There has been a lot written in recent times about the shemittah. In Hebrew, the shemittah, means “to let go,” or “to withdraw.” It has been tied to judgment, and some have erroneously used it to falsely prophesy about financial disaster and other God-instilled accountability measures associated with America turning away from God. The scriptures, however, point to a much more profound meaning that was for Israel, true rest, abounding faith, and ultimate redemption of mankind. In a greater and deeper study of the shemittah, we can find our true shemittah, a greater understanding of God’s redemption plan and what it means for us as believers in Christ. In Leviticus 25:2, The LORD told Moses, “Tell the people of Israel, When you enter the land I am giving you, the land itself is to observe a Shabbat rest for ADONAI.” Every seventh year the fields were to remain fallow for a year. The people could still eat what grew naturally without payment. Everything that grew during that year belonged to the LORD, so it was to be shared by all—even the animals! Observing the shemittah was a true test of faith, because the people had to have complete trust in the LORD’s provision. Another aspect of the shemittah was the right of redemption. After seven shemittahs, there is a Yovel, or Jubilee year, in which the land was restored to the original owner, the indentured would be freed, beginning with a blast of a shofar. Leviticus 25:9,10 says, “You are to count seven times seven years. Then, on the tenth day of the seventh month on Yom Kippur, you are to sound a blast from the shofar; you are to sound the shofar all through your land; and you are to consecrate the fiftieth year, proclaiming freedom throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It will be a yovel for you; you will return everyone to the land he owns, and everyone is to return to his family.” The people and the land are inextricably connected through God’s covenant. Our country has identified with Israel and Israel’s God from its birth. Part of this passage is engraved on the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. The Israelites were redeemed from slavery in Egypt. Goel, in Hebrew means “to buy back.” In redeeming the Israelites, God became their goel, or Kinsman Redeemer, and in legal terms, their true owner. Scripture tells us that the Messiah will return to liberate His people, and restore them to the land as the true Redeemer. As Messianic believers, we know from 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17, “For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with voice of the archangel, and with God’s shofar; and the dead in Christ rise first; then we who are left still alive will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we will always be with the Lord.” This proclamation is, in essence, a year of Jubilee. Jesus is the embodiment of the shemittah, our true rest and redemption. She pressed on and would not be discouraged. She would not take no for an answer. She was a Canaanite, and she was from the area of Tyre and Sidon, a region outside Israel where the enemies of the Jews lived. The problem was that her daughter was demon-possessed. Meanwhile, Jesus’ popularity had been growing. He had recently performed His most popular miracle to date, where he fed more than five thousand people. Then suddenly He left the country and went to Tyre and Sidon. Apparently, Jesus had an appointment with this Canaanite woman. She hadn’t grown up as a Jew, knowing the Scriptures. She certainly didn’t have the privilege of walking and talking with Jesus. In fact, she was a pagan. We don’t know how her daughter became demon-possessed, but it probably had something to do with false worship and idols in their home. This mother, disillusioned with these false gods, made her way to Jesus Christ, the one true God. She approached Him and cried out, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her severely” (Matthew 15:22 NLT). However, Jesus didn’t respond to her cries, which seems curious. He made the long journey, apparently to meet with this woman. But when she went and asked for His help, He acted as though she wasn’t even there. He didn’t appear to care at all. Yet that wasn’t the case. Jesus knew this woman’s faith. And He knew that she would rise to the occasion. He was doing this so He could provide an example for His disciples. He wasn’t being flippant. Rather, He was drawing her out. The disciples, however, misinterpreted what He was doing and tried to send her away. Maybe she was creating a bit of a scene, and they were embarrassed. Finally, Jesus said to her, “I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of Israel” (verse 24 NLT). But she wouldn’t give up, and Jesus knew this. So He said, “It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs” (verse 26 NLT). With what little she knew about Jesus, she applied dramatic faith. We might even describe it as amazing faith, so much so that Jesus said, “Dear woman . . . your faith is great. Your request is granted” (verse 28 NLT). Clearly Jesus was an expert on faith. And He was saying, “Your faith is amazing to Me. It is a great faith.” He wanted the disciples to remember it. Thus, the Bible preserves this woman’s amazing story of faith for us as an example to follow. We often find faith in unlikely places. It is grace, not the place, that makes people believers. Sometimes, especially if we’ve been in a Christian environment for quite a while, we start taking things for granted. And the very place where our hearts should be transformed can be the very place where they become hardened.
