(Note: This week, I received an email from a reader who said, “The Good News about the future for the Christian is that it is all working exactly as Almighty God said it would (through His Word) toward the end of the age. The future is glorious for those in Christ.” I believe the reader is right on target.) On Dec. 27, 2023, Worthy News’ Chief International Correspondent, Stefan J. Bos, wrote, “A nuclear arms confrontation between Iran and Israel and its allies has come closer.” Bos gave the following reasons for making this statement:
On the same day, Bos wrote a second article that says U.S. jets shot down at least 12 drones, 3 anti-ship missiles, and two cruise missiles that Iranian-backed Houthis launched toward cargo ships in the Red Sea over a 10-hour period. The Houthis are blaming the U.S. for supporting Israel’s war against Hamas. The U.S. is blaming the war on Iran for supporting Hamas. In a third Worthy News article, Correspondent Emmitt Barry reported that Hezbollah fired 34 rockets from Lebanon into Israel on Dec. 27, 2023, and the Israeli military’s Chief of Staff approved a plan to attack Hezbollah if Israel is forced to do so. In his Weekly Newsletter (December 21 – December 27, 2023), prophecy expert Amir Tsarfati wrote, “I believe that the worst of the war has not yet begun. Currently, there are only skirmishes taking place across our northern border. That will not last. Both Hezbollah and their Iranian leaders, as well as the generals of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), have their strategies planned for an all-out war across the Lebanese and Syrian borders.” The Bible teaches that bigger wars are coming (perhaps Psa. 83; Isa. 17 and Ezek. 38-39), and concern that the Middle East is steadily moving closer to a bigger war is spreading. (Update: On Dec. 27, 2023, Benny Gantz, a member of Israel’s war cabinet, said, “If the world and Lebanon’s government will not work to stop the shooting at Israel and to distance Hezbollah from the border, the IDF will do so.”) (Update: On Dec. 29, 2023, there was a report that Iran is speeding up the transfer of precision weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon. It is not likely that Israel will let that go unchallenged.) (Update: On Dec. 30, 2023, Israel announced that it will expand its operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.) (Note: On Dec. 31, 2023, the New York Post reported that Pres. Biden spent 138 days — 37% of the year — on vacation, at Camp David, or in Delaware.) (Update: On Jan 3, 2024 – the 4th anniversary of Trump’s assassination of Iranian Gen. Soleimani – two bombs exploded about 15 minutes apart at a graveside ceremony to honor him. 103 people were killed, and 141 were injured. We do not know who did this, but we do know that Israel authorized their Mossad forces to track down and kill everyone who had a part in planning the Oct. 7 attack.) Here are some events that appear to relate to Bible prophecy: One, following the confirmed death of a U.S.-Israeli hostage, Presidential candidate Nikki Haley said, “Another American is confirmed murdered by Hamas. Finish them.” In an interview, she said, “There would be no Hamas without Iran. There would be no Hezbollah without Iran. There wouldn’t be the Houthis without Iran.” She accused Pres. Biden of being “Obama 2.0” and said, “It is very dangerous when you are trying to appease a group that says, ‘Death to America.'” Iran, the worst terrorist nation on earth, is on the verge of building nuclear weapons while the world is moving closer to a nuclear confrontation between Israel and Iran. Iran is financing terrorist proxies in Iraq and Syria that are killing and injuring U.S. troops while Iran’s paid proxy, Hezbollah, is escalating its attacks on Israel. Pres. Biden seems unsure of who killed the American citizen, and he is planning to spend several days in the Virgin Islands to rest up before his Presidential campaign gets into high gear. (My opinion: Hamas celebrated the raping of women, beheading of babies, burning Jews alive, killing children, cutting up some of the bodies, seizing hostages, etc. They are proud of what they did on Oct. 7, 2023, have not apologized for it, and are still holding hostages. They say Oct. 7, 2023, was just a dress rehearsal for what they intend to do to Israel in the future. Haley is right. It is better to finish them than it is to protect them and let them do worse in the future. But trying to finish Hamas will move the Middle East closer to a much larger war. The international community should have addressed these problems a long time ago.) Two, concerning world government: on Dec. 27, 2023, it was reported that World Health Organization (WHO) Director Gen. Ghebreyesus wants everyone to eat less meat and to transition away from fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas, etc.) to combat climate change and protect the planet. Ghebreyesus said, even though the world has taken a giant step forward, “we are still only at the start of the journey.” He added, “Stay tuned.” In May 2024 (less than five months from now), world leaders will vote on an International Pandemic Treaty (IPT) and International Health Regulations (IHRs) that, if passed, will empower the WHO to force its will on everyone on earth (and they are just getting started). (Note: The vote will be in May 2024, but Canada’s globalist Prime Min. Trudeau has already announced his support for the WHO documents that will allow the WHO to force its will on the world during a potential pandemic.) Three, on a positive note, concerning the days of Lot: Pope Francis recently gave his approval to Roman Catholics blessing same-sex couples, but that has triggered a worldwide pushback. Officials in several nations are refusing to go along with it. (My opinion: Pope Francis can bless sin if he wants to, but God does not bless sin, and He will deal with it.) Four, concerning an increase in the frequency and intensity of natural disasters at the end of the age: on Jan. 1, 2024, a powerful 7.6 earthquake (and at least 30 smaller quakes) struck off the central coast of Japan. It was reported that 4 nations (Japan, Russia, No. Korea, and So. Korea) are bracing for tsunami waves up to 16 ft, drownings, landslides, destruction of property, etc. Japan ordered about 100,000 citizens to evacuate their homes. Early reports say at least 6 people are known to be buried under rubble, and a massive fire is raging in a residential area of Japan. (Update: On Jan. 2, 2024, it was reported that the number of confirmed dead in Japan has reached 48, 5,000 houses may have been destroyed, and rescue workers are struggling to reach many people in freezing temperatures that they fear are trapped in collapsed buildings. Helicopter pilots say there are many fires in areas that will be difficult to reach.) Five, concerning an increase in the frequency and intensity of wars and rumors of wars at the end of the age: on Dec. 31, 2023, No. Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, instructed his military to mobilize its forces to destroy the U.S. and So. Korea if they attack his nation. Six, concerning a departure from the faith at the end of the age: on Jan. 2, 2024, it was reported that a professor at Franciscan University of Steubenville (a Catholic university in Ohio) urged Pope Francis to resign and spend the rest of his life in a monastery praying for forgiveness over his approval of blessings for gay couples. The professor said someone needs to tell Francis he is all wet, and heads need to roll at the Vatican. The criticism of Francis in the Roman Catholic church is widespread, but no one expects him to resign or officials at the Vatican to be removed. I may be wrong, but I have the impression that the Vatican is infested with gays and pedophiles. (More: In Dec. 2023, the UK Methodist Church released an Inclusive Language Guide advising Methodists to stop using the terms husband and wife because many will find the words offensive. God inspired those who wrote the Bible to use these words hundreds of times, but the UK Methodist Church does not want people to use them.) Seven, concerning the coming global economic collapse: on Dec. 29, 2023, America’s national debt topped $34 trillion, our government expects to have to borrow another trillion dollars by the end of March, and there seems to be no end to Biden’s spending on Ukraine, illegal aliens, climate change, and the like. Interest on America’s national debt was $879 billion in fiscal year 2023 ($2.4 billion per day), and it is expected to keep soaring. An economic collapse in the U.S. would likely collapse the global economy. (More: On Jan. 2, 2024, it was reported that financial analysts are concerned that the U.S. economy could be in trouble in 2024. Many businesses need to refinance their commercial loans, but interest rates are up, and their property is not worth as much as they owe on it.) Eight, concerning world government and persecution: on Jan. 2, 2024, prophecy expert Terry James wrote, “Christians are a roadblock to globalism – and the world powers know it.” James urges people to resist globalism and be sure they are saved. [email protected] Israel Matters to The Past, Present, And Future Of Human History – By Mark Henry - https://harbingersdaily.com/israel-matters-to-the-past-present-and-future-of-human-history/ Israel is in the news today in lots of different ways, and people have lots of opinions. But I want you to know Israel is a special place. Israel is the “Bible land.” All the important things of human history that God has planned, both from the past, present, and future, are focused largely within what I call “the Golden Triangle.” It’s about five and a half miles long, a mile wide at the most. That’s why Israel is so unique. In this triangle, and around that triangle as well, God said that there would be a unique people, the Jewish people, and through them, the Messiah would come. This Messiah would be the descendant of Abraham and also of King David. He would be born in Bethlehem, just five miles from Jerusalem. Jerusalem is incredibly important. This is the only place on earth where God has chosen to make His name known so that you and I might know Him and have a relationship with Him. In the old days, God chose this place. It is here that Jewish people set up the temple and followed God’s instructions, and here that God met/tabernacled with them. Down the valley, there is Bethlehem, where Jesus was born—the incarnation. Within the golden triangle, everything about Jesus is going to unfold. There are a lot of people who attack the incarnation. Satan doesn’t want you to believe that there is a second person of the Trinity, Jesus, who left the glory above, coming to earth in the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and then dying 30 years later as a substitute—right there in the golden triangle—on the cross so that you and I might have everlasting life. When they took Him down from the cross, He promised, like God had promised to the prophets 1000 years earlier, that His body would not undergo decay. They put Him in the tomb, and three days later, the tomb was empty because He had resurrected from the dead. What makes Jesus different? How do you know that Jesus is the Son of God? The Bible says God declared it! God shouted that Jesus is the Son of God by resurrection power. You may think, “Well, that’s 2000 years ago. I didn’t even learn American history; why in the world would I worry about ancient history?” Because this ancient history determines where you are today in relationship to God and what your future looks like. It was here, in that golden triangle, where God made his name known, where Jesus came, where Jesus died, and where Jesus was raised on the third day. Do you know that right now, Jesus has ascended into heaven? He is seated at the right hand of the Father on high, and He’s saving for Himself a people for His own possession from every tribe, tongue, and nation. See, it doesn’t matter what your skin tone is. It doesn’t matter what your passport is. It doesn’t matter what your language is. The reality is that you and I are descendants, and we have the same problem: sin. Jesus is the only solution, and He comes out of this golden triangle. When Jesus comes back, where does He show up? In the Golden Triangle, on the Mount of Olives. When you stand on that Temple Mount, you can look down and see Bethlehem, where He was born. When you look to the north, you see where He was crucified and where the empty tomb is. And when you look across to the east, you see the Mount of Olives, where Jesus is going to come and touch down in the future. Your past, present, and future, in regard to sin and a relationship with God, all happen in that golden triangle. That’s why the Land of Israel matters, and this is what the Bible describes. Look at the facts: North Korea just launched a succession of artillery at the South. Serbia is about to restore the draft for war with Kosovo. Azerbaijan and Armenia as still very close to full-scale conventional war. The Muslims are slaughtering innocents in Nigeria. Worse yet, the Muslims in Sudan just slaughtered thousands in small villages in out of the way places. China and India are still in a hot-border dispute. India and Pakistan have a long-running border dispute. Syria still has a civil war. Turkey just attacked thousands of Kurds in Syria and Iraq. China told President Biden to his face that they will take back Taiwan this year. Iranian proxies are attacking U.S. bases almost daily. Yemen (another Iranian proxy) is attacking ships near in the area. Russia has invaded Ukraine, without any sign of repenting, and every day it seems another Muslim nation makes political and/or military advances against the tiny nation of Israel! The Bible foretells that in the last days, Israel will be the epicenter of many of these global events, as if to say, "All eyes will be on Israel!" It's amazing to consider that of all these conflicts, the world's attention is in fact fixated foremost on Israel, right now! As terrible as the conflicts all were over the past couple decades, no conflict has brought the world into such strife and division as this current situation involving Israel. The "winnowing fork," as clearly prophesied throughout the Bible, remains God's Israel. As Israel continues to be revealed as God's land of holy prominence and eternal heritage, let the nations take note and even be warned. Students of war should take the time to study Israel's defense in the Six Day War in 1967 and the Yom Kippur victory they had in defending themselves, outnumbered, in 1973. The outright miracles God did for Israel throughout those wars, delivering them, should make any enemy of Israel think long and hard before attempting to wipe her "from off the face of the earth." Any nation throughout antiquity that attempted such a feat has been totally and utterly removed from the world. One story in particular I have enjoyed involves God's people during the reign of King Hezekiah. (You might enjoy reading the story for yourselves. The prophet Isaiah, who lived this story with the king, testifies of all that happened in his book, chapters 36 and 37.) In short, the Assyrian king – who had just absolutely demolished the 10 tribes to the north, some estimating as many as 20 million Israelites slaughtered – marched on to Jerusalem with 185,000 troops, an army that had never lost a battle! King Hezekiah was well aware of all of these facts as he watched the Assyrians surround the walls of Jerusalem with men, weapons and machines of war. Wisely, the king sought the Lord God by His prophet Isaiah. Hezekiah agreed to turn all Jerusalem back to their God and His commandments and practically asked Isaiah to inquire of the Lord, to see if God would save them from certain destruction! Isaiah inquired of the Lord and returned to the king with His response, chapter 37, vv. 33-35: "[The king of the Assyrians] shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. By the way that he came, by the same he shall return. … For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake." Understand the odds against Judah; its army couldn't have been much more than 20,000 – and how few of them were actually men of war?! As history tells, Assyria had just destroyed Judah's city of Lachish. There was absolutely nothing stopping them from taking Jerusalem, until the Lord said, "I will defend My Jerusalem!" And modern archeology testifies to the perfect accuracy of the whole Biblical tale. Here is an article I wrote on the subject with a great video presentation: "The Ancient Site of Nineveh Proves the Bible to be True!" What happened to the Assyrians? Why did they disappear from history? Why was Babylon able to take over their entire empire? An empire that was undefeatable for decades if not centuries! What the Lord did for Jerusalem and King Hezekiah also completely demolished the Assyrian empire. Read what happened next, chapter 37, verse 36, "Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote [killed] in the camp of the Assyrians 185,000: and when they arose in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses." The king of the Assyrians returned to Nineveh having lost the entirety of his army. Certainly, as modern archeology confirms, it would not be long until a competitor nation would overthrow Assyria entirely and reign in their stead. Babylon came to power on the heels of God's great overthrow of Assyria, since it was defenseless, totally and completely without an army! There is another story wherein God fought for the Southern Kingdom, without the people having to lift a single sword, spear or bow! Read 2 Chronicles 14:9-15. A million Ethiopians came against King Asa and the armies of Jerusalem. Asa called upon the Lord his God for help, and the Lord showed up in force! Verse 12 says, "The Lord smote [killed] the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled." God wiped out a million-man army for His people, and they spoiled their lands greatly and took back to Jerusalem incredible amounts of wealth. These stories and others: Joshua and Jericho, Moses and Pharoah, David and Goliath, etc. should serve as a warning to the enemies of God and His Israel. The Bible foretells that God will bring the armies of the nations in the end to "the valley of decision" and there the Son of Man will come, riding upon a white horse with the armies of heaven following after Him, and there will be a great victory as the Lord sets up His kingdom on the earth to rule and reign for a thousand years. If some are having a difficult time with the reality of the Living God, I encourage everyone to look at the archeological finds [See several articles written about the archeology] proving the Bible's authenticity and accuracy. Be warned, all you nations, "For he that touches [Israel] touches the apple of [God's] eye"! And "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God!" (Zechariah 2:8 and Hebrews 10:31) Wisdom and prudence say, Let the nations reconsider their advance, position and/or assault against what is God's. Amen. Could America’s Dismissal of God Lead to A ‘Black Swan Event’ In 2024? – Hal Lindsey - https://harbingersdaily.com/could-americas-dismissal-of-god-lead-to-a-black-swan-event-in-2024/ Human beings mostly learn about the future by remembering the past. Whether five minutes ago or five millennia ago, history gives us patterns that we expect to continue. For Christians, history’s great pattern is that God is always right. That means we can completely trust His word. But both believers in Jesus and unbelievers expect to see the sun rise tomorrow morning primarily because it has always risen in the past. Humans can’t see beyond “now,” but we do make good guesses. We predict the movement of heavenly bodies based on their past movements. That’s proven to be quite reliable. We expect the stock market to move according to forces that we can see and understand. That one is hit and miss. But, based on the past, we feel entirely certain that there will at least be a stock market tomorrow — though that could be wrong. We don’t know how well crops will do, but we know things planted and watered in the right soil and the right climate will tend to grow. We sow, and we reap. All this works well… until it doesn’t. Sometimes something comes along that no one (or almost no one) predicted. We call it a Black Swan Event. The idea started with a 2nd-century Roman poet known as Juvenal. He characterized something as being “as rare upon the earth as a black swan.” At that time, no one believed black swans existed. In English, “rare as a black swan” came to be a metaphor for something that never happens. In his 1902 book, Proverb Lore, Edward Hulme said people used the phrase “rare as a black swan,” to express “the greatest impossibility the speaker could imagine.” Then, in 1697, Europeans finally saw actual black swans on the continent of Australia. And the meaning of “black swan” changed. It came to mean something difficult or impossible to have foreseen. According to dictionary.com, it means, “an occurrence or phenomenon that comes as a surprise because it was not predicted or was hard to predict.” All this comes to mind because of something CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge said on Face the Nation, Christmas Eve. “2024 may be the year of a black swan event,” she said. “This is a national security event with high impact that’s very hard to predict. There are a number of concerns that I have that factor into that. Not only this sort of enduring, heightened threat level that we’re facing, [but] the wars in Israel, also Ukraine. And we’re so divided in this country in ways that we haven’t seen before. And I think that just creates fertile ground for our adversaries like North Korea, China, and Iran. That’s what concerns me most.” You’re not going out on a limb to say, “2024 may be the year of a black swan event.” Any year might have such an event. But she’s right that the United States is particularly vulnerable right now. It is deeply divided. Its military has been weakened by poorly directed spending and woke political considerations. Enemies have new tools with which to harm us. Also, the rage against America has grown substantially in just the last few months. Heightened rage often brings with it an increase in the enemy’s determination, perseverance, and in the cruelty of their tactics. But the greatest danger facing America is its arrogant dismissal of the God whose blessings it daily squanders. Vast portions of the population spend their blessings from God on activities that demean humanity and exalt evil. In this, the US is joined by most of the world. At a time when the human race should be humbled before an unprecedented potential for destruction, nations arrogantly spit in God’s face at every opportunity. If you are a Christian, walk close to Him this new year. Walk in the richness of His loving presence. Trust Him. Rejoice in Him. If you are not a Christian believer, meaning you don’t yet know Him as Savior, please understand that He will enter your life when you invite Him in. This is that time. Don’t wait. Invite Him now. Daily Jot: Of the burning bush, sandals, and hearing God - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com When was the last time you looked up at the night sky and saw thousands, if not, millions of stars? When camping in my childhood, I used to lay out under the stars and marvel at their great numbers. In Ghana, West Africa, you can sit outside at night and the only light in the rural areas comes from the moon or the stars. You can see millions of them. I remember sitting on the back deck of a friend’s house on the West coast of Nicaragua. We saw a shooting star. Then another one. That one night we counted about 23 shooting stars. We marveled at the sight of so many. These are things that we just do not normally see because if we live in a populated area, the light from our surroundings masks the brilliance of the stars. It’s like that with hearing from God as well. What interferes with hearing from God? So many people say they just don’t know how to hear what God wants from them. Let us be reminded of Moses. The Angel of the LORD (Melakh Adonai), appeared to Moses in the fire amidst a flaming bush and told him to take off his sandals for he was on holy ground. The LORD identified Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He had seen the suffering of His people, and had chosen Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt to the Promised Land. Moses asked who should he say sent him. The Lord told him, “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh,” (“I will be what I will be”). In Exodus 3:14-15, God told Moses, “You shall say unto the children of Israel, I AM has sent me unto you.” Then God further revealed His sacred Name “YHVH, the God of your father’s, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob…this is my Name forever.” The phrase, “I Am that I Am,” is derived from the verb hayah, “I will be,” and is connected to the Name YHVH, because God is the source of all being, He is Life itself. Even with the revelation of God’s Name to Moses, Moses was still hesitant to accept his mission, and argued that he was not eloquent enough to be God’s spokesman. He said he was “heavy of mouth” and “heavy of tongue,” and God reminded him in Exodus 4:11-12 that He was the creator of the mouth, saying, “Who gives a person a mouth? Who makes a person dumb, or deaf, keen-sighted, or blind? Isn’t it I, ADONAI? Now, therefore go; and I will be with your mouth and will teach you what to say.” From this amazing encounter, Moses is a prime example of the phrase, “know before Whom you stand.” This phrase is written on the doors of the Aaron ha-Kadesh–the place where the Torah scrolls are kept. A reminder that the LORD is always present, as in Isaiah 6:3, “The whole earth is filled with His glory.” The LORD revealed Himself directly to Moses in the flames of the burning bush. He reveals Himself to us today through the flames of His Holy Spirit. Even though we often cannot see the stars at night because of earthly interferences, they are still there. And even though we may not hear the Lord because of the earthly distractions, he is ever present. Like Moses, may we take off our shoes (our connection to the world), and draw near to Him that we might hear, listen and act! And as I’ve listened to the regrets that people have, I have yet to meet anyone who said, “I regret that I became a Christian when I was eighteen.” On the other hand, I’ve heard a lot of people say, “I regret that I didn’t do this sooner. I regret all the wasted years.” Don’t let that happen to you. After trying everything the world had to offer, King Solomon summed up his experience by saying, “Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad” (Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 NLT). Solomon was saying, “Listen to a seasoned pro. I know what I’m talking about here. If you leave God out of the picture, then your life will be empty, meaningless, and futile. But if you want to live a life that is full, a life of purpose, then here it is: fear God and obey His commands.” That’s what will keep you on track with God’s plan for your life. Fear God and obey His commands. However, a lot of us don’t like commands. We see them as restrictive. But if we want to live a life that is full, we must recognize there is structure, there are parameters, and there are absolutes. It would be like someone saying, “I don’t like traffic laws. I’m not into stoplights. And I don’t like those dotted lines down the road. They really bug me. I’m going to drive wherever I want to drive and go wherever I want to go. I want my freedom.” Instead, what they’ll get is the freedom to have an accident. They’d better stay in their lane and hope the other drivers do so as well. Those lanes and traffic laws are there for our protection. They exist so that we can go where we need to go. We might look at the commandments of God and think they’re ruining our lives. But God didn’t give us His commands to make our lives miserable. Rather, they are walls and barriers of protection to keep evil out. That is what Solomon was saying. It’s for our own good. Yes, the Bible does say that we shouldn’t do certain things. The Bible does tell us to stay away from particular things. But when it tells us not to do something, it also tells us to do something else instead. For example, the Bible says, “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life” (Ephesians 5:18 NLT). There is the don’t. It goes on to say, “Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts” (verses 18–19 NLT). There is the do. God’s plan is always better. Yes, He tells us what we should avoid. But it is for our own good.
