On Aug. 2, 2023, Anne Graham Lotz (daughter of Billy Graham) wrote: “If I believe what He (Jesus) said about sin, salvation, forgiveness, the love of God the Father, eternal life, His own identity, and all the other big truths (John 3:16–17; 5:17–21; 11:25–26.), then it stands to reason that what He said about His return is equally true. Jesus is coming! The glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, is imminent! (Titus 2:13). Ann’s statement is right on target, but it triggers questions in my mind:
I suppose there are many reasons why (unbelief; complicated subject; scary, etc.), but make no mistake about it, Jesus is coming back ready or not, and the number of people that think we are getting close is rapidly growing. Anyway, here are some recent current events that seem to indicate that we are getting close to the return of Jesus for His church (Rapture). One, concerning war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon: on Aug. 1, 2023, Israeli Prime Min. Netanyahu met with Israeli military and security officials to discuss Hezbollah’s actions on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. They concluded that the threat of war is the greatest it has been in the last 17 years (since the end of the Second Lebanon War in 2006). Southern Lebanon is part of the Land that God said Israel will get at the end of the age. Put another way: Hezbollah is occupying part of the Promised Land and will lose it if it starts a third war with Israel. (More: On Aug. 3, 2023, Israel notified the UN Security Council that the situation on its border with Lebanon is a powder keg. This writer is not aware of the UN doing anything to calm the situation.) (More: On Aug. 8, 2023, Israel’s Defense Min. warned Hezbollah and Lebanon that Israel is prepared to strike all of Hezbollah’s assets and return Lebanon to the stone age if Israel is attacked.) (More: On Aug. 8, 2023, it was reported that Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and other nations are warning their citizens to leave Lebanon. It was also reported that Israel is trying to prepare for casualties and damage in the event that they are struck by thousands of rockets in the next few days.) Two, concerning the coming global famine: on Aug. 2, 2023, Ukraine’s Pres. Zelensky accused Russia of trying to create a global catastrophe by disrupting the global food supply and collapsing global food markets. Zelensky was referring to the fact that Russia is preventing the shipment of Ukrainian food exports to other nations, causing the price of food to rise and increasing hunger and famine in Africa. Three, concerning the 2024 elections: on Aug. 3, 2023, it was reported that a man known for shady dealings, George Soros, has given more than $750,000 and created a political action committee (PAC) to convert the state of Texas from Republican to Democrat. Large contributions like this one are one reason why many politicians do the bidding of globalists instead of the voters. The politicians have been bought and paid for. Four, concerning wickedness (as in the days of Noah): on Aug. 4, 2023, it was reported that crime in Washington D.C. has gotten so bad that the Mexican government (home of the drug cartels) is warning its citizens to avoid going there. Five, concerning the coming economic collapse: on Aug. 4, 2023, Michael Hartnett, a strategist at the Bank of America (based on Congressional Budget Office data), predicted that America’s national debt will rise $5.2 billion a day every day for the next ten years. (More: On Aug. 7, 2023, Moody’s cut the ratings of ten small to mid-size banks in the U.S. and said it may soon have to downgrade some of America’s largest banks.) (More: On Aug. 8, 2023, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported that in the second quarter of 2023, credit card debt in the U.S. reached $1.03 trillion.) (More: On Aug. 8, 2023, at the time this is being written, all the oil being used in the world is being sold in U.S. dollars. On Aug. 22, 2023, the BRICS nations plan to announce that 60% of the oil being used in the world will be sold in their new gold-backed currency. Many experts say this will eventually cause the value of the dollar to drop significantly.) Six, concerning an Israeli normalization agreement with Saudi Arabia that would be a big step toward peace: on Aug. 7, 2023, Israeli Prime Min. Netanyahu said he believes the two nations could achieve some form of normalization in the coming months. Time will tell. Seven, concerning the ashes of a red heifer and a rebuilt Temple: on Aug. 8, 2023, it was reported that the Jews are only months away from having a red heifer that is old enough to sacrifice. It has also been reported that the Israeli government has discretely shifted some funds to prepare for purification services and possibly the construction of a third Temple. According to the report, very little is being said about this because it is an explosive issue. Eight, concerning the coming cashless society and tracking all buying and selling: the opponent of Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Austria’s upcoming election accused Nehammer of planning to ban cash and track Austria’s citizens. Nehammer has responded by announcing plans to push a law that guarantees Austrian citizens the right to make purchases with cash. FYI: God does not send anyone to Hell (all of us are born with a sin nature and destined to go to Hell because we sin), but God has provided a way (Jesus) for everyone to go to Heaven (and He is the only way to get there; John 14:6). Finally, are you Rapture Ready? If you want to be rapture ready and go to heaven, you must be born again (John 3:3). God loves you, and if you have not done so, sincerely admit that you are a sinner; believe that Jesus is the virgin-born, sinless Son of God who died for the sins of the world, was buried, and raised from the dead; ask Him to forgive your sins, cleanse you, come into your heart and be your Saviour; then tell someone that you have done this. Our purpose is to make people aware that the stage is being set for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy according to God’s Word. Truth comes only from the mind of a Holy God and is counter to all the deception that is rampant while the seven years of Tribulation draw ever closer. Jesus said there would come a time near the end of the age when deceivers, even using His name in their declarations, would come on the scene: “And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them” (Luke 21:8). There would be a time when deceivers would say their credentials came from Him, the Lord said, in effect. He warned His listeners not to be deluded into thinking their false teaching and false prophecy came from Him. In other places, Jesus said all such deception came from the deceiver’s father, the devil, who is the “father of lies.” Apart from the actual declaration that there are many ways to salvation other than through Jesus Christ (see John 14:16), I can think of no greater deception than that foisted upon America and the world today than the lies intrinsic within the evil of abortion. This practice sheds the blood of the innocent, one of the things God has stated He hates. As many as sixty-five million unborn children—maybe as many as seventy million by now—have been murdered in the wombs of mothers in America since the Roe v. Wade ruling in 1973. Jesus’ prophecy that there would be deceivers claiming to be speaking and acting at His prompting seems to be manifest glaringly in the following story: A female pastor who is also a Planned Parenthood advisor delivered a sermon in which she said she felt “God’s presence” when she aborted two pregnancies, and she blasted Evangelicals for their “toxic theology” on the subject. In a sermon delivered July 9 at The Community Church of Chapel Hill Unitarian Universalist in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the Rev. Rebecca Todd Peters spoke candidly about her own experience with abortion and how she views Scripture through that lens. Wearing a pink stole emblazoned with the Planned Parenthood logo, Peters opened her message bemoaning the state of pro-life Evangelicalism, with its “talking fetuses, aggressive bumper stickers and saccharine billboards quoting Scripture and invoking God’s wrath.” Peters, who is also a professor of religious studies and founding director of the Poverty and Social Justice Program at Elon University in North Carolina, referenced the state’s recently passed law banning most abortions after 12 weeks. She said the bill’s passage is an example of Evangelical culture setting the political tone on abortion. “When it is primarily Catholics and Evangelical Christians who talk about God and faith and abortion, they define the narrative anti-choice Christians have so effectively shaped,” she said… Peters, invoking the language of decolonization ideology, went on to claim this narrative “has colonized our minds, traumatizing many people with its toxic theology and shaping a culture of stigma and shame that has silenced millions of women and people who have had abortions, erasing their voices, their stories, and their witness from the public sphere.”… In one of the more shocking moments of the sermon, Peters referred to pre-born life as a “zygote” and criticized the “anti-choice” position that life begins at conception. She revealed that, as a mother of two, she had previously aborted two other pregnancies. “I, too, feel that I am known by God in these ways, as a woman who has borne two children. I can affirm that I felt something sacred happening in my gestating body during those pregnancies,” said Peters. “I can also attest that I felt God’s presence with me as I made the decision to end two pregnancies, and I felt no guilt, no shame, no sin.” (Ian M. Giatti, “PCUSA pastor teaches on Psalm 139, says she ‘felt God’s presence,’ ‘no sin’ after 2 abortions Sermon alleges ‘anti-choice’ Evangelicals have ‘colonized our minds’ with ‘toxic theology,'” Christian Post, Rapture Ready News, August 6, 2023) To be clear, this abominable theology is not the position of the mainline Presbyterian Church. This comes from an offshoot of that denomination which, like in the case of a number of denominations as of late, suffers from what I believe to be apostate incursion. And that satanic incursion was, I believe, part of the Lord Jesus’ warning. The end-times deceivers are declaring their theology comes from God. Jesus, of course, is God, but the deity that inspires such thinking represented in the story of this “pastor” comes not from Him but from the father of lies. While witnessing the ramping up of such evil, be assured that God will soon judge the wickedness that says He approves of the killing of unborn babies. I’m of the strong conviction that the Lord will make His statement on when life begins by taking every child–even those just conceived—from the earth at that moment of Rapture. Rather than condemning those who are under this deception, we want to bid them to accept God’s only way to salvation. Thus, the fallen mind that cannot see the truth in the matter of abortion and all other matters antithetical to God’s will can, through a reborn and renewed mind and spirit, know truth from the true Deity in Heaven. Here is how to come to that salvation: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. If that happens, law enforcement authorities can deal with the few that choose to be lawless. For generations, that is how things worked in America. There was a high standard of morality among the general population, and so the police were able to successfully handle the few bad apples that insisted on breaking the law. But now everything has changed. As a result of decades of extreme moral decay, lawlessness is rampant and there are vast multitudes of young people that openly flaunt the rules of our society. In fact, there are already some areas of the country that are literally on the verge of being ungovernable. A perfect example of what I am talking about happened in southern California on Saturday. Dozens of lawless young thieves systematically looted the Nordstrom store at the Westfield Topanga mall, and they were able to get away with tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise… Shoppers at the Westfield Topanga mall in Canoga Park were in for quite a shock when dozens of thieves ransacked the Nordstrom inside the mall on Saturday, Aug. 12, smashing displays and stealing an estimated $60,000- $100,000 worth of merchandise, authorities said. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the mall at around 4 p.m. after hearing reports that between 20 and 50 people ran through the Nordstrom grabbing merchandise, leaving some on the ground and taking armfuls with them. When I was growing up, this sort of thing simply did not happen. But now we are seeing mobs of looters go haywire all over the nation on a regular basis. This heist was obviously well coordinated, and not one of the thieves even showed a shred of remorse. WATCH: https://youtu.be/0Bva5C92hmY Apparently these young people are not exactly languishing in poverty, because a BMW and a Lexus were among the getaway vehicles that they used… After grabbing between $60,000 and $100,000 worth of goods, the crew fled in several cars including a BMW and a Lexus, cops said. At least one guard was doused with bear spray — which causes violent eye and respiratory irritation in humans. The guard was treated by paramedics. How are we supposed to respond to this? As I stated earlier, we are seeing robberies of this nature so often now. Several days earlier, dozens of young people looted the Yves Saint Laurent store in Glendale… Earlier this week a high-end designer store in Glendale, California was looted by dozens of people in another flash mob burglary on Tuesday. At least 30 suspects “flooded” the Yves Saint Laurent store in The Americana at Brand Tuesday afternoon and stole clothing and other merchandise before fleeing on foot and leaving the location in numerous vehicles, said police in a statement. The total loss is estimated to be approximately $300,000. Some people attempt to downplay the severity of these crimes by saying that these big corporate retailers can afford the losses they are experiencing. No, they can’t. Overall, U.S. retailers will lose more than 100 billion dollars due to theft this year alone. This has become a major national crisis, and as J. Lee Grady has aptly pointed out, we truly have become “the land of the free-for-all”… You’ve probably seen the videos of thieves filling trash bags with stolen merchandise from CVS or walking out of Home Depot or Wal-Mart with armloads of tools, laptops, detergent and athletic shoes they didn’t pay for. We used to call this shoplifting, and it was a crime. Today, it’s known as “inventory shrinkage”—and it costs retailers billions of dollars in losses. But many soft-on-crime politicians are treating criminals like victims and allowing the crime wave to grow. Some retailers are locking items behind glass cases, but that hasn’t stopped brazen criminals who just smash and grab. Other retailers actually warn employees not to try to stop thieves—and they will even fire an employee for confronting a shoplifter. Welcome to the USA in 2023: We were once known as the land of the free; now we are the land of the free-for-all, where criminals can take whatever they want from store shelves knowing that no one will stop them. A lot of of this theft is being fueled by the worst drug crisis in the entire history of our nation. Today, vast stretches of the city of Los Angeles have been transformed into giant homeless encampments that are filled with “zombie-like residents smoking drugs”… Shocking new photos lay bear the devastating homeless crisis tormenting downtown LA – where filthy ramshackle tent cities are plagued by zombie-like residents smoking drugs, while others hawk stolen goods on street corners. There are currently an estimated 42,260 people sleeping rough in the City of Angels – a startling 10 percent rise compared to just last year, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority reported. Just this week, it emerged that the city had resorted to sending mobile teams with oxygen cylinders to Skid Row in a desperate bid to prevent overdoses amid its crippling opioid crisis. The same thing is happening in San Francisco. In fact, conditions have become so dangerous in downtown San Francisco that federal employees that work at “the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building” are being told to work from home for the foreseeable future… Officials at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services advised hundreds of employees in San Francisco to work remotely for the foreseeable future due to public safety concerns outside the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building on Seventh Street. The imposing, 18-story tower on the corner of Seventh and Mission streets houses various federal agencies, including HHS, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the office of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. The area is also home to one of the city’s most brazen open-air drug markets, where dozens of dealers and users congregate on a daily basis. I find it perfectly fitting that “one of the city’s most brazen open-air drug markets” is operating right outside of a giant office tower named for Nancy Pelosi. Politicians such as Pelosi have been making horrendously bad decisions for decades, and that has been a major factor in getting us to this point. We are truly reaping what we have sown, and what we are currently experiencing is just the beginning. Eventually, conditions will deteriorate so dramatically in our core urban areas that our leaders will be forced to implement extreme measures in a desperate attempt to restore order. But ultimately you can’t govern vast numbers of people that have no intention of being governed. The fabric of our society really is coming apart at the seams, and we are going to see things happen in the years ahead that will completely shock all of us. It has been the subject of countless books, sermons, Bible studies, and Sunday School classes. The story addresses grace, racism, redemption, and care. Only Jesus could pack such a brief story with so many insights and so much truth. What people tend to forget is that Jesus told the story as an answer to a question. You can read it in Luke 10:25-37. A lawyer decided to test Jesus. He asked, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Instead of answering directly, Jesus turned the question back on the lawyer. “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” The lawyer answered. “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” In Matthew 22:37-40, Jesus Himself called these the great commandments. He said, “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” So, the lawyer was right. To earn eternal life, one must follow these two commands perfectly. To the lawyer, Jesus said, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” But the lawyer was smart enough to see the problem. He did not love his neighbor the way he loved himself — hardly at all, much less consistently. In the history of the world, only Jesus completely fulfilled these two commandments. The rest of us repeatedly fail. But, as lawyers do, this one searched for a loophole. He asked, “And who is my neighbor?” That’s when Jesus told the story of the good Samaritan. He talked about a man who fell among thieves. They stripped him of his clothes, robbed him, beat him, and left him dying on the side of the road. Two different religious leaders avoided the wounded man. But a member of a despised race — a Samaritan — “saw him… felt compassion, and came to him, and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return, I will repay you.’” Jesus then asked the lawyer, “‘Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?’ And he said, ‘The one who showed mercy toward him.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do the same.’” Don’t try to limit the people you have to love. Go and be a good neighbor to all. Love everyone as you love yourself. Even those who despise themselves, give themselves food when they are hungry and shelter when they are cold. Love everyone like that. Jesus left no loophole. As He did throughout the Gospels, Jesus showed that we are sinners and need a Savior. In Matthew 19:25-26, the Lord’s disciples heard Him talk about what it takes to enter the Kingdom of heaven, and it sounded impossible. They asked, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus answered, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Inheriting eternal live takes a miracle from God. In John 11:25-26, Jesus said, “He who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.” Believing on Jesus activates the miracle described in 2 Corinthians 5:21. “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” He took our sins on Himself, died for them, and transferred to us His own perfect righteousness. Daily Jot: The sight of your eye - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com With all the challenges of life and the negativity of a dark and dying world, it’s not difficult to adopt a mental state of cynicism, or even allow these current events to condition our minds toward a negative attitude. The Lord puts the simple choice before us in Deuteronomy 11:27-28, “A blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God…And a curse, if you will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God…” As Christ said that if you love him, you will follow his commandments, and he came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. But you see, a lot of it depends on our attitudes toward that life. We can’t let life get us down and have life more abundantly. God gives us the path that leads to blessing, and also the path that leads to the curse. As disciples of Christ, there is a personal responsibility to “choose life!” and walk it out in our own lives. Each of us is to see personally that our choice resulting in blessing or cursing affects others in our lives. We are as Christ said in Matthew 5:14 “the light of the world” and in verse 16 to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” If we allow ourselves to be influenced negatively and view our life in the world as such, how then can we let our light so shine? Will it be a blessing or a curse to not only ourselves, but also to others who engage with us? We also are directed to look on others in compassion. Deuteronomy 15:9 says, “Take care lest there be an unworthy thought in your heart…and your eye look grudgingly on your poor brother, and you give him nothing, and he cries to the Lord against you, and you be guilty of sin.” There is an imperative here urging us to be careful how we think, our thoughts affect our hearts, and that, in turn, affects our choices and actions. Cynical thoughts are a symptom of a hardened heart that has trouble feeling sympathy for others. It’s one thing to be realistic and assess events in facts and in truth. It’s yet another to look at everything in a negative light because as a person thinks, he is and does. Our eyes truly are a mirror to the soul, what we choose to “see,” has everything to do with God’s favor. Proverbs 11:27 says, “Whoever diligently seeks good procures favor, but evil comes to him who searches for it.” The person who seeks good in Hebrew is called “the shocher tov,” a “seeker of good,” who uses the “good eye” to see the needs and pains of others in love and compassion. Just as God had given the Israelites a momentous choice of the path to become a holy and blessed nation, we also have a choice to choose the path of our lives as well. What does your eye “see,” the blessings or the curses? For what your eye sees and your heart receives, you will be. It’s your choice. Choose wisely that you may have life and have it more abundantly. Job was living a great life. He had a beautiful family and was very wealthy and successful. But one day, seemingly out of nowhere, a series of calamities befell this man. We know from reading the Old Testament book of Job that a conversation took place in Heaven between God and the angels. Satan, who is a fallen angel, also was there. God had been bragging on Job saying, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil” (Job 1:8 NLT). Satan essentially said, “Give me a break! Just let me have a little time with Job. Then we’ll see what he’s really made of.” So, God allowed the devil to bring a series of difficulties into Job’s life. And on that tragic day when he lost all his children and possessions, here’s what Job said: “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!” (verse 21 NLT). The Bible goes on to say that “Job did not sin by blaming God” (verse 22 NLT). That is real faith. It has been said that character is not made in crisis; it is only revealed. Some people give up on God when hardship, even tragedy, comes into their lives. When something bad happens, they say, “I lost my faith.” However, a faith that cannot be tested is a faith that cannot be trusted. Don’t put your faith in a person. Don’t put your faith in a church. Put your faith in Jesus Christ. He is the One who will sustain you through times of difficulty.
