The Apocalypse Journal: Volume II – Pete Garcia - https://www.rev310.net/post/the-apocalpyse-journal-volume-ii
Every empire at one point had some beauty and/or uniqueness that made it stand apart from all the rest. At one point in their being, each empire/kingdom/nation had signs of their distinctive existence dotting their landscape and was reflected by the vibrant towns and cities teeming with their people and customs. However, just as with the laws of thermodynamics regarding entropy, every empire returns to the common ground of absolute zero after they are collapsed. “When we look back through the remnants of the once-great kingdoms, we repeatedly see man’s attempt to thwart the ravages of time. Great structures, towering to the heavens. Vast expanses of granite columns, ziggurats, and other megalithic structures—mankind’s attempt to live beyond his generation. Ironically, we want those archaic reminders to be set far off, into the distant past, often farther than they really were. We want them to be older because we are instinctively uncomfortable with the sight and rapidity of entropy and urban decay. It reminds us of our own mortality. It reminds us of the raw and unrelenting power of entropy. It reinforces the biblical concept that things will ultimately worsen. It reminds us, that when left to our own devices, we default to wickedness, and things fall apart rather quickly. Like the abandoned nineteenth-century coal and steel towns that blight this nation’s landscape, these serve as a reminder of the ravages of time and consequence. Abandoned towns, often overgrown with weeds and vines, mold, and decay, present a dystopian picture of something gone amiss. Once-thriving communities now lie hollowed out, haunted, and home to the creeping things. Playgrounds where children once played now sit rusting under an uncaring sky. Crumbling buildings. Streets and sidewalks cracked and weed-ridden. Their neglect serves as a lingering reminder that human civilization is not so far removed from the cold, dark, woods, that once haunted our ancestors. Moreover, it wasn’t so long ago that mankind became so spiritually decayed that God decided to start again.” Pete Garcia, The New Old Ways (Chapter 10) I wrote the above chapter as a contribution to Terry James’ book, Lawless, in which I describe in more detail the two distinct themes common to human history- the pursuit of forbidden knowledge, and the ruin it causes by recycling said pursuit. When nation's yield to the pursuit of this forbidden knowledge, they do so only by first sacrificing their God-ordained rights to exist. Once said kingdom buckles, these once-vibrant hubs of humanity, now become wastelands of empty towns, empty streets, and hollowed-out buildings. The built-up places are given back over to nature, where rust and vine reclaim their rightful ownership. Their highways and byways, now devoid of life or movement, yield all right-of-ways back to the creatures of the forest. Where there once were sounds of children and commerce, are now replaced with the lonely sounds of the wild. You’d think, given the bleakness of this particular topic, it would be about as popular as shingles or the Bubonic plague. However, I don't suppose I'm alone in this particular fascination of societal collapse. Apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, and dystopian movies, books, and television shows are now so popular, that they have each become their own genres. Given said popularity, I suppose the end of the world has a paradoxical way of both captivating and disturbing most normal people. It reminds me of the famous work of secular literature regarding the temporary and fleeting idea of man's glory and societal collapse; Percy Bysshe Shelley’s (1817) work, Ozymandias. I met a traveler from an antique land, Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.” One would think this fascination would have waned a bit since the onset of the recent dynamic global events of the past couple of years. It would seem the reality of societal collapse is now becoming less and less of an abstract academic or entertainment-based curiosity, and more of a pragmatic one. The threat of societal collapse comes from the intentional and relentless promotion of globalism, open borders, mass migration of displaced peoples, and the erosion of the rule of law. And all these are on top of an already strained global economy saddled with a pandemic. If anything, 2020-21 has given western civilization a small taste of the pending destruction that is on the horizon. I suspect even this emerging reality both scares and fascinates people with equal enthusiasms. Part of it is the fascination we have with wrapping our minds around such visuals as a vacant New York City or Washington D.C. The more appealing aspect of it I suspect is the end of normalcy, particularly, if your version of normal is insufferably mundane or monotonous. Still, while everyone wants to watch the end of the world from a distance, no one actually wants to live through it. Assessment And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:17 Speaking not from a religious or spiritual standpoint, but simply as a mortal being, we are all (we’re we being totally honest with ourselves) morbidly curious about how everything ends, because deep down, we know it must. How could we not? I mean, everything in our world, to the present, has had an expiration date. To that end, the world is littered with empires, kingdoms, and nations, which have all come and gone. Whatever ruins they have left behind, are only ever hollowed-out shells of what used to be. What remains is nothing more than a shadow of its former greatness. The only purpose they have now is to serve as reminders that this world and the things in it are passing away. I suppose, given my fondness for the topic of geopolitical entropy, people of all stripes have asked me, what I thought happens to the United States in the end? I usually respond with a counter-question akin to something like- what makes us any different than any other empire of old? Kingdoms like ancient Egypt, Babylon, or Rome were all great superpowers of their respective days, and yet, they have all come and gone. I respond this way primarily because it taps into a familiar, historical narrative of what is known. It should (in most cases) remind them that the way things are now, is not how they will always be. True, we moderns can gaze upon the ruins of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome and see when man was once ancient. However, ancient is a matter of perspective. To the ‘ancient Greeks,’ the Chaldeans were ancient. To the young millennials, the 1980s were ancient. The truth is, I do think America was special and divinely chosen to fulfill a particular role/mission here in the last days. What I was referring to in my counter-question was not regarding our purpose for existence, but our longevity. To date, every nation has followed Alexander Tytler’s Cycle of Nations model, or one very similar to it, and we are no exception to that. "Eight Stages of a Democracy." 1) Bondage to Spiritual Faith 2) Spiritual Faith to Great Courage 3) Great Courage to Liberty 4) Liberty to Abundance 5) Abundance to Selfishness 6) Selfishness to Apathy 7) Apathy to Dependence 8) Dependence back to Bondage Furthermore, if what President John Adams had this to say regarding our way of life is true, then I presume we are doomed. He once said…Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. Since we have long abandoned any pretenses of being a moral people, what we are now witnessing is the final stages of the demise of our own empire. The truth is, the Bible purposefully making no mention of the world’s greatest superpower in its description of the last days seems overtly obvious. It might be considered an argument from silence, but it is a deafening and unsettling silence. A similar argument could be made in support of this by the unnatural silence found in nature. Normally, when you walk through the woods, you hear all manner of sounds. That is because the woods are teeming with life (birds, insects, squirrels, bears, deer, frogs, etc.) and as such, make noise analogous to life. However, if you were to walk through the woods and hear nothing- no insects, no birds, no animals, and perhaps, not even any wind or rustling of leaves, you know something is amiss. This is the same type of silence regarding the fate of the United States in the Bible. The intentional silence of our nation can only be due to our non-existence. We are far too clamorsome and intrusive to not warrant a mention. In fact, so great is the silence of our existence in Scripture that to think otherwise is too great an oversight for any reasonable person to accept. The fact that we are not mentioned means either we never existed (which can't be true), or rather, are not in existence at the time of the events being described. Obviously, the world without the United States is a significant change to the world order of today. The usual response I get from those who don’t see the US going anywhere is that the US didn’t exist back then, so it was only natural as to why it’s not accounted for in an ancient document like the Bible. However, the Bible does mention other future nations who had not yet come to power by the time of its writing, especially in the Old Testament books like Daniel and Ezekiel. Nations like Persia, Russia, Greece, Libya, the Romans, and a future revived Roman Empire were all future to the time of those prophetic writings, so our exclusion is not without precedent. Is it safe to assume that there were "patriots" in the Roman Empire (circa 4th century AD) who longed to see the revival of the greatness of Rome? How is that any different than our own MAGA and Tea Party movements today? That is not to say it's wrong to want to make your country better or return to more, moral, chivalrous, and honor-bound times. It's not wrong, it's just misguided. We are far too divided as a nation to really ever recover. Think about it this way- if the United States fought a bloody, four-year civil war in the 1800s over the issues of states' rights and slavery (two issues), how much more issues do we have today that are worthy of battle? I can think of a dozen off the top of my head that could split this nation six ways from Sunday. The truth is, as a nation, we have been pursuing our present course of materialism, secularism, and agnosticism since at least the 1960s. The corruption is far too systemic and embedded into every institution to change it now without some cataclysmic civil war or change to our way of life. If the election of Donald Trump in 2016, and the elections of 2020 proved anything, it is just how rotting and corrupt our form of governance has become. Any attempts to change or correct our current trajectory is met with the full force of the bureaucratic deep state, and its minions at nearly every federal and corporate institution. Barring any divine intervention (more on this in Volume III), is the fact this nation is headed for utter ruin. By ruin I mean, a total collapse of our federal, constitutional republic and replacing it with something else. Something lesser. Given the historical tendencies of human history, we are destined to either become or succumb to one or all of the following outcomes:
None of these are preferable options to our present situation. Therefore, what would likely happen is as follows.
Volume II Conclusion It is not my intent to hammer out such a depressing topic on the first week of this new year but to simply and honestly chronicle where we are as a nation. It does no one any justice to lie and pretend we are on the cusp of some great spiritual and economic revival. We have been a collective and geographically isolated people now for 402 years. We have been a constitutional republic now for 246 years. We have been a nation in the throes of a cold civil war now for the better part of 70 years. The divine bill for our decadence and moral corruption has come due, and we (as a nation) must pay the price. The irony is not lost on me of the short-lived Cold War victory against the Evil Empire (USSR); I failed to realize just how short-lived that victory really was. While many were busily glad-handing each other over said victory, the institutions of this nation were drowning in corruption; neck-deep in the fight of our national life. There inside our own borders, was raging the existential clash of civilizations most Americans weren't even aware was happening until at least the 2010s. All that this finally-realized acknowledgment of the war really did, so late in the game, was to recognize that it was already too late. At best, all the Tea Party and MAGA movements did was delay the inevitable by a decade or less. The reason hardly anyone even knew we were in a war, is because this war was not flashy, nor represented in pop culture. It was not fought with bullets or bombs but by treachery and subversion. It was an ideological war of attrition, pitting two ways of life against each other and seeing who will outlast the other. The subversives had been so effective at hiding their true intentions, that to even question it, was to immediately be labeled a conspiracy theorist and shunned by the mainstream. On one side of the conflict, we have a coalition of determined leftists and progressives who have joined hands in an uneasy and unlikely alliance with Islamists, communists, socialists, anarchists, and corporate globalists. While they each have radically different views on how the world should run, they are of the same mind in regards to upending the current world order. On the other side, we have the average citizen, who, though, greatly outnumbering the former, have only recently awakened and are still operating more like a rabble, than a unified front. However, even if the rabble created a unified front, is no guarantee of outcome. The leftists hold all the key government, corporate, social media, academic, and entertainment positions of power. They control 99% of the messaging platforms. They control the propaganda machines. They control the bureaucracy. They are singularly committed to ending our reign as the world's global superpower. While we might have successfully brought down the Russian bear, what replaced it was the multi-headed hydra. You may cut off one head, but two arise to take its place. The only one who can defeat this new beastly foe is not the freedom-loving peoples of the world, but Jesus Christ Himself. to be continued Iran's "Nuclear Blackmail": Iran Has No Interest in Negotiating a New Nuclear Deal - by Con Coughlin - https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/18091/iran-nuclear-blackmail Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid's observation that Iran is engaging in "nuclear blackmail" with Western negotiators provides a damning indictment of the current state of play regarding the negotiations being held in Vienna on Tehran's nuclear activities. With Western intelligence agencies warning that Iran could be just weeks away from producing the weapons grade uranium required to build nuclear warheads, there is mounting concern over progress being made at the Vienna talks, which are trying to revive the flawed 2015 deal agreed by the Obama administration. Instead of taking the negotiations seriously, however, Western negotiators -- including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken -- have expressed frustration that Iran is using the talks as a delaying tactic while it continues work on its uranium enrichment activities, which have now moved well beyond the level originally agreed upon in the 2015 deal. This contingency has prompted Mr. Lapid to call on the West to develop a "credible" military threat to deal with Tehran if the talks end without a satisfactory resolution. Speaking exclusively in an interview this author conducted with the Israeli Foreign Minister for The Daily Telegraph in late December, Mr Lapid declared that such measures were necessary if Tehran was to be prevented from acquiring a nuclear weapons arsenal. "If the Iranians think the world does not seriously intend to stop them, they will race towards the bomb," said Mr. Lapid. "We must make it clear that the world will not allow this to happen. There needs to be a credible military threat on the table." Mr Lapid, a former journalist who was also appointed Israel's alternate prime minister when he was appointed foreign minister by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett earlier this year, said it was vital the West developed "a plan for Iran's continued intransigence and advancing of its nuclear program." Mr. Lapid's calls have been echoed by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan who, following talks with Mr. Bennett in Jerusalem, called for world powers to adopt a "common strategy" for dealing with Iran. Mr. Lapid's concerns about Iran's approach to the Vienna talks are supported by Western security officials closely monitoring the negotiations, who state that, far from taking a constructive approach to the negotiations, the Iranians are simply playing for time. Instead of focusing on key issues, such as Iran's enrichment activities, Iran's main demand has been for the lifting of the punitive economic sanctions implemented as part of the former Trump administration's policy of applying "maximum pressure" on the regime. Not even the supine Biden administration, which is desperate to agree a new nuclear deal, is prepared to capitulate on this issue, with US President Joe Biden insisting that Iran must first adhere to its commitments under the 2015 deal. In the meantime, Iran has sought to string out the negotiations in Vienna by concentrating on relatively minor issues, such as whether UN inspectors can have surveillance cameras operating at key sites. Iran's obstructive conduct, moreover, is being backed by Russia and China, which were also signatories to the 2015 deal but now want to embarrass the Biden administration by ensuring the current round of talks end in failure. With the talks resuming in Vienna earlier this week, there is mounting pessimism among Western negotiators that they are unlikely to deliver any tangible breakthrough, not least because the hardline regime of Iran's recently-elected president, Ebrahim Raisi, is disinclined to engage in meaningful diplomatic negotiations with the West. The hardline approach being adopted by Tehran certainly makes the prospect of military action to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities more likely in 2022, with US military officials confidently asserting that, if military option is required, it would be possible to target Iran's entire nuclear program. The big question that remains, though, is whether, if the talks do fail, Mr Biden will have the resolve to initiate military action, or will instead seek to hit Iran with more -- presumptively ineffective -- sanctions. The Biden administration's appetite for confronting Iran could certainly prove to be pivotal to the outcome of the nuclear issue, especially in terms of Washington's military support for Israel. Even though the Israel Air Force has the ability to conduct long-range bombing operations that rely on its current fleet of Re'em air refueling tankers, Jerusalem is keen to develop its long-range bombing capabilities, and to this end placed a $2.4 billion order in March last year with the US for eight new Boeing KC-46 refueling aircraft. Israel subsequently made a request to the Biden administration to speed up the delivery of the aircraft, which could prove vital to any future military action against Iran. But the request has been denied by Washington, with the result that the first plane will not be delivered until 2024 at the earliest. In the meantime, Tehran continues to work on its controversial uranium enrichment activities so that, unless urgent action is taken soon, the world could soon find itself having to confront a nuclear-armed Iran. This Is What Happens When Millions Of Workers Disappear From The System… - by Michael Snyder - http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/this-is-what-happens-when-millions-of-workers-disappear-from-the-system/ We were warned that this would happen. In 2021, millions of Americans either quit their jobs or were forced out of their positions because of various mandates that were implemented all over the country. And as I discussed earlier this week, countless other workers either died or became incapacitated last year. As a result, our society is descending into a state of utter chaos and basic services are breaking down all around us. Let me give you a perfect illustration of what I am talking about. On Sunday, a man in St. Louis called 911 because his brother needed to go to the hospital, and it took 10 hours for the ambulance to get there… A St. Louis man said it took 10 hours for an ambulance to arrive to help his brother who fell ill Sunday afternoon. Jesse Shaw said his older brother, Wilbert, is now in the hospital fighting for his life. Shaw said his brother woke up in so much pain, he couldn’t move. If I called 911 and it took an ambulance 10 minutes to come, I would be greatly upset. Can you imagine waiting for 10 hours? That is crazy. When Shaw asked about the delay, he was told that they simply didn’t have any vehicles available… Shaw said he rushed over to his brother’s apartment and called 911 around 2:00 p.m. He was hoping to see an ambulance soon after that but ended up waiting for hours. “An hour passed. Two hours passed. Three hours passed,” Shaw said. “I called back just to make sure. Maybe they had the wrong address or something. They said they had the right address, but just didn’t have any vehicles available at the moment.” I am sure that St. Louis had plenty of empty ambulances just sitting around doing nothing. It is just that they didn’t have enough workers to operate them. Sadly, some people that actually get to the hospital on time end up dying in our emergency rooms. A few days ago, one of my readers emailed me about what is happening in her area, and she said that I could share this with all of you… Hi Michael, I hope you are well. Just wanted to share experience where I work. I have worked for the same doctor for over 30 years and I work next to Hospital. 2 people died in waiting room in past week of the ER!. The wait is 12 to 24 hours. My neighbor was stuck in ER for 3 days because of no beds. A 12 hour wait in an emergency room is inexcusable. But this is what happens when you force thousands upon thousands of hospital workers out of their jobs in the middle of a major national health crisis. Of course every industry is being hit hard by the trends that we are witnessing, and it is getting worse with each passing month. 4.5 million more Americans quit their jobs in November, and Mike Rowe is warning that “every single American” will be affected as multitudes of highly qualified people leave their posts… FOX Business personality and “How America Works” narrator Mike Rowe cautioned that “every single American” will feel the effects from the record number of U.S. workers quitting their jobs. He is right. When basic services break down, we all suffer. According to Rowe, he has “never seen anything like this”… “I’ve never seen anything like this,” Rowe noted. “I’ve heard from the energy industry, the flooring industry… the restaurant industry, the cable and broadband industry, they are all struggling with the same basic problem.” I have never seen anything like this either. But I specifically warned that this was coming. I warned my readers repeatedly that all of these absurd mandates would cause widespread chaos, and that is exactly how it is playing out. So what is the federal government going to do about this crisis? Well, apparently yet another “stimulus package” is being prepared… The Washington Post’s Tony Romm first reported that lawmakers from both parties were in talks about potentially proposing to pump billions into businesses, including hard-hit ones like restaurants. The Post reported that Sens. Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, and Roger Wicker, a Mississippi Republican — who are reportedly leading the talks — had put together a $68 billion proposal in December. “We started with restaurants but we’re prepared to expand it if we can have the necessary support,” Cardin told reporters on Wednesday. “There’s other industries that have legitimate concerns.” Throwing more money at the problem won’t bring back the workers that were sent packing because of the mandates. And throwing more money at the problem certainly won’t bring the workers that have died back from the dead. But it will cause more inflation. As I have detailed over and over again in recent months, the price of just about everything is shooting up dramatically. Unfortunately, our big spending politicians just can’t help themselves. Whenever they hear about a new problem, their solution is always to pile on more debt and more spending. Some of the biggest companies in America have already announced huge price increases for 2022, and this is just the beginning. So things are only going to get worse for the millions of U.S. families that are financially stressed because of rising inflation. According to a study that was recently released, the average American now worries about their finances “six times a day”… Budgets are tighter for millions of people with 2022 in full swing. Being money-conscious is nothing new for many of us, but new research shows the average American worries about their finances six times a day. The poll of 2,000 adults to uncover how people feel about their finances also finds millennials are more focused on their finances than any other generation. The level of worry is only going to increase as the cost of living continues to rise much faster than paychecks do. And of course all of this is setting the stage for the sort of horrific inflationary meltdown that I have long warned about. If you want to know who is responsible for this giant economic mess, it is our “leaders” in Washington. Their policies created the worker shortage that we are now facing. And their policies created the rampant inflation that we now see all around us. In 2022, I am sure that they will find even more ways to royally mess things up. We are starting to reap what we have sown, and it isn’t going to get any easier from here. Leadership in the Midst of Storms – Bill Perkins – www.compass.org To show partiality to the wicked is not good, nor to thrust aside the righteous in judgment. Prov. 18:5 It seems our worst fears are coming true. First we heard about death surges from funeral home directors. Now the CEO of a $100 billion life insurance company with 2400 employees just announced that they're inexplicitly seeing a 40% increase in quarterly deaths over pre-pandemic levels.(1) And these are not Covid deaths!! This is what several physicians have warned us about, that the va((ine contained large amounts of graphene oxide (poison) and would ultimately begin killing lots of people over time.(2) Physicians have also warned us that the va((ine would also compromise our immune system—with each shot making it worse—causing people to die from other things beside Covid.(3)(4) So this news is not necessarily unexpected, just heartbreaking. The ramifications of this are huge. If these deaths continue, they will be difficult to cover up. If the va((inated come to their senses, it could get quite interesting. Imagine realizing you’ve been duped into taking a poison that compromises your immune system by forever changing your God-designed genome defenses. If this death rate continues, the Globalists/Satanists will have to do something, anything, to cover up what’s happening. The sky's the limit as to what they might do. Expect something! It's unlikely they'll just say, "Oh darn, we were wrong." So as Believers, we need to be ready to react to the many changes that will be coming between now and the Rapture. We need to be ready to adapt and lead our families, neighbors, coworkers and our friends to God’s truth. Paul’s Leadership Example Most of us know well the story in Acts 27 where Paul was a prisoner on a Roman cargo ship headed from Caesarea to Rome where Paul was to stand trial. Despite being chained to his Centurion guard at the beginning of the trip, God allowed Paul to end up leading the entire crew and passengers to safety. Before leaving Caesarea, while Paul was in Jerusalem, the Lord had told Paul he definitely would arrive in Rome. But on the night immediately following, the Lord stood at his side and said, “Take courage; for as you have solemnly witnessed to My cause at Jerusalem, so you must witness at Rome also.” Acts 23:11 So Paul KNEW he would make it to Rome one day, before he died. And throughout that ill-fated voyage he confidently made decisions based on what he knew to be true. Then, at the worst of the storm when all hope had been abandoned by the crew, God sent an angel to tell Paul he would reach Rome on this particular trip.(Acts 27:23-34) Today, it looks like Believers may also be facing similar storm-like situations—not necessarily weather, but storms nevertheless. We don’t really know what form the storms will be, but whatever they throw at us, we must be ready. Christian men will have to step up and make some tough decisions even in the middle of any howling winds. We’ll have to have confidence in what God has disclosed to us in His Word and bravely stand on what we know to be true. Just like God told Paul he would make it to Rome, God’s promised us that we’re not appointed to His wrath and will be removed from the earth prior to its arrival. For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 1Th. 5:9 The coming wrath of God is clearly not coming on Believers but on non-believers. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Eph. 5:6 So as we see the approaching storms, we’ll have to stand steadfast, knowing the Lord is in control. We’re not to worry unnecessarily about the circumstances allowed, but to look to Him Who promises to rescue us. and to await for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come. 1Th. 1:10 Of course, we have to balance our missing God’s coming wrath with the possibility of persecution, which can come in many forms. Believers who’ve lived in America all their lives rarely understand the privileges we’ve been given. God’s Wrath Is Not Christian Persecution Around the world, Christian persecution is a daily occurrence, often ending in death. So it would be hard to tell a Believer in Bangladesh whose wife has been raped, his kids murdered and house burned to the ground to not worry because the Lord is coming to rescue us before it gets bad. The Bible warns us to expect persecution “when” it comes, not “if” it comes. Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. James 1:2,3 And we also have to consider the possibility that the Rapture is 10 or more years away. Ouch! But if it is, it’s God’s Will. We'll just have to deal with it one day at a time. So regardless of what’s ahead for Believers prior to our exhilarating exit, we can rest on God’s promises in His Holy Word to sustain us. And draw from them energy to lead/teach/love those around us as we proclaim God’s truth. “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.” Deut. 31:6 God has us here and has armored us for this moment on God's calendar. So stand courageous based on what you know to be true—the ultimate va((ine is a decision to trust the Gospel! Use us, Lord! The one out behind the barn had been filled in probably in the late 1800s. I wouldn’t have known it was there but for riding past it on my pony Tricker when I was about six years old. I looked down, noticing the sinking hole in the ground and there were about three dozen baby garter snakes slithering around. Tricker snorted and jumped sideways and I almost fell among them. The second well was located about 20 yards from the house. This well was used as a back-up when more water was needed. We had a hand pump on that hand-dug well. It had a stone apron with a hole bored through the middle and we kept a large rock over it so no one or thing would fall in. The third well was located on the East side of the farm house. This was our primary water source. It was a hand-dug well about 20 feet deep and was lined with a circle of stacked rocks about three feet in diameter. This well was also capped with a large stone apron sitting about three feet off the ground with a two-foot hole bored into it. The hole was covered with another large flat rock. When running water and indoor plumbing was installed in the house in the 1950s, a pipe was run down this well and connected to another that went into the cellar to a pump. In the 1940s, Dad built the new milk house over the fourth well. It provided the water for the livestock, but there were issues. In fact, all of them had issues. The well in the milk house, which in 1968 became a tack room when we built the horse barn, was pretty shallow. It may or may not pump enough water to fill the 250 gallon (a 500 gallon oil tank cut in half) water trough next to the milk house, the trough we used to water the cattle wintering over in the old barn, and some 25 buckets of water for the horses—twice a day. If the water ran out, it was likely that we would take an axe and two buckets about 150 yards to the pond, chop a hole in the ice and start carrying water. The milk house well had a pump. But in the cold winter months, the pump would freeze up. So we had to take newspapers light them on fire and hold them to the pump for it to thaw out. It was a great day when Dad brought home an old pot belly stove that we could use to keep the pump from freezing and come in out of the cold. The well at the house also would run dry sometimes. We would have to wait for it to fill back up to finish the dishes or worse, sit in the bath tub waiting for more water. AND, the pipes to the kitchen sink would often freeze because there was no insulation between the cellar and the floor on the inside of the Northwest wall. That would shut down the water for the bathroom, too, since they were on the same line. So we would go to the hand pump and carry water until enough newspapers were burnt to thaw out the pipes. Isaiah 12:3 says, “Therefore with joy you shall draw water out of the wells of salvation.” I often think back on those wells and the struggles with them. I’m thankful that my salvation wasn’t dependent on drawing water from them. Come to think of it, there was a lot of joy when they worked. But Living Water never runs dry. Daily Devotion: Do You Want to Grow Spiritually? - by Greg Laurie – www.harvest.org Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: ‘Behold, a sower went out to sow’ —Matthew 13:3 https://harvest.org/resources/devotion/do-you-want-to-grow-spiritually/ - Listen Why is it that some people seem to grow spiritually more than other people do? The answer is that it’s really up to the individual. You decide whether you will grow spiritually or whether you won’t. Jesus told a story that we sometimes call the parable of the sower, but we also could call it the parable of the soils. It’s a story about a sower who went out to scatter seed. A planter in those days simply took the seed and randomly threw it to the wind, and it landed where it landed. In Jesus’s story, some seed fell on rock-embedded ground, and it shot up quickly but had no roots. As a result, it withered in the sun. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns choked out the seed. Some seed fell along the roadside, and the birds came and ate it. But some seeds found receptive soil, took root, and became fruitful. Jesus essentially said this is how we react to the Word of God. A lot of times as Christians, we don’t stop and think about all that God has done for us. The Bible tells us that He has justified us, which means that God took our sin, removed it, and has forgotten it. In its place He has placed the righteousness of Christ into our spiritual bank account, so to speak. This means that we now stand right before God. It also means that God sees each of us as a new person in Him. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 points out, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (NKJV). God has forgiven our sins and has secured our eternal future. In light of that fact, we should want to grow spiritually.
