The path from here to eternity grows clearer with each passing day as the prophecies of the book of Revelation leap off the page as never before. The globalists of our day speak and write about their plans for transhumanism and the Great Reset, which sound remarkably similar to what the book of Revelation predicts for the future of the world during the tribulation. We also know that although these elite powerbrokers will enjoy much success for a season, God will destroy them, and Jesus will reign over the nations of the world for a thousand years. At the current time, the world marches toward the mark of the beast as described in Revelation 13:16-18: Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666. The following three initiatives are clearing a path that leads directly to the mark of the beast as described in Revelation 13. 1. PATENT WO2020060606: THE PATH TO CONTROLLING THE BUYING AND SELLING Microsoft, along with Bill Gates, obtained this international patent in 2020: Patent WO2020060606 - Cryptocurrency System Using Body Activity Data. Yes, this patent is real as is its number. Here is the legal description of the patent: Human body activity associated with a task provided to a user may be used in a mining process of a cryptocurrency system. A server may provide a task to a device of a user which is communicatively coupled to the server. A sensor communicatively coupled to or comprised in the device of the user may sense body activity of the user. Body activity data may be generated based on the sensed body activity of the user. The cryptocurrency system communicatively coupled to the device of the user may verify if the body activity data satisfies one or more conditions set by the cryptocurrency system, and award cryptocurrency to the user whose body activity data is verified.[i] This patent envisions the use of a sensor that detects “the body activity of the user” and reports it to an outside digital computing source. The behavior of the individual then becomes the basis for his or her award of “cryptocurrency.” The reward or lack thereof results from what the sensor reports regarding the conduct of the individual. Now imagine a world where all currency exists digitally, and that day is coming, and your receipt of it does not come from the fruit of your labor, but from behaving according to the desires of a distant governing body that sets the parameters by which the computing source rewards you. This is the future envisioned by Patent WO2020060606 - Cryptocurrency System Using Body Activity Data. We do not know whether or not the antichrist uses this exact system to control the world’s commerce. However, the patent gives us a clear picture of how he will accomplish this task and tells us that the technology and planning already exist for it. We also know that other existing technologies, especially artificial intelligence, make it possible for one person to control the commerce on such a massive scale. 2. ID2020: THE PATH TO INCLUDE THE “GREAT AND SMALL” IN THE MARK What about people in the remote parts of the earth? Does Bill Gates have a plan to include them in his futuristic world of reward and punishment? Yes, he does. ID2020 is another Bill Gates and Microsoft initiative that seeks to provide 1.1 billion people in the world with the legal identification that they currently lack; it will give them a digital ID along with a vaccine, of course. Here is a description of ID2020 from the official Microsoft blog, dated January 22, 2018: As discussions begin this week at the World Economic Forum, creating universal access to identity is an issue at the top of Microsoft’s agenda, and we think technology can be a powerful tool to tackle this challenge. It was last summer that Microsoft took a first step, collaborating with Accenture and Avanade on a blockchain-based identity prototype on Microsoft Azure. Together, we pursued this work in support of the ID2020 Alliance – a global public-private partnership dedicated to aiding the 1.1 billion people around the world who lack any legal form of identity. To say that we were encouraged by its mission would be an understatement. We were inspired by it. Today, we are excited to share that we are deepening our commitment to this issue by formally joining ID2020 as a founding member. In addition to a donation of $1 million, we will commit resources and expertise to further develop a secure, portable form of digital identity and help implement it across governments and agencies.[ii] Notice the players include the World Economic Forum (WEF) that vigorously promotes both the Great Reset and transhumanism. ID2020 is not some isolated initiative that does not relate to the COVID-19 injections or the Great Reset; it’s all about identifying everyone on earth so the globalists can include them into their system of worldwide control, vaccinate them, and thereby monitor and control them. 3. “QUANTUM DOT” TECHNOLOGY: THE PATH TO MARKING THE RIGHT HAND OR FOREHEAD So far, we have looked at the plans of the globalists to incorporate everyone on the planet into their scheme of controlling the flow of digital currency. But how do they intend to do this? “Quantum dot” technology answers that question and I believe this will someday become the means for the antichrist to deliver his infamous mark and accompanying vaccine to the entire population of the world. Bill Gates, in March of 2020, referred to “quantum dot” technology as the means for implantable vaccine “digital certificates” thus connecting this emerging technology to his ID2020 initiative. The ‘digital certificates’ Gates was referring to are human-implantable ‘QUANTUM-DOT TATTOOS’ that researchers at MIT and Rice University are working on as a way to hold vaccination records. It was last year in December when scientists from the two universities revealed that they were working on these quantum-dot tattoos after Bill Gates approached them about solving the problem of identifying those who have not been vaccinated. The quantum-dot tattoos involve applying dissolvable sugar-based microneedles that contain a vaccine and fluorescent copper-based ‘quantum dots’ embedded inside biocompatible, micron-scale capsules. After the microneedles dissolve under the skin, they leave the encapsulated quantum dots whose patterns can be read to identify the vaccine that was administered. The quantum-dot tattoos will likely be supplemented with Bill Gates’ other undertaking called ID2020, which is an ambitious project by Microsoft to solve the problem of over 1 billion people who live without an officially recognized identity. ID2020 is solving this through digital identity. Currently, the most feasible way of implementing digital identity is either through smartphones or RFID microchip implants.[iii] The quantum dot delivery of a future vaccine will connect the recipient to an external digital source via the ID2020 technology to verify his or her vaccination. However, from everything we have learned so far about transhumanism and the sinister plans of the globalists, we recognize this as a key part of their agenda for world domination under the Great Reset of the WEF or the UN’s Agenda 2030, which necessitates the augmenting of humans via vaccines to make them compliant and obedient to the demands of the coming tyrannical and communistic one-world government, which will be slavery by any other name. Please also note that the “quantum dot” technology will enable the antichrist to both mark and vaccinate people on the hand or the forehead. CONNECTING THE DOTS In summary, I will let Todd Hampson connect the dots for us: The UN officially adopts a plan to change everything by 2030 with the promise that "no one will be left behind." Bill Gates pledges a "decade of vaccines" that culminates in the year 2030, and at the same time funds ID2020 with a manifesto that says (among many other things), "everyone should be able to assert their identity across institutional and national borders, and across time," and that they want to provide "an alternative to individuals lacking safe and reliable access to state-based systems." In other words, vaccines and digital ID are merging together. But how? Enter quantum dot technology. This new technology is well known, freely discussed in various online tech articles, and is the next step beyond microchipping. As I understand it, visible and invisible ink can be tattooed on someone as they are receiving a vaccine. Embedded in this tattoo is digital technology that verifies they have had said vaccine. Presumably, this could also be technology used to give everyone/anyone a permanent digital ID.[iv] Consider how the above three initiatives illuminate the path of the world to the mark of the beast: With Patent WO2020060606, we have a picture of how existing technology will enable the antichrist to not only control the buying and selling of everyone, but also regulate their behavior once they receive his mark and vaccine. Bill Gates’ ID2020 reveals his not-so-secret agenda to include everyone, “small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave” in his program to vaccinate everyone and provide them with a digital identity. Through “quantum dot” technology, the coming “man of lawlessness” will be able to mark or tattoo everyone “on the right hand or the forehead,” provide everyone a digital ID that will track their every move and action, and vaccinate them at the same time. Is it really so much of a stretch to connect the push for transhumanism with what God’s Word says will happen during the tribulation? Does recognizing the uncanny similarities between the agenda of the transhumanists and Revelation 13:16-18 really make someone a “conspiracy theorist?” I don’t think so. Revelation 13 is not futurist code or a passage that one can twist to apply to the entire church age. If we look at what the apostle John wrote, what he intended to communicate, we see that it points to a literal mark from a real antichrist. Do not let anyone deceive you into thinking that this is all symbolic with smooth sounding distortions of God’s Word. THE GOOD NEWS Through Jesus, God offers us life that greatly contrasts with the deadly path that the transhumanists have laid out for humanity. First, in regard to Patent WO2020060606, the Lord does not reward us on the basis of our behavior (thank God!), but grants us salvation based solely on the blood Jesus’ shed for our sins. It’s precisely because we can never, never measure up to His standards that He intervenes with His grace, regenerates us, and gives us eternal life. Jesus sets us free; the globalists plan to enslave people in order to carry out their deadly agenda. Second, in Christ, our identity is so much more than a number on a distant computer database; we have a brand new and glorious identity! My favorite go-to passage for my identity as a redeemed saint is Ephesians 1:3-14. 1 John 3:1 says, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” Romans 8:23 tells us that when Jesus appears to take us home, He will complete our “adoption” into God’s forever family. If you belong to Jesus, you have an identity that far exceeds anything the world can offer. You are already a citizen of heaven and possess eternal life. Third, as believers, the Lord seals us with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13-14) and in eternity He will mark us as belonging to Him as well as the New Jerusalem (Rev. 3:12). The mark of the antichrist will lead to perdition. The Lord’s mark will open the door for us to eternal life and a paradise beyond all we can imagine. Unfortunately, much of that “news” is produced by just five enormous corporations. Smaller outlets such as Newsmax are trying to make a dent, but it is an uphill battle. The entire system is designed to direct us to certain voices, and those voices are constantly working very hard to alter what we think about things. According to one survey, the average American spends 238 minutes a day watching television. If you allow anyone to pump that much propaganda into your mind day after day, it is inevitable that the way that you view the world is going to change. Sadly, a lot of people out there still believe that the big corporate-owned news networks are the “guardians of democracy” and are just looking out for their best interests. Needless to say, that is not even close to reality. In our day and time, everyone has agendas to push, and the big corporate-owned news networks are not any exception. The “journalists” at those networks are going to shape the news to push the messages that their corporate masters want them to push, and anybody that believes otherwise is simply being naive. So exactly who are these five giant corporations that own and control almost all of the news that we see on television? Well, the first is AT&T’s WarnerMedia which owns CNN… The Cable News Network (CNN) is a multinational news-based pay television channel headquartered in Atlanta. It is owned by CNN Worldwide, a unit of the WarnerMedia News & Sports division of AT&T‘s WarnerMedia. It was founded in 1980 by American media proprietor Ted Turner and Reese Schonfeld as a 24-hour cable news channel. Upon its launch in 1980, CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage, and was the first all-news television channel in the United States. The second is Comcast which owns NBC News… NBCUniversal Media, LLC is an American mass media and entertainment conglomerate owned by Comcast and headquartered at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. NBCUniversal is primarily involved in the media and entertainment industry. The company is named for its two most significant divisions, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) – one of the United States’ Big Three television networks – and the major Hollywood film studio Universal Pictures. It also has a significant presence in broadcasting through a portfolio of domestic and international properties, including USA Network, Syfy, Bravo, Telemundo, Universal Kids, and the streaming service Peacock. Via its Universal Parks & Resorts division, NBCUniversal is also the third-largest operator of amusement parks in the world. Of course Comcast also owns cable news outlet MSNBC… MSNBC is an American news-based pay television cable channel based in New York City. It is owned by the NBCUniversal News Group division of NBCUniversal (a subsidiary of Comcast). It provides NBC News coverage as well as its own reporting and political commentary on current events. Disney has now become the largest media company in the entire world, and they are the proud owners of ABC News… The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) is an American multinational commercial broadcast television network that is a flagship property of Walt Disney Television, a division of Disney General Entertainment Content of The Walt Disney Company. The network is headquartered in Burbank, California, on Riverside Drive, directly across the street from Walt Disney Studios and adjacent to the Roy E. Disney Animation Building. The network’s secondary offices, and headquarters of its news division, are in New York City, at its broadcast center at 77 West 66th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. ViacomCBS may not be as big as the other corporations on this list, but their control of CBS News gives them a tremendous amount of influence… CBS (originally an abbreviation for Columbia Broadcasting System, its former legal name that was used from 1928 to 1974) is an American commercial broadcast television and radio network. It serves as the flagship property of the CBS Entertainment Group division of ViacomCBS. The network is headquartered at the CBS Building in New York City, with major production facilities and operations at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City, and CBS Television City and the CBS Studio Center in Los Angeles. Last, but certainly not least, Fox Corporation (which is controlled by the Murdoch family) owns and controls Fox News… Fox Corporation is an American mass media company headquartered in New York City. The company was formed in 2019 as a result of the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company; the assets that were not acquired by Disney were spun off from 21st Century Fox as the new Fox Corp., and its stock began trading on January 1, 2019. The company is incorporated in Delaware. It is owned by the Murdoch family via a family trust with 39.6% interest;[9] Rupert Murdoch is chairman, while his son Lachlan Murdoch is executive chairman and CEO. Fox Corp. deals primarily in the television broadcast, news, and sports broadcasting industries. They include the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Television Stations, Fox News, Fox Business, the national operations of Fox Sports, and others. Its sister company under Murdoch’s control, the present-day News Corp, holds his print interests and other media assets. Many consider Fox News to be the “conservative alternative” to the other major news networks, but the truth is that the “news” that Fox News produces is not really that much different from the “news” that the other networks produce. Every day, millions upon millions of Americans have conversations that center around the “news” that they just saw on television. So those that decide what the “news” is going to be have an extraordinary amount of power. Just look at what happened when the Fauci emails were revealed. They showed that Dr. Fauci had been lying to us over and over again, and they also showed that he was involved in a massive conspiracy to cover up the true origin of the pandemic. But CNN, MSNBC, NBC News, ABC News and CBS News all decided that it wasn’t going to be a scandal, and so most Americans don’t believe that it is one. On Monday, a British news source published a bombshell story about text messages in which Hunter Biden used some of the most racist language imaginable, and that should be front page news all over the country. But the big news networks are being silent about Hunter Biden’s text messages. In fact, I couldn’t even find a single reference to the story on the homepage of Fox News. So Hunter Biden’s racist language is not going to be a scandal because they don’t want it to be a scandal. Meanwhile, Chris Harrison is being permanently canceled for simply suggesting that a contestant on his former show should be given “a little grace” for a mistake that she made in her past… “We all need to have a little grace… Because I’ve seen some stuff online, again this judge-jury-executioner thing, where people are just tearing this girl’s life apart,” Harrison said during the interview. “I’m not defending Rachael. I just know that, I don’t know, 50 million people did that in 2018. That was a type of party that a lot of people went to.” He continued: “The woke police is out there. And this poor girl Rachael, who has just been thrown to the lions. I don’t know how you are equipped when you have never done this before, to be woke enough, to be eloquent enough, to be ready to handle this.” When are we finally going to get fed up with all the hypocrisy? If Chris Harrison is going to get canceled simply for wanting to show a little bit of grace to someone, how much more does Hunter Biden deserve to get canceled for the horrific language that he used? But Hunter Biden is not going to get canceled because he is off limits. He can literally do anything that he wants because his father is in the White House, and the mainstream media is going to protect Joe Biden at all costs. It is at this point in the article that I should encourage everyone to turn off the mainstream news networks and never look back. But we all know that the vast majority of Americans are going to continue to watch their favorite news networks no matter how corrupt they become, and that is extremely unfortunate. The app will allow citizens across the EU to securely access a range of private and public services with a single online ID, according to a report by the Financial Times newspaper on Tuesday. The digital wallet will securely store payment details and passwords and allow citizens from all 27 countries to log onto local government websites or pay utility bills using a single recognized identity, the newspaper said, citing people with direct knowledge of the plans. The EU-wide app can be accessed via fingerprint or retina scanning among other methods, and will also serve as a vault where users can store official documents like the driver's license, the newspaper reported. Use of the digital wallet will not be mandatory but those who did sign up would benefit from an extra-secure digital presence and flexibility, those involved with the project told the FT. EU officials will enforce a structural separation to prevent companies that access user data from using the wallet for any other commercial activity such as marketing new products. 'Simple, secure and will protect' An existing system has had a low uptake across the Union, with only 19 member states introducing digital IDs for their citizens which were not all compatible with one another. It's hoped the new system, which will present a more unified strategy across the bloc, will have a boost in uptake thanks to increased digital literacy and digitalisation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the planned compatibility across the EU, the uses of such an application are broad and could reach into practically every industry. Nearing Midnight: Children and Rapture Revisited – Terry James - https://www.raptureready.com/category/nearing-midnight/ My blog article posted last week on my personal blog, terryjamesprophecyline.com, and on raptureready.com—“A Millstone Milestone”—revolved around evil treatment of children. It examined Jesus’ words about punishment for those who “offend” little children. That passage follows. And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. (Matthew 18:3–6) I mentioned at the end of the commentary that perhaps very soon the children who are accounted innocent in God’s great economy because they haven’t reached the age of accountability will be taken out of harm’s way when Christ calls the church to Himself. This, of course, will be the Rapture, as given by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:51–55 and 1 Thessalonians 13:13–18. It is that twinkling-of-the-eye instant of time when all believers in Jesus Christ will be removed from planet earth to Heaven. And those little ones are now in harm’s way as never before, as pedophilia and child trafficking are reported to be burgeoning in America and across the globe. And more than sixty million babies in this nation are murdered in their mothers’ wombs, with the number of abortions continuing to grow. It is one more signal of just how near God’s judgment and wrath must be as the Tribulation approaches. It is difficult to imagine anything more wicked and evil as such satanic activity. So the Rapture will remove these innocents from the surface of this soon-to-be punished world of God-rejecters—those whom God’s Word calls earth dwellers. So with that in mind, I wanted to again address children and the Rapture, in order to briefly present why these children will be taken to be with the Lord at the Rapture. I get opposition to this notion every time I write about it, and the following was an answer to an emailer who had told me how wrong I was about the matter. Thanks for writing. You have touched on a topic that is a hot issue with yours truly. On this, I give no quarter, whatever. But, through experience in dealing with the issue, I know that no matter what evidence I offer to the contrary, those who accept 1 Cor. 7:14 as dealing with children and the Rapture consider it a verse that stands alone as proving their point that only children with at least one saved parent will go to Jesus in the Rapture. And, most won’t change on that. I no longer debate the matter, but respond one time and one only. This is a salvation matter. (an eternal matter—not a matter dealing with physical life and death, so far as the soul is concerned.) It is not a matter of earthly relationship and religion or morality. Children who have died physically and children who will be taken in the Rapture have in common the fact that they were/will be instantly with the Lord. This is because they are seen in God’s economy as innocents, considering the factors as dealt with in this treatment of the subject. Most importantly, it is an INDIVIDUAL matter—God’s dealing one on one, not collectively, with the salvation issue. Acceptance of Christ is based upon a decision to accept or reject. If a person doesn’t have the ability to accept or reject because he or she doesn’t have the mental capacity to understand, they cannot accept or reject. The Bible says that those who know to do good and do it not—to them it is sin—i.e., if one doesn’t know they are lost because of sin, they are not condemned. But, when the knowledge comes (and the Holy Spirit draws them) that they are sinners, they must accept God’s offer of reconciliation. The very character of God—as presented throughout the entire Word of God, is at stake. All in Christ will go at the Rapture. Paul says “all will be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye”. What does this mean? It means “all” in Christ. The child, before he/she is able to understand God’s salvation provision, is in Christ. One area of Scripture that addresses the position of all in Christ (that is, the saved) as relating to God’s wrath—thus the Rapture—is found here in 1 Thessalonians: 5:9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 5:10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. All of the children who have died—before coming to this capability to make decisions—and having heard the message—are now with Christ. All after the Rapture who are born and do not reach the age of understanding—thus accountability—will go to Christ when they die. This is totally in keeping with God’s character, again, as plainly laid out in God’s holy love letter to mankind. The Scripture that talks about the name being blotted out of the Lamb’s Book of Life deals with this, I’m convinced. Once the child reaches the age he/she knows Christ is the way to salvation, but rejects God’s way (John 14: 6) their names are blotted out. They are written back in, when salvation does occur in the only way God prescribes. And, I’m convinced that not one child born after the Rapture will ever reach that age—thus all children born following that event will go to be with the Lord—either upon their deaths, or during the sheep/goats judgments following the triumphant return of the Lord Jesus. As a matter of fact, read Jesus’ words, here: 24:19And woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! The Lord mentions two age classifications. 1)Those children who are in the womb, and 2) Those who are so young they are still at the mothers’ breasts. No mention of toddlers—i.e., these children have been conceived, or born during the Tribulation period. And Jesus is talking here about halfway through the seven-year period. All children below the age of being unable to make decisions on the salvation matter will go to be with Jesus—I have absolutely no doubt, after studying the matter for nearly forty years. Actually, I was wrong about the time I’ve been “studying” the matter. It has been since I was six years old, when saved at Seventh Street Bible Church in Pekin, Illinois. We were taught that this was the Bible’s position those seventy-plus years ago, and I remember hearing it like it was yesterday. Those little ones will go to Christ when He calls. And, yes there will be other little ones who will be born during the horrendous seven years that will follow that glorious event. But I have no doubt that the very character of God will bring everyone of those born during that terrible time of judgment and wrath into His Kingdom that will follow, whether through their deaths, or through surviving that time known as Daniel’s Seventieth Week. There is but one way to avoid God’s wrath and judgment, whether we are alive when the Rapture occurs or we experience death before that time. That only way is the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No person comes to the Heavenly father except through Him we are told in John 14: 6. Again, here is the heavenly formula for escaping that judgment and wrath: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. These outlets were emphatically stating that American GIs on D-Day were the original Antifa, the terrorist group that today is fomenting communist revolution in the United States and other countries. The audacity of such a claim is so vile and disrespectful that words can barely describe it. The Lincoln Project, a PAC disgraced for shielding a child predator, went even further. Against the backdrop of film footage of our fathers and grandfathers monumental and historic D-Day achievement, is the Lincoln Project fundraising video voiceover: “Who is Antifa? They stormed the beaches of Normandy, parachuted into the French countryside, and gave their lives to face down and fight back against fascism. They took down Nazi machine gun nests, tore apart the third Reich’s strongholds, liberated concentration camps, liberated France, Italy, Belgium, Holland. Anywhere Antifa saw fascism, they fearlessly and relentlessly annihilated it. Fascism was defeated because of patriots like these, proud Americans who knew that the fight against fascists was not simply a battle between opposing nations, it was a war against inhumanity, a war that isn’t nice, but cannot be lost, a war we still fight today.” It’s beyond belief how anyone could usurp the sacrifice of American troops in fighting for freedom by claiming they were the terrorist traitors of Antifa–the Democratic Party’s modern day brownshirts. But you know, Joe Biden didn’t even recognize D-Day. Instead, Biden patted himself on the back in a self-serving video about remembering the Tulsa Race Massacre in 1921. His press secretary Jan Psaki fumbled for words when asked why Biden snubbed D-Day remembrance, concluding, “I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more we would have to say on it.” Since taking office, Biden has emphasized the flaws in American history over the successes and has aligned with the 1619 rewrite of history by emphasizing the importance of “systemic racism” to understanding the United States and its history. This is how history gets rewritten with lies. The Lincoln Project and the 1619 Project twist American history for their visceral and tyrannical agendas. Sadly, children are taught them. Many adults believe them because they want to believe the bad about America. These lies are sown by politicians, educators, and those who wish to destroy everything good and right. As Proverbs 6:19 says is an abomination to the Lord, “A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.” That is their purpose. It is a sad day when a president fails to mention a harbinger of liberty accomplished by the greatest generation and his minions attempt to relabel them as modern day terrorists. But I think our society has a lot of misconceptions about the cross today. In the first century, the cross was a repulsive symbol. It was an incredibly horrible way to die. The Romans didn’t invent crucifixion, but they perfected it, so to speak. And they saved crucifixion for the worst of criminals. If you saw someone surrounded by Roman soldiers and carrying a cross, you knew that person was about to die a horrible, painful, torturous death. Yet Jesus said, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it” (Mark 8:34–35 NKJV). These words of Jesus to His first-century disciples still ring true for His followers today. But what does it mean to take up the cross and follow Him? Jesus began by saying, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself.” The word deny means to say no to yourself. It means to put God’s will above your own. What it doesn’t mean is enduring whatever issue or difficulty you may have. That isn’t what it means to bear the cross. To bear the cross means one thing: deny yourself and put God first. I’ve been a Christian for 50 years, so I’ve seen a lot of things. As time passes, I’m not so much impressed by charisma as I am by character and longevity. I’m impressed by a Christian who weathers the storms of life and continues to give glory to God because that’s what following Jesus is all about.
