On Sept. 20, 2023, during a meeting between Russia’s Defense Minister and Iran’s Minister of Defense and Armed Forces, the Iranian minister said:
It would be wise to consider what God said along these lines more than 2,600 years ago.
Jesus said there will be wars and rumors of wars (not peace and stability) on earth until His Second Coming (Matt. 24:3-8). After His Second Coming, there will be 1,000 years of peace, justice, and stability on earth (Rev. 20:1-6). The Word of God (Bible) is unprecedented (not the words of wicked men).
The incredible prophecies in that unprecedented book (global government, cashless society, high-tech tracking all buying and selling, increase of knowledge with AI, cooperation between Russia and Iran in the latter years and latter days, etc.) are why many faithful students of Bible prophecy believe the Rapture will happen soon. Here are some recent events that seem to indicate that time is short. One, concerning the days of Lot, deceit, and censorship in the medical profession: on Sept. 18, 2023, it was reported that Britain’s General Medical Council (GMC) has told its employees to stop using the word “mother” and to use the word “parent” instead. To my knowledge, this is unprecedented. I do not think any other generation of medical professionals has found the word “mother” to be offensive to any group of people. Heather Welford, a member of a group called “With Woman,” said the “decision by the GMC to obscure the fact that only women have babies is ideologically driven, medically inaccurate, and unhelpful to women and babies.” Two, concerning corruption, the decline of America, and reducing the population of the world: on Sept. 20, 2023, I read that some conservatives are calling the approaching fake Covid-19 variant the “election variant.” They contend that America has a fake president who got an unprecedented 80 million votes during the first fake Covid-19 variant, and he barely campaigned (another unprecedented fact). Some conservatives believe Biben’s campaign got a big boost from fake mail-in votes, and Democrats want to do it again. As I understand it, to try to legalize another large fake mail-in vote in the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election, the FDA, CDC, WHO, Democrats, and others are beginning to push another “election variant” (fake pandemic, jabs that are supposed to work but don’t, masks that are supposed to protect you but don’t, fake media reports, fake science, etc.). How do we recognize the Covid-19 “election variant?” Know that a lot of yard signs and political ads on TV are good indications that the “election variant” has arrived, and expect it to happen before major elections every 2-4 years from now on until the Rapture. (More: On Sept. 26, 2023, it was reported that scientists do not know what the next virus to attack world citizens will be, so the UK Health and Security Agency has started calling it “Disease X.” They are already working on a vaccine for “Disease X” and the U.S., and several other nations have pledged $1.5 billion to fund the research.) Three, on Sept. 26, 2023, it was reported that Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis told an ABC News interviewer he will oppose funding for Covid jabs if he is elected president. DeSantis said he wouldn’t fund them because “The Covid jabs have been linked to myocarditis, miscarriage, and numerous other consequences.” Four, concerning deceit and corruption in America: on Sept. 19, 2023, it was reported that Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway said, “It’s just very interesting to hear all of this defense of democracy when the current strategy of the Democrat Party is to actually imprison their top political opponent and then try to keep American people from being able to vote for the candidate of their choice. That is a direct attack on free and fair elections. That is an attack on democracy.” Five, concerning a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in the U.S.: on Sept. 20, 2023, the House Financial Services Committee voted to prevent the U.S. Federal Reserve from issuing a CBDC, prohibit the U.S. Sec. of the Treasury from telling the Board of Governors to issue one, and it says that the U.S. cannot use a CBDC without congressional approval. Do not make the mistake of thinking that CBDCs are dead in the U.S. Notice that this was a vote in a House committee. As I understand it, this means very little unless the U.S. House of Representatives passes it, and even if it does, Pres. Biden is likely to veto it. Six, concerning a covenant of peace with many (see Dan. 9:27) in the Middle East: on Sept. 22, 2023, Israeli Prime Min. Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the UN General Assembly Meeting in NY City. Among other things, Netanyahu said the world must choose between two visions of the future.
Using Scripture, Netanyahu told world leaders Moses presented the children of Israel with a choice when they entered the Promised Land. They could obey God and be blessed or disobey God and be cursed. Then, Netanyahu told the world leaders they must choose between a blessing or a curse (a blessing of peace, prosperity and hope, or a curse of horrific war and terrorism). (My opinion: God reveals what He intends to do before He does it. As I see it, Netanyahu—under the influence of God—told a gathering of world leaders at the UN it is decision time for the world. They can choose to be blessed by God by choosing to bless Israel, or they can choose to be cursed by God by choosing to curse Israel… Based on my understanding of the prophetic Scriptures and what has been happening, Russia, Iran and others will choose the curse, start a war called the Battle of Gog and Magog, and lose. The other leaders and nations mentioned above will choose to require concessions from Israel—divide the Promised Land, etc.—that God warned them not to do, they will get a covenant with many and declare that they have achieved peace and safety, but they will come under a curse called the Tribulation period; Amos 3:7; Gen. 12:1-3; Ezek. 38-39; Joel 3:2; I Thess. 5:3. This sequence of events, in my opinion, might not be 100% correct, but the Word of God must be fulfilled as written.) (More: On Sept. 22, 2023, Israel’s Foreign Minister said he has been meeting with other Muslim countries, and he believes six or seven of them will normalize relations with Israel if Saudi Arabia does.) Seven, concerning corruption in the White House, lying to the American people, and the decline of America: on Sept. 21, 2023, it was reported that razor wire had been installed on the U.S.-Mexico border to halt mass illegal immigration at Eagle Pass, TX, and the Biden administration cut the wire to let thousands of people through. Other things as I remember them are:
It is a proven fact that drug traffickers, sex traffickers, spies, and others are coming across our border, but Biden and his people tell us the border is secure. If they are lying about this, what else are they lying about? (More: On Sept. 24, 2023, it was reported that the U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 304,162 people in August who crossed the border illegally. 304,162 illegal aliens in one month is unprecedented, but Biden and his people say his policy is working. If his policy is to damage or weaken the U.S., it probably is working. By the way, a different report said the refugee shelters are full, and children are sleeping on the streets because there is no place for them to go.) FYI: God does not send anyone to Hell (all of us are born with a sin nature and destined to go to Hell because we sin), but God has provided a way (Jesus) for everyone to go to Heaven (and He is the only way to get there; John 14:6). Finally, are you Rapture Ready? If you want to be rapture ready and go to heaven, you must be born again (John 3:3). God loves you, and if you have not done so, sincerely admit that you are a sinner; believe that Jesus is the virgin-born, sinless Son of God who died for the sins of the world, was buried, and raised from the dead; ask Him to forgive your sins, cleanse you, come into your heart and be your Saviour; then tell someone that you have done this. This is being called by experts a “grand bargain” and a “tectonic shift” in the Middle East. The momentum of these negotiations appears unstoppable. At this point, a treaty seems inevitable. The Economist, a well-known periodical, has an article that says, “An Israeli-Saudi pact could upend the Middle East.” Four key historic events occurred within the span of a week, pointing favorably toward this Israel-Saudi peace and carrying significant prophetic implications: September 20th — Bret Baier Interviews Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman In a Fox News interview with Bret Baier, Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman made some astounding statements. “Mohammed bin Salman does little to hide his relish at the prospect of a strategic pact between America, Israel, and Saudi Arabia,” The Economist article stated. “In a rare television interview on September 20th, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince and the country’s de facto ruler acknowledged with a smile that an agreement is on the cards.” “Every day we get closer. It seems it’s for the first time real [and] serious,” Mohammed bin Salman said, adding that a pact “would be the biggest historical deal since the Cold War.” It was a fascinating interview. The United States is brokering this peace agreement, building upon the momentum of the Abraham Accords in 2020. What we see happening now is an extension of those Accords to include the most important nation today in the Middle East. This pact could also have nuclear implications. Part of this agreement could be to allow Saudi Arabia to begin nuclear enrichment under the condition that it be done strictly for civil purposes—nuclear reactors, etc. But of course, we know how that often expands into military use. If that takes place, it would have major ramifications for the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Iran has already warned Saudi Arabia against entering into this normalization of relations with Israel. Their relationship, which has not been good in the past, is now even more at odds. In the interview between Bret Baier and Mohammed bin Salman on Fox News, the two also discussed the prospect of the Iranians obtaining their own nuclear weapon. The Crown Prince said, “We are concerned of any country getting a nuclear weapon,” adding that, should the Iranians successfully develop such a weapon, “we will have to get one.” Iran is a Shiite Muslim nation, and Saudi Arabia is the leader of the Sunni Muslim world. What he is saying here, in essence, is if there’s a Shiite bomb, then there’s going to be a Sunni bomb as well. As part of the negotiations, the US may allow Saudi Arabia to have their own nuclear enrichment—which could ultimately set up a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. September 22nd — Netanyahu Addresses UN General Assembly On The ‘Cusp’ Historic Treaty Fast forward two days to September 22nd. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, delivering a fascinating speech laced with Old Testament biblical references. He says, “There’s no question the Abraham Accords heralded the dawn of a new age of peace. But I believe that we are at the cusp of an even more dramatic breakthrough, an historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia will truly create a new Middle East.” “As the circle of peace expands, I believe that a real path towards a genuine peace with our Palestinian neighbors can finally be achieved,” Netanyahu continued. “Such a peace will go a long way in ending Arab-Israeli conflict and will encourage other Arab States to normalize their relations with Israel,” he explained. Netanyahu further suggested that an agreement with Saudi Arabia could improve the prospect of peace with the Palestinians and “encourage a broader reconciliation between Judaism and Islam, between Jerusalem and Mecca, between the descendants of Isaac and the descendants of Ishmael,” taking this all the way back to the beginning (Genesis 12:1-3, 15-18, 21:1-21). A normalization of relations will “bring forth the blessings of a new Middle East that will transform lands once written with conflict and chaos, into fields of prosperity and peace,” he concluded. That is exactly what the Bible predicts the condition of Israel will be in the end times; they’re going to enjoy, at least periodically and temporarily, a time when they’re living at peace, rest, and security (Ezekiel 38:10-11). September 26th — Israeli Foreign Diplomat Makes Historic Visit As Saudi Arabian Envoy Travels To The Palestinians Now, fast forward four more days to September 26th where two significant events took place. Firstly, Israel’s tourism Minister, Haim Katz, traveled to Saudi Arabia to attend a United Nations World Tourism event in Riyadh—marking the first time an Israeli minister has taken a diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia. This is a historic breakthrough. The very same day, while Israel’s delegation led by Haim Katz visited the country, Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed envoy to the Palestinians made his first visit to the West Bank, presenting his credentials to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. This is key because the main sticking point between Israel and Saudi Arabia is the Palestinian issue. They’ve got to work out some solution to that problem before they’re able to broker this final piece. These four key events all happened within one week’s time. This elusive phantom of a comprehensive Mideast peace deal, which has been sought since Israel was re-established in 1948, now seems to be within reach. The prophetic significance of this is monumental. This is a major step because the Bible predicts a broad Middle East peace deal during the end times that creates greater security for Israel. Daniel 9:27 says that the Antichrist will confirm a covenant with the many in Israel for seven years. As Charles Dyer noted, “What is this covenant the Antichrist will make with Israel? Daniel does not specify its content, but he does indicate it will extend for seven years. During the first half of this time Israel feels at peace and secure. So, the covenant must provide some guarantee for Israel’s national security. Very likely, the covenant will allow Israel to be at peace with her Arab neighbors. One result of the covenant is that Israel be allowed to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.” Ezekiel 38 says when Russia, Iran, and their Islamic allies invade Israel in the end times, they are at rest and living securely (Ezekiel 38:10-11). So there’s going to have to be some counterfeit, temporary peace for Israel in the future. Remember that this peace treaty with the Antichrist is what begins the seven-year tribulation period, not the rapture. The rapture will end the church age, and then after an indeterminate portion of time, the Antichrist will come on the scene and forge this peace deal with Israel. That’s what will begin that final seven-year period we know as the tribulation. Another point of significance is that this Saudi-Israel treaty is being brokered by an outside party—the United States, who also brokered the Abraham Accords under President Trump. You now have a precedent for these kinds of deals being brokered by a third party. This is precisely what will happen when the Antichrist comes on the scene. He’s going to be the third party who will bring the two sides together. Interestingly, Daniel 9:27 says that the Antichrist will “confirm” a covenant with the many. The word “confirm” can mean to strengthen. So it could be that there’s a covenant already in place, but he comes in to strengthen or enforce it. “Confirm” can also mean to compel or strongly establish. We see the beginnings of that now. Also, the normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia will put Saudi Arabia at massive odds with Iran. They’re already leveling all kinds of accusations and warnings. That, too, is what we see in Ezekiel 38. Sheba and Dedan, which is the Arabian Peninsula, will be on the opposite side of Iran, and that war of Gog and Magog (Ezekiel 38:13). A Middle East peace is coming. According to God’s word, it will be temporary, a counterfeit peace, but it’s coming. This comprehensive peace plan prophesied in Scripture is going to be finalized after the rapture. So, if we can already see the initial dialogue, diplomacy, and the broad framework taking form, how close must the rapture be? This is another flashing red light on the dashboard of the ages, signaling that the rapture is near. We need to remember and heed the words of Jesus in Luke 12:35-36, “Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return…” Prophecy Update Videos Must Watch Videos! The candidates mostly agreed on the big issues, so it was tough for them to separate themselves from one another. Trying too hard to stand out had the effect of sometimes making things come across as a little silly. But I was fascinated by the questions. I realized how different these questions were compared to those asked of Kennedy and Nixon in 1960, or Ford and Reagan in 1980. These 2023 questions were tinged with desperation. The questions were different because America is different. In the setup to one question, Fox News host Dana Perino said, “Today, our nation is drowning in division and incivility.” In another, she said, “Crime… has been a horrendous problem in our country.” In asking a question of Governor Nikki Haley, she said, “American students… are in academic trouble. They have lower scores in math and reading. There’s chronic absenteeism. That’s at record highs. And this has even been called ‘education homicide.’” In another education question, she said, “Over 10.7 million students in over 18,000 public schools nationwide have the ability to change their identity without parental notification.” The Bible describes these very things running amuck on the earth as the end-times progress. Perino spoke of division and incivility. Jesus referred to severe division in Matthew 24:7 when He said that people group will rise against people group. Incivility of various kinds is described in 2 Timothy 3:2-4. As for the “horrendous problem” of crime, Jesus said the end times would feature lawlessness and would be like the violent days of Noah and Lot. Children doing badly in school is part of the unraveling of society described in 2 Timothy 3, Romans 1, and elsewhere. Revelation depicts extreme levels of despair in the last days. The madness of trying to change a child’s gender, and of not telling the parent what’s going on, reminds me of the reprobate minds of Romans 1:28 and 2 Timothy 3:8. During his questions, Fox Business anchor Stuart Varney went through a similar catalogue of American ills. “Prices are up 18 percent since 2020…. We’re here in California where gas is nearing $6 a gallon…. Eighty-five percent of Americans say their personal finances are a source of stress…. There’s a nationwide policing shortage. Retirements are up. Recruitment is in the tank. The morale is at a record low…. Big government keeps getting bigger. One-fifth of all new jobs this year have been created by the government.” Revelation 6:5-6 talks about last-days hyperinflation and economic stress like the world has never seen. Stress on police officers and police departments is another reference to lawlessness, but in this case, the lawlessness is institutional and intentional. Police stress is also a symptom of the chaos that will at some point open the door to Antichrist. That will lead to government growth on an unimaginable scale. You’re not the only one seeing it. These days are different. Something’s coming; something big. But it isn’t just bad times. Someone is coming, too. Keep looking up! And remember that your neighbors, no matter what their political persuasion, see what you see. They’re worried, too. This week, two “tests” will be conducted that sound rather ominous. The first of these “tests” will happen in Russia on Tuesday. Vladimir Putin has ordered the very first “nationwide nuclear attack exercise” in the entire history of his country, and that is making headlines all over the globe… Russia will stage its first nationwide nuclear attack exercise across 11 time zones in preparation for potential nuclear war. It is scheduled to take place on October 3 and will see Vladimir Putin’s regime present the West as a nuclear aggressor. If Vladimir Putin was entirely convinced that there is zero chance that a nuclear war will happen, he would not have ordered these drills. Obviously he believes that there is at least a remote possibility that the conflict in Ukraine could spark a nuclear war. It is being reported that this exercise will assume “that martial law has been introduced in Russia” and that a nuclear attack by the western powers would destroy “up to 70% of Russian housing”… The one-day nuclear attack exercise, which has only ever been done region by region, will include preparation for the destruction of up to 70% of Russian housing stock and life support facilities. It will assume the scenario that martial law has been introduced in Russia and that is has gone through full mobilisation. But that doesn’t mean that most of the Russian population would die during such an attack. Russia has more than 16,000 nuclear shelters, and some of them can hold vast numbers of people. Here in the United States, we have one. It is in the Seattle area, and at the time it was built it could hold about 200 people… In November 1962, only a month after the Cuban Missile Crisis, excavation of a shelter in Seattle began. It was expected to be the first of several fallout shelters across the U.S., but ended up being the only one built in the country. The May 15, 1962, Seattle Times identified the structure as “the nation’s first fallout shelter to be built into a freeway.” And of course the U.S. is not likely to hold a “nationwide nuclear attack exercise” any time soon, because our leaders have fooled themselves into thinking that the Russians would never dare fire their missiles at us. But just last week thousands of Russians were involved in extensive nuclear combat drills… The combat drills took place in the Sverdlovsk region on Thursday and saw 3,000 Tagil Rocket Division soldiers being trained on the “highest degrees of combat readiness”, according to RadarOnline.com. Video footage of the nuclear missile division’s combat drills was shown on the Russian defense ministry TV channel, Zvezda. The clip shows thousands of soldiers training and Yars thermonuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles, feared throughout the world because of their massive 6,835-mile range. If both sides continue to escalate matters in Ukraine, this is where things are eventually heading, and the Russians realize this. Unfortunately, our leaders in the western world just don’t seem to get it. If push comes to shove, the Russians will use their nuclear weapons. In fact, many prominent voices inside Russia are already encouraging Vladimir Putin to go in that direction. Here is just one example… The rhetoric was raised by loyalist MP and army commander Lt-Gen Andrei Gurulev who demanded Putin be ready to use nuclear weapons. ‘Our strategic capability is our [nuclear triad],’ he said. ‘This is what is designed for the landmass of the United States of America. This is specifically for them. ‘And they know very well that after that there will be no United States of America. We 100% inflict an unacceptable defeat on the USA. They know that.’ If our leaders had any sense, they would be looking for a peaceful way out of this mess while it is still possible. Because Ukraine is not going to defeat Russia, and the Russians are not going to back down. Last week, it was being reported that Putin has decided to bring in another 130,000 conscripts… Russian President Vladimir Putin is calling up 130,000 conscripts for military service this fall, increasing the age limit of conscripts from 27 to 30, according to a document posted on the Russian government website on Friday. Russia’s lower house of parliament voted last July to raise the age for conscripts, and that legislation will take effect on January 1, 2024. Putin said earlier this month that he is bracing for a long war with Ukraine as Russia’s armed forces press on with their “special military operation” in Ukraine, now in its 20th month. We are rapidly approaching a point of no return with Russia, and so we should sit down and talk while we still can. The second ominous event that I wanted to discuss is the “Nationwide Emergency Alert Test” that will happen just one day after the Russians conduct their “”nationwide nuclear attack exercise”. On Wednesday afternoon, televisions, radios and phones all over the entire country will suddenly come alive at 2:20 PM eastern time… Get ready to not freak out. On Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 2:20 p.m. EDT, every TV, radio and cellphone in the United States should blare out the distinctive, jarring electronic warning tone of an emergency alert. It’s a test – only a test. Officially, the trial is called the Nationwide Emergency Alert Test. You know it’s a test and not an actual emergency because it’s accompanied by an explanation of the test. Even if your phone is set to silent mode, you will still hear a very loud alarm… The alerts include a series of loud alarms meant to attract attention. These will go off even if devices are set to silent mode. The test will last for about one minute on radio and television, and cellphones should receive the alert within a half-hour of the test starting. The test system will broadcast a message reading, “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” A translated message will be delivered for those whose language is set to Spanish. So does this mean that something really bad will happen on Wednesday? Probably not. They are telling us that it is just a test, and hopefully that is all it is. But they are obviously practicing because they believe that there is a reason to do so. We live at a time when one bad thing is going to happen after another. This summer, Hawaii was devastated by wildfires, a massive tropical storm hit California, and Hurricane Idalia caused an enormous amount of damage in Florida. Even if a major disaster does not occur this week, the truth is that it is just a matter of time before we get hammered with more major disasters. But some disasters are avoidable. Hopefully our leaders will pull us back from the brink of nuclear war with Russia, because that really would mean the end of our society as we know it today. Daily Jot: The prophetic significance of Sukkot - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com Sukkot is the last of the Jewish pilgrim festivals that God had commanded that all were to come to Jerusalem to appear before Him. It is the celebration of all that the Lord has done for his people, and is the prophetic picture of the olam haba, the world to come, when the Messiah will reign for a thousand years on the earth. It was the most joyous time of the year, sukkahs were built, and the people dwelled in them for eight days. It is a beautiful picture of God’s provision and protection throughout the year, a reminder of the Tabernacle in the wilderness when the LORD dwelled amongst His people. So what does that have to do with believers in Christ? A lot more than you might think. Sukkot points to Christ. Sukkot comes five days after Yom Kippur and celebrates the gathering of the harvest, as well as the miraculous protection God gave the Israelites when they left Egypt–God dwelling with his people. There is an even deeper prophetic meaning to Sukkot, one of promise for both Jews and Christians. The last of the fall festivals appointed by God, Sukkot is the celebration of God dwelling with His people. Jesus fulfilled this in part by coming to earth in human form, and he will completely fulfill this prophetic celebration when he returns, never to leave us, thus establishing the kingdom age here on earth. During the second Temple period on the last day of Sukkot, it was customary for a priest to take water from the pool of Siloam in a pitcher and carry it back to the Temple. This is the water libation ceremony. A large procession of joyful people would accompany him, dancing and singing the Hallel Psalms (113-118), Psalm 114:8, in particular, saying “He turned the Rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.” As they entered the Temple Mount, the priest would then pour the water upon the Temple altar, called the “Rejoicing of the House of Drawing Water.” The Talmud states that the response of the multitudes was so great that whoever had not been in Jerusalem to experience this ceremony, had not experienced such joy. Jesus’ name in Hebrew is Yeshua and it means “salvation,” and the celebration of Sukkot prophetically points to the days of Messianic redemption when the waters of the Holy Spirit would be poured out on all of Israel. On the last day of Sukkot, Hoshana Rabba, understood as the Great Salvation, Yeshua proclaimed (John 7:37-38), “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink! He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” Yeshua, Jesus, was telling them that it was He that would pour out the Holy Spirit on all who believed! Scripture is full of references to Jesus and “living water”—the woman at the well (John 4:13-14), the Sermon on the Mount, (Matthew 5:6), and the prophets (Isaiah 55:1, Jeremiah 2:13; Zechariah 14:8, etc). Revelation 21:3 provides the completed Messianic picture of Sukkot: “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” Thus, the prophetic significance of Sukkot. It is not to drive us into a state of panic or needless alarm, but it should have a purifying effect on our lives spiritually. John wrote, “And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure” (1 John 3:3 NLT). Scripture does teach that the Lord is coming back, and we need to be ready. Jesus said of His return, “No one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows” (Matthew 24:36 NLT). However, when we see certain things happening, these should alert us that His coming is near. The Bible says that we are moving quickly toward the Lord’s return, so we need to pay attention to the signs of the times. Sometimes we get so bogged down in details that we don’t get the big picture. We can get confused as we study Bible prophecy because we don’t understand how the prophetic books unfold. That should not discourage us. Luke 21 is commonly known as the Olivet Discourse. A direct parallel of Matthew 24, it gives us a bird’s-eye view of end times events. It begins with the emergence of the Antichrist and ends with the return of Jesus Christ. In addition, it describes the tribulation period that is yet to come upon the earth. The occasion for this message was the disciples’ admiration of the temple. There also was a sense among the followers of Jesus that He would establish His kingdom then and there. Against that backdrop, Jesus took the opportunity to bring things into focus and help the disciples understand that He hadn’t come to establish an earthly kingdom at that time. Rather, He came to die on the cross for the sins of the world. At the same time, Jesus described for them how His kingdom ultimately would be established. He also predicted something that would happen within their lifetimes as well as things that are yet in our future—things that very well could happen in our lifetimes. Then Jesus closed with a personal exhortation: “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth” (Luke 21:34–35 NLT). Not only does Jesus warn us against living in an ungodly way, but He also warns us about living in such a way that we don’t walk with God as we ought to. It’s so easy, even for Christians, to go through life without a concern about God, His Word, and what He has to say to us. But that is not how we should be living. We need to be living in such a way that we’re ready for the Lord’s return. We need to make every moment count.
